A word from The Iron Horse
The Iron Horse in the heart of Historic Glendale remains the anchor of a community standing tall with tradition dating back to the late 1800's. Originally called Bracker’s Tavern, the name changed in 1962 to The Iron Horse Inn, named for an 1856 railroad steam engine. The name is appropriate because the restaurant sits adjacent to an active railway line, and trains bustle by at all hours. Recently remodeled, The Iron Horse offers two experiences under one roof. The downstairs features warm copper tones with intriguing artwork adorning the walls. Diners experience a sense of relaxing tranquility while enjoying fine dining at affordable prices. The upstairs Saloon has stained glass windows, an art deco theme and an upscale bar with live music. There is also an outside patio for sensual summer dining. The menu is New American with an international flair, by virtue of Chef Ernesto Luna's previous experiences leading top kitchens literally around the world. Please join us.

Tucked away in historic Glendale, the Iron Horse seems to take you back to another era with its vaulted wooden ceilings and quiet dining room. The occasional sound of the passing train added to rather than detracted from the atmosphere. The cocktail list was fantastic ( their blend of shandy beer and hard cranberry lemonade was amazing), as was the wine list. The food was delicious. the piece de resistance was the dessert - their take on baked Alaska with almond torte, pineapple gelato and meringue flambeed in the kitchen and brought to our table in sheer perfection!

My middle child, a daughter named Sarah, is getting married in four weeks. Throughout her life we have had Father - Daughter Dates. This was the last one we will have before her wedding. It was therefore very special. I chose the Iron Horse because it is in our neighborhood, the food is terrific and we would have a quiet place to just talk. I gave Sarah a rose. I prepared a card with a poinant message. Then, to our surprise, a guitarist appeared who played beautifully in the background and enhanced the atmosphere. Rain began to fall as we left the restaurant. That refreshing smell filled the air. It was a wonderful meal and evening! Thank you, Open Table, for making the reservation process simple!

The restraurant is decorated nicely and the wait staff were friendly. The menu was average. There wasn't anything to get excited about. We ordered the shrimp and grits, steak salad, the fish special, and the ravaoli. The steak and potatoes on the salad were served cold, offering limited flavor. The salad was iceberg lettuce mostly and did not offer anything to write home about. The fish portion was decent but the sides were slim and the fish was over cooked. The shrimp and grits and ravioli was decent. Our meal was served very timely. Overall, the food quality wasn't what we expected and for that reason felt very over priced. I hope they will consider a menu update.

The location of the Iron Horse makes it worthy of my recommendation. It is in historic Glendale, right next to the railroad tracks and the old Glendale railroad station. The atmosphere is very nice and the service was excellent. The food was OK. . . not great. Maybe it was just what we ordered (seafood dishes) but the taste was pretty boring. I would, however, recommend the restaurant. I've been there twice and left both times happy with the decision to go there.

We enjoyed sitting outside on a low-humidity summer evening. Three freight trains going by only added to the ambience (Iron Horse refers to locomotive). The vegetarian option was surprisingly inventive, and the meat options were tasty as well.

This restaurant was recommended by OpenTable and was on our list of places to try. We were not disappointed - the food was top-notch and the service was great also. The building has a long history of being in the middle of a railroad town since 1855. Classy atmosphere! We will be going back again in the near future.

Appreciated being seated on main level for Mother's Day Brunch with 88 & 85 year old mothers. Our reservation was 2:00 p.m. and lamb was gone for the day. A huge disappointment. Non-descript dishes, especially the vegetable fritatta. No taste of veggies at all, just eggs & cheese. Shrimp cocktail was by far the best offering on the buffet. Desserts a little above the quality of other items. Enjoyed ham & asparagus.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 5/13/2012
I a arrived with a group of 6 with a reservation on Mother's Day but had to wait over half an hour to be seated and you could tell that the wait staff was scrambling. We all ordered the brunch buffet and were extremely disappointed with the quality of the food. The restaurant seemed unprepared for the large turnout it received and it showed in the substandard food quality. The food was cold and in same cases undercooked to a level where we decided to say something to the staff. We received a "That's just how it's cooked" response which made no sense. The restaurant itself is situated in a neat town and is decorated nicely so I would recommend it if you are going there for a drink but I would not go there to order any of the food.

The food was excellently prepared with an innovative combination of flavors and artistically presented. The dining room was nicely appointed, but the presence of a large screen TV broadcasting sports took away a lot from the elegant atmosphere. As did the waiters in athletic shoes. And although we made a reservation for a quiet table to celebrate our 20 year wedding anniversary, we were placed in a room dominated by a table of 14 including 4 youngsters under the age of ten who couldn't control the volume of their voice, nor stay seated.

A bit disappointing that an Easter Brunch in this lovely setting would not warrant cloth tablecloths, maybe a small vase with a few tulips on the table, and cloth skirting on the buffet tables. It seemed a bit more "Denny's" than the "Iron Horse." And I even wore a hat!

We booked the Iron Horse for our Easter Brunch this year and everyone couldn't have been happier! The food was great (and dare I say MUCH BETTER than the well-known brunch spot down the street), the kids were entertained by the passing trains, the elevator made it friendly for our older guests, and the service was fantastic. If I could give 10 stars I would!!! The Iron Horse just may become our Easter Tradition!

I've only had awesome experiences at The Iron Horse to-date. However, Saturday's dinner w/ my good friend there was mediocre/slightly good at best. The service was off. While we had 1 waiter, there were 2 others who waited on us... after they realized we'd been just sitting for long periods of time. The icing on the cake was when my friend's after-dinner coffee arrived after 30-minute wait and 1 follow-up with the wait staff. Couldn't find our waiter. :( Food was lukewarm. The lobster grits I bragged so much about to my friend that we both ordered them? Bland. Nevertheless, the wait staff was apologetic and accommodating. The performer and vibrant / energetic crowd and environment were our saving grace. Net/net: we had a good time.

My son and I went here during Restaurant Week. It was a beautiful night so almost everyone was dining outside on the patio which is great. The restaurant sits next to the train tracks in Glendale so when a train goes by it's pretty noisy. Thankfully they aren't long trains and it is sort of comical. Our waiter was a little stiff but the rest of the staff was very outgoing. The food was delicious with nice twists to each dish. Entertainment was a fabulous guitarist who just played, no singing which was fantastic and I got to show off my music knowledge by naming the songs and artists. We will be visiting this establishment again.
