The Irish HouseHit and missWent to the Irish House for dinner. Had a chicken tart appetizer that was absolutely outstanding! They were out of several things on
the menu. Crab cake was good.....fish and chips were not the best. Irish coffee and caramel apple bread pudding were great! Menu had a variety of items on it.....I was in a dilemma over the pan fried farmers cheese salad over crabmeat and tomato. Should have tried crabmeat and tomato instead.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Irish FoodGreat great food. We brunched, and it was awesome. We toasted the memory of our friend's late father with a couple of "Shots" of Guinness! You can definitely taste the Irish in the cooking. We all were satisfied, even my 3 yr old. She loved her pancake! The only drawback was that the server seemed a little distracted and disinterested in our experience, and it took him a while to get back to our table several times throughout the meal. Tough to get our drinks refilled! Also he was not very helpful with the menu items. However the last time we all went to the Irish House our server was EXCELLENT! Very good we tipped her bigtime! Overall ambiance is phenomenal, and the food is top rate.
Will definitely come again. And tell our friends too!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSomething Other Than CajanIf you are in NOLA and looking for something a bit different, try The Irish House. The atmosphere is authentic and wait staff were very attentive. Being traditionalist we went for fish and chips all around. Mind you it is American style, well more Japanese tempura fish however the flavor was excellent. The chips on the other hand were not. I've had better fries at McDonald's. We sampled a few of their signature cocktails and were few pleased especially the ginger flavored drinks. As it was a celebration that brought us there we had our own birthday cake for desert but the staff refrigerated the cake and brought us plates, silverware, and a serving knife to use. Overall we enjoyed our meal and would return.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMIrish food in New Orleans? Why, yes, and it was delicious. The chef uses lots of local ingredients so it's more Irish based with local items like redfish. We all enjoyed our dinners.
There was a band playing Irish music that reportedly plays on Monday nights. Nice.
The place is very noisy, but so many restaurants are. That would make it kid-friendly as you won't worry your child is annoying other.
Wine list is mostly grocery store stuff so probably best to stick to beer.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you Irish HouseWe were in New Orleans for my parent's 50th anniversary and went to Irish House because my sister and niece are fans of Chef Matt Murphy who won an episode of chopped. He was generous and warm-hearted, coming out of the kitchen to meet them and then participated in a traditional Irish music session. His food was absolutely fantastic. I recommend the lamb shank. When he found out it was my parents anniversary he had a lovely desert brought out to mark the occasion. All of his staff were fantastic and he took my young niece and nephew back into the kitchen to meet the staff and have fun - great pix. I can only say that we not only felt welcomed but literally like a part of the family. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGastropub FeelHigh quality food in a bar atmosphere. Reasonably priced for the quality an excellent service. A huge selection of beers, and a large selection of cocktails, with a good wine variety. A real chef inspired menu.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMLarge groupWe had a group of 10. Service was great. The bench seat wasn't very comfortable . It was low and tilted back.
Everyone ate different food- breakfast and lunch fare. All were happy with what they had.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's DayThe Irish House has become one of our favorite New Orleans restaurants.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second time enjoyingThis was our second time enjoying The Irish House for Mother's Day brunch. The service this time, however, was a little subpar as food came out in waves and the condiments (ketchup, cream/sugar for coffee, jam for biscuits served) were always having to be requested and took a while to be retrieved. Despite such, the atmosphere is always fun and it's a nice place for a group to go and enjoy a solid meal. The food is good, not spectacular.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service wereThe food and service were outstanding! The live Irish music was beautiful, a single performer with a guitar. Enjoyed the experience very much!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMHave had great experiencesHave had great experiences every time we have gone to eat here. Great for celebrations large or small. The live entertainment is always a nice touch and its great to have another place for viewing soccer matches.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, too noisyA nice innovative menu here, something for everyone, and warm "Irish" decor without being cutesy. But oh my heavens is it noisy! Can't hear yourself think. But a good choice for when you are in the Garden District.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMnice change of paceWe had dinner plans fall thru on Saturday night of the second weekend of jazzfest and decided to try the Irish House.
Wow! were we glad we did! It was a nice change of pace from the creole and cajun food we'd been enjoying. I enjoyed a proper pint of Guinness.
My wife is a vegetarian and they have little for vegetarians on the menu. they'll probably not be happy for me telling this, but I have to give kudos to all involved.
Our waitress tried as hard as she could to accommodate my wife's diet but finally called in Chef Justin who came out of the kitchen and consulted with my wife, then whipped up a fantastic dish that delighted and amazed her.
Go to the Irish House.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMIrish in New OrleansBeautiful pub house on St. Charles. The drinks are varied and superb- beer, wine, Sazerac, etc. The beet salad, bangers, fish 'n chips, and shrimp and artichoke risotto were excellent. And Dane, our waitter, was friendly, knowledgeable and awesome!
Sending friends already. Our new stop in NOLA,5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food exceeded our expectations! The food exceeded our expectations! The Banana Oatmeal Pancakes with Irish whiskey caramel syrup was absolutely outta sight! I loved the bubble and squeak omelet with side of mashed potatoes and cabbage. The chicken and waffles with ratatouille was savory though the waffle quickly gets soggy, but might have had more to do with the 7-year old who would rather play while he eats. The kids meals including ham and cheese sandwich and buttered pasta were actually quite delicious. Our only minor complaint was the missing English muffin and bacon from my and my wife's plates. Overall, we loved the food and atmosphere and Owner/Chef Matt Murphy himself escorted my family in from the rain with an umbrella--brilliant chef AND gentleman. Thanks4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Irish food and spirits!Great Irish food and spirits! Warm friendly service.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMUptown New Orleans Irish findThe food was New Orleans Irish- a bit upscale from typical fish and chips. Live Irish folksinger added to the ambience. We went early (7PM) so the place was just getting up to speed with lots of locals dropping by. The owners have five kids, so kids are welcome - there are even toys to play with. Definitely worth a visit.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a TreatIf they were any closer, I'd be walking over regularly. The food and service are excellent. It's getting harder and harder to find both: excellent service and food at the same restaurant.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great, as wasThe food was great, as was the service. It's a nice change of pace from more traditional menus.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love the Irish House--theWe love the Irish House--the food is wonderful (I had the cider braised pork cheeks--to die for!) We took my mother, sister and brother in law and they loved it too. Our waiter, Emanuel, was friendly and helpful, and Chef Matt Murphy greeted us warmly at the door (a particular thrill for my mother, who had seen the Chopped episode and thought Chef Matt was mighty cute.) The experience was quite enjoyable and a good time was had by all. The only negative was the noise level--the music was extremely loud and relentless, and although the singer was talented, we couldn't converse at the table without shouting.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI really like this placeIrish House's food is outstanding. Service is great, and the ambience is perfect. My only wish is that they had more moderately priced items on the menu (other than the Banger and Mash and Fish and Chips), because this place can get really expensive, but it is worth it.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't miss.A true Irish Pub feel but with a great chef. The bartender was great and was full of great advice about the many beers available.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBest of the IrishMatt Murphy has put together a fun place with great food. Well worth yhe visit.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Evening & meal!Loved it! The food was great. We brought our son and his family. We sat at a table near a window overlooking St. Charles Ave. My 3 yr old grandson stood in the open window and waved to the people on the streetcars as they passed by. They have a kids menu. They have a wonderful selection of beers, some local. We really enjoyed the food and topped it off with dessert and Irish Coffee. 6 people at apps, dinner, dessert and had drinks including tip, just over $200. Well worth it! I would recommend. The upstairs is very nice for parties and they are very willing to fulfill special request. There is some off street parking and outdoor seating. While we were there, we were entertained by the live performance of Irish music.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for my birthday withWent for my birthday with my boyfriend and our waiter, Dane, was excellent. The food was top notch. Note that it is on the pricey side, but you definitely get your dollars worth. Will definitely be there again.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I had a dateMy husband and I had a date night at the Irish House. I felt like I was in a pub in Ireland. I loved the live music. The food was good, but our server, Heather, was fabulous. Helpful with menu choices and on the ball with beverage refills. We will definitely be returning soon!!!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSo much more than the typicalSo much more than the typical Irish Pub fare. Food beautifully prepared and presented. Wonderful live Irish music. My budding foodie son- Chopped addict was a little disappointed that Chef Matt Murphy wasn't in house, but was thrilled nonetheless to dine in the restaurant of one of his idols.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved the atmosphere. We loved the atmosphere. When you first walk in you won't expect much, but when we started getting our food and mixed drinks, it was all spectacular!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMYou must try the sticky toffeeYou must try the sticky toffee pudding....so authentic and you can't put it down.
A great restaurant experience if you don't mind an energetic pub backdrop.
