A word from The Inn at Pound Ridge by Jean-Georges
Chef Jean‑Georges introduces his latest venture, a casually elegant restaurant ensconced in the picturesque town of Pound Ridge, New York. Here, Jean‑Georges cultivates a truly seasonal, farm-to-table cuisine, with ingredients sourced from the Hudson Valley and New England, whenever possible. Constructed in 1833 as a residence and serving later as an inn, the building has been painstakingly renovated to preserve as many of the original materials as possible, including four working fireplaces. Thomas Juul-Hansen designed the restaurant’s interior with a modern yet rustic sensibility; zinc and marble accent stone and reclaimed wood. The restaurant’s lighting, artfully conceived by Hervé Descottes, employs paper shades and Edison fixtures to create warmth throughout.

We visit the city once or twice a year but never really venture out of it. This time we rented a car (easy) drove up the Hudson for Sunday brunch, visited a park, and then headed to Inn at Pound Ridge for an early dinner. The setting is beautiful and relaxing, food and service were perfect (even for foodies like us). A very nice end to a pleasant Sunday.

After two visits to this restaurant, once for dinner and once for brunch, I have to say overwhelmingly, "meh". Despite the hype, the food on both occasions was disappointing: at dinner my lobster was overcooked and dry, and at brunch the eggs benedict was cold. I do believe that if Jean-Georges himself were in the kitchen it may have been different, but this feels like a celebrity chef has slapped his name on a restaurant that he doesn't pay that much attention to. (On the other hand, there isn't much competition in this neighborhood!) Also the restaurant is extremely noisy, especially when it fills up with families with children. On the plus side, service is attentive without being obsequious.

We loved this restaurant. Jean Georges Vongerichten has done it again. The service was attentive and the environment is amazing, and of course the food is what you would expect from Mr. Vongerichten --- original, delicious and presented beautifully. To have this restaurant up in Westchester is a special score for Westchester and Western Fairfield Counties residents, too.

Fried sushi with hamachi was unbelievable. Very unique and creative. Lobster enriched in the shell was also phenomenal. I enjoyed the tuna tartare in ginger sauce and the salmon in corn pudding. Next time I'll try the crab cake and the Hake. Desserts were also top notch. Wait staff was attentive and got us out within 75 minutes per our request. Easily the best restaurant in N. Westchester. Dress is casual.

It was my second time visiting the Inn at Pound Ridge for brunch, and it will probably be my last. Perhaps it's better suited for dinner, or just drinks and appetizers? Here are a few highlights from our disappointing meal (which happened to be a Birthday celebration for my mom): my glass of Pinot Noir came served in a dirty glass, and the wine itself had turned (we own a wine shop, so we know what wine-gone-bad tastes like) and that was the start of the meal. The Parmesan Crusted Chicken dish ordered by one in the party, was perhaps the most unattractive looking dishes I've ever seen. The grass-feed burger and sandwiches were unimpressive and served crumbled ends and bits of fries. For a $250 meal, we were vey disappointed...

We've been there a few times and the restaurant was amazing at first but the drop off in service from early days to now is shocking and really ruined the dining experience. We waited forever - even for water when we sat down. Never got bread. Food when it arrived was cold but we were too hungry to send it back. Not sure if we'll be returning.

  • Great food, unacceptable wait time

    Dined on 9/13/2014
The food is great at this restaurant. The wait was unacceptable. We had 9 pm reservations and sat down after 10 pm (this way only after my friend spoke with the manager and was complaining in a "heightened" tone). There were many other tables waiting much longer than we were. They clearly overbooked and the poor host had to deal with many anger patrons. The didn't charge us for our apps or desserts and they gave us extra of each but it didn't completely make up for the initial service (obviously, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this review). My husband and I have been here twice before and experienced a bit of a wait the first time (25 mins) but nothing like this. Who wants to eat a pork chop at 11 pm?! We won't be back any time soon.

As a fan of Jean-Georges in NYC & London, I was thrilled about this new location 20 minutes from our house in CT. We sat in the main level, which is group and family-friendly, yet the banquettes on the perimeter make it fine for more romantic dinners. The food was perfect. To sample more than the usual courses, we had the crab crostini as a starter to share, two appetizers, a pizza--delectable fontina and truffle--and a pasta--fresh ravioli with ricotta in tomato sauce that sounds unspectacular but was delicious in every way. The foie gras appetizer was amazing with a brûlée top, a perfect touch of sweetness. The other, fried calamari, was ethereal, not a rubber ring among them. Fresh donuts and post modern sundae were the perfect finish.

Every time we have eaten here since JG took over it has been a special experience. You are eating the best food, with excellent but not overbearing service, in a setting (indoors and out) that makes you feel like you are escaping, yet it's all somehow very casual and laid back. Just a great place to go, lunch or dinner. The food is outstanding. I enjoyed the tomato gazpacho and tuna burger. Both out of this world.

Place is beautiful, with elegant minimalist decor. Food was very good ... when it finally came from the kitchen and wasn't served cold. Happened as well with coffee service. Maître d' knew of problems and made no special effort. Jean George needs to do more than just lend his name to the place; he needs to pay attention.

We recently enjoyed our anniversary dinner here, we sat in the downstairs dining room which was very cozy. The waitstaff was very friendly and knowledgable and provided good recommendations. They steered us to some options we had not considered but were delicious. In the open table reservation I had put a note that it was an anniversary dinner (But did not mention anything special during the dinner) and they presented us at dessert with a surprise plate which was beautifully decorated with chocolate mini cupcakes, we brought them home for our kids who loved them! We will definitely come back.

Went for brunch the first time and was underwhelmed. Food was nothing to brag about and presentation was flat. So bad that I canceled a long standing Saturday night reservation that I had on the books for at least 2 months. A friend had a great first experience and convinced me to give it a second chance. Glad I did as dinner was excellent. Will go back again for dinner sometime but still leary about brunch.

I took guests from Utah for brunch and we waited about 20 minutes for our table and then another hour for our brunch orders. My guest was brought an omelet that wasn't even listed on the menu (and oddly enough they were able to replace it with the correct one within five minutes). The English muffin under my eggs Benedict was as hard as wood and I could not cut it or even bite through it. My wife's shrimp salad was limp and soggy. The couple at the next table even commented on the salad and complained about their own food. Overall, very disappointing for such a beautiful restaurant with such a strong heritage. I guess this is what happens when a celebrity chef tries to become a "chain" operation

Celebrated a special birthday in our by-far favorite place in Westchester. Enjoyed the ambiance, service, creative cocktails and of course the outstanding food. Went there on Saturday night for our 22nd anniversary. It had been close down for a while but has been completely revived by Jean-Georges. The upstairs has changed significantly but the downstairs still looks pretty similar to the way it did 22 years ago. It's rustic, but modern. We enjoyed the bar downstairs prior to our reservation. The signature cocktails were creative and extremely tasty. The bartender was also very personable and helpful with recommendations for drinks and our meal choices. We then went up stairs for the meal. Services was excellent, just the right amount of attention. The food was outstanding, certainly the best meal I have had in quite a while.

Finally Westchester has a dining venue that is first class. The Inn at Pound Ridge can stand up to any NY restaurant for food, atmosphere and service. we had pizza, which could stand up to any Italian restaurant fare, and calamari. The calamari was so light, with no detectable grease, and served with a wonderful sauce. Both outstanding. The parmesan crusted chicken was crunchy on the outside and moist inside. the best chicken dish I have had in a while. Desserts were only fair. Drinks and wine list were excellent and service was superb. The garden view was just lovely. The web site needs directions to the restaurant.

The greeting when we entered was warm, and we were seated at an upstairs quiet table as we had requested for a 60th anniversary celebration. The wine list was deep, with excellent selections at a moderate price. Everything we ate, from the crusty bread to the desserts was first rate and certainly worthy of a Jean George restaurant. The service was a tad slow, and slightly indifferent. But overall, this is our new, "favorite place."

We went with high hopes, bringing a very important client who was excited to dine at a chic country inn outside NYC. Instead, the 3 of us got crammed into the tinest corner table suitable for 2 at the most. We were in disbelief that this supposedly 4 star restaurant would find the tiny table acceptable for 3! I had to distort my body to avoid touching client's knee. To make it worse, the service was so painfully slow that the lunch dragged on (almost 3 hours w/o dessert or coffee). Physically uncomfortable, we could not wait to escape! While we love Jean Georges in Manhattan, we don't plan to go back to the Inn...despite living in nearby Greenwich! It was such a disappointing lunch! We're so sorry we didn't go to La Cremaillere instead...

I experienced the same service issues that I frequently have at many high-end Westchester restaurants - poor service, which I believe occurs in part because my husband and I look very young. The restaurant forgot about us, we had to remind them about our reservation after waiting at the bar 15 minutes past reservation time, and then when they attempted to seat us, someone else was allegedly seated at "our table". We were escorted back to the bar, no offer to buy us a round of drinks and no apology. And, there were other empty tables. I frequently find service severely lacking in Westchester and prefer to spend my money where it is more appreciated, and service is superior - in New York City. Please step it up Westchester!

We had some difficulty booking as it is so popular, but very much worth the wait. We sat downstairs in the more casual dining room and it was a good choice for conversation and cozy atmosphere. We had the salumi and cheese plate and green pea guacamole for starters. Both wonderful Main I had the mushroom pizza which they happily added prosciutto and my partner, the pork chop.
