Diner Reviews
  • "My boyfriend took me here for dinner while spending the weekend in Langley and it was amazing! From the moment we stepped foot into the immaculate gardens we felt the thoughtfulness of every detail and we got the honor of being seated at the chefs table. The chef was so innovative with his courses, some made us really think and re-discover food and our palate, and the wait staff were very attentive. It was truly the most memorable dining experience both of us have ever had and one we will ever forget!"

  • "Two dishes during service were phenomenal. Three or four dishes were good... But good in a way that needed more. More flavor or salt, less gimmick, whatever. A few dishes were frankly unremarkable. The service staff, and the chefs were warm and inviting, and offered a terrific experience. Matt in particular was really nice, and funny. The ambience was also terrific. On the downside, my opinion is that the value for the food and wine pairing is out of balance (too costly for the return). There are definitely good ideas, skill, and taste here. It's just not worth the expense (based on our single experience). I would recommend other places in this price range well over the Inn."

  • "Truly the most amazing gastronomic experience I have ever had. The imaginative design and incredible flavors of each of the 13 courses was brilliant. The wine pairings were perfect. The personal description of all of the local ingredients and the service were wonderful. Truly an experience we will never forget."

  • "My fiance and I dined at the Inn at Langley to celebrate our anniversary of us meeting each other, and the restaurant is a perfect place for a romantic dinner. The food was excellent and the presentation was very creative. All of the staff were very friendly, and they all provided great service. We will definitely return in the future!"

  • "Excellent multi-course meal that was delicious, imaginative and fun. The volume of food, particularly in the final courses which really needed to be smaller, became too much but it was hard not to eat everything as it was so enjoyable!"

  • "Chef Costello provided an evening with a series of wonderfully thought out, prepared and presented cuisine, much of which is locally sourced/foraged from Whidbey Island. A night to remember in a beautiful format."

  • "My husband and I had a very relaxing weekend at Inn at Langley enjoying their beautiful and comfortable rooms as well as the fabulous dinner by Chef Costello and his staff. We sat at the communal table along with a group of lovely women and had a great dinner conversation. The dinner was interesting, unique, and paired with fantastic wines. We will definitely be back."

  • "Not just a meal, an amazing culinary experience served up by a chef and wait staff who were clearly having great fun with everything they do. Highly imaginative preparation and presentation, excellent wine pairings. One of the most memorable meals we've ever had; a perfect "special occasion" destination."

  • "My wife and I have had several amazing dinners at the Inn dating back to the 90s. The Valentine's Dinner we enjoyed the other night topped them all. The Inn's chef created a 10-course menu that was like opening presents on Christmas morning -- we couldn't wait to see what surprise the next course would yield! We learned something about an ingredient or local food suppliers or an innovative preparation method in each course. And the portions were perfectly-sized so we were still able to eat #10 with as much gusto as #1. The wine pairings were fantastic, the staff was friendly, prompt and accommodating. The Inn at Langley is a real NW treasure. It is no doubt pricey, but very much worth it."

  • "A fabulous 3 hour dining experience. The setting is small and intimate. The creativity and presentation of the courses were amazing. The wine pairings enhanced the dishes. Being welcomed with a glass of bubbly was a great start."

  • "This place, under the direction of Matt Costello, served the best meal I've ever had. It was an onslaught of a dozen marvelous presentations of uncommon concoctions, each designed and plated beautifully, and tasting like a journey through the culinary universe. There were four of us, and the combined thrill level reached as high as if there had been ten of us. The chef is a master of ceremonies and conviviality, as well as culinary art, and the staff and servers never failed to live up to his standards. Questions were answered, wishes catered to, jokes appreciated. The best of times was had by all."

  • "What a wonderful holiday delight! Right at the top of the leading peak of new cuisine, with a NW edge. Complex, yet delightful courses follow one after the other. Intimate, but approachable, the staff, kitchen and chef staff all interact throughout the meal with their guests, offering details about each course, as well as listening to costumer feedback.. Service was impeccable and the courses uniquely offered, so that surprises abound in the 3+ hour dinner. Will return to try different menus during different seasons. This experience compares equally with Poppy and the Herbfarm. Save Canlis for your grandparents, this is a restaurant that you will want to bring your spouse and impress your out of town friends. 5 Stars..."

  • "The imaginative and well prepared food selection coupled with the superb service and explanation of the dishes would have been enough to make this a memorable evening, but there was more.... The wine pairings were excellent and among old favorites, introduced us to some wineries that we had not previously known about. They will be added to our visit list for next year. Then came the unexpected whimsical twists of serving charred coconut oil from the table lamp and a "Winter scene" contained in a glass Christmas tree ornament. Brilliant."

  • "A roaring fire greets you as you walk in from the cold, along with wonderful, sparkling champagne handed to you on your way to your table. The chef prepares stunning dishes, a feast for the eyes and the mouth. My favorite was listed on the menu as "Winter Scene". When that course came up, we watched them snip the glass ornaments off of the beautiful hanging chandelier in the center of the room and place each one on a small place in front of each guest. They were filled with a wonderful, tantalizing sweetness (not to give anything away) and the presentation was totally unique and enchanting. Each table receives one-on-one attention and interaction with the chef and his assistant. Superb!"

  • "A memorable experience for a very new pair (third date!). The entire staff, chef included, presented the evenings myriad courses with a brief description to each table. The prix fixe meal began with a beautifully presented tiny parsnip marshmallow and a chocolate-kiss sized camembert covered beet meringue. The bursts of delicious flavor were nothing short of astonishing. There were a very many courses that were small and flavorful and I can't decide which of them were my favorite. Perhaps the Calamari Risotto or maybe the Field and Forest Terrarium that was cleverly disguised as hanging ornaments near each table and cut down for each guest! The intimate dining room was relatively quiet and nicely lit. Pricey but worth every penny."

  • "This is a total bucket list meal will absolutely blow your mind. Matt and staff are amazing. Anything Matt makes will confound and delight. Somewhat expensive and worth 10x the price. Our 3rd time, planning the next and can't wait."

  • "As always, the Inn at Langley provides an unforgettable culinary experience orchestrated by the brilliant Chef Matt Costello. Dinner included 13 courses - some just a few bites in size - of imaginative and fresh Northwest cuisine. Our favorite courses were the "crab, black garlic, nuoc mam, cilantro and charred coconut oil plate," the "gin & tonic experiment," and the "deer, juniper, chocolate and apple wood smoke." This was our second time dining here - and it was just as memorable and excellent as our first dinner. The wine pairing menu featured generous pours and some excellent selections such as the 2002 Quilceda Creek. This place should have a Michelin Star; a couple, in fact."

  • "I have eaten at the French Laundry (twice) and numerous high-end restaurants in New York, Washington, and other cities, and I have never had an experience as incredible as the meal I had right here on Whidbey Island. We had 13 courses and 5 wines over about 4 hours. The food was terrific and the service extremely attentive. The chef uses a lot of local ingredients from the island, including meat and vegetables as well as the bountiful seafood. There were some amusing touches like when some of the decorations turned out to be part of the meal. One caveat: It's VERY expensive. If you do the wine pairings, you will spend $250 per person including tip. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

  • "It started with a 14-course menu printed with all 22 guest names distributed around the very charming restaurant with a great view of the Saratoga Passage and Camano Island. Every single menu item was a delightful surprise prepared with great care by chef Costello. The dinner was exceptional and ranks way up high among the best of the best. Chef Costello or his staff come around with every item and explain in detail the ingredients, all from the gardens around the Inn at Langley on Whidbey Island. The "Chilled sweet corn soup" was an amazing start to the dinner. I liked the "pretzel, radish, caraway butter", the "Sable fish consommé", and just about every single serving. There are quite a few very interesting surprises along the way."

  • "and I've had Charlie Trotter's & Tru. It is pricey, particularly w/ wine pairings. However, worth the price. Although very creative, I don't think you need to be extremely adventurous with foods to enjoy it. The restaurant called us a few days in advance to ask about food allergies or intolerances. BTW...we had the fixed meal, not where you can order off of a regular menu. The evening's menu had 13 courses plus a surprise course. Courses included a pretzel roll, potato roll (never thought I'd see people drool over a potato roll), an apple celery consommé, a unique gin & tonic experiment, two fish courses, a beef course, a rabbit course, four desserts, a cold soup, a terrarium (have to see it) & a surprise (not in order). Go hungry & enjoy!"

  • "Made the reservations without asking about prices, be sure you know ahead of time. It's very expensive, wine pairings are extra. Lots of time spent on presentation, and while beautiful, a bit overdone. About 12? courses served, the evening seemed to take forever. Nice talk by the chef, wait staff was great, very attentive."

  • "Every course was a photo opp. Not only a feast for the eyes, but also for the palate. Timing of service was impeccable. Chef made everyone feel welcomed and part of an intimate experience. Remarkably creative and delicious food. Can't wait to return."

  • "Interesting food and presentation that also tasted amazing, very friendly service and great ambiance. We were worried about the dinner being close to 4 hours with a dozen courses (would we get bored, tired, uncomfortable or too full?!) but in the end it did not feel too long, we were comfortable the whole time and the courses were small enough that we did not become too full - portions ended up being perfectly sized to feel like to got a full taste of everything but not stuffed in the end :) We had a great time with the friends we came with as well as some great conversations with others from different parties as well. I would highly recommend and would definitely come back. Be aware this is a very expensive dining experience - $250pp."

  • "Chef Matt and his team gave us the best meal the hubs and I have ever had. The food was beautiful, creative and delicious. We had to take a picture of each one because we would not have been able to describe the details fairly enough. Even the pictures don’t do the experience justice. We walked away full but would have still tried anything else he put in front of us. This is such a unique experience that even when we go back, we will still feel that we experienced something special. Thank you Matt and your staff."

  • "The Inn at Langley exceeded all of our expectations. Chef Costello and staff pay meticulous attention to every detail involved in a dining experience. The food is locally based and imaginatively presented. There was a fun side to some of the menu items, such as the "Gin and Tonic Experiment" presented with a pipette of gin to float on a petri dish of tonic gel with bits of lime and seeds to simulate an experiment. It was an experiment that yielded very tasty results! An edible forest and earth terrarium was a delightfully presented and tasty intermezzo between copper river salmon and crab. Every plate was truly a work of art, carefully thought out from beginning (the source of the food) to end (fork meets mouth)."

  • "The chef prepares an interesting menu with a lot of whimsy and local ingredients. It's fun to watch them prepare, as the kitchen is open and in front of you. Be prepared to sit for a long meal - our dinner took nearly 4 hours. There were many courses - I think ours was around 13 or 14 - but there was a lag between each course - at one point we waited nearly 20 min from the time they took away our last plates and when they served the next course. (Usually, it wasn't that long, but it certainly wasn't quick.) The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive to dietary restrictions of any type. The food was good - if you like new/interesting mix of flavors and are open to innovative cooking methods, this is a fun place to go."

  • "Local flavores made in a world class style. The perfect setting for an evening of learning about all the flavors that are grown about the island. The Cheft and his staff could not have been more warm and attentive to everyones needs. A night my wife and I will always remember, Thanks to all, Warren & Marji"

  • "This was an adventure from beginning to end. The chef was exceptional. We felt like we were on Iron Chef tasting creations that were tied together through the use of ingredients and a love for the bounty on Whidbey Isle. The courses were imaginative, humorous, delicious and whimsical. The personal attention not only from the staff, but from the chef as well, was outstanding. The view of the kitchen added to the overall experience. We most definitely will come back again."

  • "The chef was very creative with content and presentation but was not always successful with taste and texture. I had the wine parings with my dinner as well and was not impressed with all the choices. The white wine selections seem to work well but the reds did not seem to fit with the dish. I have been to the Herb Farm in Woodenville several times and was always impressed with food and wine parings there. Their only flaw was coffee choice. I expected more for the price. I probably won't do this again but since I am new to Langley I thought I would give it a try."
