  • "The food at the Herr is fabulous and their farm to table menu and creativity is outstanding. But here's the issue: on weekends, the restaurant is located right next to a large "event" room where wedding receptions, birthday parties, etc. are hosted, and the noise level overwhelms the diners at The Herr. In fact, no real wall exists between the restaurant and the event room. The noise from the DJ, music and party attendees was so overwhelming, that we were ready to forgo the dining experience completely and leave until the hostess told us the noise level in the sun room was nearly non-existent, which was true. Thus, we stayed and loved the food we ordered, and would definitely recommend the restaurant for its fabulous cuisine."

  • "The meal we had was superb!!! Excellent wine list. We had our own personal large sparkling water bottle. Scallops melted in my mouth and the in season corn that the chef used just popped in my mouth. I can tell you at 53 yrs old I've eaten out at many fine restaurants. This was by far the best meal live ever experienced. When the chef came to our table at the end of the evening we were shocked. How did this young man produce such delightful food? He did and we were so impressed. This restaurant sits right in the middle of a battlefield not in a congested area. We'll be back!"

  • "A large home which also had a role in the Battle of Gettysburg, the Inn at Herr Ridge has a marvelous restaurant which has a menu which changes weekly and sources local ingredients where possible. The menu has something for every taste and the extensive wine list is a small novel. We have a lovely dinner there and would recommend it highly."

  • "I took my girlfriend here on our mini vacation for a nice romantic dining experience. The decor was dated but service was splendid. My girlfriend had the pork tenderloin which was not impressive but she was head over heels for the peach cobbler. I had the swordfish and it was amazing. We would come again but maybe just for dessert!"

  • "The atmosphere was wonderful. Sitting on the outskirts of the Gettysburg battlefield, the inn has excellent food (I had a tropical fish)and my wife had the beef. Our table in an alcove looked out on beautiful fields - the start of the Confederate move into Gettysburg! The only drawback was no Sauvignon Blanc on the list - a must for summertime!"

  • "Friendly welcome and good, well presented, mid-market food in a quiet, country environment. The table service was willing and enthusiastic if a little amateur. It was a quiet night and the ambiance was somewhat stilted and staid. However, the bill was reasonable and we enjoyed the meal and were pleased to meet the sous chef who introduced himself at the end of the evening."

  • "On a trip back to Gettysburg to revisit our college days, we happened upon this wonderful, quaint restaurant that delighted our senses! The food was wonderful: creative, timely, and tasty. The service was perfect: friendly, punctual, and delightful. We had a lovely window seat overlooking the battlefield and enjoyed each course we experienced, including dessert. The wine list was overwhelming for us, but for one looking for a large selection of fine and unique choices, this is not to be missed. Our only complaint was the presence of a number of flies in the sunporch area, but that is hard to avoid in the warmer summer months! If you're looking for a lovely fine-dining experience, the Inn at Herr Ridge does not disappoint!"

  • "We go to The Inn at Herr Ridge on special occasions for the usually consistent good food and service. This time, however, we were disappointed in the details: the mixed green salad and toasted walnut was slathered in dressing, the white wines were stored and served at room temperature, and the creme brulee seemed unusually sweet. The entrees (sea bass and scallops) were tasteful and well-presented. The server was attentive and friendly. This experience would not dissuade us from going back, but we were left with a less than perfect experience at one of our favorite fine dining establishments."

  • "We all enjoyed a very pleasant evening with excellent food offerings and a very comfortable ambience. We enjoyed a very warm hostess welcoming and a private dining area which was much appreciated. Unfortunately, Brittany's table service was not quite up to that same level. The wine service seemed to take forever. When the bottles were finally brought to the table and opened (one broken cork), she discovered we lacked glasses. Three of us asked to have the swordfish switched with the scallop accompaniments to which she said yes. The substitutions were never made. And she should have had some help serving the entrees rather than make 4 trips to the kitchen to serve them. We did appreciate the visit to the table by the sous chef."

The asparagus salad appetizer was quite flavorful, & on our 1st visit, the duck was especially good. The salmon on our 2nd visit was well-prepared & succulent. We enjoyed our visits & would return when in Gettysburg."

  • "First, the food tasted very good. Out Of Stock on recommended wine. Second selection arrived warm, Sav. Blanc. Wine still tasted good.NZ does SB nicely. 20 minutes after we had ordered a starter we were asked for the rest of our order as the Chef wants the entire order in before he will start the first course. So the Starter "became" an "after thought". Oysters great. Crab Soup Very Good. Seared Scallops- sautéed not seared. Risotto made with white rice, not Arborio still VGood. Duck, asparagus, toasted barley, pickled wild mushrooms, peppercorn demi- sounds like a powerful dish. Very subtle and complex still tasted VGood. Portions are generous. Food tastes good even if it is not as it reads. Quite Pricy. "

  • "The food, price and inn were excellent. I had a salad and my husband had the soup and both were excellent. My husband had the chicken and I had the ahi tuna and both were fantastic. The problem was that is took soooooo long to get the food that is upset the entire evening. We waited forty five minutes for our salad and soup and at least twenty minutes after that for our entree. We may go back but only if we have a lot of time to spare."

  • "We went here for the first time last weekend after reading it about on Trip Advisor, and enjoyed a delectably tasteful meal with excellent service. I would have given them a 5-star rating but for the fact that when I made the reservation, there was no mention of the fact that on the day we were dining, their regular menu would not be available. I will say that the "special" menu for that day was quite good, but we had invited friends to join us and had given them a link to check out the menu beforehand so surprising them with being forced to spend $66 each was awkward. Other than that, the food is wonderful here and we will be returning. We'll just be checking the menu before we arrive."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Inn at Herr Ridge. We had never been before but decided to celebrate college graduation there with our guests for graduation. The food and service were very good. It was a little awkward to be seated at a table for 10 in the function room when we only had 6 people, but we spread out and felt very comfortable after that. There was a special menu for graduation that had plenty of options for everyone, but the full 4 courses was required. If you are going over what might be a special weekend, I would recommend confirming this before you go. "

  • "Our party of 4 was anticipating rendezvousing and having a nice dinner. Well we had plenty of time to catch up because of the incredibly slow and inept service. Our reservation was at 7:30 pm and they took 10 mins to set our table when it did not appear to be that busy. They apologized for the delay but little did we know that would be the least difficulty of our experience! We ordered drinks and then not too much later ordered dinner and a bottle of wine to be opened with dinner. To cut to the chase, our dinners were delivered so late we scarfed them down and got out of there at 10pm. The food was overdone and not very hot. There was a table of 3 who were seated next to us well after us who were served and leaving before us. So you get it"

While I understand that everything is made to order, the wait was longer than most restaurants of similar quality. We waited 20 minutes after we ordered food to receive bread. When I asked the server if we could get some bread, she said our bread was "almost up." I expected fresh from the over bread....but this was not the case. "

The Oysters Rockefeller are the best!The steak for two was perfectly cooked! The creme brulee and cheesecake were divine. The staff treat you like you are royalty. We will return whenever we go to Gettysburg or Caledonia State Park."

  • "From the attentive and welcoming hostess, to the amiable and conscientious waiter/bartender, we could not have asked for better service. They have a wide selection of wines. Among the tasty dishes were jumbo lump baby crab cakes set in a local horseradish remoulade and spicy micro greens. A salad of Spanish Baccala, arugula and a miso and pickled ginger vinaigrette was a surprising refresher of contrasting tastes. A special for the evening was a monkfish on a potato purée, it served as the mainstay for a most pleasant evening."
