We loved our time with Marios...he
was fun, highly versed regarding the menu and made us feel very special. We'll be back, thanks to him!"

We really like this restaurant. In
this age of high noise levels, the restaurant is quiet and you can have a nice dinner and talk. The food is outstanding as always. We will be back time and time again."

Wasn't my first choice but after
1st choice went Out of Business and 2nd choice did a blanket cancellation of all reservations I went with Indian Garden. Thanks La Grand Vie and Bandera.... Even with reservations we needed to wait about 25 minutes and then the valet couldn't find multiple patron's cars. He actually drove up with random vehicles and asked "Is this your car?" We waited another 25-30 minutes in the restaurants cold hallway until our car arrived."

A great place for the Indian food
lovers. The variety of dishes is very impressive, even at the lunch buffet and by far more so in the extensive menu. The cousin is reasonably authentic according to our many Indian friends. The staff is friendly and efficient. We had to wait 10-15 min even though we had reservations and one of us had a flight to catch, but then everything was very efficient and fast. No mater whether there are only two of you, or 20, it is a great place for lunch or dinner."

Place decoration and ambiance was
very good. Food and service on the other hand was average."

Is a great Indian restaurant, the
decoration includes lots of Indian statues and things. Food great. They have Indian wines I wasn't aware there were any"

This is our family's favorite
Indian Restaurant, and it never disappoints. They grind their own spices fresh every time, and it makes a huge difference in the aromatic flavours of their curries. They will adjust seasoning for folks who like it less heat. This second floor gem has a lovely ambience. We had a large party there once for 30 people, and they gave us the back of the restaurant and were very helpful in planning the menu and arranging the room so we could mingle before sitting down. We often come for dinner before a movie at River East 21."
Dined on 11/30/2013
Rasmalai and Kheer desserts are
not authentic. I suggest avoiding them."
Dined on 12/21/2013
The Indian food was well prepared
and the ambiance was very comfortable. Attentive, but not pushy, service."
Dined on 12/14/2013
Hadn't been to IG for awhile and
forgot how good it is. There's nothing terribly unusual about IG's food, but whatever they do, they do very well. We had cottage cheese pakoras for openers - light and subtle. We shared a great shrimp dish and the vegetarian thali. All perfectly cooked and delicious. Owners and waitstaff were attentive and friendly. Prices are fair (though I thought $21.95 for the thali was a little high). The decor is attractive and comforting. All in all, if you're in the neighborhood and want Indian, you can't go wrong here."
Dined on 11/27/2013
It was better than the 21 Zagat
gives it, particularly since we had the buffet. Food was authentic, well made with attentive staff. Price was 15.99 which was reasonable. The decor was GREAT! and very typical of a place in India and in my opinion very tasteful. In my opinion if I were to rate it based on Zagat 23 for food, 25 for decor (not 15) and 23 for service. So Zagat needs to send their surveyors to other countries to get it too!"
Dined on 11/28/2013
Just okay - food could be better
and spicier. Liked the menu, but service was not the best. And not so kids friendly. Overall just satisfactory to me."
Dined on 6/8/2013
Indian Food is one of my favorite;
reach spices and flavors. The only issue I had was with the very slow service. it took almost 20 minutes for a waiter to take our order."
Dined on 10/14/2013
We went here with a table of four
and were served stale papadums, the food obviously sat in the kitchen a while before being served, it had dried out on top. The service was slow and we were stopped on the way out because the waiter realized he charged us for a cheaper beer than we were given, the difference was one dollar, ridiculous!"
Dined on 10/5/2013
The service was slow and we were
greeted almost as if they could have cared less that we came to eat there. Fortunately the food was excellent and therefore the evening was enjoyable. I just the host showed a little more enthusiasm about our presence."

Yummy food rogan josh was awesome
musr visit. Best in town"

I went based on Zagat's review and
was SO pleased. I made reservations on line (super easy) and my 5 friends all LOVED this place and the excellent food. Chicken Tikka Marsala is a MUST. Lovely staff, very friendly. Pretty murals. Great job, IG!!!"

I went to this restaurant for
lunch on a first date and was surprised by how beautifully decorated it was. There surprisingly weren't very many people there despite the Sunday brunch buffet, but that just made for a quiet, overall enjoyable experience in the lovely environment. The service wasn't outstanding, but they weren't terrible either. We needed to figure out what items on the menu were vegan, which should have been simple enough, but we spent a few minutes awkwardly standing near the front desk while we waited to get someone's attention. That aside, the service was adequate. As an Indian I can say that the food was excellently prepared. I was shocked to see how inexpensive the meal was for two entrees with quality that great!"
Dined on 9/22/2013
Group of 4 and we all ordered
differnt dishes - shared them all and they were all so flavorful and authentic. This was my 2nd time at this restaurant and both experiences were great. Will go back again!"
Dined on 8/11/2013
overall, good food. Tandoori
dishes were overcooked (Dry). Gajar halwa too mushy, and fine and would not reccommend. Vegetable dishes were good."
Dined on 8/14/2013
The food has always been good here
(try the saffron tandoori chicken, the lamb chops, the lentils, the spinach), and now the place has undergone a lovely refurbishing. The entryway which was once dark is now bright and light. The interior decorating is much improved and the setting is now quite lovely and it compliments the food."
Dined on 8/10/2013
On our recent visit to this
restaurant, that we have always enjoyed during our previous visits, we were severely disappointed with the food. It was so hot (chili-hot) that we couldn't taste anything. We left dissatisfied with a case of the sniffles. Most people in our lunch party ate the Indian bread -- naan, which was the only item we could eat without losing our sense of taste to taste-bud-numbing, chili powder-laced food. Very disappointed indeed. We will neither be returning here for a while nor recommending it to anyone."
Dined on 7/4/2013
My wife and I went there last week
for dinner. even though the restaurant was not busy the service was slow, on top that our waiter put in the food order incorrectly twice. I had to walk up to the hostess table to get a manger after waiting for ten minutes for a mangerto show up at our table,. after getting the manger involved everything went well."
Dined on 6/30/2013
The food was excellent. If you
like spicy, try the Chicken Tikka Masala. The Assorted Appetizer platter is a nice way to start your meal. Enjoy!"
Dined on 6/26/2013
Indian Garden was a pleasure as
always. Open Table was impossible to navigate as always - you need two-way communication, or at least to be user friendly."
Dined on 6/23/2013
My wife and I eat at Indian Garden
at least twice a month and we always enjoy our experience. Good food and great atmosphere."
Dined on 6/8/2013
Maybe I'm just not used to this
but how does an Asian restaurant charge $4 for rice? Also, they mixed up the spice level on my wife's and my food, and our waiter was nearly nowhere to be found most of the time."
Dined on 5/30/2013
Had the Murg Tikka Masala and the
Chicken Korma. The Tikka Masala was awesome, the Korma was great, but it was SO spicy! If you love spicy food, that's your dish! The Naan is to die for. The only reason I gave service such a low grade was the waiter we had seemed distracted, not much checking in on us or asking how the food was. I was burning from the spicy Korma and needed a refill of iced tea and had to ask for it. But other than that, we'd go back again and again for the amazing food."
Dined on 5/28/2013
I work in the neighborhood and was
happy to find a close place to satisfy my curry craving. The entrance is a bit odd, but well worth the adventure into the misleading entry and up two small flights of stairs. It was by far the best naan I've ever had. Crispy underneath, airy and well seasoned on the top. The rest of the food was great as well."
Dined on 5/24/2013
I went to Indian Garden for
Mother's day brunch as my usual Indian haunt (India House) is currently closed for renovation. The first sign of trouble was that they raised the price for the buffet by $6 because it was mother's day (they did throw in a glass of champagne or free mango lassi, but it didn't justify the price increase). The food was fair: a nice selection of vegetarian entrees, specifically a good paneer tikka, several lentil dishes, etc. The meat selection left a lot to be desired- dry chicken tikka, the standard goat curry, and a mediocre, fishy-tasting shrimp curry. Dessert was poor- rice pudding, a dry milk-based confection, and a carrot pudding. Service was atrocious (it took 15 mins to get the check). I would not return."

Positives 1.) Good food 2.)
Extensive menu, many choices 3.) Relatively reasonably priced, particularly for the Streeterville area Negatives The service was terrible. We arrived and were ignored by two people at the reception desk. After finally being seated, we sat for over 20 minutes with no menus and no one coming by to take a drink order, or bring menus. When we finally were able to flag someone down, the service was not very friendly, attentive or helpful."
Dined on 5/11/2013
We had a 730 reservation and were
seated promptly. Lovely ambience and our request for window table was granted. We had a gluten free diner with us and they seemed to know what had gluten/wheat in where at other Indian restaurants around the country they say all Indian except naan is gluten free. The restaurant was busy with many big groups but our waiter was very unfriendly and didn't come to acknowledge that we had been waiting for over 45 mins to get our food, we ordered just mains and still a LONG wait with no "sorry for the wait". The food was delicious yet spicy!! I ordered the Korma, generally a lightly spiced curry but boy it had some kick!it also had bone in chicken which made it hard to enjoy as I found chicken bones everywhere."
Dined on 5/11/2013
This place is very good, authentic
food. Great flavors.. Service was OK, a little slow, for not being so busy."
Dined on 4/30/2013
Atmosphere was very nice.
Authentic Indian artifacts. Temperature was a little too warm and the construction site across the street was very unpleasant (especially with bright safety lights glaring through big plate glass windows in the restaurant). Maybe some shades or curtains would help until construction is finished. Food was very good but still not as good as India House (which has been closed for renovation for months). Owner was very friendly and waiter (who was at Gaylord's for years) was very enjoyable. Once the order was taken, however, service was quite slow. Overall an okay experience and we'll return (especially for the noon buffet which has a great reputation)."
Dined on 4/27/2013
I was a little disappointed with
the Indian Garden. The staff did not make any effort whatsoever to make you feel welcome. They probably thought we were just passing through. No time was given to look over the menu. When I questioned the server about the ingredients he looked at me as though I was speaking in a different language. Okay I am not from round here but I know my curry! The did infact prepare it how I wanted and the food was reasonably good. The drinks were pretty poor so stick to the bottled variety. The only time the attitude changed was when I asked if they did take out. They then relaised I actually live here and then things improved but by then it was too late. Will not be back."
Dined on 4/22/2013
Was okay but there is much better
Indian food at a better price throughout Chicago."
Dined on 4/18/2013
The food was very good but the
service was lacking. Would recommend."
Dined on 4/12/2013
Comprehensive menu, authentic
flavours served in a lovely atmosphere. Wait staff were very helpfull."
Dined on 4/11/2013
Food, service, ambiance, valet
were all terrific, but skip any kind of martini, their liquor is seriously watered down, which just makes me not trust this establishment. I had a gin martini and my dining partner had a vodka - both tasted 1/2 strength. Not really acceptable for a downtown restaurant. The food was very good and I'll go back - just skip the drinks."
