The Hungry Cat - HollywoodUnique MenuFood was amazing! The preparation of each dish was unique. Our server was very friendly and very knowledgeable.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat marinated mussels. SkipGreat marinated mussels. Skip the squash blossoms ( too fried and bready) and the octopus (its a ragu pasta dish - not what I expected.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemTerrific place - found it during a recent trip to Hollywood on vacation from the UK. Shrimp starter was terrific (we just don't get Shrimp that size in Europe) followed by a seafood plater of lobster, muscles, clams, crab.....excellent. Short but interesting wine list and great staff. 90% of restaurants in Hollywood are terrible and cater solely for tourists, this place is a welcome relief.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely service; tucked awayI nearly missed the Hungry Cat as it is in the back of a courtyard off Vine, 2 blocks south of Hollywood Blvd. I was excited about the seafood selections. Our server was lovely and attended to us as if we were the celebrity clients just two tables over. That was nice. Interesting but limited wine selection - I like the carafe option.
Now the food: the Burrata Salad was amazing! Gobbled every last bit. My companion's crab legs in a mustard butter sauce was delicious - and the thick, crusty charred bread perfect to sop it up. My sea bass was a little off - not sure if it was the topping, but there was something definitely overly-fishy about it. Almost like it was topped with sea urchin.
Beware of the Butterscotch liquor!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food and serviceTuesday was our second visit to the Hungry Cat and we'll definitely be back. The oyster selection was delicious, the soft shell crab on the special was incredible, and the cheese plate selections were scrumptious. Start your evening with the "Four On The Floor" cocktail and top the evening off with the "Butterscotch Liquer." Perhaps our best Hollywood restaurant experience so far.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden gem!It took a little bit to find The Hungry Cat (we walked right by -- twice!) but I'm glad we did. It's probably even better if you're into the whole raw oyster scene. Everything we had was delicious and beautifully plated. Even the Telegraph brown ale was remarkable and I am making the Kumquatini my new summer cocktail.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth it!Great service - great "local" spot - close enough to find - far enough to not be filled with tourists. WONDERFUL plate structure - the Cobb salad was excellent - as are the fish tacos (curry and all!) The Michelada was worth the six year wait until I returned for another one! Highly recommend.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Seafood in the NeighborhoodI hadn't been to the Hungry Cat in years. I forgot how good it was!!! The service was perfect and the food was great (except for the fact one of the dishes we ordered came out of the kitchen cold). The manager was totally accomodating and removed it from our bill. The kind crab legs were awesome. Looking forward to going back.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat little place to dineGreat little place to dine before a movie at the ArcLight. Delicious seafood, great service.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMCrab legsFood was amazing, great service. Highly recommended.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA very positive experience,A very positive experience, for going on a Mother's Day, well managed restaurant, excellent food and service, in spite of a Mother's day, they didn't run out of stuff, etc. Honored reservations on time. However, I probably wouldn't recommend to a friend on the basis of compared to comparable restaurants serving similar dishes, I feel they are overpriced, that's the only negative, every else is positive.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing cheese plateWe shared a terrific cheese plate and some grilled asparagus at the Hungry Cat, before heading to a film. The five cheeses were perfect and excellent, each different and freshly prepared, and accompanied by a lovely basket of grilled toast and some delicious almonds and honeycomb. We had asked for a quiet-ish table, and were given one (the waiter even informed us that a big party was coming to sit outside, so he would not out us out there with them!). Service was perfect and unintrusive.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMnight outDifficult to find for 1st timers. Food was very good, service outstanding. Liked the variety of offerings. Cheese plate was excellent,as were the New England steamed clams special appetizer. Quiet and relaxing.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMHave been going to the HungryHave been going to the Hungry Cat since it opened. The food is great and the staff is even better. I can't afford to eat there as often as I'd like but when I get a night out, I have never gone wrong here. The menu is limited and wide-ranging at the same time, everything is prepared well and the staff, some of whom have been there for years, are people I look forward to seeing, even if all we do is chitchat about the food and drinks.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMy favorite restaurant inMy favorite restaurant in town. Always fantastic. Excellent service. Can't ask for more.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waitress was great. TheOur waitress was great. The food delicious. The tables are too close and we had to listen to a woman go
On complaining about her family to her family. :(4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious fresh seafood.Delicious fresh seafood. I had the alaskan halibut with saffron risotto and enjoyed every bite. The price was high, but the seafood was excellent. Enjoyed the ambiance and look forward to visiting again.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMa favorite little place fora favorite little place for special occasions - fabulous food & wonderful staff. parking was more expensive than remembered, however ($8!!) even with validation; a real drawback since street parking can be sparse.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot for outstandingGreat spot for outstanding seafood in an ideal location.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMVery fresh food with beautifulVery fresh food with beautiful presentation. Make sure you love fish when you go there because that is all they have.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGenerally the service hereGenerally the service here is very good; unfortunatelly this time ours was very slow, not helpful, and pushy. If you go there ask to be seated in Roxanne's section. She is great!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh chilled seafoodHad a great experience! Came here before for a friend's birthday and returned again since I loved the freshness of the food. Ordered the 'two tier' each time...it's a must try! I loved that it was served on ice so it stayed chilled throughout the meal. If this is your first raw bar experience the Hungry Cat will definitely deliver! It's a hidden gem since it's tucked away, and it's a perfect ambiance for a date.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food here is good. ButThe food here is good. But the servings are quite small. My friend and I both left feeling hungry.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMBest birthday ever!My husband wanted oysters for his birthday and did not want to drive to SM or the South Bay, or downtown to the Water Grill for that matter. So I went on Open Table and took a leap of faith with the Hungry Cat. We were a party of 4 and had a BLAST. Service was friendly and efficient, knowledgeable and very helpful waitress. Ordered the two tier seafood tower and I wish I could post a photo of it here. (We did on Facebook). Delish!!!!! Seafood fresh, tasty, great combination of oysters, lobster, king crab, mussels, clams and caviar. That and a salad, big enough to share, was enough for a fine dinner for two. Our friends ordered the grits and prawns having lived for awhile in New Orleans. Great drinks too. Exceeded expectations.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant is tucked behindThe restaurant is tucked behind a competing venue that has closed down, and across the walkway from a Walgreen's entrance. Despite the unusual location, this place is a real find. We have now been twice for early dinners before Saturday night shows at The Pantages. The drinks, food and service have been great each time. I'm certain we will go again.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWent here for lunch with aWent here for lunch with a friend and sat outside. Very few customers on this particular day.
Oysters were delicious. Ceviche was too small and under-whelming in taste.
The seafood tempura tacos were amazing! And the seafood cobb salad was very good.
Expensive lunch, but it was a special occasion.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ceviche!!!The restaurant is tucked in the back of the courtyard and the signage is not great, so it is a little hard to find for the first time visitor. The ceviche is great! And the service was excellent. I was disappointed in the entrees, but perhaps I made the wrong choices for me.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food...unique...serviceGreat food...unique...service absolutely impeccable! Can't wait to go back!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
