The focus is on high quality fish paired with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, often from nearby farmer's markets. The raw bar showcases Pacific and Atlantic oysters, Santa Barbara sea urchin, raw and marinated fish dishes, crab and lobster.

The Hungry Cat bar specializes in seasonal, market driven cocktails, craft brews and an eclectic wine list .

The Hungry Cat is open daily serving lunch and dinner, with brunch on the weekends. The patio is an amazingly calm respite from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was decent. Disappointing though that we went there because we previewed the menu for dine la and when we got there the appetizer that drew me there was all out for the day and the entree selection had changed from what was posted online. "

  • "I had a crab cake which was excellent. The rest of the food on the plate was only luke warm. The plate had not been warmed before placing the food on it. The restaurant could do a better job. They need a few more menu items besides seafood. I was there on a Sunday for dinner."

  • "Gracious hostess. Menu on Sunday is Brunch focussed. Oysters, clams, lobster and shrimp but no fin fish. Very nice grilled octopus dish. Physically, however, restaurant is looking very tired - worn vinyl seat covers, scratched table tops, trim and walls need freshening."

  • "Hungry Cat is a reliable spot for seafood in Hollywood. When I have been there for brunch, lunch or dinner the dishes were fresh and the service helpful."

  • "Good seefood, especially oyster is excellent. But, overall menu is a little expensive."

  • "Great place to gather prior to a Pantages Theatre matinee for lunch."

  • "Everything we tried was stellar, including the cocktails and wine. Each item seemed even tastier than the next. We started with a variety of oysters from the raw bar, which were perfectly fresh, moved onto deviled eggs topped with snow crab--yum, then to a johnny cake with hamachi and caviar that was outstanding, then finally parmesan-crusted sea bass with grits, pea puree and creme fraiche that has got to be one of the most delicious fish entrees I've had in my life. And everything was served like clockwork, as we had theater reservations. Can't wait to go back sometime, thanks, Cat!"

  • "Delicious food, updated/modern cuisine. Fresh and bright flavors. Enjoyed the experience, service was a bit slow. The restaurant feels a little cramped inside. The outdoor seating is much more open, but too cold out the night we were there."

  • "The food and wine were good, but value for price not so much."

  • "Delicious seafood options fresh from Poseidon' Pantry. Great casual environment for lunchtime eats."

  • "Good food and nice service. Great for the theater ...... they were very aware of timing and paced the meal well and we have a great relaxed meal. would dine here again"

  • "Perfect choice for an upscale eclectic palate with fresh, somewhat exotic yet trendy, ingredients. Boutique spectacular vodkas. Great service and modern yet comfortable atmosphere. Delightfully different seafood."

  • "the hostess was warm friendly. the food boring very ordinary, the waiters very detached and in a hurry."

  • "We ate here on a Sunday, before seeing a play at the Pantages. The food was excellent, FRESH, FRESH cold seafood platter and we shared a grilled asparagus salad with burratta, grilled octopus w potatoes & sausage and yellowtail collar with rice. All so good and each different and complex. Our waitress was very cognizant of our time constraints and kept us on schedule."

  • "Had 6:15 reservations for a 8:00 PM Friday night show at the Pantages and it couldn't have been better. The food was delicious, as was the cocktail of the day. The waitstaff was knowledgeable, pleasant and efficient, and gave us plenty of time to walk up to the show. Will definitely go again."

  • "Good food, drinks, wine and waiter. Very limited selections."

  • "Having enjoyed the Santa Monica location, we decided to invite a business partner to the OYSTERPALOOZA lunch, since he was an oyster fan too. Finding the restaurant was a problem, there are no signs visible from the street. We were greeted pleasantly and chose an outdoor table. Our server absently described the specials while tossing a water glass from hand to hand. It was difficult to hear him and the tossing was very distracting. He was rude when I mentioned that I didn't eat meat ("Is there anything else you don't want?") and inattentive once we were served. The food was magnificent but the quality of the food was overshadowed by the attitude of the server. We will not return to this location."

  • "Really good seafood-oriented place. Very creative dishes really well cooked."

  • "The drinks are really good; especially the seasonal ones you can never get again. Beet juice and egg whites? Delicious."

  • "Friday evening 8:15 reservation. Waiting 30 mins for drinks to arrive at table every round , note to restaurant, maybe think about hiring an extra bartender. Main courses just so so, reasonably priced but just not that memorable, also it's right opposite a Walgreens off a very busy Vine st and if on the 'patio' has the ambience of dining in a parking lot, really wouldn't bother."

  • "Fabulous meal, exciting menu, creative tastes, excellent service, priced well. We'll be back soon!"

  • "We had a reservation but traffic was terrible (It's LA) and they were able to adjust. Great food. Nice waiter."

  • "This used to be my favorite spot in the area. The food has become greasy and I ended up with a bad stomach. Won't be rushing back."

  • "First time at The Hungry Cat, party of 4 for a pre show dinner 5:30 reservation Happy Hour until 6:00! Service and food were outstanding. 4 different dishes everyone was pleased. A bit noisy, but it was early and Happy Hour. Will definitely go again!!"

  • "Food was good but food service was the poorest I've experienced in a long time. Didn't seem to be exceptionally busy but took forever for food to arrive."
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "The Hungry Cat is a short walk from the Pantages Theater, and the waitstaff is very helpful in getting you in and out in time for your show. The food is good but might taste even better if you could see it, since a big part of enjoying a meal is visual. We sat in the outside patio, and the only light available was the single tealight on our table. We had to use the light from my cell phone to read the menu and to see our food (mounds of blackness in a bowl)."

  • "My husband and I had brunch at the Hungry Cat in Hollywood on Sunday 2/23/14. They were ready for us when we arrived for our reserved table. They told us about special dishes for the day and took our order in a timely fashion. The food arrived and was served nicely. The accommodated us with extra plates since we wanted to share our order. They suggested a wonderful dessert. All in all it was a very nice experience."

  • "The best thing about the dining was our waiter. He was great, but the good and drinks were just average. The experience didn't make me want to come back and try it again."

  • "TLDR: If it hadn't been a special occasion, I would have sent my food back. It was that bad. The items we originally wanted were out of stock so my wife had Monkfish and I had Lamb & clams. The monkfish itself was cooked okay but sat in an salty broth with slightly over steamed clams and mussels. As salty as it was, it didn't hold a candle to the Lamb dish. If there was lamb there, I assume it was just the flavoring for the broth. You couldn't really taste much past the over the top salt bomb. We were just looking for a nice evening, otherwise I certainly would have sent it back. The whole area is pretty overpriced for what they offer and this is no exception made worse by the poor food. At least the server was nice."

  • "We ate at the Hungry Cat before going to the theater. The food was outstanding! We especially loved an asparagus salad (not on the menu). The tables are close so we observed the meals of others & asked about their food. People were very friendly & happy to share their thoughts. Our meals were outstanding but I believe you could say that for everything on the menu. We never mentioned the theater but the server asked & ensured we were not rushed. We found this restaurant from comments on YELP. It's hard to find good restaurants in a new area without recommendations & it proved to be a great resource in this case."

  • "The food was not that great and I felt that the staff was having problems as well as the kitchen. You had to pay for bread which was grilled and some pieces sopped with oil others dry as the desert. It was not a great experience and I would not really recommend."

  • "Have had a few people recommend this and can see why. Great seafood: everything on the menu sounds delicious. The oysters are fantastic: highly recommended and reasonably priced. Portions ever so slightly on the small side so a starter plus a main will probably do most people. It's quite a small place so booking is essential if you don't want to wait! Good cocktail list also."

  • "We made an early reservation after attending a play at the Pantages. Very good service, not outstanding. But the food was outstanding to the 10th degree. Extremely fresh seafood platter led into scrumptious entrées with multiple tastes and textures. This is seafood at its finest."

  • "This is one of LA's best kept secrets. I know that sounds profound.. But it is so true in every way. This is the first Valentines Day, try a new restaurant night; that I would've paid 2x the money!!"

  • "We arrived at our reserved time of 6:30 and told the hostess and waiter we had theatre tickets for an 8:00 pm show. After asking the waiter where our food was at least 3 times and also complaining to the hostess we finally left at 7:45 so we could make the show.We pd. for drinks wine and 6 clams but the food never arrived. I have eaten at restaurants all over the world and I can honestly say this was the first time anything like that ever happened. Needless to say we will not be going back."

  • "Great spot for going to Pantages - bit hard to locate, in courtyard."
    Dined on 2/5/2014
  • "if you can go there AFTER 8pm for dinner the place will not be as crowded and loud because a lot of the customers will have been gone to see their show in Pantage Theatre or other Show places around!!!! After 7:30pm the staff was a lot more attentive and the noise level much more manageable!"

  • "Entrée of Ahi Tuna was more like an appetizer. Ahi was prepared well and plating was appealing. Other Entree's were appropriate in portion size and also prepared well and plated well. Hard to find venue but once there staff very friendly"
