The Hungry Cat is open daily serving lunch and dinner, with brunch on the weekends. The patio is an amazingly calm respite from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant was listed on Jonathan Gold's 101 top restaurant list, so I expected to be awesome. However I was pretty disappointed with both food and service. The food wasn't anything spectacular, my soft shell crab dish was over salted, but my boyfriend's pan roasted barramundi was okay and so were the half shelled oysters. The chocolate bread and butter pudding was very chocolaty - not a bad thing I suppose for most. The service was so-so. very slow for the entrees to come out on a very non-busy night and I even over heard some other tables complaining about that. Overall my experience here was just alright. I wouldn't say it was bad and I wouldn't say I wouldn't come here again..next time around I would have lower expectations."

  • "Great fresh seafood, good service with some characters walking by that didn't add to the ambience. Wine list didn't measure up to the quality of the food."

  • "Quick Sunday brunch before the theater. Very good service. Food was okay."

  • "This was my first time at the Hungry Cat and I was not disappointed. From the drinks at the bar while we waited for our table to the appetizer (Oysters on the half shell) to the main course (Maine Lobster). My date and I had a great start to our evening which culminated at the Steve Winwood concert at the Pantages. Our service was excellent. Our waiter provided us with great insight and tips about the menu. We are going to add the Hungry Cat to our list of dining venues in Holloywood."

  • "I lived for many years in New Orleans where there were some truly great seafood of all kinds. The Hungry Cat in Hollywood is a real find in a City that often forgets that it borders an ocean!"

  • "I have eaten at the Hungry Cat at the beach and it was delicious. But the Hollywood restaurant was just okay. Maybe because they have a different chef Sundays?"

  • "Must say very disappointed. Used to enjoy but not this time"

  • "Had checked out various web reviews before making our reservations for Father's Day brunch. Was disappointed that at least three of the items we had requested were not available and soup was seasonal, offered only once a year during the fall. The Yelp review had a wonderful picture of a fish stew and delicious looking fish & chips, neither were available. Most importantly, the cost for the oysters were outrageous....$36 for a dozen, I don't pay that in Beverly Hills - won't be going back!!!!"

  • "Unusual items on menu but food is good. Try the peeled shrimp. Lobster roll good but lots of fries! Convenient for those going to the Pantages"

  • "Food was excellent. Pricey for the amount of food you receive."

  • "Very innovative combination of flavors --halibut cheeks, a special for the day, and grilled salmon. Will definitely eat here again when visiting the Pantages"

  • "I was very disappointed with this restaurant. The Pug burger is too much salt and very difficult for eat. The other food is a very poor for their price. I would not recommend the Hungry cat to anybody. Also parking is not good and their sign is very confused. Overall this is not a restaurant I never, ever go again."

  • "It was a wonderful way to spend pre-theatre brunch on a Sunday. The Spicy Hungry Cat Bloody Mary was perfect. My husband got to try a new gin and new tonic for his cocktail of choice. We shared the two tiew seafood platter. Oysters, clams, shrimp, crab, lobster, caviar. And the blini for the caviar was perfection. We didn't eat the rest of day. We are coming back in three weeks for another round.."

  • "great food and great, attentive service. my fiancé has celiac's and our server took this under consideration as we ordered. often you find at restaurants a server is either unfamiliar with food allergies/intolerances or does not take the customer seriously. our server understood and was happy to make suggestions and accommodations."

  • "Went twice in one week loved it so much ... Adored the simple but innovative cocktails ... Candied grapefruit rind a treat !Dishes are quite the right size .... Octopus par excellence . The outdoor dining area while not too beautiful is functional and one can talk and be heard .. Theres no high velocity rabble .. Service is personable and professional ."

  • "Ate here prior to a Hollywood Bowl event. Great service, easy parking. I had the Lobster Roll and was not disappointed. Friends had the Salmon which was wonderful. Drinks could be a little more generous, but I can be a lush, so... Liked this place and would return."

  • "Excellent food, good service. One of your party should order a Pabst Blue Ribbon just to see the presentation. Priceless! p.s. Call for directions. You can't see the restaurant from the street."

  • "Fantastic. As well as the dungess crab pappardelle. "

  • "Started with house special drinks and grilled asparagus - all were great and server was helpful and attentive. For entrees, ordered the lamb and clams and mussels with xo sauce - both were creative, tasty dishes. Finished with blueberry crumble and decaf cappuccino - coffee was the best I have had in a long time. The only bad thing is that I live 40 miles away - I was there before seeing a show at the Pantages (which the server had inquired about when we first sat down) - or I would be a regular."

  • "This location of Hungry Cat is awful. In the back of an ugly concrete strip mall and next door to a pharmacy. Inside the fish smell mixed with the smell from cleaning supplies is particularly gross. Outside the dismal atmosphere and street noise is awful too. The food is very good and the service was good. Other locations are great so this one really doesn't make sense. "

  • "Every time I recommend the Hungry Cat to someone it illicits the same response: "The Hungry what?" Though the name for a restaurant that primarily serves seafood seems like a perfectly reasonable name to me, I tell these friends to get past the name and start listening to the food options. The crab cakes and parfait are what keeps my boyfriend coming back. For me, it's the changing selections of fish, crab, and shrimp dishes topped with ingenious veggies that keeps me drooling. And of course, the pimlico, mm-good!"

  • "We have been coming to Hungry Cat in Hollywood for years and we have never been disappointed. The wait staff is excellent, the food is fresh and inspired, the location is great (and we are coming from the Valley), and the menu changes often enough that we never get bored. We love to sit in Patrick's section, because he is so warm and welcoming. He describes the food as if he were describing a fine work of art or a luxury car. The lobster roll is excellent and they always have fresh, seasonal dishes as specials. Their raw bar is amazing and you can easily make a meal of a 2-tier seafood appetizer (for 2 people). So yummy. Can't say enough good things. "

  • "Been here twice for lunch, both times were amazing. Service is excellent, one of the best in the city. The food is exquisite. The setting is very sophisticated city, yet very comfortable. Came here once to celebrate a birthday and once for a business lunch. How does the Hungry Cat seem appropriate for both, and yet I can't wait to come back for romantic dinner with my husband? It's just a great place, that's why!"

  • "Hungry Cat is hidden but well worth finding. Restaurant is small, so recommend reservations. Food combinations are unique and sometimes surprising. Don't be put off if some of the ingredients seem odd. The chef pairs them well for flavor filled results that are fabulous."

  • "I Love the Hungry Cat. I went there for brunch with my sister for her birthday and we had the best, freshest Bloody Marys ever. The oyster shooters were a great complement to the drinks, along with their deviled eggs. We followed with a dozen oysters and the the halibut crudo. The selection of oysters, as suggested by our server Alan, were delish. The halibut crudo was bright and fresh (if not a tad pricey for the portion). My brother in law's mussels were spectacular - creamy and melt in your mouth. My fish tacos were OK (but deep fried; I should have had the mussels!) and my sister's crab benedict was decadent. A wonderful dining experience, made even better by the service. "

  • "We went on a weeknight so it wasn't very crowded. Split a bottle of wine, a nice dry Riesling from finger lakes area. I had the lobster roll, she had the Clam/Bacon/rice bowl thing. both were delicious the lobster roll was like 90% lobster and very delicious with no much mayo. We said we were had to get out by a certain time and they worked with us to ensure that. The waitress was great, funny and enjoyable to converse with. The only lil knock i had was that they kept trying to clear any dishes and would refill water even if it was mostly full... but that's just being nit picky it was a really enjoyable place. A bit pricy ... but good for a date."

  • "Always great for a meal after a movie. Excellent shrimp. The drinks are weak for the price. Saw a half shot poured into one drink that cost $12. It was good, it was called a Tin Roof, but for the cost, it could have been stronger."

  • "I think this restaurant has fresh and delicious seafood but I would have to say it is a bit overpriced. $25 for a lobster roll?? Just food for thought."

  • "We had brunch resv on Saturday at noon. The tables were 25% filled, so service was immediate. Firstly, the fries were so delicious that I gobbled them all up while hot. Then I took off the top brioche bun layer which was a bit dry, and loved eating the pan seared, but mostly raw, albacore tuna sandwich with chipotle aoili, open faced style. I'd order it again. My partner ate all of his fist tacos. Despite one waiter taking our order, another bringing the meal, and yet a third delivering items to the table, the service team was seamless and knowledgeable. Can't wait to return for the oysterpalooza."

  • "Seated promptly. Food was very good, but nothing spectacular. Service was good, but not great. Not sure I would make it a point to go back, but it was an enjoyable dining event. "

  • "The food was decent. Disappointing though that we went there because we previewed the menu for dine la and when we got there the appetizer that drew me there was all out for the day and the entree selection had changed from what was posted online. "

  • "I had a crab cake which was excellent. The rest of the food on the plate was only luke warm. The plate had not been warmed before placing the food on it. The restaurant could do a better job. They need a few more menu items besides seafood. I was there on a Sunday for dinner."
    Dined on 4/20/2014
  • "Gracious hostess. Menu on Sunday is Brunch focussed. Oysters, clams, lobster and shrimp but no fin fish. Very nice grilled octopus dish. Physically, however, restaurant is looking very tired - worn vinyl seat covers, scratched table tops, trim and walls need freshening."

  • "Hungry Cat is a reliable spot for seafood in Hollywood. When I have been there for brunch, lunch or dinner the dishes were fresh and the service helpful."

  • "Great place to gather prior to a Pantages Theatre matinee for lunch."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Everything we tried was stellar, including the cocktails and wine. Each item seemed even tastier than the next. We started with a variety of oysters from the raw bar, which were perfectly fresh, moved onto deviled eggs topped with snow crab--yum, then to a johnny cake with hamachi and caviar that was outstanding, then finally parmesan-crusted sea bass with grits, pea puree and creme fraiche that has got to be one of the most delicious fish entrees I've had in my life. And everything was served like clockwork, as we had theater reservations. Can't wait to go back sometime, thanks, Cat!"
