A word from The Hobbit
The Hobbit offers a 7 course prix-fixe menu Wed-Sun with one seating per evening. Cost per person is $78 (plus tax, tip & beverage). Our food is "Contemporary Continental" a reference to its encompassing many world cuisines.

We begin the evening in our wine cellar where you are handed a flute of Hobbit Champagne. Hors d'oeuvres are placed throughout the cellar, sommelier Tiffany Cox & wait staff are there to help you select wines for dinner with over 1000 labels to choose from!

Guests are then invited upstairs - you will be served a shellfish or fish first course then a fowl or light meat, followed by a salad course. After you enjoy "intermission" (visit the kitchen to speak with the chefs, take a walk, and relax on the patios).

15 minutes later guests return to their refreshed table for a flavorful sorbet palate-cleanser. The main entrée is served complete with accompanying vegetables. Dessert arrives next, along with a list of after dinner drinks and liqueurs.

Diner Reviews
  • "Showed up @ 6:30 pm, easy parking, went upstairs to cocktails, visited with others until 7:00 pm and was taken to the wine cellar for light snacks & wine selection. For 1st time dining, the wine selection / pairing procedures were not well portrayed. I got the hang of what was going on by listening to others! But it would have been nice to have a small presentation explaining the rules when we 1st got down in the basement. Dinner started at 7:30 pm and 1st course came about 8:00 pm. Initial courses were kinda small, but very tasty and well presented. Intermission was ok, but patio seat cushions need to be replaced. Main entree was sizable and very well prepared but the time between courses was a little long. Enjoyed the experience."

  • "Only negative would be that the color scheme is too dark. I felt I was in a dark cave. Doors in bathroom chipped."

  • "First visit to the Hobbit. Great appetizers and wine cellar. Excellent food preparation and presentation."

  • "We've been appreciative Hobbit customers for many years and our latest visit was no disappointment. Great food, great service and great ambiance. I've made both personal visits and business visits and they always come through."

  • "The Good: Most courses are excellent, from the hors d'ouvres in the wine cellar (nice start) to the entrée (ours was NY Strip). The dessert, a chocolate pecan tart, was just so-so and normally I love desserts. The outdoor patio is very pretty. Our server are very nice and quite knowledgeable. The Bad: Even though the NY Strip was listed as the main entrée - and it was listed specifically as "NY Strip" - we received two bite-size pieces of it. It was very good, but I think the main entrée should be more. Also, the entire process took four hours! I understand about an elegant seven-course dinner taking longer, but four hours? Had I been aware of these two facts, I wouldn't have gone."

  • "The ambiance, food (on the gormet) list, and the attention to detail and service eas excellent. This was my third experience and never dissappointing."

  • "Had a special gathering with 5 of my girlfriends and it was my first time in.. So impressed with the hor d'oeuvres served in the wine seller prior to being seated and wowed by the som wine pairings we were served with dinner. The staff happily served a special dessert we brought in and truly catered to our occasion. Definitely a spot for a special occasion, but will surely be back soon!"

  • "We try to get to the Hobbit a couple of times a year for special occasions. This visit was with friends who had never before been. From the excellent cocktails upstairs to the appetizers in the wine cellar and the fantastic menu, it was a wonderful evening."

  • "My husband and I dined at The Hobbit for the first time and absolutely loved everything about it!!! We celebrated our wedding anniversary...and we'll definitely be dining there more often!!! Cheers!"

  • "Cocktails in the attic. Champagne and Hors d' oveures in the wine cellar, then 5 courses with an intermission. All done with impeccable service and style. Not an inexpensive evening, but well worth it for a special occasion. We will go back!!"

  • "My wife and I have been here twice now, and both times were first class experiences. The service was excellent and the food was excellent. This is a place that is great for very special occasions."

  • "Our second visit to the Hobbit and I cannot say enough good about Chef, Deborah, and the entire staff at the Hobbit. They make you feel like royalty! I am world traveled and have eaten at many fine restaurants including San Francisco, Paris, London, Florence, and the Hobbit is a world class gastronomical experience. Having a special occasion? This is the place to make it extraordinary."

  • "Always remarkable dining experience. Each dish is presented in a memorable fashion which will leave an impression for a long time. Pace yourself as the evening starts with a wide array of hors d'ouevres that are very tempting."

  • "The food was absolutely amaizing, the experience was fun but the waiting between courses was too long. It was 4 hours and by the time we were done i was hungry again."

  • "We had such a wonderful dining experience at the Hobbit, the place is so cute and unique. The service was amazing, would highly recommend."

  • "A great special occasion experience. Seven courses. Fixed menu. Our bill was $185 for two and we don't drink alcohol. Only go here with people you really like and can converse comfortably with because it's a long night. Three and a half hours from start to finish. Is tempting but don't fill up on the hors d'oeuvres or you'll never make it. "

  • "The hors d'oeuvre and food were great, the champagne was real - tiny, long lasting bubbles. The service people were attentive and very professional."
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "A truly pampered experience. The website's accurate, it's a three-act dining experience with each of the seven courses magnificent. Ladies, bring a wrap. They keep the main dining room cool, and if your table's in the wine cellar, it's cold."

  • "Took my girlfriend here for a romantic night out. Absolutely outstanding from the moment we walked in the door. Champagne and hors devours to start off in the wine cellar and followed by 7 courses of culinary bliss. "

  • "The bar is high and always met at the Hobbit. It is a total experience that leaves you with a true understanding of fine dining. A wine selection second to none. Presentation and taste that is truly five star. "

  • "There is not a better restaurant I can think of to give someone a special evening. We took close friends for their 25th wedding anniversary and everything was impeccable and with class and dignity."

  • "We all had a memorable time celebrating our wife, mother, grandmothers 80th. It was an event that will remain in our memories just as our last visit 35 years ago has. I was afraid that over the years the quality may have slipped but in our opinion I think it has not. "

  • "The best way to describe The Hobbit is it is an experience. The mere characterization as a restaraunt is an understatement. I suggest getting there early by at least a half a hour to mingle upstairs with the other patrons for a drink before dinner. The food is superb. The appetizers were particular flavorful and were served in the wine cellar which has a LARGE selection of wines. Dinner is served over three and a half hours with an intermission, which provides plenty of time to chat with whoever is with you. I encourage a visit to the kitchen at intermission to meet the chef. This is a great place for foodies. "

  • "Wonderful restaurant to go to for a special occasion such as a birthday or an anniversary. This is our second time back and we enjoyed it as much as the first time. We enjoyed our champagne and appetizer in the wine cellar. I had the alternate entree, swordfish and it was delicious. My husband had the New York Strip. He was disappointed in the size of his New York Strip. We enjoyed our dessert , almond cake with apricot ice cream. For our anniversary we were surprised with a special drink that the Hobbit made special for couples celebrating their anniversary. We are guessing it was Cognac with Grand Marnier. Overall our experience in dining at the Hobbit was wonderful."

  • "Though this isn't a place you would go to often, for a special occasion it's Perfect. Interesting cozy atmosphere. Wonderful food paired with delicious wines. Yes it's expensive but sometimes you just need to treat yourself and your loved ones to something extraordinary. "

  • "If you are celebrating a special occasion, I cannot imagine a better place to go. The food was absolutely above reproach, the service was beautiful and the entire experience was among the most enjoyable dining adventures I can remember. I don't know how they could have made it better. Moreover, the price, bearing in mind the quality of the food, the courses, and the service, was very reasonable."

  • "I brought my wife here on a surprise date night, and it definitely did not disappoint. We both had never been there before, but from the moment we walked in the door and was greeted by the Executive Chef/Owner we knew we were in for a special treat. All food was excellent and the wine we had from their cellar was probably the best bottle my wife and I have had ever...I don't recall the name, but I took a picture of the bottle to remember later. Definitely would recommend for a special occasion/night out with the Mrs."

  • "Dining at The Hobbit is a truly unique experience. Starting in the wine cellar with appetizers and champagne through the 6 course pre fixe meal, this is a meal to remember. The Beef Wellington this night was very good but I've had better in numerous restaurants. I suspect one reason for that is California's ban on foie gras. At $78/person for 6 courses, the price is reasonable. They make their real profit in the wine cellar, however, as the wines are priced 3 to 4 times the retail price. This is a fine restaurant."

  • "The total experience is the appeal - the cocktails, the intimate feel, the wine cellar, the great service & food all combine to make a memorable evening. The hors d'oeuvres in the cellar is always a hit, meeting the chefs & other people, seeing what new goodies they come up with. The dinner courses themselves are very good and presented well. The fish was good, the salad was interesting with dried tomato garnish (idea for home :), the lamb was a little unexpected as the main course was beef wellington. I was looking forward to this, as I wanted to see what their take was on this classic dish. It was presented well and tasted good. It had a good layer of pate on it, which my wife especially liked. One wine flight was enough for both of us."

  • "For nearly 20 years we have heard about The Hobbit "experience,'' an evening of fine food, wine and ambiance. On this evening the main entree was what attracted us, New York strip steak in bernease sauce. But right from the start we were pleasantly surprised by the delicious hors d'oeuvre selection, the friendliness of the staff and each succeeding course in this 7-course feast. This sort of quality and quantity does not come cheap, totalling nearly $350 for two for the evening, but it was an evening to remember, for the food and the experience."

  • "The Hobbit experience is a 3 1/2 hour long food and wine heaven for a reasonable price. Great for dining with friends, family, or significant other. The servers were prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and discreet. "

  • "Having heard about the Hobbit restaurant from people who live in the area (I am from Texas) I decided to book a reservation for a birthday celebration. What you see and read on their website is what you can expect except for one item. The ambiance of the restaurant was quiet and tastefully decorated. Clearly the restaurant was converted from an old house, but regardless, the conversion was well done. My party arrived just after 6:30PM and left at 11PM. This is not the sit, eat, and run dinning experience which is why I wanted to try it out. The various courses were well prepared and well presented. Since the menu changes all the time just make sure you look on the website for what is being served for any night you wish to go. "

  • "This place went above and beyond my expectations. I was in town visiting my boyfriend, as we do the long distance thing, and knowing my love for all things Tolkien and my appreciation for fine dining he decided to take me there. I loved how dinner was broken up into acts so that I had plenty of time to digest and was able to enjoy each course, although their wine cellar was amazing. The staff was very courteous and accommodating and I liked how intimate the dinner was with strangers, as they only serve 20-25 people at night keeping the noise to a minimum. The patio was great and the bar upstairs was stocked with great liquor. Overall, we had a great time and will be going back again soon!"

  • "You go to The Hobbit for good food and a fabulous experience. I have been about 5 times in the past 10 years and the appitizers have always been the same. I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing. The food is solid, not inventive. There are no foams or spheres. You will find classic dishes with old school charm, a great wine cellar, and an amazing evening."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "While the food was delicious, we got there at 6:30 with no place to sit or stand. You could not move around the wine cellar and the noise in the dinning room was headache worthy. The service was just fair. They never asked our non wine drinkers if they wanted anything. On the $45 per person wine flight, we were not offered a choice where the menu indicated we had one. The food was not described at any point. We were not offered coffee. It felt like a dinner banquet. Our expectations were much higher for the 5 star prices."
