A word from The Hobbit
The Hobbit offers a 7 course prix-fixe menu Wed-Sun with one seating per evening. Cost per person is $78 (plus tax, tip & beverage). Our food is "Contemporary Continental" a reference to its encompassing many world cuisines.

We begin the evening in our wine cellar where you are handed a flute of Hobbit Champagne. Hors d'oeuvres are placed throughout the cellar, sommelier Tiffany Cox & wait staff are there to help you select wines for dinner with over 1000 labels to choose from!

Guests are then invited upstairs - you will be served a shellfish or fish first course then a fowl or light meat, followed by a salad course. After you enjoy "intermission" (visit the kitchen to speak with the chefs, take a walk, and relax on the patios).

15 minutes later guests return to their refreshed table for a flavorful sorbet palate-cleanser. The main entrée is served complete with accompanying vegetables. Dessert arrives next, along with a list of after dinner drinks and liqueurs.

Six of us celebrated our special birthdays together and this was the perfect place to do it! Dining is truly an experience at The Hobbit. We completely enjoyed the ambiance of the space, from the wine cellar to the dining room to the lounges upstairs. Food was exquisite and we loved talking with the chef and visiting the kitchen. Staff was helpful and friendly. We loved our evening at The Hobbit!

Wow! This place is amazing! My wife and I went for our 1 year anniversary and we had a great time. It's a 3 hour dining experience that does not drag. The staff is great and friendly. The place itself is amazing. You walk around the restaurant (it was actually a home before it became a restaurant) while you wait for dinner. You start in the wine cellar and eat some delicious appetizers while picking a bottle of wine. Then the staff let everyone know to go upstairs into the dining room to start the first dish. After two dishes and salad, there's in intermission. You leave the table for the staff to prepare for the main course, meanwhile you can continue to walk around the "house" and even go in the kitchen and talk with the chef. There's patio area to get some fresh air and talk to other couples there. They call you back in, you get a sorbet and the final dish is served. Dessert is last. I'd write what the dish was but they say every night is a different dish. Reserve a table in advance because this place is full every night.

The evening was paired perfect. First time to The Hobbit. My wife and I wanted a place to share quality time with friends from the good old days. Very soothing surroundings for remminecing our lost years together. The service is great! Amazing dinner, wonderful choice of wines and quality drinks. Definitely an experience which deserves a return. A memorable evening to create our new 'good old days'.

A Foodie bucket list checked. Finally made it to this fine restaurant in Orange, where you come for "unique dining experience," and only 50 guests served each night. Imagine dining as a royal guest at someone's house, and each meal is served in different stages. Food was incredibly delicious & decadent, and service was amazing. The restaurant is at a quaint 4-level old house, built in the 1930s. Highly recommend this place for an amazing and rather unique experience. This is definitely a special occassions restaurant, and advance reservation is a must.

My family of eight visited the Hobbit and enjoyed a delightful evening. As always, for me, the cellar appetizers are a high point of the evening. The French Sandwich is a personal favorite. Great food, welcoming atmosphere and good company create an evening to remember. Our adult kids thoroughly enjoyed visiting the kitchen and meeting the chef. Will return again.

This is my 31st visit since its 2nd year of operation when the present owner's parents started the restaurant in the 1970's. There were more courses then, the evening lasted longer and the food seemed slightly better . . . but perhaps I was younger and the experience more exciting! Still one of my favorite experiences each year.

I have come to the conclusion that apparently I have never had a proper dining experience until now. The attentive staff, excellent food, and overall atmosphere were fantastic. I never knew I could enjoy beef that much (beef Wellington)! Also, that was the best prepared scallop I've eaten in my life thus far. The staff remembered comments we had made or questions we had asked such as the fact that I had never tried a French wine, and they were present and attentive without being overbearing. While this is a very expensive treat that I wouldn't be able to enjoy often, I am glad I was able to experience all that the Hobbit had to offer.

This was our second time here, and just as enjoyable as the first. We'll be coming back from time-to-time for special occasions. Service is excellent -- very attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere is very enjoyable, although my wife had a little bit of trouble hearing me once in awhile due to a noisier table nearby. I gave the food 4 stars because the chef has a very good palate for spices, but needs to trust his spices and back off on the salt about 5% to let them shine through.

Went here for my 16th wedding anniversary. I heard great things about it. The place is great. The service was amazing. If you love wine, this is the place for you. First stop, champagne and viewing the wine cellar for a bottle or glass with dinner. They also offer pairings with dinner. Either way, you can arrive an hour early and enjoy the bar, followed by champagne, and then wine service. Take a cab. It is a seven course meal served with lots of spirits. The food was good, not great. The scallops were a bit under cooked. The flavor was good and the pairings were spot on with each dish. If you have the money (150-200 per person) and like French food then it is a great place to try.

We went to The Hobbit for our anniversary and experienced a wonderful evening as in past visits over the past 20 years. The menu is set each evening and we usually have foods that we would not order off of a menu. The tastes and presentation are excellent and make going out of our comfort zone that much more rewarding. We enjoy the variety including seafood, fowl, beef dishes as well as salad and dessert. The appetizers in the wine cellar preceed dining and are so good that it is a challenge to just taste one or two of each. Everything about the dining experience justifies the price. We do not go there often, but look forward to the next opportunity.

This was my 4th time dining at the Hobbit and I had loved every min. of it before. We were seated at the first table on the left, we were served last on every course. We were never approached from the staff as to how our food was up until the main entree. The scallop was rubbery, I gave it to my son, the quail skin was slimy and rubbery also, I tried to give that to my son but even he didn't want it. The fig salad was very good. The sorbet was very sour. Entree Filet Mignon excellent. Almond cake was so hard it was almost impossible to cut it with a fork. I ended up embarrassed that I took my son here for his birthday as I had built it up to such high standards. The owners had taken the day off. I expected plate great presentation.

I have been to the hobbit several times now and every time it is as wonderful as it was the last time. Having the opportunity to start your evening at the upstairs bar followed by a trip to the wine cellar downstairs with a glass of champagne is a great way to begin a meal. Then of course the perfect service that they provide in the main dining area is second to none. Be prepared to enjoy several courses of wonderful and interesting imaginative food!

This was 3 out of the 4 of our first time at this restaurant. I had heard rave reviews, but at almost $80/person (without wine), it's a big expense. You walk in and are greeted immediately and handed a champagne glass, instructed to head to the wine cellar for appetizers. They have great wine, but pay attention to the prices because you might get convinced into a $200 bottle. After you are seated for dinner, I would estimate it was at least 20 minutes between each of the 3 appetizers that you're given. Then after a 15 min break, you sit back down for the main course. We waited at least another 25-30 minutes for that to come out. The presentations and food was amazing, but the dinner was too slow! Got there at 7:30, got our check at 11pm!

We hadn't been to the Hobbit in several years- don't know why, probably distance from our home, but it was wonderful to re-discover. The food, service and ambiance are reminiscent of a great French restaurant. I love the remodeled bar upstairs- kind of "speak-easy" in style and a lovely beginning to the evening. The downstairs wind cellar is a real showcase of premium labels and hard to find wines. Definitely a great place for a celebration!

Champagne and Hors d' Oeuvres are always a hit, and we feast on these. I like the champagne as a cocktail beforehand. Seared scallops over Israeli couscous with tomato buerre blanc was good. The quail was decent, good to have something different. My wife thought hers was dry. The crispy noodles I thought added nothing to the dish, but she didn't mind. The stuffed filet mignon was good, but tasted a bit dry to me. The mushroom stuffing was ordinary. One similiar theme I noticed among these courses was that they were all room temperature, and I'm sure that that affected the taste. All in all, the Hobbit is a good place to dine and I'm sure to be back, but this night's experience was something of a letdown, considering the past experiences.

The overall experience was great, but it only gets better as the night rolls on. The excitement is strong as the wine cellar fills in preparation for the night leading into wine selection. I read a review and I want to pass on the warning. If you enjoy wine be prepared to buy the table side bottle and not by the glass. The food was outstanding and it left me wanting more every time the dish was taken away, but also quickly forgotten as the new dish was placed in front of me. It was definitely worth the experience and I have and will continue to recommend as an experience you have to enjoy at least once. Make sure dinner with people you enjoy chatting with. The noise level is low, romantic and very private. Enjoy!

Love the ambience, it's unique, one-of-a-kind. Food was very very good, but not the best I've had, still great. Everything else was perfect, service was impeccable. We did the wine pairing and in retrospect we wish we'd purchased a bottle. Wines were good, but the only one we really enjoyed was the red wine served with the entree which was excellent, the others were just OK.

Dining at The Hobbit was a unique experience. Very cozy ambience that transitioned from an outdoor patio to the upstairs bar to the wine cellar to the main dining room to the upstairs lounge and finally back to the dining room to finish off the evening. Plan on a 3 hour dinner and a fairly hefty bill. Everything was very good. Only thing I would change would to have it a bit more Middle Earth themed (thinking circular doors, rock features, etc.); there were a variety of styles throughout the restaurant.

This was the best meal I have ever had. At $75 per dinner, I can't go back every night, but I want to! Everything perfectly cooked and perfectly balanced. I died and went to heaven. I am still mourning the fact that I can't go back and live there.
