Our over all experience was a great one. Food was fantastic, timing of food delivery was spot on. Our waitress tend to ignore us a lot. We had to physically walk over to get her attention, (a few times) even as simple as to get coffee refills. We will definitely come back.

I have been to the Highwood on numerous occasions in the past and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Appreciating that this is a classroom for the cullinary students, the instructors and supervisors completely missed the mark! Food service was very slow (3 hours for dinner), menu selection poor this time. Waited a long time for the bill and not until I asked one of the other student servers did I find out they were having problem with their credit card processing machine. The instructors need to step up their game!!!

The Highwood dining room is a training restaurant for future high end servers and chefs. We attended the Highwood before a Theatre performance at the Jubilee Auditorium Our servers were pleasant, attentive and tried really hard to provide good service. We advised them of our theatre time and we were able to finish in time for our show. The 4 course meal was well prepared and delightfully plated. We hadn't plan to eat quite as much but the food was all quite tasty, the portions were not too large and we enjoyed our meal. Ensure you have two hours to relax and enjoy dinner. We did and we used most of that time.

Spent a lovely evening at the Highwood Grill on Monday. Room was lightly decorated for the upcoming festive season and we appreciated that the music was soft and in the background. Service was very attentive and Lan was quite charming as he facilitated our choices. Disappointing that the two first mains we would have chosen were no longer available, but the explanation provided regarding providing a learning experience for all students made sense and we were pleased with our secondary choices.

I've been meaning to try the Highwood for a very long time but had never got around to it (tables fill up fast so you need to reserve a good few weeks in advance if you're picky about time). Finally, I committed and made a reservation for dinner. The restaurant is part of the culinary arts and hospitality programs offered at SAIT. There are about 40 students preparing food, making drinks and serving on any one night. The kitchen is pretty open so you can see them all looking nervous as they prepare food and drink, it's pretty charming. The food was delicious. Some things were better than others, but overall the dishes were interesting and absolutely scrumptious. The presentation is also exceptional. The chocolate dessert was my favourite part with green tea cake, a soft chocolate bar, mousse and raspberry pearls. Yum. Service was really good. There were one or two fumbles on the part of the students, but nothing terrible. Food and drinks were served in reasonable amounts of time and everyone was really nice, albeit a bit nervous. The price is incredibly reasonable. For dinner, you must get a five course meal, which comes to $47. You can't find a better deal than that for this quality. That said, make sure you're ready for five courses and make it worth it. The only downside is that parking is slightly inconvenient. You'll need to walk a couple of blocks across the SAIT compass to get to the Highwood from any parking lot or parkade. Still, a small price to pay. I'm excited to try it again and see what else the kitchen is cooking.

The Highwood is an interesting dining experience. Staffed by nervous, yet eager students, it is one of a kind. The food is diverse, heavy on meat and seafood. The Carrot Tasting is wonderful. If you have a fussiness or specific diet, this might not be for you. However, if you are a foodie looking for something out of the ordinary, The Highwood is a hidden gem

The Highwood is unique in Calgary in that you can count on a mixture of great menu items, energetic service, and a prix fixe evening that offers good value. Challenge #1 - be aware that parking is not always easy to find and whoever parks the car may have to navigate through the campus to reconnect with their party. The food was top notch - well prepared, thoughtful dishes with elegant presentation, and it is satisfying to have several courses to enjoy. Challenge #2- do not count on your server to be able to explain the menu or drink items to you, as it may well be their first night on the job (like ours). However, the dining room managers (instructors) are more than able to enhance the knowledge of their charges and provide you with the explanations you require. All of the service staff - and there are many - are polite, engaging, and trying their best, which is unfortunately a pretty rare experience in this town. We enjoyed our evening as a couple, but I think the Highwood is probably best suited for getting together with friend or co-workers to enjoy a relaxed or celebratory night out. While the wine menu and drink choices are limited, there are enough to complement your meal, and the dessert bar has many delicious items. We look forward to our next visit.

First lunch at Highwood this season. The menu has changed quite a lot with a fair amount of Asian influence to make some dishes look like an adventure! Always good to try something new, although I have to admit I stuck to the more standard fare. Service was a bit nervous but attentive with coffee and water refills provided at just the right times and food presented nicely. Always good value to come to the Highwood and will definitely be back! Thanks!

Elegant but not pretentious. Presentation of the food matched the tasty flavors. The venison was tender & moist. The Cornish hen was slightly overcooked & not as fancy as expected. The beets were delicious, as was the fresh made bread & butter. Undoubtably, the highlight for everyone were the buffet style dessert choices.

We go to the Highwood at least once per semester and have been finding it is going a little over the top as far as their creations go. More ingredients is not necessarily better and in several of the dishes they did not go well together at all. Some of the dishes on the last couple of menus border on the absurd. Service, however, has been much better of late.

I consider myself a true foodie. I always think the menu looks intriguing; however, this being my 4th visit I wasn't sure that I wanted to go as nothing really jumped out at me. But I go every semester and thought no matter what, I will find something. I was wrong about this menu, it was outstanding. We all agreed, the best yet. I wanted to try everything once I saw it, or it was described to me. There was nothing but oohs, and yum's from our table of three and it was simply superb. So good in fact I am considering to book again for this semester. The tastes were extraordinary and the presentation almost too pretty to eat, but the smells were so divine we had to dig in. SAIT chefs you have outdone yourselves this semester. Well done!

Made a reservation for two. Arrived 5-10 mins early and did not find anyone at the entrance. We hung up our coats & waited. More people arrived and then staff appeared. We waited until staff was free, approached, gave our name and mentioned the reservation. Staff checked the computer and then made a comment about just getting set up. We sat and waited while, various people & different sized groups arrived and were seated. Finally when no one else remained in the foyer, we were asked how many more people were we waiting for. We reiterated the reservation for two. An apology was given but the process being used is not very efficient. We were prompt. To be made to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time on a special night...

It's interesting to get a classy meal done by students, I've been several times now and there is always hit or miss sections over the course of the night. This time the appetizer, soup, salad and side were quite tasty and well done. Even the bread was done well. However, I ordered the striploin, and it may have been the worst steak I've ever had. It was done rare as I requested but it was just tasteless and felt like it was made out of some lesser quality meat. It was quite a surprise as the rest of the meal was pretty good, but they are students who cook the food so you have to expect it to not be perfect.

We had dinner here on Oct. 23rd., a birthday celebration. Rack of Lamb came lukewarm, returned, re-heated but the cut had as much fat on the bones as the total of 6 bites of meat. Gross! Appetizers just o.k as were some of the desserts. A couple of pastries dried up, "stale" taste. Wine waiter ignorant. Should have asked for advise from whoever was in charge of that area. He kept coming to see if we wanted anything more to drink while still drinking our wine. Throughout the meal, we poured our own wine .... nobody offered to do so. Very slow between appetizers and main course ....... a wait of 25 minutes. No Maitre'd to check such things.

My husband and I invited another couple to "do" gourmet eating at the Highwood. We were seated in good time, were treated to most excellent service by everyone attending our table and thoroughly enjoyed every course we were served. It was great to have so many choices and every choice being a real taste treat. Having hit the Highwood on a Thursday night, we were treated to the open unbelievably delectable dessert bar. Our only complaint was that the dessert plates were too small to accommodate all of our choices and some of us made more than one trip. We would highly recommend the Highwood Dining Room for a superb eating experience, whether yoiu book in for lunch or dinner.

The Highwood Dining room was very disappointing. We expected more for the cost. The food was presented nicely but was not very flavorful. The caesar salad was prepared at the table but was very bland. The roast was tough and dry although the gravy was very good. They were out of the fish at 12:30 for lunch so had the pad thai instead which was okay. The mocktails were very good. The service was very good. For some reason, the menus were left on the table until we ordered dessert.

Every other time I have been to the Highwood, the experience was absolutely wonderful. This time, the food didn't quite meet expectations. I found the striploin a bit tough and the potatoe choice was bizarre. The veg seemed a bit overdone. Everything else was excellent! The desserts are to die for, and wine selection was very good.

We dined here for lunch last Friday. There were 5 of us, 3 had the charcuterie (it was excellent), 1 had the special starter (it was avg, she wouldn't get it again) and one had the pumpkin soup (over seasoned). The mains were alright, I wasn't wowed with the lamb special, and it was a touch over seasoned as well, the baked potato offered with the Bento box was strange, rice or another grain would have been more welcome. The service was good, our server was obvs new as he lacked knowledge of the menu. He however was very friendly and very attentive.

We've eaten at Highwood a dozen or so times. This visit in Oct. was very disappointing: undercooked, tough sirloin roast--but the gravy and mashed potatoes were good. Very stingy with vegetables for almost all meals every time we've been. One would expect that especially a culinary school would encourage healthy, balanced meals, complete with full portions of vegetables, not just a parsnip or lettuce leaf here and there for presentation. Also, it would help if the menu gave more information about the dishes in addition (or in place of?) the esoteric invented names that don't reveal much. The students and staff, however, are extremely pleasant and helpful.

I had another enjoyable experience at the Highwood, however as my lunch was very business oriented there were 2 things - lack of privacy and my inability to really focus on the meal and the service, which were both excellent!
