The School of Hospitality and Tourism at SAIT Polytechnic proudly presents the Highwood Dining Room, a tastefully appointed restaurant that allows our students to provide world class cuisine and service in a live classroom environment. Under the expert guidance of our innovative Chefs and Hospitality Management instructors, your experience will be one to remember.
Our menus feature fresh and local products. Our Chefs are now designing Celiac friendly menus! Whether it's an a`la carte lunch of daily features or our five course dinner ($46.00 + tax), the Highwood provides a unique experience for both guests and students. We would be delighted to be your host. Thank you for supporting our live classroom the Highwood Dining Room. Our dining room is closed on weekends and holidays.

And the menu did not do a good job of describing the meal received. But, as always, I look forward to the fall when I can enjoy the new menu experience. Keep up the good work."

  • "Our family of four have been semi-annual 'regulars' at The Highwood Dining Room for many years. We love the food and the quietly elegant ambience. But remember, this is a live classroom and the students are not (yet) professional servers or bartenders. That aside, they try harder to please their patrons than at any other Calgary restaurant -- maybe any restaurant I've ever been to anywhere. You will find more 'professional' service elsewhere but you will not find friendlier servers (and teachers), better food, or better value for your dining dollar. The only hitch for newbies is that it's only open during the school year, it's only open for dinner from Mon-Thu, and you have to book weeks (perhaps months) in advance. But it's worth it."

  • "Thought that the smoked duck appetizer was wonderful. Had very nice flavors that meshed with the cheese perfectly. The cornish chicken breast on top of the bed of cranberry dressing was over the top. Would definitely recommend it to anyone. Felt that the parsnip could have been a little more cooked for my taste; but overall the experience with all the dishes were spot on. The dessert choices were amazing and we savored every bite of chocolate souffle and icecream. Very decadent."

  • "I have been to the Highwood at least a dozen times over the past 5 or 6 years. The food is for the most part creative and tasty. My latest visit left me wondering if I would come back. The soup was served tepid and there were a couple of items that people commented on the saltiness of; most noticeable the crab risotto. Quality control coming out of the kitchen needs to be stepped up. The meal was nice, but given the price charged, I am not convinced we got the "bang for our buck". "

  • "The noise of the blender grinding ice at the bar was disrupting. If it was possible to mask that noise it would improve the experience. The gravlox had no flavour - the dish itself was tasty (potatoes, etc) but the gravlox was very blarnd All our student servers were great - they explained things, cleared the table weill, were polite and knowledgable. I would recommend the Highwood to anyone (and frequently do!!)"

  • "For the 3rd year in a row, my work group has enjoyed having our annual recognition luncheon at Highwood Dining Room. The Highwood provides the perfect atmosphere for our luncheon. Ambience, service, and food were all excellent. Because it is a learning environment, we appreciate being able to enjoy an elegant meal at much lower prices than other restaurants would charge for similar menu items. We had one small service related issue, but the issue was fixed immediately, and both the staff and manager apologized."

  • "Our family lunch was to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday and she remembered enjoying visiting the Highwood dining room many years ago, so we thought it would be a good choice for a quiet location. It proved to be a perfect choice. There is an elevator to reach the second floor. Our server was superb, it was the first day of the student rotation so there were a couple of small mistakes which were readily corrected. There were lots of menu choices and everyone was able to find something appealing. This is not a place to choose for a quick lunch, we took two hours to enjoy the experience, and had three courses. Presentation of all the dishes was beautiful, adding to the enjoyment, especially the desserts."

As we got a late start not everyone was able to order their starter of choice (a very popular quinoa salad) but very understandable in a teaching environment. Service was just the right degree of attentitive and the sparkler in dessert for our birthday girl was much appreciated. Many thanks also to Chantal for her assistance and flexibility in booking a large group with last minute changes in numbers. We will be back in the fall!"

  • "The Highwood is a fantastic place to bring someone for a 5 star 5 course meal on a special occasion - especially if finances wouldn't allow for such a treat otherwise. We brought a friend there for her birthday on Monday. The food presentation was incredible. We all enjoyed our appetizers and main courses immensely. At our table, we enjoyed sablefish, sirloin and lamb, with high scores for each. The desserts were incredible. Many FB photos of the individual courses were posted by the birthday girl. The entire 5 course meal was $46. The student servers were very conscientious about fulfilling their tasks to a T, sometimes with some nervousness, but the flip side is that we were very well tended to."

  • "My husband and I were at the Highwood for dinner last year and really enjoyed the excellent, fresh food and enthusiastic (if not perhaps a little nervous!) service. Our dinner on Thursday night was once again excellent with a wonderful selection of starters, 2 salads, 2 soups and a number of mains - it was hard to choose what to have. No matter, all was beautifully presented and tasted great. The only sad thing was that normally Thurs nights have a dessert buffet but this time we had to order dessert from the menu - to make up for no buffet there were 3 additional desserts to choose from. Great deal for a 5 course fixed price menu. Just do it!"

  • "We all enjoyed our experience. We were a group of eight and everything came together. Service was very good considering they were students and and in the learning stage. One guest thought that their entree should have been hotter, but no other concerns. I think your wine selection is terrible, I work in the trade and felt that for a fine dining experience the list fit a Roadhouse at best. I was also disappointed that your prices were high considering that the drinks served by the students were very reasonable. Corkage may be an option. The group will definitely return."
