Diner Reviews
  • "I'm not sure what happened to this place, it used to be my favorite neighborhood spot. The food was mediocre at best and the service was average. It's too bad."

  • "A group of about 10 people went to The Heights for brunch on a Sunday. The food was great and the service was particularly excellent. I had eggs in tomato sauce, and asked for extra plain bread for dipping which was provided to me at no extra charge. The orange juice is 'freshly squeezed,' though I'm a bit suspicious about this since it was too yellow. In any case, it was delicious and cheaper than in most places I've been to for brunch. Most importantly for groups, they offered to split the bill individually without us even asking for it. For this they get extra high marks. They were flexible on group size (a few dropping out or in), which was also better than most other brunch spots in DC."

  • "Our first time stayng in Columbia Heights, we went there for Sunday brunch and The Heights was everything we could ask for?Outstanding menu. Omelettes, THICK French toast, pulled chicken over black beans with a fried egg on top with corn tortillas, etc. Glad we had resos for 9:45am, 'cause by 10:10 every table was taken. You can eat at a table, a booth, a tall table in the front window, or at the bar. So many options of Bloody Marys to choose from or design your own. The bread basket alone is worth the trip!! Truly, a fantastic recommendation passed onto us, which I now pass onto you."

  • "The Heights had great entrée options that proved to be different from other restaurants. Loved the atmosphere."

  • "It's a nice neighborhood spot but wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. The food is bland. The drinks are just ok. And the service was very subpar."

  • "I had the eggs benedict, and a build-your-own bloody mary. Both were incredible, can't wait to go back."

  • "For a Thursday night date, it was a great atmosphere - cool decor and nice lighting, a-hum with the pleasant sound of other patrons enjoying a good meal and the occasional clatter of forks on plates. The staff attentive with a good sense of humor. Would definitely go back again."

  • "We had a group of 8 in a family gathering (kids & adults) and had a great time. We were able to sit in the back round table, which was great."

  • "The Heights is my favorite place for a meal before a show at the Gala Theater. There's parking in the Giant lot on the next block, too. This time I had the delicious sweet potato soup, with a surprising marshmallow and some seeds in it, too. The main dish of Grilled Arctic Char, shiitake mushrooms, potato-parsnip puree, wilted greens, black garlic vinaigrette was excellent. We shared the mango key lime pie, which is always a treat. I always enjoy this place, but I miss the bread baskets, which they replaced with crackers in recent months."

  • "Met a friend for dinner during their "extended Restaurant Week". It was a great deal, the food was very good, and we had first class service. Definitely a neighborhood gem!"

  • "I really enjoyed The Heights. Our waiter was very nice and informative. He discussed food options and how it is prepared which was awesome. It was my first time and I have food allergies. I love not having to guess what was in my order because if my waiter."

  • "Since I was going to be in the Columbia Heights area, I looked on OT for a restaurant and this is the only one that came up. The menu looked interesting enough for lunch. Service was friendly; food was fine (though the house potato soup, while hot, lacked taste except for the marshmallow). Both of our sandwiches were inventive and tasty. I would go back again, esp. to lunch out on the patio."

  • "I went to The Heights a couple years ago and was very impressed by the service and the menu, but the dishes were all too salty. I stopped in on a Friday night since moving back to the neighborhood and was delighted that the service remained consistent, and the quality of the food had much improved. From starters through dessert, I was pleased with the original dishes and the execution. Will definitely be a regular addition to my rotation of restaurants."

  • "My girlfriend, a young friend of hers, and I went to The Heights for dinner after lectures at the Smithsonian. I found the Homemade Fettucini with Fennel Sausage very tasty, but my girlfriend was disappointed by the Fried Green Tomatoes."

  • "Went on Sunday night with friends and their kids - one an 8 year old, the other an infant. Great food for both adults and the kiddos (one had the mac and cheese and it was the "greatest"). My dinner was phenomenal - scallops, pork and the popcorn sundae. Wow! what a great place."

  • "I'll keep my review short and sweet. I made reservations here for dinner and showed up an hour early. We were accommodated by the restaurant and seated early. We opted for the NYE dinner menu sans alcohol as neither of us drink, this was a nice option to have available as I don't often see this available at most restaurants. Each course was pretty good but towards the end of our meal we started to feel rushed as restaurant staff started to clear tables right next to us to seat a large party and our table was right in between the area they were trying to pull together. Overall, I'd return for a casual meal especially if in the area for another event."

  • "I came in with a large group of rowdy relatives in silly Santa hats on Christmas Eve. I was a little worried about taking such a large group, but the Heights handled it expertly. The cocktails and food were incredible, and everyone had an excellent time! Our server was excellent, the food came out in a timely fashion even though they were packed and we ordered a lot. It was an excellent night, and I am so glad we spent it at the Heights. Best dishes of the night were voted on- my Sicilian-style PEI mussels and my dad's duck confit both had to be guarded from jealous cousins. Also the cocktails were on-point and delicious- if we'd had any more fun they'd have had to send us home early! Thank you, Heights!"

  • "We had a group of 6 looking for a NYE reservation which is really hard, especially because we had people in our party with food restrictions. The Heights was great. We were a bit reluctant because of some unfavorable reviews on other review sites, but everyone was pleasantly surprised. They have a special Gluten Free menu with lots of options, and the regular menu had great diversity. Of course a menu can look good but when you get the food you are less then impressed, but that didn't happen. Every time a dish came out we were more impressed. The smoked mashed potatoes were AMAZING, the duck confit was perfect, and I'm trying to figure out how to recreate the lentil roasted vegetable salad at home."

  • "It's a very nice open space for brunch, and if you're lucky (as we were this time with our party of six) you can get a big table in the back, with lots of space around it. The food is good to very good, although this time our brunch entrees arrived warm rather than hot. Service is sleepy: after waiting 15 minutes for my bloody mary I had to get up and remind the waiter. It finally arrived after we had finished eating our meals, which is not great."

  • "Fabulous place. Asked for a a table out of the way since we had an infant. They seated us away from the crowd in a cosy corner. The service was great as was the food. The mussels were cooked to perfection, tender and delicious . The haddock was especially good. Would highly recommend it."
