The Heathman Restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Portland and in the midst of the city’s theatre district.

Executive Chef Michael Stanton uses the very best in seafood, steaks, game, and more: from line caught salmon to organically raised lamb….from heirloom tomatoes to the best berries and fruit available in the Willamette Valley. The Heathman Restaurant takes advantage of local bay shrimp and Oregon razor clams when they are at the peak of season, they use mushrooms unearthed and brought to the kitchen early each morning. The menu aspires to be a constant expression of the vast diversity of ingredients that Oregon has to offer.

The extensive and award winning wine list showcases the best of the Willamette Valley, Southern Oregon, Washington and the rest of the Pacific North West, as well as some of the best wines of Burgundy, Bordeaux, and all the classic New and Old World wine regions.

If I hadn't had show tickets and limited time I would have never kept it. As it was, I filled up on bread and French fries from my wife's steak, which by the way was very good."

The red wine came cold, although they did warm it up for us when requested. I would not recommend this place for the food. I don't mind paying these prices but expect exceptional quality, not ordinary."

  • "The three-course Restaurant Month special wasn't. The entire three courses could have fit into a tiny tea cup. The restauranteurs here must truly despise their customers. The seafood salad was a smear of seafood essence; the rabbit was two bites (bits) of mystery meat and the dessert wasn't even tasting menu size. It was a joke but we left very unhappy. I didn't look back to see if the staff were laughing. Good luck with your anger management sessions."

  • "Chose The Heathman for my mother's 74th b'day brunch, in part from past experience - which has always been positive - and in part because it's been one of my mom's favorites for years. Unfortunately, the food, which was delicious, and plentiful, was outdone by a very curt and put-out waitress. This was a big surprise, as we've had nothing but fantastic service here consistently! Although we'll likely give it another shot, we'll be sure to keep an eye out to make sure we are served by someone who wants to serve!"

  • "The dining month menu with the wine pairing was a great deal! Food was well prepared, nicely presented, with a wide range of taste flavors highlighting seafood, meat, and vegetables. Wines paired nicely. Was nicely full, but not overly stuffed - this is a very good thing that more restaurants could learn from. Service was good, but not intrusive. Some glitches at the beginning were quickly corrected."

  • "My friend and I had tea at the Heathman last week. It is one of the best kept secrets in Portland, that you may have high-tea at the Heathman almost every day. As it is a special event, one must make a 24-hour reservation and contact the restaurant directly. We loved it and both my friend and I plan on returning. Tea at the Heathman is an original Portland event - a must-do for Portlanders and visitors alike!"

  • "We ate here before going to the theater. We'd been a couple of times before for bar snacks and drinks but never to dine. The service was excellent, the ambiance was great - really enjoyed sitting and talking but, and its a big but, the food was fairly ordinary. I was disappointed that it didn't live up to my expectations. There was nothing really wrong with the food but it was fairly bland and lacking any spark. I had the terrine followed by duck and my wife had the risotto. Nothing really grabbed us - it may be the dishes we chose but we had such high hopes. We'l probably try it once more since we enjoyed the place so fingers crossed!"

  • "My family goes out for once nice meal around Christmas time every year and since we were out of town this season, we postponed our dinner until late January and boy were we excited we did! We had no problems making a reservation at the Heathman and towards the end of the mal, had out section of the restaurant basically to ourselves. The food and wine were superb and our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was a great family dinner had by all."

  • "We celebrated my wife's birthday at The Heathman. Food was nicely and interestingly prepared, delicious on the palate, and perfectly proportioned for me - not too much, but not too little either. This restaurant is in the heart of downtown Portland, right next to the Performing Arts Center, so is convenient for pre- and post-concert dining. On an event night, it's very busy; on a week night when the theaters are dark, as when we were there, the restaurant is quieter and the pace more leisurely. Over the last quarter century, the Heathman Hotel and its restaurant have become downtown Portland institutions, and deserve their good reuptations."

  • "Not to sound too parsimonious, but $24 for a salmon salad at lunch? The scallop salad...with two scallops was a screaming bargain at $17. Add on a starter each and glass of wine and we were at $100 including tip. Next time my friend will NOT be picking the venue. Yes we recognized several people from the business community, yes the food tasted fine, but the cost was ridiculous. Also the tables on the banquets seem a little too close. I did not want the four people next to us to hear our discussion and likewise I could have cared less listening to the chit chat about the mess of a merger going on with a local bank in town."

  • "We had a 6:15 reservation in front of a 7:30 concert at the Schnitz but did not get seated until 6:55PM so were pressed for time. We both ordered the Crab Cake appetizer and I ordered the Organic Beet Salad. I rarely complain but I had to tell the waiter who asked how everything was that the Crab Cakes were salty to the point of not being edible. The Beet Salad had exactly to pieces of beets but it was delicious. Service was good especially the two hostesses who tried their best to get us seated although it was obvious the restaurant had overbooked. There are better choices in the neighborhood and with Philippe Boulot gone from the kitchen I think we'll lean more towards Higgins for pre-concert eating."

However, this week for lunch the kitchen was having an off day and the food was delivered to our table after a very lengthy wait. The server apologized for the delay at the end of our meal. One of my colleague's entrée was not up to par and he mentioned it to the server. When settling the bill, our surprise and respect for The Heathman's customer service, he was not charged for the entrée. I will dine at The Heathman Restaurant again and will still highly recommend to others!"

The setting was quiet and our party of four could visit, have cocktails and dinner in a very cozy environment. The service was attentive. The hamburgers were wonderful.   • "I can't say enough good things about this restaurant and the above and beyond experience that was given to my son and his wife right before the birth of their first child. The two were treated to an extra special night to celebrate the soon to be new mother. They raved and raved about the food and the various taste delights they were given the pleasure of tasting. My son was absolutely delighted with his choice of the ribeye steak stating it's the best he's ever tasted and cooked to perfection. I was so pleased with their experience I chose to treat my Valentine to the experience after attending the absolutely wonderful Portland Symphony show which is **right next door** we were also THRILLED with our experience. Thank You."

  • "We traveled from one end of the State to Portland to have a special dinner but we were seated at a less than desirable location. The traffic from the kitchen was intense, there was a lot of movement. My companion's meal, lamb shank was dry and I had a difficult time getting the lobster off the shell. The person waiting on us was aloof until she brought the check, then she smiled and wished us, blah, blah. My companion had finished the first course and I had not, his plate was being removed as I ate; I said NO! Water was plentiful, a good thing. This was our first time eating at the Heathman and the experience which should have been fabulous, was not."

  • "Went prior to a concert at the Shnitz...noticed the table next to us had to ask the server to "check on those drinks". After a waiting what seemed like 30 mins, I had to do the same...the drinks arrived 10 mins later - "the bar was backed up". Other than that, good wine suggestion and wonderful food. Valet parking is quite nice after the show."

  • "Valentine's weekend, special fixed price menu, great selection and very well prepared. Only off note was next table trying to decide to stay and pay, or abandon their reservation for a cheaper meal. Both Heathman and Open Table should explore a way to make this info available to reserving parties. Kudos to Heatman for presenting their menu (and pricing) on-line for both Friday and Saturday, but for the next table they came unaware. And we enjoyed the Tornados Rossini and the Lobster."

  • "We, like several others sitting near us, were disappointed that on Feb 15th there was a fixed leftover Valentines Day menu. Narrow and unappealing selection. We had symphony tickets and made dinner reservation well ahead so had no idea the menu would be weird. The service was distracted, probably because servers were handling numerous questions and complaints about the menu. All around disappointing meal. Next time we have symphony tickets we will dine elsewhere."
