A word from The Heathman Restaurant
The Heathman Restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Portland and in the midst of the city’s theatre district.

Executive Chef Michael Stanton uses the very best in seafood, steaks, game, and more: from line caught salmon to organically raised lamb….from heirloom tomatoes to the best berries and fruit available in the Willamette Valley. The Heathman Restaurant takes advantage of local bay shrimp and Oregon razor clams when they are at the peak of season, they use mushrooms unearthed and brought to the kitchen early each morning. The menu aspires to be a constant expression of the vast diversity of ingredients that Oregon has to offer.

The extensive and award winning wine list showcases the best of the Willamette Valley, Southern Oregon, Washington and the rest of the Pacific North West, as well as some of the best wines of Burgundy, Bordeaux, and all the classic New and Old World wine regions.

Diner Reviews
  • "The absolutely best place for breakfast is The Heathman Hotel. Excellent for and the best service in Portland. Thank You"

  • "I'm always overwhelmed by how wonderful the restaurant staff really is. From the first moment you enter the restaurant, to them anticipating every want. It doesn't get better than this. A special thanks to Christian, Stephen and Lauren. I'm in your debt. Thank You"

  • "We always enjoy the Heathman for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a drink and a snack. Food and service are always the best. You can count on them for this."

  • "Accommodating and attentive waitstaff transform meals here from good to great! Eggs benedict with lemony hollandaise was split to half scrambled/half poached so 2 could share. Fruit plate was changed to all berries at our request. Picky teen-agers raved over crispy strawberry Belgian waffles and real maple syrup. Blueberry pancakes were filled AND covered with fresh blueberries. Our coffee cups, hot chocolate cups and water glasses were never left more than half empty. Never felt rushed despite our lingering visit."

  • "Very accomidating to our dietary (vegan/vegetarian) restrictions. Foot was very good. Service was exceptional. Hidden gem for vegans with vegan tasting menu."

  • "This is a wonderful place to meet for business. The dining room is a throwback to those elegant hotels of the past, service is attentive without being ostentacious. While it is a little noisy, not enough to be distracting. A place to be seen. Great staff!"

  • "starting with a tasteless Bloody Mary, accessorized by a lone string bean, followed by a spongy omelette filled with flavorless spinach and mushroom, requiring salt but the salt shaker on the table was empty, coffee refills which needed to be asked for, as well as the cream, and jarred jams in a city famous for its farmers market just blocks from its restaurant. management should visit tasty 'n sons, woodsmen tavern, Olympic provisions to experience a real pdx brunch. after all, it is introducing visitors to our foodie culture and it should try to be at least on a par with what the city offers."

  • "From the moment we arrived for my wife 's birthday dinner we were treated as royalty. We were seated at a great window seat, and Pennie's name was printed on the menu. Julie, the Maître 'D, visited our table several times during our meal. Our server, Collin, took time to explain various entrees and specials. His service was genuine, precise and professional. Because of the special occasion, the Chef sent us two small plates with wonderful examples of his culinary skills. Pennie praised her perfectly-prepared Halibut and I was very impressed with my Pork Shanks -- the sauce was thick and complex. Our desserts were beautifully presented and were decadent. All in all, The Heathman Restaurant provided us our most memorable dining experience."

  • " We were disappointed that the food coming from the kitchen was less than good. We went for early seating and ordered the Chef's special which was rib eye, ordered medium rare. The steak was served medium as well as the temperature of the steak was served medium, barely warm, with no flavor. The roasted potatoes were served hard and barely warm. Because we did not have more time to spend there we chose to not have the desert. Unfortunately the experience was not what we had hoped for. They did lower the check to take our comments into account which was appreciated. We were also offered to have the food taken back and warmed up or replaced but because of our time constraints we declined their offer."

  • "We were a group of five with a reservation. We were seated promptly and our waitress was attentive. The drinks, salads and soups arrived in a timely manner but it was a long wait for the main course. We all ordered the halibut entree and all agreed it was probably the best we'd ever eaten. We may have ordered dessert but although we had allowed 1 1/2 hrs for dinner we had to ask for our check early and rush to the show."

  • "I came to the Heathman Restaurant to meet a friend of mine for breakfast. We had started a little later than our original reservation time, but the hostess didn't mind waiting. We hadn't seen each other in years, so we definitely talked each others' ears off. The staff was very accommodating for us, refilling our coffee cups, and making sure that we were still doing well. I have come to the Heathman Restaurant before and have always been impressed with their menu. Yes, it is expensive as far as breakfast food goes, but the taste and presentation of everything makes it 100% worth it."

  • "A classic venue for a classic - and classically delicious - weekend brunch in downtown Portland. Wonderful dining room, terrific service, great food."

  • "We ordered the halibut and salmon, and both were perfectly cooked. The delicious accompanying sides were locally farm fresh and creatively prepared. The servers were friendly and attentive. We came back the next day for Sunday brunch, and were delighted again!"

  • "It doesn't get any better than this. Excellent food, prices and service. You won't be disappointed. Randy the manager oversees this wonderful restaurant like a beautiful ballet. If you're there for breakfast you must try their black currant scones. Spectacular"

  • "The Heathman staff Really made sure we were treated like royalty for our 20th Anniversary! A private feeling window seat, & excellent service, followed by true chef quality meals. A special dessert was presented in honor of our special occasion! As we left to go to our Steely Dan concert next door, Katherine, the nice lady who originally welcomed us & guided us to our table, upon seeing Mark taking a pix of me, came outside calling for " oh Anniversary couple", volunteered to take a photo of the 2 of us in front of the lit up markee. How nice!!!"

  • "This was our second visit to The Heathman. We were pleased with most of our food selections. The onion soup was ordered. The soup itself was tasty, but there was entirely too much stringy cheese atop the soup, and a salad was substituted. Appetizers were over-priced. Drinks were also over-priced. Desserts were reasonably priced. Our watier was very attentive without being overly so. He had a sixth sense on what our next request may be."

  • "An outstanding experience. Best wine list we've seen in PDX and food was absolutely excellent. The tuna tartare offered as a chef's treat at the very beginning was worthy of a main course. We tend toward fish and appreciate when the fish are not overcooked. All the fish we had were cooked to perfection. A review of the Heathman? Couldn't do it justice."

  • "I have been a longtime lover of the The Heathman Restaurant as well as their bar. I had lunch their the other day and it has slipped. I am guessing it is because of the purchase of it by Landry's who is now operating it. With the purchase of McCormick & Schmick's, Landry's took over not only The Heathman but Jake's as well. Jake's Grill has never been the same. Now, sadly, The Heathman is in decline. I was also in the bar over last weekend, a bar which used to be stellar in my view, holding its own in the Portland cocktail scene. Our waitress had never heard of a Negroni. I ordered the Bijou which used to be on their menu and that wasn't known either. As a classic martini I was surprised to have it served in a rocks glass. Very sad."

  • "Parking is difficult in this downtown area. The restaurant used to validate parking for lunch. To my surprise, they no longer do this. It cost me $14 for the valet parking."

  • "I have been eating at the Heathman gratefully for the fifteen years I have lived in Portland. The food is at least as good as the restaurants now thought of as Portland's best, and I prefer the service and the ambience."

  • "Brunch can often be ho-hum - eggs done a few different ways, a few salads and maybe one special. At the Heathmanneverything was special. Presentation was exquisite and the preparation was delicious with each dish having a unique twist. Great service - server also had a terrific sense of humor."

  • "Three out of four were happy in our party with the meal. Mine was just ok. What I would have liked is more healthy options for brunch or a vegie quiche or veggie omelette. I am not a meat eater and wasn't interested in the crab omelette. My vegan daughter got a tofu scramble ( not on the brunch menu that day) and that is probably what I should've ordered. I got the Belgian waffle, and it was ok."

  • "We went to the Heathman before the PGMC concert. While I have been there for lunch and brunch (both good) this was my first dinner outing. The food was slow and we had to flag down the server multiple times. Ultimately, we had to cancel some of our food as we were not going to be able to finish in time to get the show. To spend $150 for essentially a gobbled down dinner was not right."

  • "Superb service, great care that we had a positive experience, informed server, prompt service, and a wide variety of menu items, superior presentation of our orders. BUT the noise level was bothersome....quite a bit, in fact--a surprise to us."

  • "Although the menu at the Heathman is somewhat limited, it is, nevertheless, always creative, beautifully presented and, above all, very pleasing to the palette. The staff is always pleasant and attentive. "

  • "This place is fantastic! Every time I visit, the food options are excellent and anything you choose is always very good. The service is quick and all service employees are respectful; the food is also served quickly. The restaurant does not get very loud, so its perfect to meet and talk. This is my go to for brunch!"

  • "It was not clear to us when we made the reservation for lunch that the kitchen shut down at 11am, so it was surprising for half our group that they would have to wait. They did accomodate us and let us order early, but I think they need to make this clear online and when making reservations. In addition our server was very short about it and not accomodating. "

  • "We had a large group and the restaurant was very accommodating in putting a table together and providing separate checks. Amazingly we could hear each other. The food was very good with nice flavors. I ordered an expensive appetizer made with copper river salmon belly -- it didn't meet my expectations -- a little tough. The asparagus salad was small and delicious. "

  • "I love going to the Heathman for dinner. The staff is so attentive and pleasant and the food is superb, lots of great choices. The fish is always cooked just the way I like it; not raw, not baked to a frazzle, just right. Desserts often have seasonal fruit; I had a rhubarb galette the other day that was terrific. Also the hotel is a great place to wait for your dinner companions; it has a great reading area with books and comfortable chairs as well as a lovely happy hour lounge with a fireplace and deep armchairs. Also you can get a great happy hour meal, good prices, lots of foodie choices, if you don't want to eat in the dining room. It's a must choice if you are going to the symphony; it's right next door!"

  • "All started well with appetizers and salad but then came huge gap (40 mins) before our mains arrived, and this only after we inquired. We were heading for a show with plenty of time to spare but the kitchen's ineptness caused not only bland/overcooked food but rushed the ending. We were truly hoping to like the experience but it was not to be. "
