A word from The Heathman Restaurant
The Heathman Restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Portland and in the midst of the city’s theatre district.

Executive Chef Michael Stanton uses the very best in seafood, steaks, game, and more: from line caught salmon to organically raised lamb….from heirloom tomatoes to the best berries and fruit available in the Willamette Valley. The Heathman Restaurant takes advantage of local bay shrimp and Oregon razor clams when they are at the peak of season, they use mushrooms unearthed and brought to the kitchen early each morning. The menu aspires to be a constant expression of the vast diversity of ingredients that Oregon has to offer.

The extensive and award winning wine list showcases the best of the Willamette Valley, Southern Oregon, Washington and the rest of the Pacific North West, as well as some of the best wines of Burgundy, Bordeaux, and all the classic New and Old World wine regions.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was absolutely wonderful and the service was impeccable. This is a great place to go for a special occasion."

  • "It doesn't get any better than this. Excellent food, prices and service. You won't be disappointed. Randy the manager oversees this wonderful restaurant like a beautiful ballet. If you're there for breakfast you must try their black currant scones. Spectacular"

  • "The Heathman staff Really made sure we were treated like royalty for our 20th Anniversary! A private feeling window seat, & excellent service, followed by true chef quality meals. A special dessert was presented in honor of our special occasion! As we left to go to our Steely Dan concert next door, Katherine, the nice lady who originally welcomed us & guided us to our table, upon seeing Mark taking a pix of me, came outside calling for " oh Anniversary couple", volunteered to take a photo of the 2 of us in front of the lit up markee. How nice!!!"

  • "This was our second visit to The Heathman. We were pleased with most of our food selections. The onion soup was ordered. The soup itself was tasty, but there was entirely too much stringy cheese atop the soup, and a salad was substituted. Appetizers were over-priced. Drinks were also over-priced. Desserts were reasonably priced. Our watier was very attentive without being overly so. He had a sixth sense on what our next request may be."

  • "An outstanding experience. Best wine list we've seen in PDX and food was absolutely excellent. The tuna tartare offered as a chef's treat at the very beginning was worthy of a main course. We tend toward fish and appreciate when the fish are not overcooked. All the fish we had were cooked to perfection. A review of the Heathman? Couldn't do it justice."

  • "Although, our service was still top notch, we went specifically for the beignets. They no longer have them so it was a huge disappointment. We have done dinner in the past, but went for breakfast this time. Maybe dinner would be better."

  • "I used to LOVE Trellis and went there any time I was in the mood for a wonderful meal and dining experience. Fabulous farm to table food. But sadly I've gotten bored with the menu that is basically the same since they opened years ago. I've tried everything and tired of it all. It's off my list until the chef gets his creative juices flowing and changes the menu. If you've never been it's definitely worth it."

  • "I have been a longtime lover of the The Heathman Restaurant as well as their bar. I had lunch their the other day and it has slipped. I am guessing it is because of the purchase of it by Landry's who is now operating it. With the purchase of McCormick & Schmick's, Landry's took over not only The Heathman but Jake's as well. Jake's Grill has never been the same. Now, sadly, The Heathman is in decline. I was also in the bar over last weekend, a bar which used to be stellar in my view, holding its own in the Portland cocktail scene. Our waitress had never heard of a Negroni. I ordered the Bijou which used to be on their menu and that wasn't known either. As a classic martini I was surprised to have it served in a rocks glass. Very sad."

  • "I have been eating at the Heathman gratefully for the fifteen years I have lived in Portland. The food is at least as good as the restaurants now thought of as Portland's best, and I prefer the service and the ambience."

  • "We were celebrating my wife's promotion. Our server made the evening all the more special with a surprise dessert. Excellent service and food. Heathman staff really made the evening special. Thank you"

  • "Parking is difficult in this downtown area. The restaurant used to validate parking for lunch. To my surprise, they no longer do this. It cost me $14 for the valet parking."

  • "Brunch can often be ho-hum - eggs done a few different ways, a few salads and maybe one special. At the Heathmanneverything was special. Presentation was exquisite and the preparation was delicious with each dish having a unique twist. Great service - server also had a terrific sense of humor."

  • "Three out of four were happy in our party with the meal. Mine was just ok. What I would have liked is more healthy options for brunch or a vegie quiche or veggie omelette. I am not a meat eater and wasn't interested in the crab omelette. My vegan daughter got a tofu scramble ( not on the brunch menu that day) and that is probably what I should've ordered. I got the Belgian waffle, and it was ok."

  • "We went to the Heathman before the PGMC concert. While I have been there for lunch and brunch (both good) this was my first dinner outing. The food was slow and we had to flag down the server multiple times. Ultimately, we had to cancel some of our food as we were not going to be able to finish in time to get the show. To spend $150 for essentially a gobbled down dinner was not right."

  • "Superb service, great care that we had a positive experience, informed server, prompt service, and a wide variety of menu items, superior presentation of our orders. BUT the noise level was bothersome....quite a bit, in fact--a surprise to us."

  • "This place is fantastic! Every time I visit, the food options are excellent and anything you choose is always very good. The service is quick and all service employees are respectful; the food is also served quickly. The restaurant does not get very loud, so its perfect to meet and talk. This is my go to for brunch!"

  • "Although the menu at the Heathman is somewhat limited, it is, nevertheless, always creative, beautifully presented and, above all, very pleasing to the palette. The staff is always pleasant and attentive. "

  • "It was not clear to us when we made the reservation for lunch that the kitchen shut down at 11am, so it was surprising for half our group that they would have to wait. They did accomodate us and let us order early, but I think they need to make this clear online and when making reservations. In addition our server was very short about it and not accomodating. "

  • "We had a large group and the restaurant was very accommodating in putting a table together and providing separate checks. Amazingly we could hear each other. The food was very good with nice flavors. I ordered an expensive appetizer made with copper river salmon belly -- it didn't meet my expectations -- a little tough. The asparagus salad was small and delicious. "

  • "I love the vibe here. The food is always good. The ambiance is very nice. And the food was delicious."

  • "I love going to the Heathman for dinner. The staff is so attentive and pleasant and the food is superb, lots of great choices. The fish is always cooked just the way I like it; not raw, not baked to a frazzle, just right. Desserts often have seasonal fruit; I had a rhubarb galette the other day that was terrific. Also the hotel is a great place to wait for your dinner companions; it has a great reading area with books and comfortable chairs as well as a lovely happy hour lounge with a fireplace and deep armchairs. Also you can get a great happy hour meal, good prices, lots of foodie choices, if you don't want to eat in the dining room. It's a must choice if you are going to the symphony; it's right next door!"

  • "Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, this is a reliably excellent restaurant. Great for meeting others and before a concert next door."

  • "Halibut was so dry to be almost crisp. Mushroom risotto tasteless. "
    Dined on 5/15/2014
  • "The wait staff and server were impeccable and the food was very tasty. However, there was very little food on the plates, the atmosphere was uncomfortable and pretentious and the cost for value was way off."

  • "All started well with appetizers and salad but then came huge gap (40 mins) before our mains arrived, and this only after we inquired. We were heading for a show with plenty of time to spare but the kitchen's ineptness caused not only bland/overcooked food but rushed the ending. We were truly hoping to like the experience but it was not to be. "

  • "Whenever I want a night out on the town with my sweetie, the Heathman is my go to place. Great for a starter or a nightcap and if you just want to stay put, dinner is a treat. Rooms are well appointed and comfortable. It's a busy breakfast scene in the AM but service is never lacking. Thanks for another great date night!"

  • "Stopped by for dinner before attending the symphony, and we were very impressed with the quality of the dishes we ordered. The salmon was perfectly cooked, not over-done or dried out. My husbands scallops were were tender and tasty. Just regret that we had not planned enough time for desert, and we saw many tempting items."

  • "Very nice setting, very good entree selection and great service!"

  • "Outstanding food, great service and very quiet by Portland standards. We were very pleasantly surprised by our evening at the Heathman, even though we expected it to be great. They took extra care of an elderly guest to make her feel special, while serving the eclectic tastes of the rest of the foodies. Great job. Really nice place, and the music in the bar was something we loved but unfortunately had to leave behind. A real gem."

  • "We had a fine meal, good service and a fine wine. We had a great pre-concert meal."

  • "The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Our waiter had some great recommendations."
    Dined on 4/25/2014
  • "The service was slow and the crab in my mango crab salad was old and inedible. After we were seated, it took 20 minutes for our waiter to take our order; 40 minutes to receive our meal."
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "The Heathman has all the qualities of a great restaurant: superior food, service and ambiance. Following a brunch, breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails or tea -- my guests and I always feel fantastic after a dining experience at the Heathman."
    Dined on 4/22/2014
  • "Although it's a bit expensive this is not your typical hotel restaurant. The food is well presented, the service is knowledgeable and the food is excellent. I can definitely recommend it. Although we didn't partake, the happy hour here is well regarded as must do as well."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Unfortunately on the day of my lunch time visit, the kitchen service was very slow and my scallop salad arrived with cold scallops (2 of them). My lunch date had a yummy shrimp sandwich. "
    Dined on 4/16/2014
  • "My fish entrée was the worst meal I've eaten in years. Bad flavor and horrible texture doesn't begin to describe it. I wouldn't feed to a cat. If I hadn't had show tickets and limited time I would have never kept it. As it was, I filled up on bread and French fries from my wife's steak, which by the way was very good."
    Dined on 4/15/2014
  • "We really like to go to the Heathman for brunch. We go on a regular basis. We are never disappointed. As they say, it's Portland's living room."
