Diner Reviews
  • "We choose an early dining time so we could be back for the Sunset. The food was great and our service was wonderful. This restaurant had come s a recommendations from a friend and we were not disappointed. We will dine again at Heartline Cafe."

  • "If you like trout, their pecan crusted fresh trout is very good . Husband said his Filet mignon was excellent . Great guitar player/singer of the oldies . Service was excellent. Decor could use a bit of sprucing up as it is quite dated. Prices were moderate. But then all of the eateries in the Sedona area are priced for the tourists: pricey!"

  • "I was expecting much better food here from the reviews and private comments. Every dish was mediocre with no interesting flavors. Cesar salad was very strange with small sticks of romaine lettuce served in a taco bowl. Vegetable accompaniment to sliced steak was simply boiled parsnips, carrots and something unidentifiable. Brightest spot was good mashed potatoes, but that tells you what the rest was like."

  • "We came here to celebrate my son's 18th birthday while on vacation. We had been having awful meals while in the Grand Canyon so coming to Sedona made us wishful for good food. The Heartline Cafe did not disappoint."

  • "This restaurant was a big disappointment. First, it's in Sedona, surrounded by terrific scenery, but has no windows for a view. Second, the waiter was abrupt and generally not attentive. He warned us up front that the kitchen was backed up and it would take a while for our orders, but seemed to act as if that absolved him of any need to check on or update us. Tables are fairly close together, and my wife had a loud old man practically talking in her ear. Finally, food was only fair. Wife's steak was okay but mine was overcooked. Since we had already waited 40 minutes for our order, and the waiter was borderline surly and I didn't feel like dealing with him, I didn't send it back."

  • "The waitstaff couldn't have been nicer, when we arrived the hostess sat us at a table for two that wasn't ideal as it was near the entrance and in the main traffic spot so we requested another table....no problem as our server asked us which one we would like and cheerfully moved us to that table without any question. The food was very good, I had the daily fish special, walleye with an achiote sauce that was very good. My wife had the bacon wrapped filet and said it was very good too. If you go there, take cash as they give you a 10% discount if you pay that way."

  • "We have yet to not have good food and great service at this restaurant. It's difficult to go wrong eating here."

  • "We had Nicoise Salad (v. good), House Salad (only okay), and Chicken with Pistachio Crust (v. good). The place is a little bit drab and could be spruced up a bit. There are ceiling fans but it was sort of hot in the place--a little AC would have been nice. Still, we would recommend the place with moderate enthusiasm. Waitress was very nice and attentive."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our Birthday dinner there and was quite pleased with our server and the food was wonderful!"

  • "On vacation. I had the pecan-crusted trout, locally caught - outstanding. My husband had a very nice pasta dish. We enjoyed the meal so much that we returned two nights later. Then my husband had the trout (though they were out of the red rice and substituted another rice which resulted in more of an "A-" grade from him). I had the butternut squash soup which was superb. I also had a half-order of the pasta special. The half-order is listed among the appetizers and we had not noticed it the first night. The half-order was plenty for me with 4 large shrimp and many veggies for only $12. To end our meal, we shared the dessert sampler -- excellent. Our table neighbors had the pear dessert which they loved. Very enjoyable evening."

  • "The Heartline has been around for many years. There are not any fancy views but the location on Highway 89A is easy to get to and there is good parking. The food is upscale and good. Hearline is a favorite of locals. The pasta appetizer is really good, as are the dinner specials. On warm evenings dinning on the patio is really lovely."

  • "We ordered two salads for lunch, they were okay, but I feel the salads I make at home are fresher and tastier."

  • "This was only one of many visits to Heartline. As always, we enjoyed delicious , cleverly prepared menu items. Great wine list, excellent service from William, and a great dining experience !"

  • "I'll preface this by saying that we had a late (8pm) reservation, so it's possible that my experience was an anomaly, & driven by a staff ready to go home. That said, I couldn't help but be disappointed in the overall experience at Heartline Cafe. The ambiance is right out of the 80's, and the crowd was...not young. The food was bland, not well prepared, and incredibly overpriced. One of the people at my table had the vegetarian option, which consisted of mushrooms, some veggies, and tofu in a basic teriyaki sauce. This dish ran close to, if not over $20. Insult to injury had the staff breaking down the dining room prior to us being done with our dining experience. I will not be returning to the Heartline Cafe anytime soon."

  • "Quiet, so you can talk, good service, friendly, outdoor or indoor, small, good food, Full bar. Probably not so good with more than 4 people, or lots of kids. Good for brunch, lunch, dinner."

  • "The Heartline Cafe had quite good food and a very pleasant atmosphere for conversation, including (when we were there on a Saturday night) a live folk singer. The trout and lamb were particularly good, but we all enjoyed our meals and thought the prices were reasonable. The waiters were friendly and helpful but the meal was slow for some reason: it took more than two hours from the time we arrived till we left. This might not have normally been a problem, but because the main room was full, we sat on the patio, and the March weather was a bit chilly even though we were near a heat lamp."

  • "Getting away from a "tourist trap" in Sedona can be a challenge. That’s why we were glad to find this place. Really good food and excellent service at good prices."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "We enjoyed our meals, the dishes were excellent, prepared well and looked very appealing. Our server was excellent, probably brand new but attentive and charming. We will definitely eat here again when we return to Sedona."

  • "A longtime favorite, the Heartline Cafe offers some of the best food in the region. And unlike many other so-called fine dining establishments in the area, their prices are reasonable and fair. Other upscale restaurants in the area - and I've eaten in most of them - may offer sleeker ambiance, slicker service, or a stellar mountain or creek view - along with vastly higher prices - few offer the same kind of fine dining experience in a casual, friendly setting that is obviously a favorite of the locals. The food is honest, inventive, and prepared with care. If you only dine in only one restaurant in Sedona, you should consider The Heartline Cafe."

  • "Driving off the main thoroughfare through Sedona, we found Heartline Cafe on Hwy 89 heading to Cottonwood. It is an old stand alone building painted bright blue with a stand up catfish sculpture waiting at the entrance. We opted to sit outdoors in their atrium and from there......everything was perfect. We ordered from the standard lunch menu of sandwiches and salads. The pulled pork on brioche was exceptional and the 3 potato salad was uniquely wonderful. An excellent choice for lunch and I particularly loved that we could have easily opted for breakfast choices served at the lunch hour."

  • "Dined here over 13 years ago when last in Sedona and this place never disappoints. The food is outstanding, unique, presentation and service all stellar. The soups are to die for and the white chocolate mousse for dessert is AMAZING! 5 star restaurants can't compare with the dishes coming out of this kitchen. I will eat here everytime I am in Sedona (hopefully it won't be 13 years in between visits), but the fact that I remembered it from 13 years ago & had to return given all the other options to dine in Sedona means it's THAT GOOD!"

  • "The table service bread was astonishingly bad. Think school cafeteria. Tasteless, dry, overbaked. Long list of wines, only available by the bottle. Small selection of maybe 5 wines available by the glass. Very loud environment, non-private seating. Pizza crust had no Italian roots, grandmas Bisquick texture."

  • "We had the filets, which were cooked to perfection. The chocolate mouses torte was served with fresh berries and a raspberry and dark chocolate sauce and was supremely delectable"

  • "We were in Sedona for an overnight and from reading reviews, we decided to try the Heartline Cafe. It was a chilly night and the restaurant was warm and inviting. I did feel that we sat a little longer than we should have w/o the attention of a waitperson. But when we did get their attention, everything flowed smoothly and the food was terrific."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed our dinner very much. Mine was the BBQ of the day, pulled pork with chipotle sauce. Flavorful with tasty sides of scalloped potatoes and grilled asparagus. And his was pecan crusted trout. The trout was cooked to perfection. However, flourless chocolate cake was not as dense or chocolately as I'm used to. And the caramel sauce was rather runny. But the meal as a whole was delicious. From beginning to end the host, water, and other staff were friendly and helpful --- not over the top. Just right. Looking forward to returning to the HC on our next trip to Sedona."

  • "Walleye with a chili sauce was outstanding. As usual the service was excellent. Good food, good service and at a reasonable price. What more can you ask?"

  • "My wife and I have eaten at The Heartline Cafe three or four times during the past three years. We like it for the variety of it's wine list, it's comfortable and romantic atmosphere, and the food of course. Our most recent visit was similar to our past ones. Our teenage boys ordered filet mignon, my wife had the pistachio-crusted chicken breast, and I had the stuffed quail. The first three dinners were as good as usual, but I can't recommend the stuffed quail. While the flavors were OK, it was very difficult to eat -- too many small bones to deal with. The service, while friendly, accurate, and efficient, was quite slow once we finished our meals. Teenage boys are not patient, but we will be back. Overall we enjoyed our evening there."

  • "My husband and I had a very kind and helpful waiter. We shared a rack of lamb which was delicious. It was my birthday And our waiter gave us a cream and berry dessert to share which was on the house We visited this restaurant 14years ago and were happy to find it was still there!"

  • "This place was so good we went back again. Our waitress was Laura. She did a great job. Super friendly. Food was excellent! I had the pecan crusted trout and my husband had the rack of lamb the first time. Both melted in your mouth. The bartender even gave us a sample of his special drink the French Poodle. Loved it so I got one. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Sadona."

  • "Went for New Year's Eve; food very good, but a bit pricey; service ok (perhaps, busy due to the holiday); sat in table close to kitchen, not ideal. Liked the ambience; very quaint. Would go back to try breakfast or lunhc, perhaps, probably not for dinner due to prices."

  • "We went New Year's Eve. We have been there a number of times and felt this was a safe choice for a busy night. The host could not find our reservation. Then he seemed to forget about us after he told us we would be seated right away. After this rocky start, the food was very good but not quite up the the restaurant's usual standards. The service was excellent after we were finally seated."

  • "We booked a dinner reservation that afternoon on a Saturday night, after considering other restaurants that we liked, we decided on something new. What a great choice! Heartline Cafe was more than we expected. The menu was a little limited but diverse. The food was great, the trout was cooked to perfection, service was timely and the setting was quaint. They had a fine wine selection but the wine glasses were not the right choice, more like wine tumblers. Otherwise a perfect night out."

  • "I used to go to Sedona once or twice a year for several years, and always included a dinner at the Heartline on every trip. However, it had been several years since friends and I went there last week. From what used to be a cozy, warm interior with subdued lighting, the restaurant now has the look of a brightly lit diner. But to be fair, the steak, trout and duck dinners the three of us ordered were all very tasty."

  • "What a delight to see an established, local, mom and pop eatery that has stayed true to its roots, consistent with quality and friendly and professional service. It was a great place to have lunch outdoors and take in the Sedona vibe. My mom had the chicken chipotle wrap and I had the grilled fish tacos. Both were well condimentized, full of flavor and made with love. I'll definitely go back."

  • "We dined here for christmas dinner. I read all the reviews before booking this dinner and the restaurant had great reviews. Our experience was not entirely negative just a nothing. What I mean by that is the atmosphere was ok, not bad but not exceptional. The food was ok. Our server seemed to be completely off his game. Not sure if he was a fill in or what. He was very nice but did not seem to be able to keep himself organized. We are not demanding people. Usually if something is wrong with a restaurant we don't complain to staff or wait people just don't go back. I would not recommend this restaurant to a friend and will not return myself."
