Oddly there was subtle background music from Led Zepplin, Deep Purple, and the best of classic rock '69 - '79 contributing to the ambiance. I dig a good Zepplin track and it was pretty quiet so it kind of worked for me. We had one desert bad enough to send back and a second that was merely meh. Everything on the menu is always fantastic. The cooking is never just "Just Good", but always has some surprising spin on a traditional plate with huge flavor!.. I have lived in New York for close to 50 years and tried every five star restaurant there is.. And the Harrison is still my first choice for a family celebration or an important client meeting. It almost felt like we were being rushed. Our waiter was extremely friendly, as was all the staff. My husband had the chicken, which was good, but plain. I had the arctic char, which would have been good if it had been cooked a little more (quite mushy) and if it was hot. It was stone cold. We shared the brownie for dessert, it was just OK. Maybe I was expecting a soft, chewy brownie, but it was more like a flat, crunchy cookie. All in all, I would try this restaurant again, it has a lovely ambience and great service. That said, the food was uneven. The service was ok, but, when I go to a "white tablecloth" place with entrees around $30, I expect a little more. For example, we clearly told the waiter that we were going to share a salad to start - I think a place like this should split the order onto two plates rather than just sit the plate in the middle of the table and let us deal with it. I was also surprised that I had to flag down a server (not even ours) to get a second drink - my glass had been sitting empty for a while with no response. It is perfect for a dinner out for a couple or for a small group. The speciality cocktails are fun - go for the "Senator's Wife". The food was delicious; the chicken was tender & moist, the risotto special was perfectly cooked & the calves liver was the best the liver lover ever had. I highly recommend the brownie sundae as a finish to a delicious meal. The brownie was not too thick with homemade ice cream, caramel sauce and nuts. In addition to the flawless food was the amazing service. Our waiter was attentive, but not hovering. He had great recommendations and wanted us to enjoy our evening. The food was extremely creative, well portioned and hot when it was presented. The wait staff is superb; attentive, helpful & accommodating, we never felt hurried. Wonderful wine list with a nice range of price, style, and country of origin.
