  • Sea Bass disappointment... but I'll be back!!!

Ordered Sea Bass and it might as well have been overcooked Cod. The fish was thin and tough - not flaky as expected. Greasy skin was left on the fish and I got a mouthfull of bones. It's never a GREAT dining experience when you have to use your napkin to empty the contents of your mouth. On my wifes plate was their finest steak. It was ordered medium rare but was delivered slightly overcooked - still tasty but not they way she ordered it. For appetizers, the suasage soup was wonderful and the salad was fresh and light. Sides were creative and delicious and the Gooey Chocolate Cake was to die for. Portions were more than expected. So the food review was mixed but here's where it turns. I don't think there's a better dining ambience in DC than the Hamilton. I've dined around the globe and the Hamilton ranks among my top 5 for interior design. There's no question, however, that the wait staff is the star of this show - friendly, polite, attentive, upbeat and knowledgable. With the exception of the sea bass recommendation we could not have asked for better service or a better staff. These guys at the Hamilton are in my top 3!!! I don't make it to DC more than once every couple of years but when I visit next I will be making reservations at the Hamilton. The ambience and staff are enough to bring me back. We all have our bad days and I'm sure the chefs are normally on their game. The Redskins took a beating earlier that afternoon and it seemed everyone in DC was a little off!!!

Washington D.C. restaurants are mostly reasonably good, even those that may be lass than great - passable. This one is so much more than passable. My spouse and I had brunch on Sunday at the Hamilton and we were completely pleased. The food was excellent, the menu was expansive and the service and ambiance were impeccable. This one and the Old Ebbits Grill are located nearby and are both part of Clyde's Restaurant Group - they do good work at Clyde's - I think there are a few more Clyde's Group places in the District. Do some research and enjoy. I was pleasantly surprised when I got the bill - the prices are quite reasonable to say the least! Woot!

I've been to Hamilton several times in the past and always enjoyed my experience. On this night we took first time diners and close friends before hitting the show downstairs. We arrived with reservations well over an hour before the show was to start but we didn't make it to the show in time, despite ordering quickly upon arrival. Also, when we asked about any specials or recommendations, the server did nothing but recite back the entire menu to us, to the point where we finally just politely cut her off. We received our appetizers and then waited....and waited....and waited for our food. We finished our first round of drinks and were never asked if we wanted another round. After finally flagging down other servers and then finally a manager, they tracked down our food, offering "to go" boxes to take downstairs with us. We opted to stay upstairs and eat the fresh food, which was a good choice because we had no chance of seating for the show despite buying tickets with reserved seating. The show was a blast anyway. I'll probably return to the hamilton again, but it was a disappointment after hyping up the place to our friends.....

A friend and I met there for our quarterly get together and we had the BEST time. The food was wonderful - the combo of brunch and lunch was so good. We both ordered starters - beignets and the danish (with the nuts?) so GOOD! What we ordered for our entrees was just as great. We also had a great booth to ourselves which gave us time to catch up and a great server. The manager even stopped by and gave us his card and welcomed us since that was our first time in the restaurant. Great experience!

We had a wonderful experience dining with friends at the Hamilton. The ambience is excellent and the service if friendly and professional. When I found one of the meat courses to be a little too rare to my liking ( I had neglected to mention that I'd like it well done while ordering), the waitress was extremely courteous and I got a brand new portion done exactly to my taste within minutes - the maitre'd even waited for me to cut into the meat to make sure it was done right. Amazing service! The desserts were awesome too - we had the chocolate gooey cake and the banana pudding trifle - both excellent! I can't wait for the next opportunity to enjoy a great meal at the Hamilton!

I had the organic chicken and my bro had the brisket sandwich. Both excellent ... they took all the bones out of the half chicken and flattened and sauteed it I believe ... very tender and nice. The martini was excellent. Only problem was the appetizer of calamari ... rubbery ... would have been much much better from the fryer.

This was my first time at the Hamilton at the suggestion of a friend who we were celebrating a birthday lunch. Not only was the food incredible, but there was great attention to detail, wonderful service and the prices were reasonable. Truly a very pleasant dining experience. The FIRST ever open table restaurant that actually read the comments section in the reservation and came to our table to wish my friend a happy birthday and to welcome me as a first time diner. Kudos! I will definately dine here again.

My boyfriend and I went to the Hamilton for date night and were fairly pleased with our experience. The Hamilton is well known for their drinks and they did not disappoint Friday night. We were not adventurous with our food orders, preferring to stick with burgers and fries. We both enjoyed them tremendously, as well as the sushi that was ordered as an appetizer. The only drawback was our server, Mike, who seemed to disappear for long stretches at a time. To the extent that walking out seemed like a viable option. Otherwise, The Hamilton doesn't disappoint, and I will definitely return.

Love the booth along the windows in the center of the restaurant. They add warmth and a coziness to a wonderful atmosphere. Fun beverage menu and loved the seasonal drinks. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. The appetizers were just "OK" we tried the calamari and the firecracker shrimp. The sushi was fantastic but then our steaks were just "OK". Our mid-rare steak arrived a bit dry and needed to be seasoned. Overall the atmosphere, drinks and sushi got us off to such a great start but we had to rate the food overall at a 3 because of the quality of the apps and main courses. We did end the night with a pot of the hamilton blend which was quite good. It is always an enjoyable night at the Hamilton with a "hit & miss" menu.

We tried the Hamilton for the first time . We both ordered an appetizer and my partner received his 6 minutes before me. When I asked the waitress why, she told me " because it was ready first" she did volunteer to go look for it and t was brought out a couple minutes later. Just as I started eating the appetizer, they brought out the entree which I made them take back. Needless to say my pasta was all pasty when I was ready for it.

Everyone is friendly and the service is good. Although, this particular day it was a little slow but only because the server had many many tables. If you go for brunch, the breakfast sammies and the pecan roll brunchie were both delicious!

The Hamilton is a very attractive, large restaurant with many good spots for intimate business meetings (booths in the front) or large parties. The food is generally good but, be warned, the Japanese selections are a poor imitation of the real thing. I had sashimi on my last visit and, rather than thin slice cuts of fatty tuna and other fish, I received very robust chunks of fish. Maybe it was sashimi Texas-style or a la Americaine. It was not what you would get in most decent Japanese restaurants in the US and you would never cuts like these in even the worst restaurants in Japan. The other dishes are quite good just beware of Japanese selections.

Convenience, location and food -- it doesn't get better than this. Located in the former Borders bookstore ( and the historic site of garfinkels department store, a Historic DC shopping destination for years), the Hamilton has enlivened a prominent corner - 2 blocks from the WH. It provides a central, reasonably priced, pleasant place for lunch. The fish and chips was lightly Battered and crunchy - real cod. The fries complimented the fish and went well with all the condiments provided and available - catsup, tartar sauce and malt vinegar. Easy to get decent seating. A great place to meet for lunch. The noise level picks up as it gets more crowded, but it's manageable. Wait staff are pleasant, efficient and quick. I recommend it!

I have been to the Hamilton before and loved it!! my first trip was amazing...the food and service were perfect. This trip while the food was still great, service was lacking. My waitress messed up two of our orders and while I did get a corrected version, it still wasn't right. The waitress was preoccupied with another table, and didn't check on us very often. The food however, is wonderful and the menu changes depending on seasonal items available, which I LOVE. I'm glad they change items depending on season, makes it ore enjoyable and refreshing. will go back again.
