It takes a while to place your order and eventually be served here, but the food is great. Reasonably priced, too. Building is very nice, with high ceilings, but it is cacophonous in there. Need to speak loudly to hear the person across from you. Crowd is dressed fashionably. They have music venues upstairs and downstairs.

We walked into a supercharged bar scene to claim our OpenTable reservation and was disappointed to find the seaters at the host station ready to tell us there was a one hour wait before we could even mention we had an OpenTable reservation. They could have cared less and tried to seat us in a noisy banquette when I had, in my reservation, requested a booth. One was available but they told us it had been requested although we had too and the other party was not there to claim it. Things improved with a booth, after a 15-minute wait, and a great meal. The kitchen never disappoints. The server also was pleasant, available and brought the food out warm and with good timing. I would improve the host station and nothing else.

My firm uses the Hamilton as though it were our corporate cafeteria. At least one of our team is there three days a week. The food is always good. Consistent and creative. But all of us have noticed that the service has gone down hill pretty significantly in the past few months. Inattentive wait staff. Long waits for food. I felt like I needed to shoot a flare off to get some water and bread.

My wife and I have dinned at the Hamilton on several occasions. Recently, we went there with another couple prior to seeing a show at the Warner Theater and did not have the best experience. Service was VERY slow and staggered, food came out cold, and this was just not something I have come to expect from the Hamilton. A typically good place was sub-par at best on this night.

My fiancee and I went there for dinner last week and as we had been there a few times we know what to expect; great food, and attentive service. This time was slightly different. The food was still wonderful though while the service wasn't bad, it was a bit inattentive. We asked for a couple of additional items for the table and we didn't receive and it we weren't asked if we wanted a second cocktail or wine until our food had arrived. This was NOT a major annoyance and our time was not negatively effected but since I have an opportunity to post a review I thought I would mention it.

2 adults, 2 teens enjoyed the casual sophistication and menu variety at Hamilton's. The service was a little slow for the hungry teens who were sightseeing all day. The portobello mushroom sandwich listed on the internet menu was not available on the restaurant menu, which limited the choices for the vegetarian teen, especially as she did not eat fish, but she enjoyed the falafel sandwich. The house burger (with egg) was also filling; it was very large. We skipped the music at this visit.

Restaurant is huge, lots of seating. Was noisy on a Friday night. Large tables available, some had family groups. We ended up next to a large group who separated the kids to the table next to us. They were good, but if you don't want to sit in the kiddie section, might want to ask for something quieter. Great bar menu, lots to choose from for starters and entrees. Food was very tasty. They were busy and crowded but waitress was attentive to us.

This was a pretty disappointing experience from what is considered a DC establishment. I would not recommend going here for dinner (music venue downstairs may be fine). The service was horrible. If you want the details of this comedy of errors, keep reading. The hostess brought 3 menus for our table of 4. She said she would return with a 4th, but never did. When the server arrived a full 10 mins later, she made the same promise but never brought a menu. Not a good start. When our drinks came, they forgot to bring glasses with the wine carafes AND brought me a cosmo instead of my manhattan. They eventually returned with wine glasses and corrected my order. Things were average from this point on, except that we never received bread. Booo.

The Hamilton is very DC. The location is amazing, one block from the White House, especially for the size of the place. The menu is seasonal, and the food is great. The service can be a little slow at times, but I believe this is probably a result of the size of the place. Otherwise, service was excellent. We will be back and would recommend.

I don't usually order dessert samplers, because there is usually one or more items I don't care for. This was different. The dish included banana pudding with whipped cream, chocolate cheese cake, pumpkin moon pie, and apple cobbler. I was not disappointed. For the main corse I had the pork loin glazed with apple butter. There was also extra apple butter on the side. This dish also came with bone marrow deep fried grits. Outstanding meal from start to finish

I have been to the Hamilton several times and it has always been a good experience. I love the fish tacos, but it is always a hard choice because the bento boxes are delicious as are some of their sandwiches. This was my second time to go to the Hamilton for a lunch meeting and I will keep it high on my list for future meetings. Quiet enough that you can hear and terrific food. Love this place!

I brought my wife for our 18th wedding anniversary. I noted it on the reservation but it was never recognized throughout our meal. The appetizers were excellent, but my wife's shrimp and grits was lumpy and bland and my steak frites was overcrowded by a mountain of watercress that was thrown into the mayo and vinegar sauce for the frites... Beautiful venue, but our server just seemed to not care about a thing and kept slamming the plates on our table and looking around at other tables while talking to us... Disappointing...

This is the second year in a row that we selected the Hamilton for one of our meals while in DC. We love the "former bookstore" setting and the wood paneling. The menu is wide; you can have a full dinner or sandwiches. It has a great bar and wine selection. Food has been very good both times. I would recommend they consider offering two sizes of plates. I had the only beef entre on the menu and it was excellent. However, it was a 14 ounce ribeye and I would have loved a piece say 7 or 8 ounces. Overall, it remains one of our favorite DC dinner stops.

This is a great downtown spot; food is quite good with a wide-ranging menu. Service is good. We caught the half-price sushi special, a very good deal for early-birds and we wouldn't have known it was offered in the dining room if the waiter hadn't mentioned it. Discounted nearby parking after 5 is a nice deal especially if you are going to spend time in the area after dinner, where meters must be fed quite late. The bar is quite noisy, be prepared.

My husband and I have been in the area for five+ years. We have driven by The Hamilton plenty of times and have heard great things. Unfortunately, we did not have a positive experience which was mostly related to service. Our waiter was less than attentive. There was no greeting when he came over to pour water. Then when he did come back, so much time had elapsed that we were ready to order our bottle of wine, appetizer and entrees. Once we had our appetizer and before we were even half-way done all of our food came - it was extremely rushed. The whole experience was just very impersonal and unpleasant. It seems like this would be a great place for HH or group settings but not necessarily for a couple celebrating their anniversary.

I've been to the Hamilton a few times. There is always a great mixture of people there and the place is always energetic in the bar areas. I went for dinner this past weekend and the service and food was outstanding. I had a beet salad and the rockfish. Both were very flavorful and delicious. And I might have snuck a few of my friend's sweet potato fries..which were great. That have such a wide variety of menu items that it seems impossible to not find something you'll like here! I plan on visiting every time I'm in town.

The Hamilton seems to be a restaurant looking for an identity. It has as many sandwiches on the dinner menu as it does entrees and offers a large number of Munchies and Starters, which our waiter admitted were the same thing. In addition to the typical American cuisine, a number of Sushi dishes are available (along with spaghetti and pasta). Given the large number of diverse items, it's understandable that The Hamilton would be unable to make any one of them great. Instead, you're left with the feeling that The Hamilton is good, but not particularly memorable. You'll probably go somewhere else when you want a sandwich.

We went last minute for a show & decided to have dinner first. It was amazing! Gooey cake for dessert & it was a tad too gooey. Waiter was very nice but a little inattentive, the restaurant was packed though. Knowledgeable about the menu & recommended an excellent wine. 3rd time eating, not disappointed! We had a few new menu items, the sautéed calimari appetizer & the roasted lamb sandwich. Calimari was delicious. Just a hint of heat with the peppers. Cooked perfectly, flavor was good, I didn't care for the tomato base it was sautéed in. Sandwich was amazing! Breat perfectly toasted & warm, the lamb was tender & very flavorful. I only wish there was a different sauce than the cucumber one they offered. Still a great meal none the less!

This restaurant was ok for brunch. I expected more options for breakfast. As a vegetarian, I live for brunch menus and this didn't impress. The grits were tasty. My friend ordered the calamari and she didn't eat most of it because it was chewy. She did enjoy the crab cakes. I loved the beet salad. The beignets were too heavy and didn't use powdered sugar. I've been at the Hamilton for a show and the food was great, so I wouldn't recommend the brunch time.
