Diner Reviews
  • "I really like the Hamilton's food, and the location is great for me. But the server I had seemed overwhelmed. First, she gave the iced tea my guest ordered to someone else, failed to bring the sweetener, took 30 minutes to bring out our main courses (a pastrami sandwich and a bento box), and then disappeared without getting my guest soy sauce. The last time I went here (about a month ago), the service was too fast. This time it was much too slow. When I have to constantly look for the server to get me what I need, something is wrong."

  • "I ordered the quiche which was nothing special and kind of small"

  • "We were here 4th of July with group of 6. We waited 10 minutes past our reserved time to be seated. The food and service were great."

  • "We have dined at the Hamilton three times now and have enjoyed every visit. The food and service are excellent and we highly recommend it. It's nice to be able to order a good steak as well as sushi at the same place."

  • "I had the shrimp with grits. Absolutely delish! Just enough spice to give it a kick and the grits had a great texture. The grits were the perfect consistency, not runny / soupy but thick and hearty. The flavors mingled nicely. Dessert was their chocolate brownie thing and it was really good too - I left very full. Overall great food."

  • "The food isn't very inventive, yet it's quite satisfying for this spawn of the middle-brow Clyde's Group. We shared a softshell crab plate , then one of us had the house-cured pastrami nd the other the grits with shrimp. Our Open Table reservation on July 4th was honored immediately, while walk-ins had a 40-minute wait. Our server seemed friendly -- when we saw her. When we never got the bread that went to other tables, we had to flag a manager to ask for some. And when my wife's dish arrived with the grits way-cold, we had to flag another passing manager to have them heated."

  • "The Hamilton is a beautiful restaurant but they have managed to complicate the wait staff so much that the service is awful. The waitress basically takes your order and disappears while a slew of servers appear now and then with various parts of your order. Also, the booths along the outer edge of the room are FREEZING. So if you go, request a table not a booth."

  • "We love the food and recommend this restaurant to all our friends, HOWEVER, the service Fri night was awful. We brought friends who had been wanting to come and eat at The Hamilton. The booth table we reserved and waited for - was 'seated' accidentally and they had to ask that group to get up and move. We were finally seated - and then a waiter NEVER SHOWED UP....to the point my husband got up and went to the Hostess Desk - and then one of hostesses ended up taking care of us all night. They need more waiters as the service here ALWAYS is spotty - normally the service is very slow."

  • "Our family had an enjoyable meal at the Hamiton. We were there at the end of the match between Costa Rica and The Netherlands. It was raucous in the bar but interesting. Dinner was very nice in the semi-private booth by the window."

  • "Ate there twice while visiting DC over the 4th of July. Very diverse menu. Reasonable prices. Very good beer and wine selection. Service was great the 1st visit and pretty good the 2nd. On both occasions the food was well prepared and very good."

  • "Excellent restaurant in DC for a visit when in the area. They have a noted wine list and great selection of 1/2 bottles. Food is delicious but not inexpensive. They have large portions so you can easily share. I would recommend for a great bite when in DC but expect it to be expensive. The service is good and there are comfortable booth seats if you request from the hostess. We will be returning :)"

  • "The Hamilton is quite large, comprising several different rooms/themes and a nightclub below. This used to be a department store space, so that gives you an idea of the square footage. My husband attends events and lunches during his business week regularly, and really likes it. Our family dined there for the Fourth of July--and on a very busy tourism day/evening, they did a great job with pleasant service and great food. We were lucky to have reservations, as the wait otherwise would have been an hour or more!"

  • "My wife and I went with our two kids while on vacation in DC. I was a little nervous when we walked in because the seating area around the two bars was very loud. Luckily they walked us into the separate dining area and it was very quiet. We had salmon, a ribeye and a porkchop and all three were some of the best we have ever had. Service was very attentive. Deserts were good but not great. Expensive but finally had a good meal on our trip after many disappointments."

  • "The restaurant had a really nice crowd for a Monday night and the service was great. The food was consistent in quality with what I was expecting, however, the drink were not very consistent in quality. However, the waiter worked with us and we got new drinks that were suitable to our palates."

  • "Part of the Clydes' restaurant group, Hamilton's dining experience is similar to Clydes--a bit loud, food prepared well--but nothing outstanding, and a pretty decent beer and wine list. Hamilton's draw is its outstanding decor, and its location near Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House, and both National and Warner Theaters."

  • "First impression was not the best. The gentleman at the front desk was rather abrupt, almost rude. But after that, the experience was great. Appetizers (shrimp tempura rolls and Yellowtail carpaccio) were fantastic. Dinners were good as well. Server was great, she recommended a wine for dinner that was spot on with the meal. After dinner, we aw a performance at Hamilton Live - good service there as well. Will go back again."

  • "I selected The Hamilton as the restaurant to celebrate my friends 25th Birthday. We had a great experience. We made reservations and was able to be seated immediately upon arrival. The food came in a timely manner and was great. The staff was friendly and warm and the price was good. Also great drinks especially the peach sangria."

  • "one of our party had the sushi and said it was the best ever. however, the wait for our table was very frustrating. we were moved to a "quiet spot" to wait because the table was "almost ready," but we waited another 20 mins in a place that did not have a bar option. frustrating."

  • "Food was decent, portions were pretty small... Service was somewhat rushed especially for a Friday night... The restaurant was extremely loud, most of the noise coming from the bar which was packed... Dessert was the best part, huge in comparison to the entree sizes and the boozy shake was yummy too!!"

  • "Took my mother here for her birthday. Dinner was great, however, the waitress continuously kept coming to the table. She asked to take our plates then left the table without taking a single plate. Awkward"

  • "Dinner & Dessert was great. Our server seemed unhappy. Not sure if it was because it was so busy or because he had a table of family w/kids right by ours. Didn't hurt the overall vibe.. just seemed he didn't want to talk much to the customers. Very perfunctory. Food (I had the roasted half-chicken) was amazing and the dessert-- some kind of chocolate-y thing with dulce de leche ice cream was beyond. Will continue to recommend this restaurant!"

  • "I've been meaning to check out the Hamilton for awhile but for one reason or another I never made it until June 25, 2014. I absolutely LOVED IT. So much so that I can't wait to go back and I'm going to check out their private dining areas for our executive meetings/dinners. I was hurt when Garfinkles closed its doors in that building, but happen to see that someone else has made it another happy place for me."

  • "Its an odd combination of old boy DC and great sushi, great beers and cheese and charcuterie, fun appetizers, great service, sushi happy hour 3-6...its big, it has 2 bars, there is something for everyone. My kids love it, I love it. I go with girlfriends for lunch and after work. My kids always want to get sushi there when we are in DC. I keep meaning to go for the music too. I love the open face brisket sandwich. And the steak salad at lunch is the perfect size. The quiet booths have doors for privacy and quiet conversations. Its just a great all around place in an are that desperately needed it!"

  • "We came here for a graduation brunch. I loved everyhting about what I ate from the Wings and Mumbo sauce.. to the Chicken sandwhich that I had. I also loved my pickle. I never really eat the pickle on the side but it was good so I had to have another one with my leftovers. The rest of my party had burgers which they said were pretty good, and the roasted turkey sandwhich, which was said to be good. The service was good and everyone who worked there was so friendly and nice. I will surley come back again and again."

  • "The bars are great for watching sporting events, eating terrific food, and sipping on amazing cocktails. We take our visiting guests to the Hamilton for a meal after visiting the National Mall. The food is delicious, reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is comfortable. Always a great choice! Great addition: MUSIC VENUE!"

  • "My husband and I really enjoy the Hamilton. The location allows for street parking as well as garages. The bar scene is very vibrant/busy...especially during big sporting events. We normally dine in the dining area and have found that we enjoy the appetizers more than then the entrees. The DC Wings are a must! I would also recommend sushi and the donut for dessert. We tried the pork chop, but ended up sending it back as it had very little flavor. This is a really nice spot if you decide to get a bite to eat late at night. They're open til' 12-1am."

  • "The noise was too much for us older folk but the food was good and the room was just stunning. I understand this was formerly a department store but the beautiful wood work was worth trying this place. While the food was good, it was not my favorite meal in Washington. But in fairness to the place, they were overrun with large parties. The very best thing was the little cookie that came with the coffee."

  • "Service was OK - a few things were missed and had to be asked for twice. But the food was great - especially for the price. Great varied menu."

  • "We have eaten there multiple times. Generally, we enjoy the conversation with the managers and senior wait staff. We have taken photographs with managers and collect their cards when we done. Although, we asked that a manager stop by to say hello, there was no "hello" from Johnny this time. We were disappointed and told the wait staff that we were not seeking any "comps" but just wanted to say hello. My wife enjoyed her vegetable dish and my pasta dish with clams was good. The summer Hamilton Mule drink was just ok, but not kicking as advertised. We had Reisling wine and a blueberry dessert. We had to ask the wait staff for the itemized bill as he returned with the credit card and only the two receipts. We have had better service before."

  • "Have been here numerous times; rarely disappoints. One of my favorite spots in DC for a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience. They clearly make every effort to get it right. Outstanding food, wine menu, deserts, you name it. Great service."

  • "Best pastrami sandwich ever, steak good however served way too rare, nearly raw asked for medium rare. For sake of time didn't send back. Although I understand it was a Friday night took over 30 mins to get a non-alcoholic drink to table and Waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed. But overall good experience and would return unless I was in any kind of rush."
