I love this place, very sophisticated, yet not too stuffy. Food is outstanding, never had a bad selection here and tons of wines to choose from. Friend had the sushi and was very pleased. I always recomend Hamilton to friends and out of town guests.

My friend requested to go to The Hamilton for brunch on Sunday. I made reservations and was disappointed that little effort was made to follow through with my reservation request (provide a high chair and make her birthday special). Despite the reservation blip the service was fine , the drinks were a bit pricey to be so average, and the food was great. I would definitely go back for the brunch food. The DC wings were a big hit with our group.

  • Good food & atmosphere, bad service

The place is gorgeous, a great historic sort-of vibe, with lots of dark wood. We enjoyed our meals (a cheese plate, the crab cake dinner, the brisket sandwich), and one of the seasonal cocktails (the District Cider was great, but Ruby Red Negroni was not). The issue was the service. It took about 10 min for the waitress to come over, asked twice for lemons (never got them), and was NEVER checked on when we got our meals. When we were finished we just sat there with empty plates, the waitress came over, asked if we wanted more water and the dessert menu, said yes, but 15min later didn't get either. We had to ask someone else for the check, and again another 10min passed, and had to wait again for our CCs back! Great, but bad service

The Hamilton is a bit of everything. The place is huge but divided in sections. The 2 bars can get a bit noisy but the other rooms are great for dinner. The big room in the back can accommodate big parties. The sushi is the best I've ever had. The food is delicious. High quality, fresh ingredients. The service has always been excellent. It's a classy place. I love the decor.

After we were seated at the table, nobody showed up for almost 25 minutes. We had to flag down a gentleman in a suit to take our order. We had a friend come a little late. We had to stop the gentleman in the suit and he took her order. Finally the waiter showed up we our food and the check. We never saw him again. After a long while we had to get up and go get someone ourselves. We had to stop the waitress, and she took our card. We went in around 11:50 and didn't get out until about 2.We were neglected and nobody took the time to get somebody to help us, not even to pay the bill. You are always busy, but the service has never suffered. I would recommend you because of the other times that I have been there. But yesterday was just unacceptable.

This was my second visit to The Hamilton. The place was packed. The food was good, service could have been slightly better but it was understandable due to the sheer volume of people there. Only draw back was due to number of people it was extremely noisy.

I really enjoyed my dinning experience. My husband and I were entertaining friends visiting from England and wanted to treat them to a nice restaurant downtown DC. The service was great! We had recently decided to take a break from eating out due to a bad experience at another DC notable restaurant. However, I am soo glad we ventured back out and dined at the Hamilton. Our guest had a great time. We are able to catch-up without feeling rushed by the wait staff.

The woodwork is everywhere, but it does not feel overwhelming as it is done tastefully and with good lighting. The biggest issue was the noise, but we were prepared as we had been told about the restaurant's popularity. The food was good, but I was disappointed by the lobster bisque, which is my favorite soup and one I never miss trying when it is on the menu. This one was too thin and did not have any lobster at all. Great beer selection helped.

I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with my closest friends. I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance and upon arriving at the restaurant had to wait an additional hour AFTER my scheduled reservation time to be seated. The guy at the front desk was extremely rude and had an attitude. Our waitress was ok. She took our drink orders and disappeared for almost 20 minutes, only to come back to the table smelling of smoke with a lighter in her hand (guess we were interrupting her smoke break). Very lovely restaurant and the food selections were great and didnt disappoint. I would come back for the food and the atmosphere but definitely need to include employees with good customer service skills to this establishment.

It takes a while to place your order and eventually be served here, but the food is great. Reasonably priced, too. Building is very nice, with high ceilings, but it is cacophonous in there. Need to speak loudly to hear the person across from you. Crowd is dressed fashionably. They have music venues upstairs and downstairs.

We walked into a supercharged bar scene to claim our OpenTable reservation and was disappointed to find the seaters at the host station ready to tell us there was a one hour wait before we could even mention we had an OpenTable reservation. They could have cared less and tried to seat us in a noisy banquette when I had, in my reservation, requested a booth. One was available but they told us it had been requested although we had too and the other party was not there to claim it. Things improved with a booth, after a 15-minute wait, and a great meal. The kitchen never disappoints. The server also was pleasant, available and brought the food out warm and with good timing. I would improve the host station and nothing else.

My firm uses the Hamilton as though it were our corporate cafeteria. At least one of our team is there three days a week. The food is always good. Consistent and creative. But all of us have noticed that the service has gone down hill pretty significantly in the past few months. Inattentive wait staff. Long waits for food. My wife and I have dinned at the Hamilton on several occasions. Recently, we went there with another couple prior to seeing a show at the Warner Theater and did not have the best experience. My fiancee and I went there for dinner last week and as we had been there a few times we know what to expect; great food, and attentive service. This time was slightly different. The food was still wonderful though while the service wasn't bad, it was a bit inattentive. We asked for a couple of additional items for the table and we didn't receive and it we weren't asked if we wanted a second cocktail or wine until our food had arrived. This was NOT a major annoyance and our time was not negatively effected but since I have an opportunity to post a review I thought I would mention it.

2 adults, 2 teens enjoyed the casual sophistication and menu variety at Hamilton's. The service was a little slow for the hungry teens who were sightseeing all day. The portobello mushroom sandwich listed on the internet menu was not available on the restaurant menu, which limited the choices for the vegetarian teen, especially as she did not eat fish, but she enjoyed the falafel sandwich. The house burger (with egg) was also filling; it was very large. We skipped the music at this visit.

Restaurant is huge, lots of seating. Was noisy on a Friday night. Large tables available, some had family groups. We ended up next to a large group who separated the kids to the table next to us. They were good, but if you don't want to sit in the kiddie section, might want to ask for something quieter. Great bar menu, lots to choose from for starters and entrees. Food was very tasty. They were busy and crowded but waitress was attentive to us.

This was a pretty disappointing experience from what is considered a DC establishment. I would not recommend going here for dinner (music venue downstairs may be fine). The service was horrible. If you want the details of this comedy of errors, keep reading. The hostess brought 3 menus for our table of 4. She said she would return with a 4th, but never did. When the server arrived a full 10 mins later, she made the same promise but never brought a menu. Not a good start. When our drinks came, they forgot to bring glasses with the wine carafes AND brought me a cosmo instead of my manhattan. They eventually returned with wine glasses and corrected my order. Things were average from this point on, except that we never received bread. Booo.

The Hamilton is very DC. The location is amazing, one block from the White House, especially for the size of the place. The menu is seasonal, and the food is great. The service can be a little slow at times, but I believe this is probably a result of the size of the place. Otherwise, service was excellent. We will be back and would recommend.

I don't usually order dessert samplers, because there is usually one or more items I don't care for. This was different. The dish included banana pudding with whipped cream, chocolate cheese cake, pumpkin moon pie, and apple cobbler. I was not disappointed. For the main corse I had the pork loin glazed with apple butter. There was also extra apple butter on the side. This dish also came with bone marrow deep fried grits.
