Diner Reviews
  • "The Hamilton has reliably good food. There are some fun surprises on the menu like sushi, which I tried (unagi) this time and was pleased. The others in my group all seemed to enjoy their food as well. My only critique is that the waitress seemed absent when I would have liked to have gotten the check. At least 15 minutes passed after we were finished eating (admittedly a few of us were still polishing off the remains of an order of french fries) before the waitress stopped by to check on us. Ordinarily I would not have cared, but it was at lunch during a work day and we needed to get back to work. Otherwise a delightful lunch."

  • "The ambiance and menu impressed our 6-person group, but we all left extremely disappointed by the service. We were seated at 12:55 PM and didn't exit the restaurant until 3:15 PM because, it seems, the waitress kept forgetting about us. It took about 30 minutes from the time we ordered to get our appetizers, then another 20 or 25 minutes to get our entrees. We asked for the check at about 2:30 PM, then at 2:50 someone in a party actually walked around the room to find our waitress to ask again for the check. The up side is that the food quality was above average, and the brunch menu was diverse and big without being overwhelming."

  • "Our waitress sort of rushed us to order and we were waiting for one more person to arrive. She didn't ask us if we wanted dessert or coffee or tea. There was plenty of tables in the restaurant so it's not like people were waiting for a booth."

  • "Surprisingly good, great service, beautiful over the top decor….love the bar scene, and there are THREE bars plus a basement music scene….the upstairs music venue is more intimate than the basement. Regardless, the crab cakes are excellent, the sashimi first rate, the sliders are YUMMY!"

  • "I've been here with my wife multiple times, and this restaurant continues to offer a great meal and great service. love the cheese. Quickly becoming my go-to spot for a great evening in DC."

  • "Good food, good beer menu, good service. Large size of the establishment means you can decide late to go there and you can still get a table."

  • "The achilles heal to this restaurant is its inability to handle guests who have reserved a table during a busy time. I was forced to wait in line just to confirm my reservation, only to again wait almost 10 minutes to be seated (20 minutes after the scheduled reservation). The service was also sub par. My waiter was often forgetful of our orders, frequently forgetting to bring something (utensils, glasses, etc.). Overall, not worth the price of admission (which is hefty)."

  • "The restaurant is large and therefore could lead to neglect, but that was mostly avoided. Staff were considerate and did a good job. Good food choices."

  • "The history, architecture and ambiance made this restaurant well worth the visit. Modest prices and the food is relatively delicious. The service was slow, but it was also a very busy Saturday night. If you are a foodie who appreciates a good atmosphere, I'd recommend a visit!"

  • "Very busy place. Everybody meets there after work. Very loud. Food was good and service was excellent considering how many people were there."

  • "I have eaten in some noisy places, I could not have a conversation with the person sitting across from me. Understandably packed for dinner but I would probably never return unless it's for beer at the bar. Unfurtunate as the food is outstanding and they have superb sushi."

  • "Our second time with Chris the waiter who was, again, enthusiastic recommending dishes and attentive. The food is always very good! This is one of our favorite places in town."

  • "We were visiting relatives in DC and didn't know where to go for lunch. I used Trip Advisory to find a restaurant near the hotel where we were and I saw that the Hamilton was close by and had great reviews so we made a reservation with Open Table. From the moment we walked into the restaurant I was wowed. What a beautiful restuarant! Dark wood, beautiful lighting and an elegant atmosphere. It was busy in the Hamilton, but they seated us immediately. Our waiter was very efficient, however, I didn't feel he exuded any warmth. The food was delicious and the prices were good. I would definitely go back again!"

  • "Made a last minute decision to go to brunch, but forgot about the race! Wow, that was a lot of people! The restaurant seemed unfazed by the crowds and made our first experience there enjoyable. The food was innovative and very good. We will definitely be back for dinner."

  • "While visiting DC recently we were looking for a restaurant that offered both a tasty and healthy menu. We found it at The Hamilton! Great atmosphere, excellent menu, and catered well for the kids. My order turned out to be the envy of my party. I ordered the crab cakes, which were excellent! Maybe the best I've had!?"

  • "VERY NOISY. Almost impossible to carry on a conversation but enclosed booths made a big difference in the noise level."

  • "I've always enjoyed coming here for lunches and drinks, but had not come for dinner. My wife and I had wonderful date night at the Hamilton with great food. Like their Clyde's group siblings, the Hamilton is a great value. You can have a wonderful meal with drinks great atmosphere--without breaking the bank. I will look forward to coming back--hopefully soon!"

  • "Great place with art everywhere to enjoy and great food. Plus if your lucky you can catch a musical show upstairs in the Loft or downstiars in the music hall. We will be going back!"

  • "The dining room was lovely -- the ambiance was romantic and the noise level was MUCH quieter than in the bar (I was initially concerned about that) -- so our party of 6 was easily able to communicate and enjoy our time together. Moreover, the food was top-notch and our server was very attentive."

  • "Our family (20-somethings and parents) met at The Hamilton for a lovely dinner prior to seeing a show. I am glad we had made a reservation through Open Table, because this place was hopping, even at 6 PM on a Friday. The service and food were outstanding. We started with calamari. I had the crabcake. Others had sushi, mac & cheese and rockfish -- all excellent. The only slight negative was that the rockfish with gigante beans was perhaps a little bland. All in all, I highly recommend The Hamilton for any special occasion."

  • "I've been to The Hamilton before and while the food was never amazing, I've always had a good dining experience...until now. The waiter did not appear for at least 10 to 15 minutes and even after he did, he was unpleasant and seemed to be rushing us out. Then when the food came, it was extremely salty, to the point where we needed two water jugs at the table for two people."

  • "Great location, great environment, so sad that food was so disappointing. Food was served cold on a very cold night. Why the delay in getting food to table? Just cant figure it out. How can a burger with great quality beef be served so poorly? Dont order the crabcakes, seems like recipe doesnt travel well from Baltimore to Washington DC."

  • "I've been to this restaurant twice while visiting DC. This is a very special place. The menu is ever changing with new and seasonal delights. The food is completely wonderful. The prices are moderate and surprising given the quality of preparation and presentation. Our servers were well informed and helpful in providing guidance on menu and wine selections. The restaurant has something for just about everyone. Bar food, sandwiches, sushi, to high-end entree items. This is a very large venue with multiple types of eating areas giving it the feeling of a smaller restaurant. I would go back a again and again if I lived in Washington DC. Simply superb! A delight to visit."

  • "I chose the Hamilton to take my daughter for a special dinner. Our appetizers were very good. The entrees came late and were completely cold - they had been sitting for at least ten minutes. The manager tried to fix it but when they came back they weren't much better. Our server was clueless. I wanted to get dessert as a treat but we had no confidence that we could get it within 30 minutes so we didn't do it. The Hamilton has a nice menu and is a beautiful place, but the staff in both the front and back of the house needs more training."

  • "We certainly enjoyed the ambiance, food and exceptional service at the Hamilton. We did not appreciate the fact that we had to practically shout across the table to communicate with one another. The noise level is not energetic; it is annoying. We'll be back with paper and pen or tablets to communicate with one another during dinner."

  • "This restauraunt was so noisy we could not hear the waitress or each other. Our table was in a traffic lane of continual people walking back and forth..We came for a 21st wedding anniversary special night out and I felt like I was in a fast food joint. Maitre D was disinterested and rude. Food was good but it was a poor dining experience."

  • "Food & service were good, no complaints. It was just too loud. It was Friday evening around 9 so loud is to be expected, but this particular night it was just super loud - partially the number of people & several large parties but I think the acoustics could be helped in the dining rooms...that would be a wonderful change as the food & service were otherwise great."

  • "When our group arrived for our 12pm reservation, there was a line out the door. It took us 10 mins just to get to the host. We got a nice table, but it took our server a while to get to us. She must have been really busy bc we didn't see her much. She did bring us drink refills before we had to ask, so that's a +. The sushi & sashimi bento boxes are AMAZING! Good food, but make reservation & don't expect to get out in a hurry."

  • "Not only is The Hamilton a great restaurant, but below the restaurant lies another great gem, the live music venue, The Hamilton. Upstairs are four different dining areas, one being more of a bar setting. The booths have mini french doors that can be closed to allow for a more private meal, blocking out some of the noise. I love this place."

  • "We enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere is very good. I had the duck and butternut squash linguini, and I'm glad I ordered the smaller portion because it very rich. My husband had the double portion of crab cakes and he was glad he got two because one wouldn't have been enough."

  • "May have hit an off night. Food was very good but service was below expectations. Main course delivered too soon litter ally just after we got our salids. Waitress a bit too distracted. We had an early time and restaurant was not crowded."

  • "The Hamilton has been CONSISTENTLY good with service and food. GREAT wine list and food is always great. VERY convenient for meet -ups and large enough to handle BIG parties. Menu is great (variety) and food is good."

  • "If you like the brand and know Clydes you know that everything is huge but no detail is left behind. The food was great, the service was great, and the ambiance was great. If I had one complaint is that I would like to see the food come accompanied with the correct silverware. My girlfriend's pork chop did not come with a meat/carving knife, and my mussels did not come with a proper fork. Everything else was spot on. Beverages: I had a Grand Marnier Sidecar, which was made correct. Other cocktails on the menu that my girlfriend had were tasty as well. Another thing, their mambo sauce is legit. Better than 90% of the carry-outs in DC. I approve. Thanks -Peter Nguyen GM, Taste Gastropub, Olney MD."
