My husband and I have been in the area for five+ years. We have driven by The Hamilton plenty of times and have heard great things. Unfortunately, we did not have a positive experience which was mostly related to service. Our waiter was less than attentive. There was no greeting when he came over to pour water. Then when he did come back, so much time had elapsed that we were ready to order our bottle of wine, appetizer and entrees. Once we had our appetizer and before we were even half-way done all of our food came - it was extremely rushed. The whole experience was just very impersonal and unpleasant. It seems like this would be a great place for HH or group settings but not necessarily for a couple celebrating their anniversary.

I've been to the Hamilton a few times. There is always a great mixture of people there and the place is always energetic in the bar areas. I went for dinner this past weekend and the service and food was outstanding. I had a beet salad and the rockfish. Both were very flavorful and delicious. And I might have snuck a few of my friend's sweet potato fries..which were great. That have such a wide variety of menu items that it seems impossible to not find something you'll like here! I plan on visiting every time I'm in town.

We went last minute for a show & decided to have dinner first. It was amazing! Gooey cake for dessert & it was a tad too gooey. Waiter was very nice but a little inattentive, the restaurant was packed though. Knowledgeable about the menu & recommended an excellent wine. 3rd time eating, not disappointed! We had a few new menu items, the sautéed calimari appetizer & the roasted lamb sandwich. Calimari was delicious. Just a hint of heat with the peppers. Cooked perfectly, flavor was good, I didn't care for the tomato base it was sautéed in. Sandwich was amazing! Breat perfectly toasted & warm, the lamb was tender & very flavorful. I only wish there was a different sauce than the cucumber one they offered. Still a great meal none the less!

This restaurant was ok for brunch. I expected more options for breakfast. As a vegetarian, I live for brunch menus and this didn't impress. The grits were tasty. My friend ordered the calamari and she didn't eat most of it because it was chewy. She did enjoy the crab cakes. I loved the beet salad. The beignets were too heavy and didn't use powdered sugar. I've been at the Hamilton for a show and the food was great, so I wouldn't recommend the brunch time.

I was treated to a very small birthday celebration at The Hamilton recently which was actually my first visit to the restaurant. Very impressive!!! I loved the décor and atmosphere of the restaurant. We were seated in a comfortable semi-private booth. Loved it! However, more importantly, the food and service were outstanding!!! I had the organic half chicken with potato salad and key lime pie for dessert which were divine! The hostess and wait staff were very attentive, warm and friendly. The location makes it very accessible, especially if using public transportation. I highly recommend The Hamilton and look forward to my next visit there.

I can't think of any other place where I order a Japanese tuna/salmon sashimi salad as my first course, then southern style spicy shrimp and grits next, and they don't miss a beat or look like they came from different places. The Hamilton is about having lots of choices, and more importantly having the confidence that they'll all be done well. Having been a few times I've had good sushi, good dips, good steaks, salads, etc. It's hard to crack 5 Stars in any of the rating categories, but this place is always solid and hits the 3-4 star range on every visit. Keep in mind it is VERY "D.C"...meaning you'll see plenty of suits eating lunch, expense account types, political talk echoing from every table, etc. But the food is the bomb, period.

I am disappointed by my latest trip here. For me, the Hamilton is one of my favorite places to go for late night food and drink. My parents came into town and were both celebrating their birthday, so I thought it would be a good place to sit down for dinner. While our server was friendly and attentive, we did have a few issues. It took a markedly long time to receive our cocktails. We were promised bread that never appeared. The rest of our meal was delicious, but the hangar steak was completely flavorless. To top it off (while I wasn't expecting anything for free), our waitress never mentioned any word of the birthdays. For a place that I so regularly enjoy, I can tell my parents were disappointed. Next time I will take guests elsewhere.

Went to dinner at Hamilton with my mother. Had been there a few weeks earlier for lunch. Broad menu - something for everyone. Mom enjoyed crab cakes (which I enjoyed at previous lunch). Lobster bisque was excellant but Rockfish was not that great - bland and tasteless. Peach crisp was very good. Waiter working hard but may have had too many tables. I ordered a second glass of wine but it still hadnt arrived well into my entree. A manager stopped by and went off to find it but brought wrong wine (i had changed to white). Waiter fixed immediately but when bill came, I had been charged for the extra wine that was sent back. Bill was fixed but only because my mom noticed before paying. I'll be back.

Clyde's ownership of all its restaurants never disappoints. The Hamilton is lovely to look at, with good-looking booths, some at windows and wonderfully prepared and imaginative food. This was a lunch and was every bit the same level as my earlier dinner at this place. They have a sushi bar and offer imaginatively prepared special rolls and bento boxes along with all kinds of burgers, plates and salads. I had the vegetarian platter, an interesting combination of quinoa and another grain mixed with miniature yellow tomatoes and also large white beans and green beans ...all with great flavor. My lunch partner ordered some sushi rolls, very spicy with eel, avocado and other ingredients and loved the dish. I will be back!

The ambiance is outstanding and the restaurant was packed on a Monday evening. We had reservations so we enjoyed good seating in a booth where we could talk. The server seemed new in that several times we had to ask for utensils and plates and we never got them. He forgot - not acceptable for a higher end restaurant like this. He was waiting on a big table and long periods of time would go before we saw him. We had to ask him to take away the plates when we finished and they were taking up plates before we were finished. They said they had a plate shortage - not my problem - this is their issue! We also had to ask for our bill and then again for them to process the bill. We were putting more effort into our service than the server!

We had tickets for a 7:30 show at the National Theater and a 6 pm dinner reservation. Not a TON of time, but it was plenty given the attentive service and timely food prep. Appetizers were the tuna tartare and ricotta-stuffed figs, both very good; entrees were sea scallops and the brisket sandwich, also both very tasty, and "tasty bites" dessert which offers four mini versions off the dessert menu. Everything was great and service was professional and helpful regarding wine & food choices. Can't wait for our next theater outing!

Ate dinner August 30 and I was extremely disappointed. The restaurant ambiance/decor is great, but they missed on every other front. Our server was very friendly, but what we told her did not seem to matter as half our order was wrong and the timing was incorrect. We ordered sushi and it was as bland as pre-packaged grocery store sushi. After sushi (and a bland appetizer), my son was still hungry. I should have cut my losses but ordered another small plate for him, with a slight modification to the menu preparation. Again the server smiled and said no problem and again the food came other than as we requested. When we explained we did not get what we ordered our server simply apologized and brought an unadjusted bill.

I went to the Hamilton recently for a business lunch. The food and service were terrific. I had the sashimi salad, which was out of this world. I'd go back in a heart beat. There aren't a lot of great lunch options in that neighborhood. Old Ebbitt is ok, but it's always jam-packed at lunch. The Hamilton is much more civilized and the food was great. I highly recommend it.
