Diner Reviews
  • "I dined at Grypon when they first opened last year. It was good then, but great now. Loved the social plate options. Great service and love the atmosphere. I hope they have a good go at their "re-invention.""

  • "Made reservations here for July 4th dinner not knowing what to expect. The menu concept was pretty cool, and we shared a cut, and a few small plates. Creative cocktails too. Bartender was a little moody, but then again, working on the 4th, I would be too. Overall great visit and will definitely return"

  • "I was not expecting the Gryphon to look and feel the way that it did. My girlfriends and I came here for brunch to celebrate my birthday and had a great time. We were there for 4 hours. Might have been the bottomless mimosas. Food was great! Service was amazing. We will definitely be back."

  • "Clearly a place and staff more focused on libations, dating couples, friends-out-for-dinner-before-hitting-the-club/bar scene, than on table service. That said the food was very well prepared and quite good... We just weren't in the right mood and weren't quite the right table for this kind of joint (two adults, two kids...12-14)... Definitely a more adult menu and flavor/ingredient profile... Wait staff was indifferent and not very good listeners...(maybe they were just getting psyched up for a long night and we were an early table) I'd go again...but with a purpose other than/different from the simple dinner we set out for."

  • "I've done a number of the small plate restaurants in the city, Barcelona, 901, Recess, you name it. That being said this place takes "small plates" to another level. You would think, the owners of this restaurant group, with the likes of the Brixton and Lost Society under their belt would kind of have this down. WRONG. The portion size should be called a sampling menu. We have the short ribs, shrimp cocktail, salmon, and some other dishes. The shrimp cocktail is very flavorful and light. The wait staff, all seem inexperienced could use some tweeking. My waitress didn't know what a Manhattan was. She also had never heard of Makers Mark or Bulleit. I realized this after she brought my guest and myself an old fashioned instead."

  • "Upscale place, beautiful design, amazing food and romantic atmosphere! What else you need? Make sure dress casual! prices really affordable, portions is pretty big and service is amazing! Highly recommend !"

  • "A sports bar, which was what I was looking for. But it was way too loud due to volume on TVs, not the crowd. The service was not good. Waiter screwed up two orders despite asking about one to be sure. Even the selection of games on the screens wasn't good."

  • "We arranged for dinner and specifically wanted to watch two different baseball games at the same time. Out table was ready right at our reservation time and was situated in in the middle of the room. We had excellent sight lines to the screens which were turned to the games we requested as soon as we were seated. The service was excellent and the staff was friendly and responsive. The food was surprisingly good for what we chose as a sports bar. The manger stopped by to ask how our meal was and when we expressed our surprise at the quality of the food he shared with us that they were specifically trying to address more discriminating diners. Excellent location at DuPont Circle great place to watch any game."

  • "I loved the vibe. We had a blast. The server was very polite and professional. The management gave us loads of reasons to come back. He suggested a bunch of dishes and he was right about them all. Great food!"

  • "Our second time there was even better then the first. We were greeted by the manager who also showed us to our table. He was extremely nice and helpful when I asked about some of the menu items. Our server was also very friendly and professional. It was not overly crowded like our last visit which we were all very happy to see. The manager stopped by our table more then once to make sure the 3 of us were ok which went really well with my boss. He's a foodie and likes to nit pick sometimes. The Happy Hour specials are very lady friendly and the food dishes we great too."

  • "Packed is an understatement! Service was slow due to the large crowds, but once our order was finally taken, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. My food was delicious, I'll patronize Gryphon in the future, however next time I'll be prepared for the wait."

  • "Incredibly loud, mediocre bar food that attempts to be "upscale" but fails, and seems to have an identity crisis: high end sports bar or low end club? Music blaring during the NCAA tournament showing on literally dozens of TVs is a very odd choice."

  • "Definitely more of an upscale sports bar - very fun scene!"

  • "we actually tried to have dinner but it was so loud we couldn't hear each other. came back the next day for lunch and found this place to be great!!"

  • "Great place to watch sports. Menu looked solid, though I would definitely get something along the theme of "pub food". I'd go back for sure!"

  • "My friend and I wanted a place where we could eat and drink WELL while watching basketball during the tournament. This is a great choice---definitely lived up to the reviews I read. Staff really super and our small plates and craft beers were first rate. Man, it was noisy. But we expected that--what else would I think? The atmosphere was sophisticated and lots of fun--screens EVERYWHERE. Really easy to track the games while socializing. Would go again."

  • "The Gryphon is still very new and definitely has some kinks to work out. The food was fine for a bar, but The Gryphon needs to decide if it is going to be a sports bar or a dance club and not try to be both at the same time. By 9pm, the music was so loud that no one in my group could understand each other, even when shouting. And, the sound system is not high quality enough to play music well at such loud decibels, the speakers were practically screeching above us. The food was good for a bar, but that's definitely all this place is striving for, a bar with nicer food than the bars nearby."

  • "This is the 2nd time I have been here, and the fact other employees contributed to the overall service speaks volumes. Some of the 4 and 5 star establishments can't match the level of service this place does, and there were at least 100 people there. Make a reservation ahead of time, all the tables were occupied or had reserved signs on it."

  • "Cool atmosphere and good food but service needs a lot of help. Good TV set up though some are too high and barely visible. Waitress messed up two orders and no manager came to talk to us. Drinks took over 15 minutes from the waitress."

  • "We went there on a date and we were excited because it just opened. It was a bit loud, and there was an extremely excited group sitting behind us watching a basketball game so it was hard to hear but the decor is nice and the food was very good. Service was also good, though their credit card machine went down for some reason. Overall I would recommend this place, but probably not for a dinner for two. Its more suited for a group of friends."

  • "It's brand new, so there were some fits and starts in the service, but overall a very, very satisfying experience. The food was pretty good, if a bit overpriced for a sports bar. (If I'm drinking out of mason jars, the entrees shouldn't be $25.) Still, I'd give this place a go again."
