Great ambiance and cocktail and food menu but delivery/actual food items kind of average. Fried oysters over breaded and under flavored. Cocktails 2 on scale of 1- 5. Not greatest mixologists but bartender was nice. Tried to be patient and engaging with our server but to no avail. He was pushy an passive aggressive. A 1 on scale of 1-5.

So I have been to The Gryphon twice since they reopened. Both times the food was outstanding and the crowd was pretty. Each time the service was awful. This is a loud and trendy place. A fun atmosphere to see and be seen. It's Dallas Glamour Chic with a great menu to match. I wish their wine selection and service could keep up with the menu and atmosphere. I know that I will go back, but be warned, have a stiff drink at the beginning of the meal so that you can relax about the awful service. Spoke to the manager and she seemed truly concerned and really trying to make a difference. Check it out, worth a try.

Club-like atmosphere which makes having a conversation almost impossible. Was told music would be turned down after happy hour ended which didn't happen. Food was good and service attentive. If you want wine, ask about the bottle cost on the individual pours.

I had a living social deal which was great but the restaurant seemed confused about what was offered and how many deals could be use per table although in the fine print it stated two. We did a lot of waiting in the beginning for our orders to be taken as they figured out the living social deal. The ambiance was great and our server was extremely friendly and helpful. For a tapas style restaurant the table was not large enough for bottles of wine and plates of food to be placed on the table. I would suggest wine buckets with a stand so that is one less item on the table. The other thing was the lady who cleaned off the dirty dishes seemed to be rushing us. She kept coming by trying to take away the plates before we were even done.

We had a 6:00 reservation at the same time as a happy hour event in the bar area. The music was pretty loud, but the manager was nice enough to turn it down after she saw us leaning across the table to talk to each other--we didn't even have to ask. The waitress was nice, if a tad aloof, but that seems to be the standard in DC these days. The manager was very attentive. We had the charred octopus appetizer, which was a nice, fresh departure from the standard issue breaded calamari you get at most restaurants. And the steak was amazing! That's their specialty and justifiably so. We would go again!

I went here with my wife and we treated ourselves to a delicious meal! It was somewhat pricey but definitely worth it. The waitstaff was friendly and explained the specials and how to eat certain foods, but our waiter was a little overly pushy with foods, drinks, appetizers, desserts, etc. We were willing to try a lot of what he recommended and enjoyed his recommendations, but just wished he was a little less aggressive. My favorite small dish was the crispy pork belly and my favorite cut was the 10oz filet. It was very noisy and definitely a young group crowd, but the atmosphere itself was just a whole lot of fun (I loved the variable/unique chairs and tables, all different from the others). All in all, a terrific experience!

It was a great happy hour with half-price beers and raw bar items. great oysters and ceviches. A bit loud but energetic...if having a conversation, ask for table in back. Its just a curtain between bar and restaurant sections but distance helps with the noise. We drank and ate for hours and had a $100 tab for 3. wow!

We ate at The Gryphon on a Thursday evening. We asked for a quieter location based on previous review - and had not problems with this. We ordered oysters as an appetizer and small plates for our meals. Favorites included the lobster gnocchi and the short ribs. The only glitch was that our dinner came prior to our appetizer - which was disappointing. When I mentioned this to the server he apologized and even took the initiative to talk to the manager about the problem who came by, apologized, and took it off our tab. I really appreciated that. Overall, it was an enjoyable dinner and walking distance to other post-dinner fun in the DuPont Circle area.

Made reservations here for July 4th dinner not knowing what to expect. The menu concept was pretty cool, and we shared a cut, and a few small plates. Creative cocktails too. Bartender was a little moody, but then again, working on the 4th, I would be too. Overall great visit and will definitely return

Clearly a place and staff more focused on libations, dating couples, friends-out-for-dinner-before-hitting-the-club/bar scene, than on table service. That said the food was very well prepared and quite good... We just weren't in the right mood and weren't quite the right table for this kind of joint (two adults, two kids...12-14)... Definitely a more adult menu and flavor/ingredient profile... Wait staff was indifferent and not very good listeners...(maybe they were just getting psyched up for a long night and we were an early table) I'd go again...but with a purpose other than/different from the simple dinner we set out for.

I've done a number of the small plate restaurants in the city, Barcelona, 901, Recess, you name it. That being said this place takes "small plates" to another level. You would think, the owners of this restaurant group, with the likes of the Brixton and Lost Society under their belt would kind of have this down. WRONG. The portion size should be called a sampling menu. We have the short ribs, shrimp cocktail, salmon, and some other dishes. The shrimp cocktail is very flavorful and light. The wait staff, all seem inexperienced could use some tweeking. My waitress didn't know what a Manhattan was. She also had never heard of Makers Mark or Bulleit. I realized this after she brought my guest and myself an old fashioned instead.

A sports bar, which was what I was looking for. But it was way too loud due to volume on TVs, not the crowd. The service was not good. Waiter screwed up two orders despite asking about one to be sure. Even the selection of games on the screens wasn't good.

We arranged for dinner and specifically wanted to watch two different baseball games at the same time. Out table was ready right at our reservation time and was situated in in the middle of the room. We had excellent sight lines to the screens which were turned to the games we requested as soon as we were seated. The service was excellent and the staff was friendly and responsive. The food was surprisingly good for what we chose as a sports bar. The manger stopped by to ask how our meal was and when we expressed our surprise at the quality of the food he shared with us that they were specifically trying to address more discriminating diners. Excellent location at DuPont Circle great place to watch any game.

Our second time there was even better then the first. We were greeted by the manager who also showed us to our table. He was extremely nice and helpful when I asked about some of the menu items. Our server was also very friendly and professional. It was not overly crowded like our last visit which we were all very happy to see. The manager stopped by our table more then once to make sure the 3 of us were ok which went really well with my boss. He's a foodie and likes to nit pick sometimes. The Happy Hour specials are very lady friendly and the food dishes we great too.

Staff really super and our small plates and craft beers were first rate. Man, it was noisy. But we expected that--what else would I think? The atmosphere was sophisticated and lots of fun--screens EVERYWHERE. Really easy to track the games while socializing. Would go again.

The Gryphon is still very new and definitely has some kinks to work out. The food was fine for a bar, but The Gryphon needs to decide if it is going to be a sports bar or a dance club and not try to be both at the same time. By 9pm, the music was so loud that no one in my group could understand each other, even when shouting. And, the sound system is not high quality enough to play music well at such loud decibels, the speakers were practically screeching above us. The food was good for a bar, but that's definitely all this place is striving for, a bar with nicer food than the bars nearby.

This is the 2nd time I have been here, and the fact other employees contributed to the overall service speaks volumes. Some of the 4 and 5 star establishments can't match the level of service this place does, and there were at least 100 people there. Make a reservation ahead of time, all the tables were occupied or had reserved signs on it.

It's brand new, so there were some fits and starts in the service, but overall a very, very satisfying experience. The food was pretty good, if a bit overpriced for a sports bar. (If I'm drinking out of mason jars, the entrees shouldn't be $25.) Still, I'd give this place a go again.
