The GroveThe Grove-Downtown HoustonThe food is always great here. They have something for everyone, so nobody gets left out. The drinks are always good too.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGirls' night? Good spot. The Grove has a fun, urban, elegant and yet funky ambience that is well suited for a girls' night or group date. The cocktail menu is great, with different and interesting drinks...as is the dinner menu. My group raved over the Champagne Mango Cosmo and Berry Mojito. Then the wild mushroom Mac n Cheese. Other hits inc the shrimp and grits and the filet.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMthe bestI went with my husband for our 4th year anniversary and I have to say this restaurant was magical, romantic with great service and exceptional food, I truly recommend it and will definitely be coming back.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat AtmosphereThe Grove had a very nice atmosphere and was good for a girls dinner. The price is a little high for the portions but that's what you get when you go to nicer restaurants. I left feeling a bit hungry.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGraduation dinnerOutside seating allows you to listen to music I the park. Service was very good. Food was good but not great.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely place, creative tasty foodThe flattened chicken was delicious as was the salmon. The redfish needed a bit more cooking. The fried pickles were cooked a bit much. The service was outstanding as was the atmosphere!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Atmosphere and locationLove the open windows and view, lots going on around Discovery Green. The menu is excellent, great food and drinks. Fun.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThr Grove is a perfect placeThr Grove is a perfect place to take out of towners- it has good food and a great location. We went there for brunch with friends from the Valley. They raved about the ahi tuna and the beautiful view. The service was attentive and the setting is ideal. Aside from the amazing tuna, the rest of the food was very good but not incredible. Still, it's a place we love and we will go there frequently.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI thought service was mediocreI thought service was mediocre and the food was decent.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't missParty ordered several dishes, all were delicious. Great menu selections. Menu descriptions actually matched what we were served. Portions were sizeable and were a good value. Ambiance and atmosphere was superb. Open and spacious with calming views of outdoors, large oak trees. Waiter was so attentive that we initially felt a tiny bit rushed. After we explained that we planned to linger (we were there at 11:00am on a Saturday and it was not busy at all) he slowed down to our satisfaction. Plan to return to share with other friends within the next two weeks. Only drawback is that you have to pay to park.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!!We had a great time at The Grove last Saturday. I went with my friends to celebrate my graduation and it was excellent!! The food, service, ambience... It was what I expected :)5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFor the Younger GenerationsI had not been to the restaurant for a couple of years. Like most of Downtown Houston, the restaurant has become a place to go for those in there 20's and 30's (i.e., the music in the restaurant had more of a techno-beat feel to it). That said, the menu was thoughtful and original, and the food was quite good.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat DinnerWe enjoyed The Grove very much. The service was impeccable. Our server knew the menu and drink menu extremely well and was able to answer our questions and give us a quality dining experience.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBusiness LunchIt was a good place to take my clients as a thank you for their business and as a respite from convention hall food. The service was good but not especially friendly. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food. I understand the fillet was very good. I had the chicken cesar salad and the dressing lacked any real flavor but I used a little of the remoulade left over from the quail appetizer and I enjoyed the salad regardless, the lettuce was fresh and crispy.
Mona5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't think Mother's Day buffetsDon't think Mother's Day buffets show this restaurant in its best light. Price was great as compared to many others around town - but selection was not great - although the quality of the offering was excellent.Great location, of course - would definitely try it again.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVE this Restaurant!!!GREAT food, service & atmosphere! I had a wonderful Mother's Day dinner with my family. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. You can either dress up or dress sassy casual....5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFoodSome of the best food we have had in a long time, could not find fault in any dish. We will go back again and bring more people with us.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFood & ServiceThe Food here was amazing! Hot and flavorful. However the service lacked. This was my 1st time I will go back and see if maybe it was just an off day.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLong lastingWe were able to sit and visit with friends we have not seen in many, many years without feeling rushed to leave.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOn The GreenFor a special birthday we wanted a very nice dinner. We are middle aged and prefer a peaceful atmosphere. While the food and service were good at The Grove, the atmosphere was more casual & loud than we hoped for. This is by design since the bar area is open to the dining area. The tables are close together and there are no table cloths. The waitress was appropriately attentive. They didn't have the wine we wanted, so the waitress suggested another. She gave us a generous sample of that one which was in the same category. We didn't like that wine at all and were saved from a mistake. As a result, we found a wine that was pleasant enough. All in all, we were able to shut out the noise and enjoy ourselves.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVibrant Bar SceneVery loud and colorful bar scene, if you want to talk move to a table. Very live and fun atmosphere4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMMojitos ANDgreat food!!!!First off - their mojitos were simply perfect! The place was a typical 1/2 full+ crowd for a Tuesday night. I had a lovely musculin salad, then mac & cheese and steak. This mac & cheese is crazy delicious & with mushrooms! And the steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Though, I didn't need anything, I did feel a little under waited on. And I was surprised that I wasn't offered a wine list, my dinner waiter was only around to drop off food or the check. I was dining alone and maybe that had an impact. But like I said, I didn't need anything else, so I didn't go without anything. I would definitely go again and I REALLY loved that it was within walking distance from my or some other hotels: Embassy Suites, Four Seasons, Hilton downton.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMhad a good time on he patiohad a good time on he patio before dinner and then a very enjoyable dinner. Too bad they don't open up the upstairs patio anymore as it was a wonderful space.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA must when visiting Houston! The service is as expected but the food really exceeded my expectations! The Rotisserie potatoes are divine, the Quail was outstanding and the shrimp pasta not only al dente but really flavorful. My party also had filet mignon which in my book was exquisite!! Kudos to my waiter Luis and to the Grove for such an amazing dining experience!!!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat time celebrating withGreat time celebrating with friends before the big concert!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMNot great for early dinnerHad an early dinner (5:30 res) and there were lots of kids making noise and the restaraunt was pretty empty.
Would have liked the mood to be a little more mature considering the steak was over $40.00.
The food and service were great, just a little let down with the price/ambiance ratio.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFive of us enjoyed our dinnerFive of us enjoyed our dinner here at The Grove. Service was very good, as our water and wine glasses were never empty, and our coffee cups were always full until we departed The Grove satisfied diners.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waiter was very attentiveOur waiter was very attentive and shared informtion when we asked questions. His food/wine suggestions were good. We were staying at a close-by hotel so were in walking distance to the restaurant. It was also an opportunity to see Discovery Green when it was not crowded. We were suprised that on a Saturday night the restaurant was not more crowded, we really didn't need reservations.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first trip toThis was our first trip to Houston and we found the Grove as a matter of convenience. It was just across the street from our hotel, and we had a great view from our window looking down on the restaurant's garden. The restaurant was packed, but we arrived on time and were lead straight to our table.
Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. When quizzed on a particular drink (my dining companion wanted something sweet from the bar) he admitted he had never tried it, told us his favorite, and offered to get a sample of the drink in question from the bar.
The food was spot-on. We enjoyed every morsel from start to finish, including the heavenly lime dessert recommended by our server. Not only would we eat there again. We did. On Sun4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI have always wanted to comeI have always wanted to come to this restaurant but never had the time for it and now that I finally did all I gotta say is that this place is amazing! The environment, food everything was just a great experience!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe got a great table by theWe got a great table by the window and had a hard time making up our minds when choosing what to order. Everything sounded soooo good! Food was great although a little pricey. Unless you order their flank/skirt steak there was really no meat dish under $40. My husband really enjoyed the Seafood Linguini Puttanesca. Everyone loved the skewered TX Quail for appetizer! The kids ordered the special which was Wagyu Beef but it was chewy as there was a big tendon running through it. The view and the ambiance was great.Valet parking was $8 and they offered $15 parking until end of events, which was a nice perk for us as we were going to the Rockets game afterwards. Outdoor patio was closed although the weather was nice.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWay too loud. Couldn't converseWay too loud. Couldn't converse with a small group in a booth
Otherwise, very good.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe parchment fish specialThe parchment fish special is phenomenal! Definitely a loud and energetic restaurant so not ideal if you're looking for a quiet/romantic dining experience. Decent wine list, great bar scene. Outside tables are first come, first serve. We lucked out with a window table over looking the park. We'll be back!!!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAte at Grove before attendingAte at Grove before attending Eric Clapton concert. Good Food and Servcie. Great place for dinner before the show.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLittle loud for me. OtherLittle loud for me. Other than that it was an amazing dinner!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSeated immediately upon arrival.Seated immediately upon arrival. Nice table along the windows looking out over the park. Waiter was knowledgeable and professional but he could have come around a bit more. It may just be the relaxed atmosphere that lends itself to a slower pace. Had the sashimi and quail appitizers and both were outstanding. Entrees arriving in a timely manor - beef filet, fish in parchment and rotisserie chicken were all delicious. we had two desserts at our table - Neapolitan Mousse Cake and the Texas Pecan Brown Butter Cake. The mousse cake was frozen solid. we had to cut it with a knife - it was not a favorite but the Brown Butter Cake was amazing. We went back on night 2 (staying at embassey suites next door) for more brown butter cake.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious Food - Better than EverWe chose The Grove this particular evening because our dinner companion was staying at the Hilton Americas, and I knew that this would be a very short walk for him. We have been to the Grove on several occasions, and the food has always been decent, but the food we had on our most recent trip was particularly memorable. For the main course, I had the fish cooked in parchment paper and it was just spectacular. My husband also raved about his dinner, which was the swordfish. We had the lime tart for dessert (on our server's recommendation) and that was also quite special. I look forward to our next visit to The Grove and this time, we'll go because of the incredible food.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBack on our radarThree of us opted for seafood and the other a steak at this underrated spot on the edge of Downtown Houston's Discovery Green park. I had the cornmeal dusted redfish and loved it. I also appreciated the waiter making sure I was a brussels sprout fan as there are abundant on the plate. I am and so I found it to be a great dish. My wife had the ahi tuna over ginger cauliflower which also comes adorned with some shredded beef short ribs. Personally, we would have preferred the dish without the beef, but it still was delicious. Both the salmon and the ribeye were reported to have been tasty as well. The wine list is serviceable with some decent by the glass values which come with generous pours.1/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAn excellent lunch in an interestinAn excellent lunch in an interesting venue.
