Best Restaurants in Downtown Houston
My husband and I dined here in
order to see whether the space would be appropriate for hosting a large party in one of their separate event rooms. Our server, Rick, was very friendly, knowledgable and attentive. The esthetics of the place are lovely - clean lines, organic with a contemporary feel. The mojito I had was fresh and perfectly sweetened, and the meal was delicious (large portions!). We plan to have a party in their primavera room in a few weeks."

Only been to The Grove twice and
both times were great."

I made the reservation quickly on
Saturday morning for Saturday evening and my husband and couldn't have been more plesantly surprised. The ambiance was wonderful and food was delicious. We'll absolutely be back."

There was a concert going on at a
local venue and the emphasis was on serving those attending the concert. The room was deafening, couldn't hear across the table (not typical for this restaurant). The food and drinks, although they took a long time, were delightful; but the service was not up to their usual standard."

I've eaten at The Grove many times
and it's usually very good, so my expectations were probably too high. I had the $19 Lunch Special which is usually outstanding. It started off with an arugula salad which was okay. The main meal was a roast beef sandwich which had the worst cuts of beef. Arby's makes a better sandwich than this. It was made with a very unacceptable amount of gristle and was dried out even though they had tried to revive it by dipping it in something. Usually there is a creative vegetable or other side dish. This time it was just French fries. Fries? Come on, you can do better than that. The dessert was an unremarkable slice of blueberry topped cheesecake. Even though I shared it with my guest, there was plenty left over."

The view into the Discovery Green
park was absolutely gorgeous. The food was incredible (and extremely decent in price... almost a bargain.) The cocktails were perfect, and the starter of olives and roasted thyme almonds instead of bread was a treat. The restaurant itself is gorgeous with all the wood and eco-friendly materials. Service was stellar, as well. Will be going back often."

We absolutely love this
restaurant! It has to be one of the most beautiful restaurants in Houston, especially at night! The food was just as outstanding. My wife had the filet and indicated it was the most tender she had ever tasted. I had the pork chop and it was also the best I had ever tasted. We also tried the wonton dusted fried shimp and they were outstanding. Service was a bit slow at times but overall quite acceptable. Highly recommend this place especially at night for a romantic evening or special occasion with friends."

This a great spot for lunch during
the week, especially if you want to entertain clients. Thank you Grove for the great food, great service, and even greater atmosphere!"

The Grove is located in the heart
of downtown Houston with a wall full of windows overlooking local art work and a grassy area. My boyfriend and I went on a Monday night and the restaurant was fairly busy and quite noisy. This would be a great place for a double date but is not what I would consider an intimate setting for a romantic date. The food was delicious and everything tasted very fresh. The wine list was full of great choices and our waiter was very attentive to our needs. I would definitely recommend this place for a night out on the town or for dinner with friends."

We celebrate my 50th birthday at
The Grove, and had a fantastic time."
Dined on 6/20/2014
Nice ambience but that's what your
paying for, and all it has going for it. The food was very below mediocre and the service below even that. I left feeling duped, irritated, and a waste of money."

We spent the week in Houston on
business, and ate at several restaurants in and around the Hilton and convention center. This was the best prepared food. The service was great, attentive but not obtrusive. I ad seafood, and it was well prepared, not overdone, just right. The appetizers were excellent; we had the tuna sashimi. The accompanying veggies were crisp and flavorful. My house salad was crisp and flavorful with a wonderful house dressing, light but flavorful. I would suggest those in the area give this place a try."

Once in a while, The Grove does a
lunch special where for one price you get a salad, main course, and dessert. They're always good, but this time the chef out-did himself. The salad: thinly sliced radishes, mild red onions, goat cheese, nuts, and get this… peaches. Sounds bad? Wrong! One of the most creative salads I've ever had. This should be added to the menu. The main course was grilled chicken breasts with green curry sauce, roasted spicy potatoes, and perfectly flavored quinoa. It’s a good thing, we had our own desserts because the great taste did not encourage sharing. A very tart lemon pie with a dollop of whipped cream and a crust that held together to the end. For any foodie, a business lunch does not come any better than this."

With all the options downtown this
place is a nice "get away from downtown" venue. The lunch special was wonderfully orchestrated. The right amount of food and tastes that were varied and complex. One flaw was the salmon salad. While cooked to order, the dish was just not that good. The service was passable though I did have to search for our waiter more then once. I will return for the food and views, after I try a few other downtown hot spots."

Service was good, but don't think
I should have to ask multiple people for dark linens. Additionally, the middle doors in the restaurant need to be for emergency use only. People were entering and exiting the restaurant at will while we were seated directly adjacent to the door. The heat, flies, and other elements were exposed each time the door opened. The north most door to the outside should be used for people traffic. Too many flies and the heat come in when the doors are open. We were sat right next to the door and it really detracted from the dining experience. Didn't help that the server didn't bring dark linens when he noticed we are wearing dark clothing. Food was ok. No dressing needed on salmon salad. Good all by itself."
Dined on 6/15/2014
Wine and food were better than
average. Wine was truly outstanding and very enjoyable. My wife and I were well pleased with the atmosphere. The outside trees made the meal really relaxing and beautified the restaurant. The noise level from outside the restaurant was non existent. The only negative is a lost wallet was fraudulently used."

We have celebrated engagement and
wedding anniversaries at the Grove. It is spacious and overlooks beautiful oak trees in Discovery Green. Our server was Jared. He helped make our evening enjoyable with great menu recommendations and superior table service. You must try their fish of the day baked/steamed in parchment! Also, the peach desert (very wonderful fancy cobbler-like) with Mexican vanilla ice cream is wonderful. Thank you to The Grove for a wonderful meal and evening!"
Dined on 6/12/2014
This is a good, fairly quick lunch
spot. You may need to remind the wait staff occasionally. Food is good and sometimes very good. Prices are a bit high for what is on offer."
Dined on 6/12/2014
This once adventuresome restaurant
that served excellent food with excellent service has changed and not for the better. First, I think a new chef is in order and staff training would be next."

Very friendly hostess with a
smile! Staff and food is great! "

Having been to The Grove before,
I took some friends for brunch and conversation after church on Sunday... What a great choice!! My friends enjoyed the food and atmosphere immensely. We all will be back.. "

We had a group dinner to welcome a
friend back to Houston and chose The Grove for the occasion. On one side of the restaurant, the floor to ceiling windows gave a great view to the Discovery Green park. On the other side of the restaurant, the open view of the kitchen is great to see where your food is coming from. The ambiance was cool and chill. The quality of the food was great. Definitely recommend this place for a very nice dinner with friends. "

Good location and ambiance but
food uneven and disappointing despite some very good dishes. Very noisy and busy to the point of distraction. Overall a disappointment and will not return "

I do like that it's in Discovery
Green. My family and I thought it was good. We had a great waiter. The dessert list was odd. We went there for my High School Graduation lunch and it was an enjoyable experience."

It was simply amazing how well
they treated me and my date. Awesome first date!"
Dined on 5/23/2014
I went to The Grove with a group
of 4. We all ordered separate entrees and all were very poor quality. I had a chicken breast that had been flattened as if to make a schnitzel; it was then grilled on what tasted to be a filthy grill; the outcome was chicken that tasted like a burned grate and had the texture of shoe leather. My husband ordered ahi tuna. What should have been a glowing pink was a nasty gray that smelled too strongly. The couple with us had similar experiences with a pasta entree and a rib entree. At $10 for 1/4c, cocktails at the grove aren't a good choice either. The patio was nice but there was absolutely nothing else to recommend this restaurant. "
Dined on 5/23/2014
I had a salad as my main course.
Either with salmon or chicken, the salads at The Grove make a filling meal. The tables were full because of a conference in town, but Madeline accommodated me immediately."
Dined on 5/21/2014
Restaurant and server were nice.
Little loud occasionally in that it was difficult to hear our server. Food was hit and miss. Hanger steak was delicious and well prepared, worth the price. The rotisserie chicken was dry and flavorless. Store bought versions are better, are $10 cheaper, and feed a family. Overall menu was a bit pricey especially if only half the food is good. "
Dined on 5/16/2014
The Grove is a great spot for
lunch since it is next to Discovery Green."

Party of 4 ate at The Grove prior
to attending the Astros game, so we didn't have much time to waste. Wait staff was very prompt and attentive to ensure we were on time."
Dined on 5/13/2014
Great food and fast service. Good
for lunch with business associates. "
Dined on 5/12/2014
Won't do it again. Costs too much
and wasn't very good."
Dined on 5/11/2014
The restaurant was so beautiful
but the service can really make or break an experience. After we got seated, our waiter came by and dropped off the wine menu and then did not return for about another 20 minutes. He was inattentive the entire time, never cracked a smile and seemed to be in a rush. I ordered the gulf shrimp and crab salad which was okay. My boyfriend ordered the flattened chicken breast which tasted really bland. The drinks however, tasted really tasty. We decided to order more drinks at the bar since we didn't want to tip the waiter more than it was necessary. All in all, waiter sucked, food was sub par and only things on point were the drinks and ambiance. "
Dined on 5/10/2014
My wife and I frequent this spot
when we have a special occasion or a show/play downtown we are going to later. The service is always great and the food is better than the price would suggest. My only complaint is the last two times I have visited, my filet has been undercooked. The first time it was undercooked, it took 10-15mins to get the steak back and was severely overcooked and dry. This time, it only took a few minutes and was cooked near perfection. I think I will just choose a different item next time."
Dined on 5/9/2014
I visit The Grove a lot, but I
hadn't had one of their hamburgers in a long time because their other food is so good. So I ordered The Grove Burger and was reminded what a GREAT hamburger it is. No other restaurant or burger joint combines such a perfect mélange of ingredients like smoked provolone cheese, grilled pablano chile, thick cut crispy bacon, sweet red onions and fresh avocado. They bring you the usual trio of condiments so you can custom make your burger. I substituted their chips for fries and ordered some fried pickles for appetizers and I was done. The other people at my table also ordered burgers and liked them. Service was great. Even though the place was crowded, we could still carry on a conversation without a struggle. "

reservation 2 months in advance to my girlfriends bday made special request and the bring her a cake with a candle and a happy bday sign . Kudos!!!!"

Our food was spectacular, our
service was decidedly uninspired, the facilitity was beautiful & the view was great. "

I eat here often and always enjoy
the food, the ambience and the service. I had a friend in from out of town and she really enjoyed the food. It's a new fave for her. "
Dined on 4/23/2014
Made a reservation for dinner
before a Rockets playoff game and it was really loud. The bar was full and the adjacent dining room as well. Food and service were good but we had a hard time talking. Should be better on a regular night."
Dined on 4/23/2014
Great spot for Easter Brunch. The
Salad Bar was extensive and had tons of healthy choices, while the entrees were something to indulge in. I had the Burnt Ends Benedict which was wonderful. Don't miss the Mixed Berries Cobbler, which was incredible!"
