The GroceryThe Grocery exceed our expectationsThe Grocery exceed our expectations and we were already discussing a return trip before we'd even left. Everything we tried was excellent. We enjoyed the crispy pimento cheese snack while deciding on bites and plates. Along with our entrees, everyone loved the shared cauliflower casserole and wood fired broccoli sides.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst Time diners...The feel of the place is great...very open and spacious with great lighting. The food was excellent along with the service. I would try eating at the food bar the next time I go. Highly recommended.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely EveningWe spent a lovely evening at the Grocery. We had small plates that we shared. It was a very creative menue. The food was excellent.
Look forward to returning and the service was very attentive.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceThe Grocery is a wonderful place to eat. I have been there for dinner before, but now have tried their brunch. It was simply divine.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMRelaxed, upscale, and great staffWe had a late lunch and decided on piecing together the small portions. The food was all cooked really well. The carrot dish was outstanding. Dessert was worth the order. My water glass was never even close to empty, the entire staff was friendly. The house made charcuterie (piggy plate) was very tasty and the bread was from a local bakery and tasted amazing!. We would go back very often if we didn't live 1000 miles away!! Also, we were there the night of cofc graduation (and night before Mother's Day) and our table was spacious, the dining room was full by about 6 pm but the noise level never got too high, we never felt rushed or neglected!! It's a top recommendation from me!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMthe menu format allowed ourthe menu format allowed our party of four to sample many items without overeating. The food was outstanding in taste and presentation, without exception. Service was excellent. I would certainly rate The Grocery near the top of the list in this very competitive culinary environment.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous!Read about The Grocery in The New York Times Magazine--sounded fabulous--WAS!
My companion and I waited only briefly & seated at a lovely table near the window. The server was meticulous in preparation of the presentation of the tablescape. Ambiance romantic & edgy. The different sizes of plates (bites, small, entrees, table and side) gave us plenty of choices.
Started off with fried pimento cheese bites-- Southern/crunchy/melty. Moving on to fresh farm bread, duck confit with pickled cauliflower, an entree of Grouper over polenta and a leek side salad. Every dish prepared perfectly--a foodie's dream.
Champagne and decadent desserts in the convivial bar with family. One of best restaurants ever eaten in Including Paris!
Will return!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMno regretsOur first dinner in Charleston and the Grocery delivers!
Our appetizers: clams and sweetbreads are tasty.
Main courses like lamb shoulder and scallops
are divine.
Our waitress is attentive, warm and knowledgeble.
Love this Restaurant and I love to recommend this to
the other foodies.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMTHIS is how it is done!If you want to make a mark in a city with as many great restaurants as Charleston, you have to be exceptional. That is exactly what The Grocery is - exceptional! The food was absolutely delicious, the service was almost impeccable(only erring on the side of over-serving slightly) and the setting and decor are very cool. It's a little loud because it's essentially one big open room with an open kitchen but you won't notice because you will be immersed in the food.
Don't walk, RUN!!!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMTucked Away TreasureBeautiful decor with fabulous food and great service... Can't ask for more! But there is more...unique menu set up and unique cocktail choices. Lovely neighborhood restaurant. Must put on your list of Charleston restaurants to try.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWill definitely recommend!I was just in town for a weekend but heard of this place through a magazine article. Really great spot, delicious food. We went for brunch on Sunday so it was full but fairly quiet. I imagine this place is really buzzing in the evenings. Will definitely recommend to friends and will go back next time I'm in town!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great! Our dinner was amazing! The Bone Marrow custard was a treat and the Scallops were some of the best I have ever had. I highly recommend it!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHave a pickle!Local foods and ingredients are the theme. The pickle plate with butter pickles, pickled green tomatoes, okra, and broccoli made us pleasantly pucker up. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the far-apart-on-your-plate short ribs; best ribs in town. Everything on our table was tip-top, the only thing that would've made it better is if perhaps there was a little less black pepper on the cauliflower casserole, but even that was delish. We'll be back!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time visitOutstanding experience. Service, food & ambience were wonderful. Great addition to the Charleston scene5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGirl's Night OutFive of us planned ahead and made reservations to try The Grocery after going to the art gallery walk. It was busy and stayed that way so reservations are a good idea. The food was delicious, the service prompt and efficient, and we had a great booth area that was great. All of us were very pleased with our selections and I will definitely put it on my list of places to dine in again.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable ExperienceThe Grocery was our special family dinner out during our visit to Charleston for a wedding. The menu was small but creative, and gave my teenage kids a chance to be adventurous and try some different things. The service was well-paced and professional. We had a memorable evening, and everyone enjoyed their meals immensely.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and great useExcellent food and great use of local ingredients. Portions do seem a bit small for the price. Great staff!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Grocery is a great findThe Grocery is a great find a bit off the tourist-beaten path. Fantastic array of small plates, and the bone marrow custard is a must-try.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food!Excellent food. The appetizers were creative and outstanding. Everyone in my party loved their meals. I would definitely recommend The Grocery to anyone who lives in or visits Charleston.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe complete packageVisiting during soft shell crab season led to that entree choice, and it was excellent. But the star of the show was the wood-roasted clams appetizer for me and the crunchy pimiento cheese nuggets for my wife. Her braised short ribs were perfect. We shared a side of spring onions with our entrees, and they blended perfectly on our plates Cozy but not noisy, with impeccable service and attitude. Nice touch to have bread served by the slice from a basket that never emptied. Best dining experience of our week's visit!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved the atmosphere atI loved the atmosphere at The Grocery. However, I must admit that I was a little disappointed in the food. The locally brewed 'rye' beer was outstanding and the Duck Confit was very good. The soft shell crab entree was good but not any better than any other soft shell crab dish I've had. Also, I respect the use of seasonal vegetables but all the dishes we ordered had asparagus and radishes. That was a little bizarre. Actually, my favorite dish was the cauliflour side.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe chef clearly cares. ThisThe chef clearly cares. This is the best meal out I've had in a long time. Excellent food, well thought out taste combinations. A real treat4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a reservation whichWe had a reservation which they were 30 minutes late seating us but once seated the service was great and efficient which helped with the delay of actually getting to the table. A photo shoot for diners was being done in the bar area which was probably a poor choice to conduct on a busy Saturday night. Food was very good and the staff was knowledgeable. I would go again.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Dining ExperienceA great dining experience. Food was outstanding, with great attention to detail. Outstanding churro dipped in caramel for dessert.

"Special features" checked above reflected brunch only. A+++++4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA totally fulfilling SundayA totally fulfilling Sunday brunch.
Featured cocktails made with house-infused spirits are well worth the $2 premium. I wasn't feeling duck or quail for brunch, but am eager to return to explore the menu further. Off-street parking is available which is a major convenience.
Our green eggs and ham & poached eggs, chorizo and salsa verde hit the spot perfectly, with the standout being the green eggs: dredged in spices after poaching and flash fried to create a little bit of crunch -- delicious.
All aspects of the experience were enjoyable, and we did not hesitate when offered a dessert of churros with chocolate, vanilla cream and salted caramel sauces. The churros were some of the best I've had and the caramel we finished with our fi4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this place! Great atmosphere,Love this place! Great atmosphere, service and food. Hard to beat!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had relatives in town whoWe had relatives in town who wanted to try this restaurant after overhearing people recommending it on the flight into Charleston. I was embarrassed to admit I had never heard of The Grocery. I’m really glad I didn’t overrule them and go to another restaurant I was familiar with. The service, food, and beverages were spectacular. Total bill for 2 was $175, which included appetizers, good bottle of wine, entrees and dessert. It was a great night. Can't wait to go there again!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed our dinner. We really enjoyed our dinner. Everything was delicious and melted in our mouths. Server was extremely knowledgable on the food, preparation and recommendations. Great evening and very pleasurable.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and food service excellentFriday night april 5 th. 8:15 pm reservations. busy weekend for Charlestown. The grocery eating portion was moderately busy, the bar was not busy. Sat at round table in the bar for 20 min. because we arrived early. Two female bartenders waited on people at the tall long table at the bar that came in well after us but never greeted us nor offered a a drink. They did stand around and chit chat w each other.
Seated on time for dinner and sara waited on us. She was friendly, energetic and provided excellent service, as well as an excellent wine recommendation. We had an asparagus, potato ham appetizer, a chick pea salad and a pressed lamb loin. All Excellent.
I will give you a five when the two bartenders do their jobs.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI love The Grocery. I hadI love The Grocery. I had been for brunch and again during restaurant week but this was my first "normal" dining experience. It was fabulous. Our waitress was very knowledgable and did not lead us astray on anything that we ordered. All of the food was great and we really enjoyed the atmosphere. I recommend the short ribs! The kitchen did an admirable job of staying in season at a difficult time of the year. Every dish was flawlessly executed, and the service complimented it perfectly.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was great. I love the seasonalIt was great. I love the seasonal menu. My only complaint was that we waited an hour even with our reservation!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Grocery was overall anThe Grocery was overall an excellent choice for our dinner...however we never were offered bread and the portions were just a little on the small side...4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMInventive Chef, Excellent ExecutionThis was my third visit to this restaurant. The chef keeps the menu inventive with different preparations of the same ingredients: beef, duck, etc. Some of the entrees are lesser cuts of meat or not well-known fish, but the flavors and sauces are excellent. The prices, although not inexpensive, are not what a top quality cut of meat or widely recognized fish would command. I would recommend The Grocery to diners who are seeking a much better than average dining experience while spending a reasonable amount.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to The Grocery forWe went to The Grocery for Easter Brunch. Our food was fantastic and memorable. We had a great experience and the staff very friendly, professional and accomidating. My son is severely lactose intolerant and dining out is always a risk. Our server put a dairy alert on his order, I can honestly say it was the best meal he's had in ages! Thank you!!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a treat! My scallopsWhat a treat! My scallops were the best and my husband's bacon-wrapped duck breast was outstanding. My son and his girlfriend are graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. We were all extremely impressed with the quality, taste and presentation of the food.
