We were not celebrating a special occasion, although, it would be ideal for one. The live music coming from the Polo Lounge was an added luxury, and we enjoyed our unrushed, delicious meal. However, the prices at the Grill Room are absurd. As locals who dine fairly regularly, we are not disinclined to spend money on food and wine. The Grill Room's prices (we spent $600 pre-tip for dinner for 4) make dining there completely impractical - especially in a city where food options are prolific. I was disappointed to see so few diners enjoying a Saturday night there, but when I got the check, I could see why. We could eat twice at Herbsaint for the cost of one meal at the Grill Room.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI expected the dress couldI expected the dress could would have been a little on the strict side, I had a suit and my wife had a dress but seeing a guy sitting at table next to us wearing shorts was tacky I felt. They had live jazz band that night. The service was fabulous which helped make the evening all that more enjoyable. They added a special touch by having a birthday card personally signed by the staff of The Grill Restaurant.
I would recomment this to anyone-especially for celebrating a special event.
The one recommendation I would make is if there is a live band-ask to be seated away from the band. You will still hear the band but you will be able to talk to the people sitting at your table. We were seated right by the band and the only time we could talk amongst our table was when the band was on break.

I have only one negative to offer since all other aspects of this terrific restaurant remain excellent. We found the menu offered so few choices, that we had to order starters/entrees that we might have passed up. For example - there were only three meat and three fish entrees - hope you like one of them! I had the tasting menu and enjoyed every course. My dining partner also thought the food was the best we had in New Orleans. Naturally I was looking forward to dining there. However, my past experience was not good.
My salad (one hour egg Caesar) and main course (flounder) didn't make the grade. I could not finish either and hardly touched my salad. Neither dish came together in taste or texture. I love good food. My granddaughters ordered filets--they enjoyed theirs. The atmosphere is lovely, the service is excellent. From the valets to the Grill Room host, to the wait staff and manager, everyone went out of their way to be warm and welcoming. The menu, while shorter than I expected, had some very good selections on it, and our party of six all enjoyed our entrees and dessert. The band was also very appropriate for the occasion, with the upright bass player receiving several compliments. Overall I would highly recommend the Grill Room for a special occasion.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful.Dining here for and early lunch before my flight was a most enjoyable experience. The Jumbo Lump Crab Cake was so good. I order the Gulf Fish BLT with Brioche, Creole Aioli, Bacon, Fried Green Tomatoes, Bibb Lettuce, Chips and I was the envy of everyone sitting near by as all they were offered were miniature pretzels. Adam and Ryan were awesome servers. The only draw back was being seating at a booth near the serving prep station. I don't want to here clanging cups, dishes and silverware when I'm dining at at a restaurant. Never the less Helen was a good hostess.1/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
