The Grill on the Alley Westlake is located at The Promenade at Westlake, a Mediterranean-styled outdoor shopping and entertainment center featuring some of the most well respected merchants in the world, including Sur La Table, Barnes & Noble, m. Frederic, Restoration Hardware and Bristol Farms. Curbside take-out service is available.The Grill on the Alley was opened in 1984 as a living tribute to the great American grills of yesterday. In time, it has established itself as one of the country's leading restaurants, praised by writers across the country. The menu is classic American grill - prime steaks, fresh seafood, traditional dishes such as chicken pot pie or meatloaf and mashed potatoes, and homemade desserts.   • "New managers seem perfunctory in style and attitude. Menu prices have increased. Quality of beef decreased. Salad wilty. In the old days, complimentary roasted peppers and bread were served to each table quickly. Now, bread is only served if you ask for it. Wine glasses use to be so clean, they shined, no spots. Now, glasses were water streaked, spotty and looked dirty. These details should be MORE IMPORTANT now that they are charging higher prices for lesser quality. Not a place we will frequent as often as in the past. Better steakhouses and restaurants in the area. If they can't offer sparkling glasses, then they should not price their wine so high either. Sadly, unimpressed with the changes over time here."

  • "We frequent the Grill about once a week. It is always a great experience and we can count on consistency from the reservation to the staff to the food. However this past visit we had a server named Victoria. She was dry, and very matter of fact. She had no personality and did not even know the name of her General manager when asked. She did not want to be there. When she told us she was getting off the clock and that we were being transferred to her back up Jennifer, we could not have been happier. As far as i am concerned, Jennifer should be the server, and Victoria should bus the tables."

  • "Every guest is treated as a King or Queen. The service is outstanding and the staff caters to the diner's every need. The food is delicious and prepared with a terrific presentation. A great selection of different types of food. Jay, the outstanding general manager, and his staff are to be commended for making you want to return again, and again, and again. Brunch, Lunch, or Dinner - indoor or on the dining patio - is not to be missed."

  • "This restaurant has raised their prices to a level where it's no longer worth it. Steaks at $55 don't include anything but the chunk of meat. A cow is a cow folks...go down the street to Corrigan's...you'll get a much better steak for a little more than half the price of the Grill. The Grill is loud. Service is in continual "up sell" mode - so very very annoying. Service was prompt and professional otherwise. Food was dry. Sides are expensive. It's a nice restaurant and they have plenty of people who are more than happy to go there...I used to be one of them...but they're not worth it anymore. Sage Room in Malibu, Kanda Sushi in Thousand Oaks, and Mastro's in TO are much better."

  • "This is not the same place we have been raving about and going to for years! This WAS our favorite restaurant. The overall quality, class and attention to detail is spiraling. Our last 2 experiences were sequentially very disappointing , followed by deflated. Our waitress last night kept trying to up-sell us on everything, not typical, not pleasant. When we asked for our favorite bottle of wine, she suggested another. I asked her to describe the difference. She just said it was "more expensive"! , WHAT? It seems the staff training has switched course, is one of desperation and lower standards. Don't know if it is coincidence; but Jay, the manager, has been absent. At these prices, you guys are losing loyal customers."

The only teeny thing that could have been better was the timing of our food. It took quite some time for our main courses to arrive after our salads/appetizers. But, they were extremely busy...so perhaps that was the reason. Regardless, we will be back again and again!"

  • "We've been going to The Grill for years and it is always excellent...and after Saturday night we feel it is somehow even better! Started with the oysters, which were fabulous, followed by delicious Ahi steak. I wasn't excited about the mango salsa, however it was a great compliment. Even the broccolini was incredible. My husband said his liver with onions and bacon was delicious and cooked perfectly. Service was superb."

My husband and I both had the petite filet mignon and split a baked potato, but the side vegetable choices were broccoli~tini ((I know this is not spelled correctly) or creamed spinach. The broccoli~tini was very unappetizing and the dinner as a whole was bland. The steak did not have much flavor and was not served hot. We were with two other couples and they felt the same way about their meals. My friend ordered the chicken piccata and it also came with the broccoli~tini but nothing else. It looked lost sitting there on that large plate. For the price, we expected a little better. I wish I could give this restaurant a great review, but we left disappointed."

The salads were refreshing, the steaks were tasty and cooked to perfection, the sauteed mushrooms were excellent and the dessert (berry cobbler is a great way to cap it off. I don't recommend the broccolini, tasted like lighter fluid (strange flavor). A comfortable dining room and the service was well-timed and professional. I definitely would return, but will have to save up ($$$) due to the high cost (2 drinks, 2 steaks, 1 one side and 1 dessert, $200+. Pricey!"

  • "Slow service (rez at 7, no appys, dinner arrived 8, out by 9:30). They forgot to pack 2 of our 5 dishes that we asked to have wrapped up to take home - practically a full risotto (only had 2 spoonfuls of my $13 risotto) and leftover half of my moms shrimp pomodoro - we were both looking forward to next day. The only 2 things actually wanted didn't get packed up. The 3 things that did - mashed potatoes, b sprouts, and short ribs. I thought it odd all that food fit in one paper bag I didn't think I would need to check. 2 people, $120 + $20 tip and we get home 11pm realized we had been shorted. I've been there several times not spectacular. Took mom there for her bday. I don't think I will go back with so many other restaurants in Westlake."

  • "Valentine's Day nightmare. Food took 45 minutes. The top and bottom of my filet was burnt and charred--I'm sorry but if I'm paying over $50 for a steak, then I expect perfection! Manager was not very helpful. Overall really bad experience."
