The Grill on the Alley - San JoseMy long time favoriteAlways a pleasure to dine here. The finest of food always prepared satisfying the highest expectations. Parking is about the only downside issue . . . Staff are always friendly and professional -- they know how to ensure they facilitate your dining experience. Selection or variety of food makes it so anybody can find a favorite, especially those dishes they never get at home!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGrill on the AlleyAwesome experience. We are never disappointed when we dine here. It's pricey but well worth it. The steaks are phenomenal and the service is the absure best you will find anywhere.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointsThis has been a favorite spot to come back to on that special occasion. As usual it NEVER DISAPPOINTS us and we will continue to return on that special occasion6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food...excellent service.Great food...excellent service. We were celebrating a wedding anniversary and it was a lovely place to celebrate.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorites.I come regularly to this restaurant and always have a positive experience. The food is delicious and the service is friendly and expert.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMthe Vegetarian at the Steak Housenotable wine menu gets me there, but what has me coming back is the staff, especially the Manager, Philippe. My friend had the chicken and the Grill made me a delicious pasta dish with seasonable vegetables.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMNice ExperienceI received a gift certificate for the restaurant and we decided to use it on my birthday. Had never eaten there and had an overall very nice dinner - nice ambience and very good food -- BUT expensive, so would only go there for a special occasion. We shared a crab cake appetizer which had a delicious sauce, shared the mixed greens salad which was excellent (really good dressing). I had the petite filet mignon with bordelaise - very flavorfull, tender and cooked to perfection and the sauce was wonderful but would have liked a little more of it. My husband had the special - Chilean sea bass with pinapple-mango sauce and he loved it. The servers were friendly and attentive.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for special eventI took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner. The Grill has a great menu selection and wine list! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to take someone here for an anniversary dinner or other special occasion with a significant other. Nice ambiance, dimly lit, and pretty quiet, too.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service, elegant feelA few friends joined me here for a pre-theatre dinner. The service was perfect".not rushed but very attentive. I started with a Lemon Drop cocktail that was lovely. Crab cakes, ahi tuna and salads were selected, and we finished with the peach cobbler. I recommend saving room AND sharing that dessert. The portions were generous!
Will definitely go back. It is one of the few places I've eaten lately where the music or the room wasn't irritatingly loud. It was actually peaceful and quiet!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMNice to be able to split aNice to be able to split a large Sunday prime rib dinner, as it was plenty for two people.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGrilling in the Alley?I doubt that the steaks are actually grilled in the alley :),, but the food here is just about the best I've ever eaten. And I've eaten a lot of places. Characteristic of typical steakhouses, they give you way too much food. So take it home. The steak was done exactly the way I asked for it and the flavor was incredible. I recommend the filet Oscar.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways excellentFood was excellent, service was perfect, and a nice place to dine out...5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch is betterWe had high expectations since we had been to brunch and lunch at the Grill before. Dinner was good, but didn't really live up to what you would expect from a high end restaraunt. The calimari was good, but not exciting. The filet was cooked well but our orders were reversed so the wrong person got the medium filet and the wrong person got the rare filet. We asked for a little extra bernaise sauce and it was luke warm at best. Also the bar drinks had to be sent back or altered several times. The wine was very good as was the ambience.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic restaurant - yes it'sClassic restaurant - yes it's expensive but the food is very good, the service outstanding and the atmosphere is what you'd expect of a high end steak/chop house. I am never disappointed and enjoy coming here.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Steak HouseThe 30oz Tomahawk bone in rib-eye is great, Tender, juicy and really flavorful. It was cooked perfectly, medium rare on the rarer side. Easy to split with your companion. Great food, service and location.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for a nice anniversaryWent for a nice anniversary dinner and The Grill did not disappoint. Excellent dry Martini that was accompanied by warm sourdough and assorted pickled peppers and vegetable sticks. Local Miyagi oysters were excellent and the Filet Mignon Oscar was outstanding with perfectly done 8 oz. filet mignon, crisp asparagus, lump crab meat and bearnaise sauce. A large pile of rich mashed potatoes filled any empty spots in my stomach. Grand Marnier souffle topped off the delicious meal. Service was prompt and cheerful. Surroundings are black and white and clean and sparkling. Worth every penny for a special night.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMsad miyagi oystersWe made reservations prior to a show at the cmt. Food came out fast and service was great. The happy hour scene is pretty nice too. The oysters though tasted a little pre shucked. They were good but should have not stuck to the shell. Overall everything was great... I just have issues with oysters that are a little too dry and had no natural salt water. It was busy... so the kitchen might have been busy.
The happy hour food is always tasty and worth hanging out in the bar. The service is always great... just skip the oysters.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI ate here alone the otherI ate here alone the other night when I was in town on business. This restaurant was an unexpected gem! The service was outstanding -- courteous and friendly. The food was amazing, and they enthusiastically complied with some special requests. Great wine list. So unusual to have a world-class restaurant in a hotel! I will be back.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMRun don't walk! Best in town!!Absolutely consistently wonderful! A best bet for a romantic evening for two or a vibrant group of ten!! The best melt in your mouth steak cooked to perfection and elegantly presented. Go go go4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent and serviceFood was excellent and service was flawless.
Would definitely come back.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGET THE SPECIALS! Steak wasGET THE SPECIALS! Steak was fantastic. My wife was not thrilled with their plank salmon but she strayed from our "always get the house specials" mantra. They are house specials for a reason, they know they do it well. Dessert was excellent.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHad another great meal. WentHad another great meal. Went in a around 5:30 for an early dinner on a Saturday. When we arrived it was fairly empty of patrons. The receptionist said we had a five minute wait for a table. She later said they didn't have enough servers. Why would they book reservations without enough HELP? After we were seated the server was very good. The meal was outstanding and it was a nice early dinner. We tried a new side dish this visit. The mac and cheese is outstanding and decadent. Everyone should give it a try.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMIn my opinion, the best steakhouseIn my opinion, the best steakhouse in the US. The Tomahawk Chop is a fabulous ribeye, done just right. For dessert, the souffle is always a big hit. Service is outstanding, esp taking great care of the food for our kids, whom have severe food allergies.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for Pre TheatreA friend and I went before gonig to see a musical. By having a reservation we were seated right away. Our waiter was not only friendly, but mindful of the clock since we had tickets and needed to leave at a certain time. Would love to go back there without worrying about the time.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Grill was absolutely awesome. The Grill was absolutely awesome. The lobster bisque was delicious. Wonderful attentive interested service.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMNice steakhouse. Food wasNice steakhouse. Food was very good. Great for a special occasion and you dont want tiny portions.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent and serviceFood was excellent and service was absolutely TOP NOTCH! Very professional and friendly wait staff. I'm not much for writing reviews but I can say we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our service. Great "special occasion" place as it is a little pricey, but you definitely get what you paid for.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, great serviceGreat food, great service and nice decor. Formal, upscale restaurant with food and service to match. I have used it for business lunches and dinner and it is perfect for this. Also suitable for romantic evening meal.2/27/2013 12:00:00 AMsteak was just excellent, steak was just excellent, if expensive. service was not up to par for expectations nor price point. insincerity and lack of listening. slow to refill drink. waiter actually said 'management wants me to do this first' after i asked him to stop cleaning crumbs and process my credit card so we could head out to sacramento. unacceptable mistake. again, great steaks though.2/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFairmount Christmas GiftExceptional service and food. We went for their 3-course Christmas dinner. Service was fantastic and we were totally pampered. The wine list was endless and the stewart recomended a wonderfull Pino for only sixty bucks a bottle. The food was awesome and there was no sense of mass production that can creap into holiday fixted menu meals.12/25/2012 12:00:00 AM
