I entertained clients there. Two of us had the petite New York steak, one with blue-cheese crust; the other with Parmesan. One of the ladies had the whitefish, the other had the salmon. All of us enjoyed our meals, and the service was excellent

We eat here every time we're in Chicago. It's our favorite restaurant. Very quiet & classy, service is always wonderful and food never disappoints. I ordered the petite filet, which was very flavorful even without a sauce or topping. My husband had the whitefish which had a very light lemony sauce - terrific! We will keep coming back.

If you don't have a lot of time and are looking for a convenient location near the Westin on Michigan, this is a good spot. The service was great, but the food was just so-so and was rather high priced. They do have pleasant side-walk dining area if you are just in the mood for people watching and a drink, though.

I have been to the Grill on the Alley a couple of times for business and pleasure. I have to say that every time the food is consistently great. The service has always been friendly and attentive and this time was no different. In fact our server, Allison, was wonderful. We enjoyed some great drinks as well while enjoying our meal. Look forward to next time I visit Chicago.

Looked for not too expensive bite to eat. Read reviews on OpenTable.com, booked thereafter. When showed up @ the place was shocked how different prices are. It was not $$ but $$$$ price range. We were seated, offered the menu which differs from menu prices upfront. I was uncomfortable, feeling tricked. After conveying concerns to waiter, he insisted the menu upfront was just for the bar although it was not that clear. We were ready to walk out, only after that he offered to check whether kitchen would prepare food we wanted of front door menu. Even though our waiter was polite enough but we felt being judged for rather limited order. I am not sure who submits the info for price rating but would be nice it it is more accurate.

Excellent food and service, as always. They accommodated our requests for our favorite menu selections, in spite of the fact that they have streamlined their menu, leaving higher priced items and removing even their fabulous basic burger with the option being a Kobe burger, fatter to consume and pay for. Will this remain be a neighborhood gem when the competition in the area is so steep?

We had dinner after an afternoon matinee show. The lobster salad was great to share. Outstanding selection of half bottle wines at reasonable prices. The calamari appetizer was mediocre; soggy, not crisp. Brought home dinner because the portions were large. Did not have room for dessert. The soup of the day was excellent.

Had great service, the waiter was exceptionally attentive given it was a buffet. Prime rib was excellent, seafood selection included tuna tartar which is unusual and appreciated. It wasn't too crowded so we were able to take our time and didn't feel rushed to leave because they needed the table.

Tucked between the Hancock and the Drake, the Grill on the Alley keeps up with its neighbors and the historical ambiance of the Mag Mile. I went there for Easter brunch and was blown away by the options. Fresh seafood, prime rib, gourmet salads, and a plethora of breakfast favorites. Every bite was perfect. The waitstaff are impeccably dressed and their service reminds you of a bygone era. The dining room and bar are tastefully decorated in keeping with the vintage motif of the hotel and the neighborhood as well. I live in the neighborhood and will not hesitate to return for dinner and drinks with friends and family, or of course brunch.

Grill on the Alley is in the Westin Hotel, so you'd expect it to be overpriced, but it's not. I've found it to be a solid go-to location when I am having lunch with a client, prospect or friend on North Michigan Avenue. The menu has something for everyone and I haven't had anything that wasn't good. Service is almost invariably attentive and the restaurant is usually empty enough (their problem, not ours) that you can speak in normal tones.

I have to say the food was great. The soup full of flavor and the bacon on the wedge was to die for. We got drinks that were different and delicious. The strawberry mule and the cucumber gimlet. For dinner we had crab cakes and broiled white fish both great especially the shoe strings with the cakes. Now on to the service, it was less then to be desired. It was at least 10 minutes before out server came with menus so long in fact the host came back and brought them to us. He finally came took our drink order and disappeared again. The host walked by and asked if we wanted bread. Most of the meal we felt ignored for a table next to us who had 5 people and must have been ordering expensive entrees. Great food only goes so far.

my husband and I were in Chicago for an Event. We were looking for a romantic quiet restaurant to enjoy ourselves. The restaurant was very nice and the food was very good, however, we had a terrible waiter. We waited 20 minutes to get our drinks, then we waited another 35 minutes for our food to arrive. We ordered an appetizer, salad, 2 main entrees ( that were exactly the same) and sides. our waiter did not tell us how large the portions were and we could have just shared what we ordered. we were not checked on during our meal to see if we needed anything else. We asked why he did not tell us the portions were for 2-3 people and he replied, " I usually do but just forgot" we spent $100.00 and were not impressed

There must be 200 restaurants within a mile of this place that offer a better price/value ratio. I realize that it's Streeterville but must every place in the area treat the locals as if they are tourists? Tellingly, on a Friday night the place was about a third full. That probably says more than anything else I could write.
