The Grill on the Alley was opened in 1984 as a living tribute to the great American grills of yesterday. In time, it has established itself as one of the country's leading restaurants, praised by writers across the country. The menu is classic American grill - prime steaks, fresh seafood, traditional dishes such as chicken pot pie or meatloaf and mashed potatoes, and homemade desserts. Named to The Fine Dining Hall of Fame by Nation's Restaurant News, The Grill is home of the entertainment industry's "power lunch," but is also open for dinner seven days a week.Continued

  • "I have been having Saturday lunch at The Grill for almost 20 years now. Most will tell you that lunches on Monday through Friday are the times to go to The Grill - half of Hollywood is sprinkled around the room. Once or twice a year, it might be worth watching the world go by, but for me, an excellent glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a delicious BLT with thick crispy bacon with my family over a long leisurely lunch takes me back to my weekends as a kid in Manhattan. This place is old school, but as relevant today as the day it opened. The food is standard, but delicious and accessible. The wait staff from welcome to departure is friendly and efficient."

The bread they bring to the table is always warm and delicious, my chilean sea bass was as good as I've had and the service was impeccable. I know that if I'm going to the Grille I can count on unobtrusive yet attentive service and great food...a perfect mix for allowing a meeting to focus on the things we are supposed to be focusing on!"

  • "I booked a reservation on open table and requested a quiet booth. When we got to the restaurant we were told (I was with a client), they we could have a booth if we would be finished by 1:15! The booths are for longtime patrons. We would have had to rush through lunch. Rude beginning. We asked for a quiet table and were shown a very nice table. Our waiter was wonderful and the service was fine. I ordered chicken piccata with asparagus. The meal costs $28 for lunch! The sauce on the chicken piccata was tasteless and the asparagus was huge and tough. The dessert and coffee was very good. The restaurant gets very crowded and loud. I don't know why this place is so popular. Overall a disappointing experience."

On Feb 13 we went to the Grille for an early Valentines dinner, a night when Pamela was not there. We were greeted by what our server described as an overworked maître de and were told he needs a day off. We felt like nobody's when we arrived a bit early and were left at the bar and forgotten about until we asked about our table well past our reservation time."

  • "Our friends were in town for a medical conference and we chose The Grill on the recommendation of a local 'expert'. Making reservation on OpenTable was super easy and took about 30 seconds. The folks at The Grill were friendly and welcoming. I had the sea bass. Others at our table had crab cakes and the filet. All were thoroughly enjoyed. Two of us had the prix fixe dinner. If you like shrimp cocktail, this is the place to have it. Huge, perfect shrimp and a very nice cocktail sauce."

  • "Greatly disappointed. Service was attentive, if a bit rushed and impersonal. Didn't include the small things that should come with a place of this caliber. The waiter didn't explain what the chef's compliment was on the table, he didn't check to see if I was enjoying my appetizer, nor offer fresh pepper for my steak, nor even tell me what the Cabernet was that he recommended accompany my steak. My NY strip was very tender but cooked more to medium-rare than to medium. The flavor was nice but nothing exceptional. Baked potato was overcooked and grainy. I got the sense that the place is still popular based on its location and reputation, both of which seem to exceed the quality of the product it delivers. Simply not worth the cost."

The evening we went was relatively quiet but we hear it is a popular venue to spot stars on a regular basis. It was obvious that many of the patrons are regulars as they are known by the staff and all know each other. That's definitely a sign of a good restaurant! Enjoy!"

However, the customer service was dry and it seemed as if the staff felt a bit a bit awkward that my wife and I; whom are both African-American were there to have an elegant evening. Their corporate office should address this issue. I will be discussing this particular site with my friends; for I have been to a number of "The Grill Restaurants" and this is the first occurrence where I could see this problem clearly. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the food, paid and left."

  • "We celebrated Christmas Eve at Gill on the Alley because I had such a great experience on a previous visit. The service is fantastic - truly customer focused. You are seated and given time to enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant and not rushed through any aspects of your meal. The wait staff is perfectly trained to attend to your every need without being overbearing. WONDERFUL. The food is to die for. We shared the tuna tartare which my parents loved and they don't even "do" sushi along with the crab cakes. Both were delicious. Dad went with the John Dory fish special which he is still raving about. (He only ever gets salmon). I went for the bone in filet... amazing and mom with the braised short ribs... falling off the bone delicious."

This is the third consecutive time in six months, where we were very unsatisfied and feel that for the cost of the evening we just don't want to work that hard to get a great meal.   • "The Grill was opened to emulate places like Musso and Franks and Tadich Grill in SF. It's better than both. Absolute quality ingredients, traditional grill fare and old-style professional service. It's generally packed with regulars from "the business", but the front desk is warm and without 'tude. I have a tradition of lunch between Christmas and New Year's, complete with a martini, then wandering around Beverly Hills watching the tourists. Perfect afternoon on a non-working day."

Nonetheless, it did not mar the experience as a first timer. Pablo was one of those waiters that just exudes experience, charm and humor. I wish he could be cloned for other restaurants... (kidding!) The atmosphere is straight out of New York filtered through an LA sensibility.
