A word from The Grill from Ipanema
The Grill From Ipanema is the only authentic Brazilian restaurant in town. This restaurant takes pride in its hospitality and is committed to offering the best culinary experience so that one can truly taste traditional Brazilian cookery with different flavors and from different regions in Brazil.
The inspiration of the menu is a reflection of the people, different cultures, and flavors within Brazil. Try our "Moqueca Mista a Baiana" style, it is a mixed seafood stew of fish, shrimp, mussels, squid, clams and scallops is prepared in a blend of palm oil and coconut milk with fresh cilantro, tomato, onion, scallions and green pepper (Please indicate how spicy) served in a clay pot with rice and fish broth, and a yucca purée on the side. Grill from Ipanema is a delightful surprise to anyone interested in a unique adventure from way down south.

Excellent and authentic recipes
along with a good wine list at reasonable prices. We would return on a future visit. Its close to the Shoreham and Marriott hotels."

The service and food was great I
felt like I was back in Brazil visiting a local restaurant."

My husband and I went to the Grill
from Ipanema on our vacation to the D.C. area. We loved this restaurant! The food was delicious and authentic, and the service was fantastic. Our waitstaff were very helpful and explained the different Brazilian cuisines to us. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal! The appetizers were delicious -- we especially enjoyed the croquettes. Also, you can't go wrong with the authentic Brazilian cocktails - the caipirinha was a real treat! Highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a nice evening and a delicious and authentic meal!"

I visited this restaurant with a
party of 10 for my birthday dinner. It was easy to find; parking on our own was difficult so the $10 valet was perfect (note: the valet parks cars in special areas along the street, not in a lot). We were greeted and seated immediately, and my later guests were brought to our table as they arrived. Service was prompt and friendly; the servers made us feel at ease about pronouncing the names of our dishes, which was a feat for people unfamiliar with Brazilian cuisine. My food (Coxinha De Galinha & Churrasco Misto) was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS ...although the beef was a little undercooked for my liking. The drinks were great too but small. Def would eat here again but for a special occasion as it is a bit pricey."

Valentine's day special dinner
turned out to be a great experience. Very friendly and courteous staff, great portions, and GREAT food."

Cachaca cocktails are great!
Mopeca (sp?) tomato, fish dish was the best! They let us turn our table so that we could see the band. The band members greeted the audience on their break. Romantic, kid-friendly, it felt like home. Thank you!"

First of all, the meats are
fantastic! There are over 10 different types of meat to try and 80 percent are exquisite! The meat melts in your mouth. No gristle. My favorites are the cheese steak, tri-tip, filet mignon, & parmesan pork' The others were very good. The only one that was okay to me was the sausage. Second, the salad bar is fantastic! Even my vegetarian friend loved it! My two favorites were ratatouille and caprese salads. The fresh fruits were incredible. For dessert, I loved the cinnamon pineapple from the grill. The atmosphere is wonderful. It overlooks the Puget Sound. Great place to go. The meal can initially seem pricey; however, it's well worth the money for all the great food I ate! Highly recommended!"

This was a great place for a group
of 10. The food was good the drinks fantastic. The service was good but not great. Still had a great time and would go again - especially for the great caipirinhas!"

This is one of the best
restaurants I've ever been to. Took my date there on Valentine's Day 2014. None of the servers spoke very good English it seemed like, but that's not that big of a deal - gave it a more authentic feel I guess. But the steak, while not a massive, traditional steakhouse slab of meat, was some of the best tasting steak I've ever had, and the amount was still enough to fill me up. The sides were also extremely good, and filling. All in all it was just amazing."

I had a terrible experience here
with my girlfriend over valentines day (which is coincidentally BOTH of our birthdays, so this was a big deal). Started off with us ordering food and the waitress unable to fully explain the foods to us. I then ordered the steak and my girlfriend the chicken on the price fixe menu for valentines day, and I told the waitress we do not eat pork, so no bacon. She then said 'its only a little bit of bacon' and I said we do not eat pork, so no bacon. She was very hesitant and then said i'll see if I can get you white rice. So then we wait, and wait, and wait, the food finally comes out and I get white rice... and my girlfriend gets bacon. Long story short, bad service, mediocre food, would not visit again."

Took my girl here for VDay, even
thought I set an reservation for some reason it did not appear on the list. However, the Host was able to still sit us easily. My girl order the extra spicy chicken dish, the chicken was so tender. I forget what kind of steak I had, it ws ok but overall this was a very nice and romantic restaruant"

Had Valentine’s Day Dinner. Our
group of 4 ordered from the special VDay combo menu for the occasion that had appetizer, dinner, and dessert options ($39.95 / per). I wasn’t completely happy with my selection and neither was my wife. Had potato soup which was a puree and highly garlicy. I ordered my steak medium and it came rare, my wife had the customary Brazilian dish and she didn't really like the flavors. Upon leaving we notice more interesting looking dishes ordered by others that were not on the special menu. The waitress gave us an extra glass of wine and after letting her know we said we would drink it - on bill. It was a college age crowd with a blend of ethnic backgrounds. Parking was by valet. Not my favorite, but not worst."

I took a group (9 people) to
dinner at The Grill. We had a good time. The service was great and our server was able to provide separate checks. The food was really good. Last time we enjoyed the Sunday Brunch (also good). This time we did dinner and was spot on. We'll return in the future. :)"

I had plenty of Brazilian food in
my trips to Brazil but I have to confess that eating at the Grill was nothing like I have tasted before. We came with a big group and everyone was satisfied. Service was good and friendly. They have traditional dishes like “moqueca de peixe” and chicken croquettes that is delicious (way tasty than what I had while in Brazil). I think I am in love with their capirinhas cocktails…. It is so refreshing. I am definitely coming back!"

Two friends and I went came here
to celebrate a birthday. The food was great. But the best part were the drinks. Caipirinhas ... mmmmm. Besides us, there was only one other table the whole time we were there."

The service was great! Raquel made
my brazilian girlfriend feel at home! Food wasn't too expensive but amazingly good. Get the mouceka seafood was fresh and spicy."

I normally come to Adams Morgan
for the bars but now restaurants will surely be added to the list because of this Brazilian restaurant - The Grill from Impanema. The restaurant is very easy to get only a few blocks from 18th st and Columbia Rd NW. When you walk in your greeted by a smiling host or hostess who is probably from Brazil. The staff is very nice and are really good with answering questions about items on the menu. The only Brazilian food I've had is at the Brazilian steakhouses, this was a great opportunity to try different Brazilian fare. The seafood dishes were absolutely delicious and I can wait to go back again."
Dined on 1/24/2014
Authentic brazilian food although
better examples of the appetizers can be found elsewhere. The cuts of meat vary in quality from average to excellent. A solid alternatives to the churrascarias. My wife is from São Paulo and enjoys coming here."
Dined on 1/18/2014
Loved the food, drinks,
atmosphere...but the service was bad. Drinks and refills took forever, and I think at times forgotten. The busboy was rather unpleasant. The server forgot to submit one of our guest's entrees to the kitchen, so she sat without food for several minutes while the rest of us had been served. The server was kind enough to split up the checks (which is the only reason for two stars instead if one) but all but one check was wrong. Not sure if I would give this one another try..."

There aren't many places in the
area that do non-rodizio Brazilian food, and Grill from Ipanema provided genuine cuisine and a nice caipirinha. Our server was great and accommodating, and we had a good time. Would definitely return!"

We went during restaurant week and
it was quite delightful. Experienced new dishes, wine, perfect ambience. It was amazing and perfect for a quite night. My partner and I decided to do a date night during the week and it was well worth it - the overall atmosphere was friendly and comfortable while still feeling upscale."

Went there with a group of friends
for restaurant week. After reading several mixed reviews, wasn't sure what to expect...but hoped for the best. The biggest disappointment was the service. When the appetizer course came out, they only brought out food for 3 of the 8 guests. The remaining appetizers didn't arrive to at least 15 mins later, and the server didn't offer any kind of explanation of why this happened. And when she gave one guest the wrong appetizer, she wanted to argue with us instead of accepting that she messed up. The main entree's came out without issue, and were pretty decent, but not spectacular. Lastly, when it was time to pay the bill, we had to ask other servers to locate ours. She was sitting at the bar. WOW!"

This delicious restaurant is a
refreshing change from the steakhouse chains that tend to dominate the cultural scene for Brazilian food. I highly recommend going for steak or feijoada. The drinks are also delightful. However, the desserts we had were not outstanding."

An urban Oasis for Brazilian food
and welcome break from the churrascarias. My wife (originally from São Paulo) loves this place and it is great pick for groups. If only the drinks were not so pricey."

A friend and I dined at the Grill
from Ipanema on New Year's Eve. We ate the bar instead of ordering from the all you can eat buffet scheduled for the evening. We both ordered the carne de sol off of the ala carte menu, menu, and we left highly satisfied. My friend is primarily vegetarian, and this was his one night of the year that he'll eat meat. The steaks did not disappoint. The caipirinhas were just as good as dinner. I've had lunch and dinner at this restaurant over 15 years, and I'm always pleased with the quality of food and service. The service is very good, and the surroundings are favorable to holding a decent conversation. I'll be back."

This place will have something for
everyone! Beef, chicken, fish, alligator, or an awesome salad. I have never had anything bad there, and they have the BEST steak (this coming from a seafood person). I just wish that I could go more often."

The Grill From Ipanema generally
does an excellent job with the food, which is accompanied by excellent service. The ambience is warm yet stimulating, and this has long been a favorite restaurant of mine. My most recent meal there was with 3 friends, all of whom enjoyed their meals very much, though mine was disappointing, which marred an otherwise nice birthday celebration for me. The CASQUINHA DE SIRIT is way too tiny. Patrons should be made aware of this before they order it. The smaller meat pieces in the churrasco misto came to me overcooked TWICE. The flan & the fried bananas were boring. These problems lie with the kitchen. I will definitely be going back, because I believe that my meal was an aberration."

HIGHLY recommend this!!!"

Perfect spot to take my special
guy for his 50th. We love Brazilian cuisine and The Grill was the perfect spot. The strawberry flan was a lovely surprise with the candle! The meal was flavorful and the atmosphere was perfect for a special night."

This is a great neighborhood spot
for drinks and authentic Brazilian food. Most of the staff is Brazilian and everyone is very friendly. The background music is great and they also sometimes have live music. Unfortunately, it was snowing on Sunday so the performers couldn't make it into DC. The owner left me a message to let me know but we still went and had a nice evening."

I honestly STUMBLED across this
gem of a restaurant on Open Table while trying to find a location for an alumni dinner for 19 people. Not only was the staff attentive to the needs of a large group, they accommodated the changing numbers of our party with style and grace. The food was amazing! I asked the wait staff to bring out an assortment of appetizers and was blown away. Many in the group chose the Carne del Sol and could not stop raving about it. Definitely a place to go when you are in DC! Don't miss this restaurant!"

My wife and I are traveling to
Brazil and wanted to get a sense of Brazilian cuisine before hand. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere and people at the Grill from Ipanema. We are pleased to have discovered this gem and look forward to coming back! We dined early (5:00 pm) on a Saturday, but suspect that it is livelier (and louder) at a more appropriate Latin dinner hour."

The Grill from Ipanema has changed
and evolved over time to better consistently. There was a great live music by DC Choro group, one of the best representatives of Brazilian music in the DC area. It seems they come once a month there, and another group too. They serve typical Brazilian food and it was very tasty. The ambiance is great, the decor is nice and clean. The caipirinha is authentic, and Brazilians danced at the sound of samba. It is a great place to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays for adults. Cheers to them!"

Excellent variety on the menu and
quality to match. My wife grew up in Brazil and declared it authentic and of great quality. I simply loved the flavors and the service was excellent. Nice atmosphere also."
Dined on 11/9/2013
Friendly and very warm ambiance.
many different options to choose from on the menu. We shared a few appetizers and a main dish. The Brazilian croquettes (coxinha de galinha) and the fish stew in coconut milk (moqueca) were my favorites. would like to call real comfort food. The food and service was good and will definitely go back!"
Dined on 11/1/2013
When I was younger my mom used to
always sing "The Girl from Ipanema" so that combined with my recent introduction and newfound fondness for Brazilian food made this place very attractive! I was not disappointed. The ambience is very nice and it was quiet. A nice private getaway with great food and even better service. The servers, bartender, bussers and managers were all extremely attentive. I had a scotch at the bar while I waited & we ordered a special Brazilian drink (similar to a mojito but with rum I think?) an appetizer of mussels in a green sauce, 2 meals and we had dessert! All in all I will certainly be back. I will likely attend the live Brazilian jazz night & will certainly stop in & say Hello whenever I'm in Adam's Morgan!"
