A word from The Grill at Leon Springs
Since we began in 1985, our traditional style of cooking has been based on our European philosophy and culture "Fresh From Scratch and From the Heart".
Thierry, Chef and Restaurant Owner, opened the renowned L’Etoile in Alamo Heights in 1985 and in 2007 added a second restaurant- The Grill at Leon Springs. Using French culinary experience and expertise, he creates dishes that originate in France but combine exquisite flavors and ingredients from all over the world.
Our open kitchen showcases the chefs cooking over our unique imported wood fired grill. Our reputation is based on our specialty seafood items, including Halibut, Red Snapper, Scallops and Lobster. We also offer steaks as well as gourmet dishes and Pizza, cooked on our wood fire oven.
We frequently update our menu in order to use seasonal produce.
Join us for lunch or dinner and experience the Texas Hill Country's finest European Cuisine, with an authentic American flair.

Diner Reviews
  • "This was my first visit to the Grill at Leon Springs and I was very impressed. The food was excellent, one of the best Ceasar salads I have ever had and my blackened drum sandwich cooked perfectly and the bun was excellent. The service was wonderful - the waiter gave our party the privacy we needed for our working lunch, but we were never in need for lack of attention. Overall it was a great experience and I am very glad I selected the Grill at Leon Springs. Now I just wish I lived closer to the restaurant!"

  • "Crab claws vietnamese style and sea bass were excellent."

  • "We were seated in a romantic spot and had a great waiter. My wife doesn't want to be rushed - especially on her birthday. We ordered cocktails and a salad. Good start Then we ordered dinner, my wife having the house Beef Stroganoff and me ordering a red snapper filet. The Stroganoff featured house noodles that were called papardelli (about 1" wide) and delicious. The fish served was also hot and delicious with wild rice. For dessert we ordered an apple dish that again was way above expectations Our waiter could not have been better and the evening went off without a hitch."

  • "After calling four times to try and get directions (got answering machine, the young lady who answered phone did not know name of exit off of I10) and being hassled by "complimentary" valet parking, we entered a very inviting venue. My tilapia with crab was excellent, lightly battered and topped with just the right amount of butter sauce and large lumps of crab meat. Although the waiter said it came with mashed potatoes (which is why I ordered it instead of the trout), the small quartered round potatoes worked perfectly. My husband's lamb tasted a bit dark and heavy. The asparagus needed more grilling time, and the small portion of hollandaise sauce was thick and almost pure butter, bland and icky. John, our waiter, was very attentive."

  • "Our evening out at The Grill at Leon Springs was pleasant and no disappointment for dinner with our daughter and a friend. Three of us enjoyed fish entrees, and the fourth enjoyed beef medallions. Perhaps the most delectable of these entrees was the crab cakes. The crab cakes were tender and contained abundant crab to make them an entree I would select again. Our only disappointment was the outdoor bar where our two gentlemen wanted to enjoy a cigar and chat. The music was so loud that we could not hear one another without shouting even though we chose the farthest seating from the band."

  • "I was very pleased with my experience. The service was great, the food was great, the hostess did well, too. The only disappointment is that my date had to cancel at the last minute...otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed the experience!"

  • "For food quality, you cannot go wrong at this restaurant. Our table had four dishes (three different fish entrees & one steak). I was amazed at the distinctive, yet appealing mix of flavors with each fish entrée. My favorite was the pecan encrusted Halibut. I choose the New York Strip. I have to say that I have not had a steak of that quality since living in Atlanta or Chicago. I truly could hold it own with those cities' finest steakhouses. We sat in an overflow room. It was nice enough, but not at the level of the other eating areas in the restaurant; however, it was less noisy than the other areas. By comparison, I would rate the main restaurant area 4 stars for ambience, but assign 3 bars for noise level."

  • "Took my best friend and husband who were visiting from out of town there to celebrate a birthday .... food was fabulous! They loved it and raved about how nice it was ... this was only my second time there but we think it will become one of our all-time favorite places to go! Loved the back room ... loved our waiter! and the food was out of this world!"

  • "Everything about the night was great once we sat down at our table. But when we walked in the hostess stand was busy and the girls working were not friendly. They were rolling their eyes and even forgot to seat someone with a 7:30 reservation. It was 8:10 wen they asked when they would be seated. Frustration happens but don't let you customers see. When you work the hostess position you have to be positive and upbeat and that's where this restaurant could improve, in my opinion."

  • "Need a reservation for this restaurant, Food is outstanding except for the calamari. Although the crispy Calamari was tough, the mouth melting Chilean Sea Bass with potatoes, green beans, green peppers, grapes and brussell sprouts made up for it. It was nice for the Chef to personally move around the dining area to personally say hello to the diners. This is an efficient operation. The whole staff is outstanding! They move like clock work.e"

  • "We live in the area, so we frequently dine at the Grill...at least once a week. By now we have tried everything on the menu and have not found anything that was not 5 star. As Texans, lamb is not something we would order. We did order it at out last visit and it was superb, to say the least. Definitely on our list of favorites from now on. The only negative is the chairs. They are very uncomfortable and need replacing...I believe they are the original chairs. If I had to stand to enjoy the food, I probably would."

  • "Meet friends for dinner here often; always an enjoyable night out - whether week night or weekend. On this latest visit, I opted for the panko crusted tilapia with crabmeat and corn relish - one of my favorites at The Grill and again, I was very pleased - simply delicious! One in our party had the crab cakes and someone else had the beef tenderloin - we were all very pleased with our meals - and a great time was had by all! Our server was delightful. Oh, and a great wine list too!"

  • "This was ou fourth trip to The Grill at Leon Springs. Our last visit was 4 years ago and we were happy to find the same excellent service and extensive menu. Our biggest problem was deciding which meal to order as we have never had a bad meal."

  • "The restaurant did an excellent job of honoring our reservations...seated on time in accordance to our request. Service was spotty...our waiter seemed to have too many tables and was somewhat unresponsive to our request for desert..."

  • "We always love the food and ambiance. On this visit, we did not have our normal server and were not pleased with the server we had. Totally ignored one person in our party and paid particular attention to the other two."

  • "We love the food here...gourmet but many reasonably priced menu choices. Great salads and huge portions...too much actually but makes great to-go left overs! One warning...they often offer a Groupon. Only one per table is strictly enforced. Don't agree with that policy but won't keep me from eating here because the food and service are exceptional."

  • "We have been dining at this location for many years and are always pleased with the food and service. It's such a great alternative to chain restaurants and industrial food. Great fish, seafood and meats always served hot and in imaginative ways."

  • "Food was great and generous portions. Service was good and waiter knowledgeable of menu items. Noise level is a little bit high because the restaurant has open spaces. I would recommend this restaurant with my eyes closed."

  • "We were seated 30 minutes late for our reservation, then we were asked to move tables because they needed our table for a wheelchair. Once reseated we waited for our waiter to bring bread but never did so we had to ask for it although other tables received us even if they were seated after us. The only vegetable was broccoli, no asparagus. The salmon was really good and my husband enjoyed his prime rib. Our date night was not the best but we enjoyed the food."

  • "We arrived at 6:55pm. Reservation via opentable was made for 7pm and we finally got a table at 7:30pm....ordered food at 7:35pm and got it at 8:00. I ordered the steak which was exceptional and my wife got the jumbo scallops which also was exceptional. It was a bit tight to get to our table, the waiter stated that the crowding was due to the numerous walk-ins."

  • "Love hearing Ruben when ever we can! The fact that we can come to the Grill for a great dinner, great service and great drinks makes it that much better. The only criticism is that we had reservations on the patio but there were two first come first serve tables that were a bit closer. We asked to be moved a bit closer but had to wait for the waitress to get permission from someone before she could move us."

  • "Don,t know what to think about this but after making reservations all over the country, The Grill at Leon Springs, is the first to ever not provide sitting within a few minutes of the reservation time. My wife and I usually take one Saturday every month or so for a date night away from our 5 and 7 year olds and try to have a nice evening to include dinner after doing some other running around town.. Reservations were made for 7:30 but at 8:00l no sitting could be had and we were forced to take our leave to return home at the agreed upon time. Ended up doing fast food. The hostess was not very agreeable nor empathetic but insisted that everyone was taking longer at their dinners as the reason for the tardiness in seating."

  • "I went to this restaurant location in the late 80's when it opened as the first Macaroni Grill. I always liked the location. Not sure when it occurred, but there was a flood that severely damaged the area and they never re-opened. It was a huge disappointment. I had moved from San Antonio to Dallas by that time but I did hear that another restaurant had rebuilt the place. It wasn't until 2010 that my husband and I tried the Grill at Leon Springs - a nice cozy eating establishment and the food was good. They have expanded the space since then and now it is an extremely popular place! The current chef is awesome. I had the crab cakes which melted in your mouth. Highly recommend!!"

  • "Our waiter, whose name is forgotten, was most helpful.... especially with the knives, (which are unique). The salads were all eaten to the last bite, which means that most of the delicious entrees were only partially enjoyed. The waiter then brought a slice of birthday cake, which wasn't asked for, as he determined someone at the table was indeed celebrating her birthday. It was a great evening for all."

  • "This is the third time we've eaten here, and we can't get off the seafood offerings. High quality product and talent in the kitchen. Creative dishes executed very well. Wait staff is on the ball and very helpful with questions about menu item preparations. Bar is above average and wine offerings are adequate. We've been consistently pleased with every experience we've had here, and plan to return frequently."

  • "This is located on the frontage road of a highway and a little difficult to spot, especially at night. Once you are in, the service is exceptional and food quite good. Great wine list with limited by the glass options. Highly recommended."

  • "The Grille is always good. I've eaten there many, many times and it's always good. There is a Chef Special Menu every day and it always has something I like on it. The service is sometimes great and sometimes just OK, but the owners are constantly walking around visiting with tables. The french onion soup and the tortilla soup are some of the best around. The fish is always fresh and the calamari appetizer is well worth getting if you like calamari. I'll keep going back."

  • "We were seated promptly at 7pm and quickly visited by the staff for drinks, water and warm fresh bread. The service continued as the waiter explained the menu and made his recommendations. We went with the scallops and a tenderloin stew. Both were amazing but the scallops dominated. The managers oversaw service and we're actively engaged to insure quality. The delicious desert and coffee followed which made the night perfect as we headed outsidewhere the valet quickly retrieved the car. Parking is packed but the free valet service avoids parking issues. Overall a ggeat experience."

  • "For the price, Sunday Brunch was disappointing. The selection of food was very limited and in my opinion there were too many cold salad options. Also, it would have been helpful if our server, who knew that we had never been there for Brunch, had explained the layout. We had trouble figuring out how to order the made to order omelets and waffles. On a positive note, the eggs benedict was delicious."
