Diner Reviews
  • "I guess if I was a bike aficionado I would understand the décor. It is like having lunch in a night club/bike store in bright day light. Gloomy at best…. The lunch menu is uninspired, out of six appetizers three are variations of French fries, really???? The main courses are not easier to pick. A special of the day pizza that sounded creative and interesting turned out to be melted cheese on a baguette and an actually not bad Vadouvan of Baby Golden Beets w/ rice cake was rice cake less and without a trace of beets. We looked forward to a the dessert to recover but could not find anything we wanted to order. Will not come back…"

  • "If I had know the chicken fried chicken was fried chicken. I never would have ordered it. I was thinking it was going to be like chicken fried steak but with chicken. Not ordering it would have been a hugh mistake. I'm 67 and have had alot of fried chicken. This was the best fried chicken I have ever eaten. I never eat the skin. I did this time. I just couldn't get enough."

  • "I picked the greenhouse tavern for my husbands birthday dinner because if the pig head segment on bizarre foods. Fantastic food and server Kevin was terrific!"

  • "This was our second time visiting and we were not disappointed. Vegetarian offerings are creative and inventive not just an afterthought like most of 4th St. We will be back again soon!"

  • "A real gem for Cleveland. Menu is very different but great food with a great taste. Great place to open your palate to new experiences. You will not be disappointed."

  • "We saw a program about this restaurant on the food network. The program specifically focused on the pig head on the menu, and raved about how good it was and how it sold out every day. As it was an unusual menu item, we wanted to check it out. We have family in the Cleveland area, so while visiting, we had dinner here. I had the pig head, and two others had the Fred Flintstone short ribs. The food was very good. The portions are HUGE!"

  • "As with previous visits, this place has never disappointed my wife or I. The food is always amazing and fresh. The only downfall to this restaurant is poor lighting. The food is so beautiful but it's hard to photograph since there is such poor lighting."

  • "I can't believe I haven't found Greenhouse Tavern earlier. Their drink menu is larger than their food menu with a great variety. We had the bread board and duck zampone to start. (The bread board with a bottle of wine would be perfect sitting on the patio on a warm spring/summer evening). But we didn't end their - my friend had the pork saltimboca and I had the strip steak. Both were delicious. I can't wait to return to try the pig's head later..."

  • "Menu with items you've never seen before! Tastes your taste buds have never tasted before! A real dining experience and a gem on E. 4th street. Portions are appropriately sized and the pricing is reasonable. Chef Sawyer is one of the best and the wait staff is well-trained, pleasant, and extremely helpful."

  • "Since I have multiple food intolerances, dining out is sometimes an adventure. The Greenhouse Tavern was an adventure -- but in only the most positive sense. The waitress (and chef and staff) worked with me to find and adapt dishes. My husband, who does not have such intolerances, also thoroughly enjoyed his meal. If you're in downtown Cleveland for business, a show, or sightseeing, this is a great place to dine."

  • "We had 6 people for dinner for my wife's birthday. She had the Chef's choice tasting menu, and loved everything (and had enough left for lunch the next day). All of our meals were superb, and everyone enjoyed house cocktails. Service was attentive, but not bothersome, and they even brought dessert samples for the table. Highly recommended."

  • "The Greenhouse Tavern is one of the best restaurants in Cleveland. It is my favorite hands down. The food is amazing and the menu is progressive and innovative. It is not an inexpensive place and you generally need reservations. I absolutely love it."

  • "Dined early before attending the Moondog Coronatino Ball at the Quicken Loans Arena just a block away. Wide variety of food choices in various price ranges. Waiter Kevin was AWESOME!! Knew everything about the food and gave expert advice on choices. Everything was delicious! We'll definately be back!"

  • "Americans are overweight and our restaurants don't help by serving gigantic portions of food.......but, Greenhouse Tavern has gone too far the other way. This isn't Paris or NYC. A $28 entree shouldn't leave you asking for more bread AFTER the meal. An $8 appetizer was riduculously small. $154 total bill for 4 people (including 6 beers and no dessert) seemed very steep for the amount and quality of the food served."

  • "We enjoyed this very much. The small plates and our entrees were awesome. The atmosphere is very cool, and we loved our beer and wine choices. The pot de creme was fabulous to end our meal! We went on a Sunday night, so it was lively without being packed."

  • "I've eaten here twice now. The first time we were quite impressed with seemed to be inventive and well executed dishes, so took some guests from NYC. On this visit we reordered the Devils on Horseback, which we had quite enjoyed, only to find that they were made with much more chocolate, which disrupted what had previously been a nice combination of flavors More importantly one guest in our party ordered the pork chop, which as served was, without exaggeration, 80% pure fat. While some inconsistency is almost inevitable even in the finest of restaurants, a slab of fat like that should never leave a kitchen. Some other dishes were again quite nice, but the inconsistency between visits, and among dishes gives us pause."

  • "My Wife and daughter order the market fish for $26.00 no side with meal just one small piece of fish. I ordered the pig head I thought it was the whole head it was just half with no side eather for $45.00 mostly fat little meat it was good but not worth the money. We left there hungry wanting more food. It is one of those places were the presentation in pretty but no food for your money."

  • "The restaurant is very casual including the servers. The wine list was huge. We started out with a bread/spread tray which was good. The breads were very good, the spreads were not. Everyone at our table tried every spread and we all agreed the spreads did nothing to help the breads. Our table ordered the fish, pork chops, pasta w/clams and the beet entree. Everyone else thought they're meals were pretty good while the beets, which I ordered, were half bland. I say half bland because half the plate was spicy while the other was not. I guess I was to supposed to stir it up. The prices were high and the portions, other than the bread plate, were very small. I might consider going back for a drink in the future but certainly not for dinner."

  • "The pomme frites and novelty of the pigs head brought us in, but the amazingly delicious pork will bring us back. I couldn't believe the richness of the meat in combination with an Asian inspired BBQ and perfectly clean slaw to top off the sand which. Best thing I've ever eaten, no doubt."

  • "Wed 6PM reservations for 3. Place was not busy - yet. Seated right away. Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Ordered the warm bread butter board and deep fried brussel sprouts for appetizers. Beef Short Ribs and half Pigs Head as mains. Torte for dessert. Food was excellent and plentiful. Our order would have fed 6. After reading and hearing about this restaurant, the meal did not disappoint. Savory, rich and fatty in a great meat lovers way. Noise level rose accordingly as the tables filled later in the evening. We had a great experience here. Was it due to midweek early dining? My daughter lives in Cleveland and says the place is mobbed on weekends."

  • "Full disclosure: I'm in the service industry and eat out a lot and I've never been compelled to write. We had a party of 7 and were sat in a section that must have been difficult to service as we received so little of it in the 2+ hours we were there. We order drinks and they arrive 20 minutes later. We order 1st course and it arrives with a salad missing and an apology. We order the entrees because I inform the server we need to be out soon. Entree's arrive with one missing and an excuse. We try to order a second round of drinks and they arrive 20 minutes later and with 3 missing. The sever says the bar is backed up however, we can see our distinctive colored drinks sitting on a tray in the bar service window from our balcony seating."

  • "Dinner was on a Sunday - was disapointed at the food portion - paid a high dollar for so little. Restaurant did not have my initial wine selection, nor did they have one of their featured desserts. Will mark it off my list of restaurants I wanted to try, but will not be making a return visit."

  • "As always, Greenhouse Tavern delivered when we went for dinner Friday night. Family in from out of town were really impressed. This place is becoming my go to for out of towners. Wasn't impressed by the carrot and curry app, and the beef jerky pasta left a little to be desired, but maybe that's because they were next to the rich and bold flavor a of the wings, animal fries and lamb burger- each last piece fought for. Service impeccable as always. Can't wait to go back, who wants to come visit?"

  • "The service is great, but certainly not formal. Went out on a limb and tried the pig's ear salad and was pleasantly surprised, incorporated perfectly. Atmosphere is vibrant. Drinks are good, try the aged Manhattan. Fun spot to eat at."

  • "This was our third visit and we will not return. We were seated upstairs and the lighting was so poor that we could not read the menu but literally, could barely see the food. We asked our server about it and he said, well, people usually use the flashlights on their phones. Its one thing to need additional lighting to see the menu but part of the pleasure of fine dining is enjoying your food with all of your senses. i literally could not see what I was eating. My younger companions in their 20's agreed so it was not an age issue. Also, I had the fish special which was very good but truly was a appetizer portion--not a main dish. Very disappointed."

  • "East 4th has some great places but not many of them get SERVICE and FOOD paired together so well! Rachel was our server on Saturday night and she was the BEST! She was friendly, listened to what we wanted and walked us through the menu to make our experience the best! She knew the items on both the food and drinks menu. They paid attention to our timing since we were going to the CAVS game, and were wonderful about reading the notes we put into our OT reservation. Nice job Greenhouse!"

  • "We had reservations and were sat at 6:30 & did not have a server greet us until 7. 15 mins later we receive our two $8 drinks that tasted like straight soda then didn't see our server for another 10 minutes. We had a show at 8 & asked how long a meal would take & she said over 45 mins so the only option was the $15 bread & butter plate w/ 5 pieces of bread & some "butters" that were not good and were so hard you couldn't spread it on the bread or even get it out of the canister it was served in. Which took another ten minutes. That's an hour & 5 minutes to order 2 drinks & some "bread & butter". Never again! And the same conversation was being said at the table a foot & a half away which was annoying to listen to! Went to Red. It was great!"

  • "With the waitress promising to have the crispiest chicken wings anywhere she noted how they were marinated, slow cooked in the oven then deep fried. They were anything but crispy. Although flavorful, they were soft & mushy and measly in size. Certainly not worth the high price. My girlfriend had the veggie bean burger that was extremely bland."

  • "Server was a bit scattered, and the older we get, the lower lighting hurts reading the menus (upstairs in the back). But those minor things aside, what an awesome place. Food was phenomenal. The chef's tasting menu is a bit pricey for the Midwest, but was still well worth the money spent. I'll go back again."
