  • "We have eaten at the Green Room at the Hotel DuPont many times and it has always been wonderful.Saturday night the food was outstanding. However, the service was very disappointing. We had to ask for bread and butter even though they had served the table right next to us and just walked right by us. The waiter finally brought wine after we had finished the appetizer course. He brought a different bottle of wine as the wine we had ordered was allegedly out of stock. It felt like classic bait and switch. He did not bring the wine list to let us make a new selection. The waiter also attempted to give us the bill before we were served our desserts. The service was not what that great hotel and restaurant prides itself on and usually delivers."

  • "I have no complaints regarding the food, the atmosphere or the excellent service. My only feedback is that the service was so efficient our dining experience was over in an hour. We had a party of 4 and the waiter was very attentive. It just seemed that we were being rushed out although there were many empty tables. We had no other plans and were not seeing a show downtown. We were not offered another drink and when we had coffee with our desserts, we were not offered a refill. I would have liked to linger and enjoy the ambiance but that was not to be. I know that there is a fine line between service and timing. I would think the Green Room has that figured out by now to give patrons a rewarding experience & great service."

  • "I hosted four men for a business lunch. The maitre d' handed menus to my guests and ignored me completely in helpipng to seat me and never handing me a menu. As the only woman at the table and the host party, this was a major gaffe for a restaurant that is stiving to maintain a reputation. It occurred at a time when the room was sparsely occupied. there was no excuse that he was too busy. There were only two tables besides ours in the dining room when we arrived and when we left. The waitress apologized and handed me a menu. On the other hand, the waitress was very attentive and provided very good service."

  • "The minute you enter the dining room you know you are in an old world environment. Wonderful brunch in an absolutely beautiful and elegant setting. There is an omelette and carving station, a large cheese selection and two hot stations with things like eggs benedict, bacon, waffles, etc. There is another hot station with pasta, a salmon dish and warm vegetables. A pastry station tops off the meal. Service was excellent. We visited the Dupont prior to visiting Winterthur which is about 15 minutes away. When we finished eating, we walked through the Brandywine Room to view the Hotel's Wyeth collection. Lovely experience. We will be back!"

  • "You go to the Green Room for the spectacular setting, an ornate, elegant, high ceilinged dining room that's incredibly elegant. A pianist plays or an ornate railed balcony overhead. We have visited twice for brunch buffet. The service is great. After you finish with your plate your server clears it promptly along with replacing your flatware. The beef tenderloin from the carving station is a standout. The chocolate mousse too. They have Frixenet sparkling wine on the wine list, attractively priced at $ 30.00/bottle. Would definitely go back!"

To celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary 4 years ago, he booked a room at the beautiful & historic Hotel duPont. The 1st time we dined at The Green Room, we marvelled at the magnificence. The ambience, the piano playing while we dined...all of it combined with scrumptuous, perfectly prepared food, presented by the finest wait staff around! Just sit, relax & enjoy the gorgeous dining room looking through those 24 foot floor-to-ceiling windows, the regal drapery, the artwork & the incredibly detailed coffered ceiling & balcony. Wow!   • "We were told this was the place in Wilmington, De for one of the best rooms for Brunch and they were right incredible wood work, using real silver for place settings and a pianist! The food was not as great as I thought the Eggs Benedict was ok English muffins were so hard knife almost didn't cut them! Encouraging to see what I thought was scrapple on buffet but could have been square sausage patty? Cold buffet items were very nicely arranged but I wasn't sure about mussels? Dessert was very nicely done but nothing that reached out and grabbed you (disappointed that at least a local favorite wasn't on buffet Blue Crab?!). At $38/person I can only say go for the ambiance!"

The waiter was rather abrupt and inattentive (low tip expectations from matinee ladies?), but satisfactory. The buffet was reasonably priced, and had a nice selection, but not well monitored. The soup was not hot. Several items were nearly empty, and not refilled at all while we were there. But – the dessert table was fabulous! I just may start there next time!"

  • "I had been looking forward to dining at Hotel duPont. Overall, I was extremely disappointed in the service. We went to celebrate our elopement. Our waitress had no knowledge of available wines. After telling us some wines were not available by the glass, we finally got a wine list and discovered the waitress did not tell us the truth. The service was so terrible it completely overshadowed the quality of the food and the setting. The servers brought out two of the wrong dishes, took them back, and then brought half my tables food. The rest of my tables food came 10-15 minutes later and that is inexcusable. Furthermore, half the table requested coffee with dessert. They brought the coffee mugs...but the coffee never arrived. "

  • "The Hotel DuPont Green Room brunch is worth going to just for the ambience. The pianist adds a nice touch and the preparation and variety of the food was excellent. Food quality was very good as well and much better than the normal brunch fare most places serve, worthy of the extra cost. The one disappointment was the service, which seemed too busy to refill coffee or juice or to clear plates in a timely manner. The neighborhood Chinese buffet would put them to shame. Even more unfortunate considering the restaurant was only lightly filled. Still a great experience, but not nearly as special as it could have been if they had just cared a little bit."

Waiters in black tie, getting orders wrong, bumping into each other (seriously), filling drinks half way and needing to return with the remainder, taking away the wine glasses at the end of dessert (why?). Service wise, the whole thing was just a laugh. The food was old, heavy and borderline horrid. Scallops were rubber and so was the custard dessert. Seriously, the hotel needs to shut this restaurant, think about what they want to be (not who they were 50 years ago) and start over."

  • "I had lunch with seven other co-workers for restaurant week. My salad and beef bourguignon were tasty but my friend next to me ordered the same salad which came out dry and wilted. The service was a nightmare. It took us two hours just to eat two courses simply because the waiter was terrible. Other tables received their food before us, but were seated after us! Everyone had something to complain about and we all left hungry. The room is gorgeous, but we expected to be 'wowed' with the food as well. They need larger portions and better service. "

The food was good and so was the service in terms of speed, which may be related to the time of day and perhaps their usual lunch clients have time constraints. Our first course arrived before we even finished the tasty rolls and butter. The entrees came out quickly after and the server took away my companion's salad plate to place the entree down and then stood waiting while I stuffed salad in my mouth so he could put my plate somewhere. Our portions were generous, the food tasty, and the servers pleasant, but considering the mystique of The Green Room, I had expected more attention to details of the service, in particular the pacing. We will definitely return ~ especially if in a hurry!"

The food was superb. We were the only epole that evening with a smalll child and they treated our four-year-old like a prince (the children's menu is excellent and I recommend popcorn shrimp as eh best choice for children --since I stole many of them from our son)."
