Diner Reviews
  • "We were told this was the place in Wilmington, De for one of the best rooms for Brunch and they were right incredible wood work, using real silver for place settings and a pianist! The food was not as great as I thought the Eggs Benedict was ok English muffins were so hard knife almost didn't cut them! Encouraging to see what I thought was scrapple on buffet but could have been square sausage patty? Cold buffet items were very nicely arranged but I wasn't sure about mussels? Dessert was very nicely done but nothing that reached out and grabbed you (disappointed that at least a local favorite wasn't on buffet Blue Crab?!). At $38/person I can only say go for the ambiance!"

  • "One can never go wrong dining in the Green Room at The Hotel. Some save it for special occasions, but I view every occasion as special. Although on this particular date we brought our guests for Sunday Brunch, I have also enjoyed afternoon tea with a friend in the luxurious Green Room. Don't think you have to be dressed to the nines to dine here; smart casual is just as welcome. Wilmington is a very friendly city; the staff at this hotel aims to please and they do an outstanding job."

  • "Don't waste your time & money on this stuffy, old restaurant. Poorly trained staff and an off-putting attitude of some staff plus nothing special in food preparation, make this an very disappointing visit. Remembering a great dinner there some years ago, we returned for an anniversary and were very disappointed."

  • "We were there for the pre-theater buffet. The place is elegant and charming, and that was our primary motivation. We were not disappointed. The waiter was rather abrupt and inattentive (low tip expectations from matinee ladies?), but satisfactory. The buffet was reasonably priced, and had a nice selection, but not well monitored. The soup was not hot. Several items were nearly empty, and not refilled at all while we were there. But – the dessert table was fabulous! I just may start there next time!"

  • "Beautiful dining room with friendly, efficient service and tasty, well-prepared dishes. Excellent for a special occasion. It was a very enjoyable evening."

  • "Attentive service; great brunch selections and background piano music adds to an elegant brunch!"

  • "No points from you; no review from me. This is the first time I have made a reservation and did not receive points. What's up with that? "

  • "We had a nice big round table and the noise level was low so conversation was easy. Everyone said their food was good. My complaint is that it took so long for our food to be served. An hour and 45 minutes for lunch. Then the wait person gave herself 20%."

  • "I had been looking forward to dining at Hotel duPont. Overall, I was extremely disappointed in the service. We went to celebrate our elopement. Our waitress had no knowledge of available wines. After telling us some wines were not available by the glass, we finally got a wine list and discovered the waitress did not tell us the truth. The service was so terrible it completely overshadowed the quality of the food and the setting. The servers brought out two of the wrong dishes, took them back, and then brought half my tables food. The rest of my tables food came 10-15 minutes later and that is inexcusable. Furthermore, half the table requested coffee with dessert. They brought the coffee mugs...but the coffee never arrived. "

  • "I had lunch with seven other co-workers for restaurant week. My salad and beef bourguignon were tasty but my friend next to me ordered the same salad which came out dry and wilted. The service was a nightmare. It took us two hours just to eat two courses simply because the waiter was terrible. Other tables received their food before us, but were seated after us! Everyone had something to complain about and we all left hungry. The room is gorgeous, but we expected to be 'wowed' with the food as well. They need larger portions and better service. "

  • "The Hotel DuPont Green Room brunch is worth going to just for the ambience. The pianist adds a nice touch and the preparation and variety of the food was excellent. Food quality was very good as well and much better than the normal brunch fare most places serve, worthy of the extra cost. The one disappointment was the service, which seemed too busy to refill coffee or juice or to clear plates in a timely manner. The neighborhood Chinese buffet would put them to shame. Even more unfortunate considering the restaurant was only lightly filled. Still a great experience, but not nearly as special as it could have been if they had just cared a little bit."

  • "Went to the Green Room during the restaurant week. The service was impeccable as always. Food was delicious. This is a great restaurant for any special occasion."

  • "Amazing food, better than any place in town. Good portions for the main course surprisingly. But we were not gonna look at the normal menu and try to pay those prices. We will be back for restaurant week though"

  • "A beautiful room, Hotel DuPont and all that. Waiters in black tie, getting orders wrong, bumping into each other (seriously), filling drinks half way and needing to return with the remainder, taking away the wine glasses at the end of dessert (why?). Service wise, the whole thing was just a laugh. The food was old, heavy and borderline horrid. Scallops were rubber and so was the custard dessert. Seriously, the hotel needs to shut this restaurant, think about what they want to be (not who they were 50 years ago) and start over."

  • "Everything, from the appetizers to the main courses was deliciously prepared and presented"

  • "We went for lunch during restaurant week. The food was good and so was the service in terms of speed, which may be related to the time of day and perhaps their usual lunch clients have time constraints. Our first course arrived before we even finished the tasty rolls and butter. The entrees came out quickly after and the server took away my companion's salad plate to place the entree down and then stood waiting while I stuffed salad in my mouth so he could put my plate somewhere. Our portions were generous, the food tasty, and the servers pleasant, but considering the mystique of The Green Room, I had expected more attention to details of the service, in particular the pacing. We will definitely return ~ especially if in a hurry!"

  • "Our family had one of our most memorable dinig experiences ever at the Greem Room two days ago. The room is amazingly baroque and elegant. The service was excelent and frindly. The food was superb. We were the only epole that evening with a smalll child and they treated our four-year-old like a prince (the children's menu is excellent and I recommend popcorn shrimp as eh best choice for children --since I stole many of them from our son)."

  • "The Hotel Du Pont offers old world charm with a sophisticated menu. It is a first class experience with french flair. Highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions or if you just want a nice dinner experience out."

  • "I've been associated with DuPont as an employee and now as a pensioner; so I have a level of pride I expect when I see the Oval. This past Saturday exceeded my expectations. This venue is still the "date night" restaurant in the tri-state area and I pity those who haven't experienced the food, the ambience, and the elegance. Our waiter was a young man named Gabe. He has two years service in this company. I saw my self 43 years ago and I am thrilled - as an/ former employee, a current retiree, and a forever customer that this standard of excellence continues. We will be back! The meals were superb and the little touched - a birthday wish to my wife on the menu - were priceless!"

  • "Choose from 3 Course, 4 Course or A La Carte Menu. Try the Rib Eye Filet...cooked to perfection! The dining room is elegantly furnished with an incredibly ornate ceiling. Live piano music from the loft above. The service is incredible. I highly recommend for a romantic dinner or special occasion."

  • "We had dinner in the Green Room before the play as we usually try to do. The prix fixe 3 course meal was delicious. The parsnip bisque was excellent. I love parsnips and this was as intriguing soup for me to try, not disappointed. Our wait staff was always there when we needed them. The food runner from the kitchen seemed a little inexperienced in the way he delivered the meal, especially the soup, but that is a small quibble and I'm sure corrected with more time in the job.."

  • "I usually love dining at the Green Room. However, my recent lunch was a disappointment. The parsnip bisque was delicious, but the lobster risotto tasted too fishy. I returned it, which is something I rarely do and was offered the buffet instead. I certainly didn't mind that solution. However, the only really tasty item on the buffet was the Caesar salad. Everything else was bland. The service and ambience were great as usual and, of course, the macaroons were delightful."

  • "We went after a matinee at the Playhouse. It is very convenient. The dining room does not . It seemed silly to ask us to wait 15 minutes but they did. The ambience is old world grandeur. The wait staff is well trained but does not seem to handle glitches well. They handed out two different menus so people were ordering things that were not available. Half had the right menu and half had the wrong menu. It just seemed a bit sloppy and it was not handled very well. The food was beautifully prepared and very good. The first wine we ordered from the wine list they were out of and the next one we ordered we had the last bottle so had to switch for a second bottle. All in all a pleasant evening but not up to standards given the price."

  • "The Green Room is unmatched in this area for its friendly, attentive service. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and the waiter remembered our previous visit some time back. We enjoyed the excellent prix fixe menu, which paired very well with the Hotel Dupont centennial wines from Bouchaine. Meat was tender and excellently prepared. At the end of dinner, we were presented a special dessert acknowledging our anniversary. Must dine!"

  • "I can't begin to say enough about how wonderful the food and service are at the Green Room. They don't rush you, much like most European restaurants. They allow you to enjoy the meal."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "The serving staff were very pleasant and attentive. The food was good, although some portions (e.g., the duck) were very small relative to similar fine dining venues in the region. The Green Room itself is a beautiful room, and I recommend it for couples seeking a romantic evening or afternoon. Other than the small portions of some dishes, my only complaint is that the otherwise very pleasant maître d' was nowhere to be found when we attempted to collect our coats on the way out. After several minutes, we attracted the attention of a woman down the hall who was able to get them for us. Although we had a nice time, I'll probably make a reservation elsewhere the next time I want to spend $100 on lunch."

  • "Top-quality food and exceptional service. Lots of little extra touches that made us feel special: personalized menu with our names printed on top, "pre-appetizer" and "pre-dessert" courses (literally just a bite to allow us to sample something different.) Exquisite presentation, superb timing (neither rushed nor too slow) -- and of course, those famous macaroons to top it all off!"

  • "This was our second visit to the Green Room in the last 6 months. We very much enjoyed both times. Our last visit was on 2/21/14. The food, particularly the petite filet mignon, was exceptional and compared well to high-end restaurants we've been to in Las Vegas. The wines we selected, and especially the Hourglass 2011 Merlot, were very good. And the service was both attentive and helpful. We'll be happy to return again!"

  • "My past experience as a young man left anticipation for another wonderful dining moment but that was not to happen. I must say the service was impeccable and ambiance as remembered from long ago and expected the cuisine to live up to that standard. The chef disregarded my request for dietary restrictions such as non-sodium, which ruined the natural flavors of the vegetables and main course. The wilted green salad was soggy and salty, as were my sides with the smashed potatoes being inedible. My last complaint is a complete variance of the actual menu to that presented on the website. We won't return or recommend."

  • "We've attended the Valentine Brunch in the Green Room each year for a decade. We love enjoying a leisure afternoon with out-of-town guests who stay overnight at your hotel. We're able to linger and talk long after we're finished eating. It's not a rushed pace and the food choices are excellent. The Green Room is our 1st choice for an elegant brunch in the greater Philadelphia & Wilmington areas. May our tradition continue and may your establishment continue delighting guests - loyal and new alike."

  • "This was not my first trip to the Green Room so expectations were high. We started the night with an amuse buche, a bit size item that the chef prepares just to amuse. It was tasty and delicate. We followed up with romaine salad, fresh and pleasant. The main course was sable in a lovely broth with bok cho. We skipped desert but still had the opportunity to have a macaroon to top off dinner. The service was attentive and not rushed. We were going to a show at the Playhouse so it was convenient. The price is on the high side but the food is well prepared and served so it is worth it especially for a special occasion."
