Diner Reviews
  • "I've been going to this restaurant for 20 years. It has consistently good food. We've celebrated birthdays here and it's a fun dinner place with entertainment. Try the cold and hot appetizer platters to sample several different and delicious Greek foods."

  • "Great location on the harbor. The food was good and the service was excellent. What set things apart, however, was the fun entertainment. While there was no belly dancing on the night we dined, several of the waiters put on an energetic floorshow that involved almost everyone in the restaurant. Our group was celebrating the end of a trip that had long been planned and the many 18 year old girls in the group enjoyed giggling over the high kicks and the dancing. Lots of fun!"

  • "Unique dining experience, with special Greek / Meditterranean flavor and excellent ambiance right next to all the big boats at the Ventura harbor. Authentic Greek cuisine and atmosphere, including floor shows, belly dancing, and music. Top notch service. Very fast, especially for fine dining."

  • "Love Greek food. Too bad this is the only Greek restaurant in Ventura County."

  • "Hi !!!! I am happy to chosen the restaurant to celebrate my birthday to tell the true I was a little nervous for the bad comments about the service, food but I love Greek Food and I wanted to experience for myself . I do not regret ., everything was amazing !!! thank you for making my birthday dinner awesome ;)"

  • "Food seemed very bland. The best thing were the kids orzo pasta. Dolmas yuck Spanikopita small and over priced. Lentil soup tasted like ranch style beans. Gyros took forever. Awesome location though. "

  • "Had read about the flaming cheese, so we got it. Yum! I got the souvlakis combo (lamb, chicken, filet mignon). The filet was my favorite. My date got the gyros. He felt they had been cooking a little too long. In all, the food was tasty. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Our food did take a little long to come to the table considering the place was not very busy. There were a lot of tables with kids playing around. So I would recommend this restaurant as kid friendly, but not for a romantic dinner for two. "

  • "Wonderful night, we had a great time, food was delicious. Waiter had a hard time keeping up with the amount of people in our party. There was a party of 30 next-door to us, unfortunately we were not able to get our order in before them. We were a party of 10. We ended up waiting almost an hour. We had a cake in the back, ask them to bring it out to us that we could get on with our evening. We had a comedy show to attend. Ended up being late for the show. All in all I would recommend the restaurant however if you are in a hurry I would make sure that you got the waitstaff know your time arrangements."

  • "The food was good and plentiful - go with an appetite. But be sure they check you in on Open Table. We checked in, and they read off our name before we were seated. But then I got a voice message on my phone while we were at dinner that they were going to mark me as a no show! But it's a fun place to dine with a nice view if you sit outside."

  • "Pleasant dining experience for me and fellow group of golf buddies. Prompt service, plenty of food per serving, and efficient process of 6 separate bills for 6 couples. Need to change policy of including the tax in the assessment of the tip- do not include the tax in the tip computation!"

  • "We board a dive boat out of this harbor and it's oh so convenient that we have this wonderful restaurant to fee us too. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The food is really good too."

  • "Be there early around 5:45PM to 6:30PM if you go for dinner."

  • "the lady at the front told us "right this way." As we followed her to be seated, she walked right up to a group who had two tables pushed together and started yelling at them, she ripped the table from them hitting a lady sitting at it. Then looked over at us smiled and told us to sit down. It was embarrassing and awkward. My boyfriend and I apologized to the group that our table was taken from , especially cause we were seated right next to them. Our food took a very long time to come to the table and we had to ask several times for the check. It felt like we could have walked out without paying and nobody would have noticed"

  • "The only two things about this place that I didn't care for was the Gyro plate and their chairs. The Gyros were extremely dry and a bit crunchy, but they give you a nice size portions on all of there plates. the seating was a bit uncomfortable with the patio plastic chairs. However, if you do go you MUST order their Flaming Cheese. Great view of the Harbor and fun entertainment on the weekends with the belly dancer."

  • "It was my fault - I knew they had belly dancing but this seemed the best dining option that evening and I love Greek. To be fair, the service was good, the food was good enough (except for the fish was way over-cooked) but it is discomfiting to be dining with your wife and daughter while trying to evade the attentions of a partially clad belly dancer shaking her bells while you are trying to eat. I guess a lot of people go for that kind of thing but not me."

  • "Although the restaurant sits on the water in a beautiful setting, that is all this restaurant has going for it. The Greek salads are the worst I have ever eaten like a bagged salad from the supermarket with runny feta dressing and a couple of olives. The moussaka was a glop of eggplant and cheese and cold in the middle and totally inedible. The pasta with steak skewer was a huge bowl of pasta with a tiny skewer of tough steak thrown on top. Really pricey and the food is absolutely dreadful! They do have a nice Greek wine list so just order wine and look at the view. Avoid at all costs otherwise!"

  • "Honestly, not much to write home about. IT was decent Greek food (my friend who had been to Greece said that it was really close to what she remembered) and I enjoyed the entertainment. Service was REALLY slow but we weren't in a rush so didn't worry too much."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "Great food! Nice ambience, complete with a belly dancer inside (forgive me if they are not called belly dancers) We sat on the patio, at night, with heaters on, enjoyed the harbor view."

  • "Been to the Greek many times. Food took a long time to come out. Then at the end of the night, we asked for an 'uzo' drink, and i know the waitress heard us, because we spoke about it being very strong. Instead we just got the bill. We were not intoxicated we each just had one drink."

  • "As pescatarians, we have to pass on the meat dishes, but they look and smell really good! Good selection of fresh fish, and the "fish burger" is not ground fish but a nice slab of filet - this night it was cod. The vegetarian meze sampler platter makes a fine lunch for two - have it with a dry white or a light red. Serviceable wine list. The baklava cheesecake is a noteworthy dessert. Get a table on the deck for a view of the harbor and the passersby."

  • "Called ahead for reservations and they had our table ready right next to the dance floor, no waiting. Fast service. We had our wine right away. Ordered the halibut and it was FANTASTIC, the sauce was out of this world. My wife had chicken and it was tender and juicy. The waiter was on top of everything and was fast. The dancing was so much fun to watch! Top it off with some ouzo and a baklava which we shared. Will get our Greek on again soon."

  • "Aside from slow service this place is fun, especially with a large group or here for a celebration. On the weekend, there are belly dancers and the stuff performs as well."

  • "We recently went To Greece and LOVED the food. Thought we would try this restaurant but didn't get our hopes up. We were mistaken. We were a group of 6 and everyone had a delicious meal. I would absolutely go back! As the previous review..the meals take a while to come, but once there..well worth the wait. We missed the belly dancer..but plan on taking friends back."

  • "We were in a group of 9 and ordered the appetizer platter to start with. It is good for 2-3 people and we had to share the small portions in order for everyone to get a taste. Dinner plates were hearty and abundant and almost everyone had food to take home. They had belly dancing during our dinner which was a nice and something different than used to. Overall, we had a good experience during this visit."

  • "Good standard Greek food. Dependable and with good quality. This isn't comparable to the old Papadakis that was in San Pedro, but if you're looking for good authentic Greek food this is a good place to go to. Sit out on the patio and overlook Ventura Harbor and the fishing fleet, sit inside and have your ears blasted by the high volume music. They do have a nightly belly dance show and on occasion the famed wine glass dance. The do an excellent Branzino in the true Greek Island fashion. They also have a nice selection of Greek wines on the menu. Corkage fee is $10."

  • "I'm pretty picky about my Greek food but we thought we'd try The Greek at the Harbor. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent plus we got to see some belly dancing. I would definitely go back and recommend this to others."

  • "Greek restaurant at the Ventura Harbor with a belly dancer for entertainment. The food was delicious and so was the Greek wine from Santorini. That said the service was terrible. It took us over half an hour to order our meal, and an additional 45 minutes for the meal to arrive. At least 3 tables of people left because they were waiting too long."
    Dined on 9/1/2013
  • "The food was almost like mom used to make. The falafel just a tad mushy, but flavorful and delicious. Our waiter was a bit overwhelmed by the two larger tables we (2) were sandwiched between and so we were forgotten at times. While apologies were repeatedly offered, it got to be meaningless. I'd go back, but make sure I had better service. I think he had potential, just too many tables and we were only 2."

  • "We had a good time celebrating a friend's birthday. Belly dancer was good and food was authentic. Had problem with the fact that one person was vegan and the server kept bringing food that had dairy in it, even though we explained that vegan is no dairy or eggs."

  • "Me and my wife decided to have dinner at The Greek at the Harbor after visiting the Greek Festival in Camarillo. We made the reservations on Open Table just about two hours before we ate. We arrived about 15 minutes early and they sat us right away. We started with the Tabouli which was very fresh and it was served with warm pita bread. My wife ordered the Beef Moussaka, which she enjoyed it very much, and it came with a salad, potatoes and carrots. I ordered the Gyros Plate which it also came with a salad, potatoes and carrots. Both dishes were very delicious and very fulfilling. We were a little early for the entertainment, but next time we will arrive late to enjoy it. I highly recommend this to family and friends!"

  • "Food here was authentically Greek flavoured but menu descriptions were also a bit greek! I ended up with a plate of donner kebab meat which the menu described as " steak and and lamb strips". I expected strips of steak and strips of lamb, so was pretty disappointed in my entree. It was noisy for us but would have been fine with a large group."
    Dined on 6/16/2013
  • "Because this was special dinner for my 80 year old father, I didn't want to embarrass my family by sending my food back BUT the spanakopita was very over baked. I would say they probably baked it a day earlier or morning then heated it up. It was very dry inside and the edges. Happy to have had family time in the sea air, and the wait staff were great but I would not go out of my way to eat there again."
    Dined on 6/15/2013
  • "The food really isn't the point here. The food is just fine- actually our waitress pulled off a great Saganaki. The Avgolemono also stood out for its custard-like texture. The wine list is impressive for its holdings from Greece with enough California wines to make sure everyone goes home happy. Virtually all the wines are available by the glass and there are several wine flights to encourage customers to experiment with unfamiliar Greek wines. There is a similarly impressive list of Ouzo, if you want to take it up a notch or three. The wait staff dance throughout the night and some are quite talented. Just don't let the Moussaka get cold watching somebody dance holding three tables in his teeth."

  • "Inattentive, absent service coupled with greasy meats, overly cooked fish, and BBQ sauce on pastichio all are reasons to avoid."

  • "We were very surprised to discover Ventura Harbor and this great Greek restaurant! Thank you Open Table for pointing us in the direction of interesting new restaurants and experiences! We very much enjoyed the kind people at The Greek and the food is authentic to Greek dishes we've had in Athens, Rhodes, Santorini and Mykanos. This is a nice place to enjoy the harbor!"

  • "The Greek is back. We last ate there 12 years ago, it was some of the worst Greek food we had, we eat a lot of Greek food. We decided to try it again and are happy that we did. The menu is better, the wine list has a nice selection of Greek wines on it and the food we well prepared, seasoned and presented. The Branzino was fabulous, the farmers Greek salad was excellent with really fresh Feta and plenty of olives, only thing missing was some pepperoncini's. Sitting on the patio is nice, great view of the Ventura Harbor and people walking along the shore line. It is well protected from the elements as well. Once we got a waiter, the service was good, but it took a while before someone decided to wait on us. Corkage was $10."
