We went to the Grant House for our anniversary. We were seated in a mostly private area with a lot of windows and a great view of Fort Vancouver park. Our server was very sweet and took great care of us. The food was wonderful and served promptly. The Grant House has become one of our favorite date night locations. After dinner, you could choose to walk the trail along the park or just sit outside and enjoy the view.

So glad I discovered Vancouver's special spot! Met a girlfriend for lunch and picked a place about halfway from Portland and Camas. We will be back and are going to bring our husbands for dinner. Eating in a historic place (they print the history inside the menu front cover), adds to the ambience. It is easy to get to off I-5 and Millplain. The park is across the street. You look out the front window at the barracks and there is a scenic trail right out the door where you can walk off your meal. Spinach and artichoke dip was better than others as was the tomato and potato soup. We also had salads that were very good. No room for dessert but we look forward to the next lunch or dinner. It is a spot where I will bring out of town guests, for sure.

We made reservations at the Grant house for a large group, with the intent to treat our out of town speaker to a wonderful local restaurant. The Grant house went out of it's way to accommodate us, as our final numbers were in flux until almost the day of the dinner- but they made it work. In the end we reserved a private room for our dinner and it was completely delightful. The service was stellar, the food was to above and beyond. Our guest speaker (who is a wine buff) is still talking about the wine ( "it was like butter") and said she felt like she was having dinner at the Presidio (and she would know). She is a lover of American history and for us to be able to treat her to a dinner at the Grant house, it like heaven on earth. Thank you Grant House for helping us to bless someone so special to in our lives to a wonderful dinner and for making that suggestion for a private dinning room so that we have have time to share together before a busy weekend. We will be singing our praises for years to come!

Although their cocktail and wine menu was vast, the entree menu comprised one slim page; about 6 items. My salmon was prepared perfectly, but my spouse's schnitzel was dry/overcooked. They brought me the wrong soup and charged me for it in addition to the correct soup (it was corrected on the receipt). Maybe a little too dark in the dining room, too. Thought the meal was overpriced, as well.

Very dissatisfied with this resteraunt. The food was either tasteless, burned or inedible. We ordered of the happy hour menu; flat bread, calamari, sliders and fish tacos. We didn't even eat the fish tacos and only half of the other items. No doggie bags here, we left it for the trash. Beautiful historic setting with so much potential. You expect it to be a fine dinning experience. It's not. But they charge you like it is. Save your money, so many other great places near by. If want to go to see the historical building, just get a drink at bar and stay away from anything that comes out of the kitchen. 50$ gone and we left hungry and had to stop by Burgerville on the way home, spending even more money.

I loved the food - had the quiche with salad and fruit for lunch. The quiche crust was the best - not soggy like you get elsewhere. The salad with cranberries and goat cheese was perfect and tasty. The grapes and watermelon was fresh. Wine and cocktails - perfect temp and taste. The patio was a beautiful place to eat -quiet, clean. The service was perfect too. I just love this place!

I asked for a quiet setting as we had business to discuss. We were placed in a small and comfortable room with one other table occupied by 2 women. Excelent location and we were able to conduct our discussions in normal voices and without interference. Food was good; nothing outstanding. The setting is superb as it is a reminder of our American history and the elegance of the past. Service was excellent, attentive, friendly and pleasant.

The dinner menu was better than I had expected, and the preparations took into account all personal preferences. Only one caution - the caramel sauce on the bread pudding is extremely rich, almost too much to eat, with a slightly scorched taste. All the rest of the food was great, and period cocktails were appropriate.

Two of us attended the special "Tea and Colonial Stroll" luncheon event. We had a great table on the porch with a clear view of the strollers in their colonial finery as they passed on the sidwalk. The food was good as always. The strollers were many and beautifully costumed. They wandered among the tables talking with the diners as though they were really people of colonial times. They described their role in colonial society and answered questions about their outfits. Some were so convincing you could almost imagine they had just stepped out of the past. One talked with great enthusiasm about her upcoming trip to Boston where so much of history was being made. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Scott Law played guitar and sang outside on the porch during dinner. He added a special touch to a lovely setting. It would have been enough to just sit there and listen to him. He made the experience wonderful, not the food. Dining service was spotty and huge portions were way overpriced for what was served.

My son and I had lunch on the porch on a beautiful August afternoon. I made a note on OpenTable when I made the reservation that we wanted to sit outside and that we needed a gluten free menu. They took us outside and brought us a gluten free menu without having to ask. That was impressive! The ambiance was quiet and calm the food was great but the service was a bit slow but friendly.I would definitely come back for a summer lunch and in the winter for a dinner inside.I do recommend.

We dined on a quiet Wednesday evening, lovely weather but my companions preferred inside. The Grant House had a singer and guitar player on the deck outside (which was very nice); we were seated inside but in the corner nearest them, so the restaurant music competed with the outdoor music. The menu has a lot of promise and good selections for my four-year old. I had the watermelon and tomato salad, the tomatoes were a bit mushy but good overall flavor. The shrimp was good but the ravioli was slightly underdone. My husband's chicken was excellent, my daughter's sliders were almost inedible due to overcooking. Chocolate cake and peach cobbler were both fantastic. Service was quite slow and we had to flag our server down for drink refills.

Garden Room or Patio is a perfect setting for a nice day. Main dining room is dark, but ok for dinner. Three of us got quiche which was good but not extraordinary. It came with small green salad and fruit. Fruit was just watermelon-still on rind and 2 stems of grapes. With all of the good fruit in season, thought it could have been a bit more varied. Other in our party got a chicken sandwich which he said was good. Two in our party ordered a dessert to split and even tho they were across from each other, she did not bring a second plate-just an extra fork. Not a big deal but would have been easier for sharing. However waitress was pleasant and the ambience here is great for visiting and enjoying the gardens.

Can't say enough about this awesome restaurant. Quiet with a wonderful ambiance, beautiful view. We sat on the veranda and felt like we were the only diners there, which was not the case. but the neatest part is the ambience. Bring your wine vocabulary to impress your date, because there's quite a selection. In fact, the wine selection far out-numbers the food menu. A quiet walk in the open grassy park across the street added to our experience - weather was favorable and the sun was setting. Upstairs is basically the same as downstairs, but with a members-only label. It does get used. The staff was nice enough to let us take a peek. Because weather was so nice, most all guests chose to eat outdoors and we were alone inside. What a nice experience.

My book group loves coming to the Grant House for happy hour. I have also come with other friends and had a very good time. However, i came with my card group last Friday, and it was my idea to come to The Grant House, and we had wonderful food. However, the service was really bad especially when the waiter said "you're going to have a wait to get a refill of coffee". The ladies asking for a refill never did get their coffee. What was interesting was two men sitting at the next table remarked to us, as we were leaving, "If we were you ladies, we wouldn't return to this restaurant with the way you were treated." Now I have reservations for next Thursday for a friend having a birthday, but I am thinking of changing restaurants.

We, a party of 4 were not impressed with our meals... my sister was in restaurant business 34+ years and ordered Risotto ... not great. I had been a waiter in a high-end restaurant in Los Angeles and my roasted chicken sandwich on focaccia bread was good, but my small vegetable soup was just passable. My wife ordered White Shrimp and Raviola, and all of us were NOT impressed when the server brought it out ... BIG PLATE, with very tiny servings of ravioli and vegetables ... the kind of thing we all mention on internet. My Brother-in-law got the we will go elsewhere for lunch next time.

I enjoy going to see Doug Smith, grammy award winning guitarist. Usually he plays in their tiny bar, but this time the weather was perfect so he played on their wide front porch. Lovely time. They used to have happy hour til 6pm but they changed it to 5 apparently so I wasn't prepared to pay so much. For my 5 leaves of butter lettuce with candied pork belly pieces and vinaigrette (tasty), my bowl of soup (just okay, and no bread or anything served with) and my bread pudding (yummy but like a carmel roll)), and just water to drink, plus tip (not including the tip for Doug) and tax the bill was about $25. Definitely don't go if you're in a hurry...but if you want a relaxed evening with decent food in a charming atmosphere, it's a good choice.

The Grant House is such a gem, the setting, the service and the food. Well, maybe not the food. The food is average or below average for the Portland area. I few problems noted: poor or lack of seasoning, quiche was day-old and warmed up, fruit lacked any imagination, the fruit crisp was warmed rhubarb sauce with uncooked oatmeal sprinkled on top (really??) why would a chef serve that? Does the Grant House have a chef or just a cook who warms things up. Where is Gordon Ramsey when you need him?

This historic site was ideal for afternoon tea outside in the gardens. This special event included a guest speaker and all the guests wore hats. Great fun! Because the Grant House is located near an airfield, planes did fly over head and the noise was evident. However, it didn't take away from the ambiance....since we all knew the airport was nearby. The 3 course high tea was generous. I suggest that the servers, in the future, fill the tea cups completely so the guests, if they desire, can add a whole sugar cube. The garden atmosphere was absolutely lovely as were the tables. We were seated with two other guests and had a great time getting acquainted. Guests were sent home with a small favor bag filled with treats....how thoughtful!

Always love going to the Grant House because of the location. Service is always great and most times the food has been better than average. Did not feel that way this time. The steak was not cooked to order, the bean risotto was a bit overkill, the bread was really stale and the seasoning lacking. However on the plus side, the salads and desserts were very good.

Lovely building, landscaping, ambiance. Food very average, service somewhat dull. We were 3 women at our table, and noticed that the waitress was much more attentive to tables with men. I had ordered tea, their teapot leaked all over the table, I asked for a towel and was treated rudely. I'd possibly go again just for the history, but prefer better food and service.

This is a beautiful setting and the service was great. Pork chop and ravioli dinners were good...not outstanding for the price. Desserts were a real disappointment; the carrot cake was a carrot cupcake cut in half with frosting, fruit crumble just okay. We were there for an early dinner on Thursday evening. The music and bar seemed to be where customers were...the setting goes a long way, but I hope the dishes prove a bit more interesting if we choose to try it again.

This was a delayed anniversary celebration. The food was EXCELLENT (as it has been when we've been there in the past). Interesting dishes, well prepared. I had the smoked chicken with couscous for dinner. Fabulous. And the bread pudding for dessert was to die for. We'll go back again soon, even without a special occasion. I like that the dining areas are fairly small--just 4-5 tables per room, so that the noise level is very low and we could easily hear each other. We ate on the sun porch and watched the sun, then rain, then sun (this is Vancouver, after all).

I came early for dinner before some Nerium meetings and loved the history of the house and surrounding buildings. It was so beautiful and quaint. The food I got was delicious.

My first trip to Grant House was this past Thursday because of the live music playing that night. The food was a bit on the spendy side for Vancouver but the fish was fabulous! A real treat! The music was played on the porch and the weather was beautiful so overall the setting was about as good as it could ever be. I really commend them for bringing an artist the caliber of Tom May to sing too. He made the evening a memorable one.
