Diner Reviews
  • "This historic site was ideal for afternoon tea outside in the gardens. This special event included a guest speaker and all the guests wore hats. Great fun! Because the Grant House is located near an airfield, planes did fly over head and the noise was evident. However, it didn't take away from the ambiance....since we all knew the airport was nearby. The 3 course high tea was generous. I suggest that the servers, in the future, fill the tea cups completely so the guests, if they desire, can add a whole sugar cube. The garden atmosphere was absolutely lovely as were the tables. We were seated with two other guests and had a great time getting acquainted. Guests were sent home with a small favor bag filled with treats....how thoughtful!"

  • "Food a cut above casual dining. Service was excellent without intrusive hovering. And prices lower than I'd expected."

  • "Always love going to the Grant House because of the location. Service is always great and most times the food has been better than average. Did not feel that way this time. The steak was not cooked to order, the bean risotto was a bit overkill, the bread was really stale and the seasoning lacking. However on the plus side, the salads and desserts were very good."

  • "Four of us came here based on TA reviews. Grant House lived up to expectations. We ate outdoors, next to garden area...so nice we lingered a while after our meal. Everyone got different entrees, which were all excellent. Particular raves on the huge pork chop! Highly recommend. Though it's fine dining, casual attire is fine."

  • "We always bring our visitors to The Grant House. They all enjoyed the food, service and music. We should have arrived earlier to enjoy the guitarist that evening. We think ending the music at 8 was too earlier, maybe 8.30."

  • "The weather was perfect, garden was beautiful, food was delicious. Very relaxing!"

  • "Lovely building, landscaping, ambiance. Food very average, service somewhat dull. We were 3 women at our table, and noticed that the waitress was much more attentive to tables with men. I had ordered tea, their teapot leaked all over the table, I asked for a towel and was treated rudely. I'd possibly go again just for the history, but prefer better food and service."

  • "This is a beautiful setting and the service was great. Pork chop and ravioli dinners were good...not outstanding for the price. Desserts were a real disappointment; the carrot cake was a carrot cupcake cut in half with frosting, fruit crumble just okay. We were there for an early dinner on Thursday evening. The music and bar seemed to be where customers were...the setting goes a long way, but I hope the dishes prove a bit more interesting if we choose to try it again."

  • "This was a delayed anniversary celebration. The food was EXCELLENT (as it has been when we've been there in the past). Interesting dishes, well prepared. I had the smoked chicken with couscous for dinner. Fabulous. And the bread pudding for dessert was to die for. We'll go back again soon, even without a special occasion. I like that the dining areas are fairly small--just 4-5 tables per room, so that the noise level is very low and we could easily hear each other. We ate on the sun porch and watched the sun, then rain, then sun (this is Vancouver, after all)."

  • "I came early for dinner before some Nerium meetings and loved the history of the house and surrounding buildings. It was so beautiful and quaint. The food I got was delicious."

  • "My first trip to Grant House was this past Thursday because of the live music playing that night. The food was a bit on the spendy side for Vancouver but the fish was fabulous! A real treat! The music was played on the porch and the weather was beautiful so overall the setting was about as good as it could ever be. I really commend them for bringing an artist the caliber of Tom May to sing too. He made the evening a memorable one."

  • "We had a wonder 50th anniversary celebration on June 14th at the Grant House. They allowed our children to decorate with personal touches and bring in a cake from an outside bakery. The wait staff graciously cut and served the cake. The wait staff was outstanding very pleasant and very attentive to all our needs. The food was good but steaks were under cooked for med well. The sliders on the children's menu had too much sauce actually ketchup on the side would have been a better choice. Prices were a little on the high side at that price I would have thought the main course selections would have included soup or salad."

  • "We love this restaurant as a date night, though we have been there for lunch. The food is great, we love the desserts, it is always quiet enough to really feel like you can really have a good conversation, and when the weather is nice, you can sit outdoors and enjoy the view. The staff is always friendly and attentive, but not too much."

  • "Staff friendly and helpful but a touch short out on the porch at times between 5:30 and 7:30 pm. Wine list good but prices over-inflated---especially by the glass for local wines. The by-the-bottle mark up for commonly found wines was 3 times the market price---a bit too much. Appetizers delicious. Dessert portion scant considering the $8 fee---very "skinny" slice of chocolate cake. Espresso and coffee were luke warm---would have been much more enjoyable IF the beverages were hot."

  • "The spinach dip and chocolate truffle cake were good. The fish & chips and chicken salad sandwich were bland. The place is charming. Prices are reasonable. The waitress was energetic. She didn't know much about the Grant House, but she brought us a sheet that explained more. We were hoping we'd found a place to bring out-of-town guests. We were disappointed with the entrees."

  • "Enjoyed the historic and romantic ambience, with a nice menu. Good selection of local wines. Have wanted to drive down here from the Tacoma area where we live to dine here for years, and finally did, over a long weekend. Worth the trip!"

  • "We sat on the outside patio and it was a lovely evening. The live music was great. Service was very slow and they were understaffed. Food was good and a good value for the price. Nice wine list!"

  • "Just enjoyed a wonderful Mother's Day Brunch at the Grant House. I made reservations and the table was waiting for us upon arrival. The food and service was amazing. I dined with my son and brother and sister in-law who were visiting me from Wisconsin. Beautiful atmosphere and the four of us had a lovely time together. After brunch we went outside and took pictures. "

  • "We went to the Grant House for Mother's Day brunch and it could not have been a better experience. The food was fantastic and plentiful."

  • "Our food was good. Our drinks were poor. Whoever the bar tender is needs to taste what they serve. Maybe the bar tender was our server that night. Speaking of servers, ours was abrupt, unfriendly and seemed annoyed we were there. It was decent service but cold. For the cost of our dinner and drinks we expect better and much more friendly service. The balance between them was poor. "

  • "We had a group of 14 with the facility all to ourselves. It seems that the breakfast numbers were too erratic so they have decided to discontinue breakfast. However, they were honoring our reservation which is why we were the only diners. Everyone really liked the ambience and I heard no complaints concerning the food. Hopefully they will rethink breakfast and include it as a venue again. I think they just need to be better at advertising that breakfast is served! So for now, breakfast is no more and they will be doing occasional special occasion brunches. "

  • "Very relaxing, peaceful setting. Sun was shining so we could enjoy the outdoor patio. Great place to unwind with friends after work. Service is friendly and prompt. Appetizers were good. Calamari could have a bit more kick in the accompanying aoili. "

  • "My family had Easter brunch at the Grant House. It was our first time dining there and I will be back. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The quality of food was good, the only downfall was that we had to go up and down the stairs to the buffet. My kids found plenty of things they liked to eat which was nice. I'd love to go back for lunch and eat on their wonderful patio."

  • "I've been to The Grant House for dinner and Easter brunch. For being a house it had a cozy atmosphere without ever feeling crowded. The food is delicious with options that make it difficult to choose just one. And the staff is always very courteous, helpful and informative regarding the history of the area. "

  • "We were anticipating a lovely Easter brunch. The cost was expensive for us but we thought the food would be worth it. The brunch disappointed. There weren't many choices so for $50 I had some scrambled eggs, bacon, a salmon caesar salad and a couple shrimps and a glass of champagne. Not really worth it. I'm glad we went since it was on our list of things we wanted to do, but I won't go back."

  • "Historical Grant House on Officers Row of Ft. Vancouver is a peaceful and scenic site for dinner or lunch. The food is tasty and well prepared, the service excellent, and the surroundings a step back into Northwest History. Everyone should take the opportunity to soak in the ambience of this local gem convenient to both Vancouver and Portland, OR."

  • "The Grant House is a beautiful restaurant housed in a historic building on Officers' Row adjacent to Fort Vancouver Historic Site. The menu is somewhat small but very well-executed and the service was friendly, solicitous and enthusiastic. Grant House is a great place for a family dinner but would be equally impressive for entertaining on a business lunch or dinner. Beautiful location, good food and great service."

  • "A very nice place in the restaurant wasteland of Vancouver (WA). Very nicely prepared piece of salmon served with wild rice cakes and roasted vegetables. The vegetable cassoulet was extremely tasty but was a rather small portion--should have asked for seconds, I guess. The shared winter salad was good and served as a split salad on separate plates. The bread pudding dessert was served in a molded form as opposed to the more normal loosely cake form. A nice place to dine!"

  • "My Fiancé and I went to the Grant House for dinner on Saturday evening. This was our first time dinning at The Grant House and I gotta say that we were both very impressed. We were greeted at the door with warmth and shown to our table. Our waitress introduced herself ( I cant remember her name So Sorry) but she was extremely polite , upbeat and friendly. We ordered our meals and had a few drinks ..The food was delicious and the atmosphere is very warm and inviting. The pricing is a little on the high side , however if you want a great evening with someone special or with friends I would highly recommend The Grant House. Thanks, Impressed"
