The Grant HouseAlways NiceI have been to the Grant house several times with a friend to just sit and enjoy a nice Scotch. The appetizers are wonderful and the atmosphere is great. When I was finally able to take my wife for our anniversary, I wasn't suprised that the dinner was top notch and the service was excellent. There was music on the lawn in the front of the house and the view during sunset was fantastic. This is our third visit to GH and it's always been exceptional. It's typically inviting, with a warm ambiance, quiet (NO pulsing techno music over the PA ...thank God!). I went there with my mom because I had a PDX rewards coupon which was great because I probably would never pay the prices they charge for dinner. I would definitely go back for lunch or brunch because the prices seemed reasonable, but I would not do dinner again unless I got another coupon. Beautiful dining room and bar. The only bad thing we had happen was when we walked in the hostess immediately seated us in the dining room and then the couple who came in right after us were given the choice of the dining room or sun room. We totally would have sat in the sun room had we known a table was available. The only reason we could not give this an excellent is that the portions for each entree were a bit scant. For instance, there were only five raviolis. They, however, were excellent as were the salmon and chicken dishes. The ambiance is unbeatable. The entree portions are small, sold individually, and they are very expensive. One small portion of lasagna, and my wife had the manicotti, we each had a salad two classes of wine and since we were with a group of 6 they put a 20% tip built into our bill of $100.97.

Vancouver last week on our way to one of our favorite destinations for a casual meal with a view (McMenamins Vancouver). We noticed a sandwich board out front advertising breakfast, and thought we'd look into it a bit more. An internet search revealed mostly favorable reviews and an appealing menu. Our initial thoughts were "Is it too good to be true?", and "Why haven't we heard about this place?" After an absolutely wonderful dinner last evening in celebration of my mother's birthday, I can tell you the only reason I would want The Grant House to continue as "Vancouver's Best Kept Secret" is to make sure there's always a table available for me!
