Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I were married at the Grant House two years ago and returned to celebrate our anniversary. The food is outstanding, the people wonderful and extremely accomodating. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Love it here. Had our wedding at the grant house. Such a special place for us. Great food and wonderful service every time."

  • "A very nice place in the restaurant wasteland of Vancouver (WA). Very nicely prepared piece of salmon served with wild rice cakes and roasted vegetables. The vegetable cassoulet was extremely tasty but was a rather small portion--should have asked for seconds, I guess. The shared winter salad was good and served as a split salad on separate plates. The bread pudding dessert was served in a molded form as opposed to the more normal loosely cake form. A nice place to dine!"

  • "Historical Grant House on Officers Row of Ft. Vancouver is a peaceful and scenic site for dinner or lunch. The food is tasty and well prepared, the service excellent, and the surroundings a step back into Northwest History. Everyone should take the opportunity to soak in the ambience of this local gem convenient to both Vancouver and Portland, OR."

  • "The Grant House is a beautiful restaurant housed in a historic building on Officers' Row adjacent to Fort Vancouver Historic Site. The menu is somewhat small but very well-executed and the service was friendly, solicitous and enthusiastic. Grant House is a great place for a family dinner but would be equally impressive for entertaining on a business lunch or dinner. Beautiful location, good food and great service."

  • "This is my second time in a month eating to Grant House. Both times have had Jake. He is excellent server: personable, engaging (but not too much) and very aware of our needs. 5+ stars"

  • "My Fiancé and I went to the Grant House for dinner on Saturday evening. This was our first time dinning at The Grant House and I gotta say that we were both very impressed. We were greeted at the door with warmth and shown to our table. Our waitress introduced herself ( I cant remember her name So Sorry) but she was extremely polite , upbeat and friendly. We ordered our meals and had a few drinks ..The food was delicious and the atmosphere is very warm and inviting. The pricing is a little on the high side , however if you want a great evening with someone special or with friends I would highly recommend The Grant House. Thanks, Impressed"

  • "Five of us had breakfast at the Grant House recently. For several of us it was our first time there. The food was absolutely fantastic and the Illy coffee was wonderful. Fresh ingredients and lots to choose from on the menu. We will definitely be going back to try lunch and maybe dinner. The setting is just so beautiful and we can't wait to try it in summertime since it has such a beautiful outdoor setting too."

  • "Being from Alaska and having the opportunity to feast on salmon cooked perfectly, my husband and I are skeptical when salmon is on a menu, fearing it will be overcooked and dry. We took a chance and both ordered salmon - my husband ordered off the menu and I chose the special. We were pleasantly surprised to find our salmon nicely crusted on the outside and deliciously moist on the inside. We definitely recommend the salmon! We tip our hat to the chef."

  • "Drove up from lake Oswego specifically to listen to advertised Celtic music. instead we go "Hill-Billy" (not even good Country). Food was very disappointing - a surprise since we have eaten at the Grant House over many years and found the food to be good."

  • "Exceptional food, a little spendy, but makes for a great memory on a special occasion. We love history, so we loved that the waiter (Jake) gave us some history on the place and area. When making reservations, make sure there is not a huge party planned - parking can fill up, especially around the dinner hour."

  • "We opted to have a special dinner for Valentine's day the day after thinking we would find less crowds and it worked for us. The atmosphere was great, the location was cute, it was a new place for us so it was fun. There had been a power outage earlier and I think it may have thrown them off their game a bit in the kitchen. My husband's burger was over done and my ravioli was boarding lukewarm. We will for sure give them another try, everyone has an off night and we liked the intimacy and romantic atmosphere we experienced."

  • "My husband & I went to the Grant House for our Valentine's Day celebration dinner & loved the quaint & romantic ambiance of this great old home/restaurant. The service was wonderful & the food was a good combination of surf & turf that both of us were able to try each others meal from the set menu & not feel as if we were missing out on something. We are new to the Vancouver area & actually chose the restaurant not only for its menu options but for the beautiful surroundings and reviews of previous diners on the website. Thanks for a grand evening & we'll be back again. "New in Vancouver""

  • "The place was fully booked because I inadvertently booked the wrong date for Valentine's Day. The accommodated us by putting us in the bar. When we arrived a blue grass band was playing and the energy was great. We enjoyed a 5 course meal while what looked like a close knit group enjoyed music. Before the band left a banjo player stayed and played a few songs with Jon Taylor, the proprietor, I believe. Just a solid and unexpectedly dynamic night."

  • "Everything about our lunch was enjoyable. It started with the email reminder for our reservation including a map and optional directions. The ambiance of the Grant House is wonderful, very cozy yet genteel. Service was great. All of our main courses were delicious, even the 4 year old loved her macaroni and cheese. The desserts were fantastic. Not a drop was left."

  • "We had dinner at The Grant House because we were having a business meeting later that evening and wanted to have dinner first. The Grant House is a historic building on Officer's Row in Vancouver so there is a lot of history in this I believe the oldest building on the Row. The food was outstanding, my husband had the salmon and I had the cassoulet which was a vegan bean dish and it was also outstanding with fabulous leftovers I am enjoying at this moment as I write my review. We will definitely be going again."

  • "Nicely done dishes in a wonderful old house setting. Good portions of flavorful dishes served with attentiveness made this a nice quiet celebration for my wife's birthday."

  • "The Grant House provided our group with an interesting and varied menu. The food was tasty and well presented. They have a great selection of cocktails and wines. The historical setting is fun and rather funky in a comfortable way. All in all it was a good experience and we'll go back to The Grant House in the future."

  • "still not at full potential. A great historic setting, but uneven food. Desert not fully cooked. Calamari and flat bread however were really excellent, nice sauces. Still missing a bit of something to be consistently excellent"

  • "The chef has great food and offer a gf menu. Make sure you indicate to the server u r gluten free. They have 2 menus and some items r made both ways. Calamari is one of them and u want to make sure the server orders the correct one."

  • "My wife and I love going to the grant house. The menu isn't huge but it provides enough variety (plenty of items I can't pronounce). Every time we have been it has been quiet enough to have a conversation. There is also a coupon in the payback book that elementary kids sell. The only reason I gave it four stars overall was due to the temperature. My wife had her coat on the entire meal."

  • "We had a lovely 5 course dinner on New Year's Eve. The food was all very good; we enjoyed a very nice wine; our server was attentive and friendly. Overall a good experience except for one item: When the bill arrived, our $48 bottle of wine was charged at $63. We questioned the item on the bill and it was corrected. Our server told us that the price of that wine had been increased in their computer (by $15!) but the wine menu had not been changed. If that is a normal practice, and not a single time aberration, diners are advised to look over the bill VERY carefully, particularly if wine was ordered."

  • "Went to The Grant House for the first time to have lunch. The staff was quite pleasant. We were promptly seated (having been offered a couple of choices of tables). The menu, while not extensive, had several appealing dishes. The menu had an enormous multi-page wine list. A mistake in the preparation of my partner's meal (a chicken salad was minus the chicken) was immediately noticed by the server -- who promptly went back to the kitchen and returned with the chicken on a plate-- with much apology. At the time of our visit, the restaurant was about half full but was very quiet, allowing easy conversation. As we were leaving, we discovered that if we wanted bread, we needed to ask for it. It would have been nice to have known that up front."

  • "The setting is relaxing/comfortable and in a park. The service has been excellent and the food good. The portions fill you up and the prices are moderate for this type of establishment. Basic food that is done well and with delicious desserts."

  • "My girlfriends and I enjoyed a lovely holiday lunch at the Grant House. The food was excellent and the service was very good. I was a little concerned about my choice before going after viewing the menu on line, as I thought I wanted a more "gourmet" experience, but the options and food quality turned out to be "fit for foodies". We had a great experience, and I would recommend this restaurant to my friends."

  • "This restaurant is the perfect place to take your holiday guests and enjoy an excellent meal in a beautiful location. With all the stress of the holiday prep this was the perfect solution for all. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and quiet conversation as we reminisced. We will definitely do this again and recommend it to other families as well looking for a restful experience for their entertaining needs."

  • "If you are a fan of history, this is the place to enjoy it and a good meal. The Grant House restaurant sits on the historic Fort Vancouver property and is easy to fine a block off I5. Pleasant and fast reception, excellent wait staff. My choice of meal was not the best, but everyone around me had great looking food fish and chips, salads, and sandwiches. The decoration, which is true to the period of U S Grant, are priceless. A good dining experience."

I am very grateful that we were able to have the room early for our meeting and that we had a room upstairs just for us. Our server was very good !!!!! • "This was my first visit and I brought my daughter (mid 30's), who is a foody. We loved the cuisine, though it was only warm by the time it arrived. We loved the ambiance and the feeling of history. There was a group nearby, but the tables are spaced well, so we had a great sense of privacy. It is a place I would recommend. I only hope to have better service next time. Thank you."
