The first time I went to this restaurant was approximately 15-20 years ago while attending a conference at The Abbey. I have been back every year since, but now bring others with me to share in the ambiance of this wonderful restaurant. It's a little pricey, but everything about it is totally worth it. They allowed us to stay and visit for almost 3 hours. Unheard of at other places. We came from Schaumburg, IL and Madison, WI.

Adequate restaurant - food is OK, interior decor is dated, view during daytime is nice (but irrelevant at night), service is reasonable. Seems to work for the senior crowd, but others may want to look elsewhere.

We started with cocktails, they are top-shelf, for an appetizer we ordered the Calamari which was fresh served on a bed of mixed greens and a light dressing. We had soup, salad with our main entrée; I ordered the swordfish, my husband had the steak and everything was cooked just right and deliciously.

Of course, this must have been the perfect time of year to enjoy the beautiful view, as we enjoyed our annual visit with my cousin & his wife, who live in the area. The food was enjoyed by all of us, & the service was very good also. We also enjoyed the fact that we did not feel rushed to leave the area, since we were so busy "catching up" on our lives, we lost track of time.

The Geneva Inn is a hidden gem located on the waters of Lake Geneva, IL. It is lovely place to enjoy a quiet brunch with family and friends. The tiered seating faces the lake so you can't find a bad view. The food was wonderful, fairly large portions and a varied menu. We did the four course brunch, each ordered something different, and shared. It isn't some place I would take small children and it seemed to generally cater to a slightly older crowd. We arrived at 11:00 on a Sunday and by 1:00 when we left there was a waiting list. The decor is a bit dated - it could use a refresh in that area but perhaps that would take away from the charm.

We met friends there for dinner. The dinner salads were fresh with tasty dressings. I loved the creamy cucumber dressing. Our group had the duck (which was a special that night), salmon and bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. The duck was excellent -- not over cooked, very moist and tender. The pork dish also received rave reviews. but the salmon was a bit dry.

A table by the window has a great view of Lake Geneva. The menu is pretty standard and expensive. Service was adequate-but when I sent my gulyas soup away after one taste because it had no taste-no one apologized or took it off our bill. We both ordered lamb shanks and learned 10 minutes later they didn't have them. I tried the lamb chops and asked that they please not be over cooked-they were pretty much raw. I guess the server wasn't happy with us after the rejection of the soup. The restaurant was quiet-but there was a TV in the adjacent bar visible and audible in the dining area tuned to a football game-kind of a low brow touch for a nice place.

Great menu with numerous choices which appeal to a large variety of diners. It has been a few years since we visited, and I expected a better dressed crowd, but all were well behaved. Piano music was lovely and the view of the lake can't be beat. We were celebrating an anniversary, and there was a lovely note from the staff wishing us well. A nice treat.

I took a party of six of all ages to the Grandview on Sunday, September 14, 2014. I had read mixed reviews of the food and service, but my sister wanted a view of Lake Geneva, and this is the only choice. We were all delighted with everything. My sister lives in San Francisco and travels the world, so she knows her restaurants; she was impressed. I had the excellent wild caught Alaska salmon, my wife's tenderloin filet was so good that she forgot to give our four-year-old a taste. The salads were excellent, so was the artichoke and crab fondue. Service was as close to perfect as possible. Because the season is at an end and we went at 5:30 PM, the restaurant wasn't crowded and the view was great. Excellent wine. Pricey, but worth it.

This is an annual pilgrimage for us, great food and great view of Lake Geneva. The design maximizes access to the view, with probably half of the tables right by the window. Service (food arrival) was just a little slow this time because of a large group arriving before us, but Rick our server never got lost or ignored us. We both loved our entrees, scallops for her, lamb chops for me. Only very minor disappointment was that they wouldn't substitute the twice baked potato for my smashed potatoes, but you can't have everything. We'll be back again for our anniversary next year.

Our evening was memorable with fantastic food. However, at 09:30pm, when a party of +58 were seated all around our table of 4, it was definitely time for our departure. Very loud and had obviously been partying elsewhere before their Geneva Inn arrival. They were all late middle aged and rude.

We have been to the Grandview many times over several years. IL for lunch. Yesterdays service was unacceptable.. Our soups were tasty but barely warm. Our steak slider was over cooked . Asked for the sauce to be on the side, it was topped on the steak. Were not informed about choice of potato; would have preferred sweet potato fries rather than plain fries. Our salad dressings, which we requested on the side did not arrive until we consumed most of the salad. Our main dishes were plopped down on the table before our appetizer plates were removed thus making for a crowded, messy looking table. Will be back? Absolutely, we will not allow one poor experience keep us from what usually is a pleasant and rewarding experience.

We have been coming to Grandview for years. Sunday brunch is a positive experience. Champagne/sparkling grape juice- great. There is fruit and sweet bread. Salmon cakes are a treat. Blueberry cornmeal pancake is good, but suspect the blueberries were frozen. Great window view. No special food consideration or candle for birthday, was a disappointment. There was a wedding outside later, and few waitresses created a less than optimal experience. Waitstaff was overwhelmed, doing the best they could with walkin customers. We were not quite done at the table, and manager requested we leave so other customers could have table. Grandview hospitality is changing. One reason to drive from Chicago is to savor view and food.

Picked the restaurant because of the peoples review. But Everyone has their own opinion. The ambiance was dated, the view of the lake was the only thing I will recommend. The food was over priced for its quality if there was any. Ordered margherita flat bread it came out cold and soggy. The steak has funky taste to it. The staff was atleast good. If you are looking for good view then go but dont expect the food to be excelllent.

We were seated promptly, but after 5 min the hostess came back to tell us the server was busy with a large group. She should have taken our drink order and brought it to us, she didn't and we waited until the server could get to us :-( The large group was much too loud and should have been asked to use indoor voices by mgmt! The food was plated nicely but the Salmon lacked flavor and the NY Strip had little flavor and was doused with a sauce that ruined the steak. The server never mentioned the sauce. The asparagus was a little overcooked and also lacked the flavor we paid for. Also, the prices are 4 star prices for 2 star results. We'll pass on future "special event meals" at the Grandview -just have a cocktail at the bar or patio.
