  • "Just about everything was perfect-from the perfect welcome. the perfect setting, and the superb food to the ambiance and the overwhelming surrounding of the Metropolitan Opera. Could not have been a better evening. Kudos to the management and the staff!"

  • "Last Saturday night was my first experience at the Grand Tier Restaurant and I am pleased to say that it was lovely from start to finish. The service was excellent and the food was very good. The only exception was the gnocchi appetizer that was basically a salad with gnocchi in it rather than what was described on the menu. If one is attending a performance at the Met it is the perfect place to have dinner since it makes for a relaxing meal that allows for plenty of time to enjoy without having to rush from one location to another. It truly enhanced our enjoyment of the Opera. I will definitely be back."

  • "I made the reservation there to assure I would be done in time for the performance. I was very pleasantly impressed with the service and food."

  • "This restaurant is a specialty restaurant at the Metropolitan Opera. All of the diners have tickets for the opera of the evening. Our reservations were early enough to have an enjoyable, relaxing dinner. Unfortunately, the waiter did not take our order for at least ten minutes after we were seated and service in general was slow. We did not have time for coffee or dessert. It would seem that waiters and the kitchen would be more responsive to time constraints."

  • "Best place to dine before the opera. Service excellent and well-timed. No stress in being late for the performance. Love dessert at intermission."

  • "I enjoyed the seating and the view at Grand Tier, but as luck would have it the sun was just hitting the buildings and reflecting the bright sun directly into my face at the 5:30pm time frame. Not a pleasant experience. The table service was excellent and our server was very helpful and kind. The food was above par, but, smaller in portion size than I expected. Everything was done very nicely and I believe everyone there knows what they are doing. Be prepared to dress nicely. I mean men usually wear suits or a least a good sport coat especially in the evening. Dinner with drinks will be pricey - hundreds of dollars for two. Be prepared."

  • "We went as a special treat, we travelled from Dubai via UK to see the opera and have dinner. It was worth every mile in that 747. Lovely food, nice service and good wine, not too expensive either. Can we come again please."

  • "Always look forward to eating at the Grand Tier Restaurant before the opera or ballet. Beautiful setting with tables spaced apart so you don't hear anybody else's conversation. Yes, they could change the menu a bit more often (guess they don't get that many regulars like us) but the food is always very tasty -- appetizer, main course and dessert. Service has always been excellent."

  • "We had a wonderful meal and enjoyed ourselves very much!"

  • "We had a table for two at 11:30 am before a 1:00 pm opera at the MET (in the same building as The Grand Tier). This should leave over an hour to eat. We felt rushed by our server to order. We ordered a main course and dessert. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was very good. We took our time eating it. We were finished and had our check in 40-45 minutes. I'm not sure what the rush was given that everyone eating there at this time is going to the opera at 1:00. In observing the restaurant from our seats, we could see that not each server behaved this way. So we may have just been unlucky. For this price and location we expected more. We enjoyed the opera much more than the pre-opera dining."

  • "The restaurant is located within the Metropolitan Opera House and if you want to accompany the ambiance of the Met with great food and service this is the place."

  • "We knew tat the ambience would be deligtful but were pleasantly suprised by the quality of the food-delicious-unique taste and courteouly served."

  • "This time the restaurant was better in all respects. A table for 2 separated from other diners, very good service and good food too. This is an expensive place, but a great place for lunch before a matinee, since you KNOW you will not be late for the performance."

  • "Very special ambience, good food, great view of the complex. Very expensive however, and best for special occasions or expense-account dining."

  • "I was surprised and disappointed that on a Friday night with a premiere there was no vegetarian entree. I had to cobble a meal from sides: mushrooms, mashed potatoes, broccoli, spinach, and soup. It all tasted fine but I would have much preferred a full and balanced meal."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Everything great, including the option to return to your table for coffee and dessert at the first intermission for an elegant, stressless evening. Don't miss this."

  • "We were celebrating my wife's birthday, which I mentioned to the server. (Sorry I forgot her name, but if you can find it on your records, please pass on our thanks to her.) As a result, she took us under-wing, discussing the food choices and several times coming to see how everything was and asking what else she could do. It turned out to be a memorable meal for the food, the ambience, and, most especially, for the service."

  • "Perfect place to dine before the opera. Dining there makes the evening an entire experience. The Intermission is a good time for something sweet with coffee or cognac which can be ordered earlier and is waiting for you. The food is excellent and portions are just right, not too large, to spend the subsequent several hours sitting at the performance comfortably. And you're right there when its time to be seated."
    Dined on 4/3/2014
  • "It is a treat to have your dinner spread out between intermissions at the opera and at the Grand Tier Restaurant at the MET you can do just that. If the performance has two intermissions you can have your appetizers before, your main dish waiting for you at the first intermission and the dessert at the second, or any other combination. The food is very good but what is really impressive is the service: cordial, personal and efficient . Mind you this all comes at a price but going to the opera has never been a cheap date."

  • "Dining at the Grand Tier absolutely gave an evening at the Opera that extra special touch. Most notably having your dessert and coffee waiting for you at the end of Act 1 & 2 (intermission). Our waiter was knowledgable, attentive but not warm and friendly. Although the menu is a small selection of seasonal dishes, they are prepared exceptionally well. Our party of three was not disappointed."

  • "on balance the best meal out in past few years...followed by perfect La Boheme performance"
    Dined on 4/2/2014
  • "This was the second visit for my friend and I. Last occasion was lunch before the ballet and last Saturday we had dinner before La Boheme. Our meal was excellent and the service second to none. We travelled a very long way but well worth it! If attending a performance at the Met then I would say a visit to The Grand Tier is a must."

  • "Dinner at the Grand Tier makes every performance at the Met that much more memorable. Service is perfect, and food and atmosphere is consistently outstanding."

  • "Something fun to do for the experience, but the food is expensive and adequate rather than good."

  • "Dinner at the Grand Tier before the opera is a sublime combination!"

  • "Great addition to a wonderful experience at the Met. Convenience and ambiance. Nice touch to return to your table (where you have stored your coat for convenience) to have your dessert waiting at your table during intermission. Food is good. Of course it is pricey."

  • "The fresh halibut with basmati rice was outstanding - a wonderful sauce."

  • "We have dined here a number of times and this is the first time we were disappointed. The staff was definitely overworked - we barely saw our server. The food was delicious, but served cold (we chose not to send it back) - our side order was forgotten and even though we mentioned it, it was not served until after we had finished our entree, so we declined it. Desert was very good, but the cookie plate is ridiculously overpriced and definitely not worth having. We will dine here again, because it is usually wonderful!"

  • "The brunch/lunch we went to is only available to ticket holders of the opera to follow. It was recommended by a friend as part of the opera experience, and it was a lovely addition. It is expensive, so you might want to check prices to be sure you're up for it. The food was delicious, great service, and it's very nice to sit on the mezzanine of the theater. We were by a window looking out on the park below. It was a great way to enjoy the day and the opera."

  • "Nice, elegant experience. Our waiter was amazing. Efficient yet accommodating. Wonderful personality put us at ease and helped make the experience a special one. Food was good, portions small, prices high. But still, would recommend this pre-performance experience."

  • "Excellent food and service and so very convenient for those attending the opera."

  • "Superb food and fast, curtious and friendly service. Makes dinner a pleasure, with NO hassels before the Opera. Great food and they will hold your dessert and bill until intermission and allow you to return...class act!"

  • "The lovely dining room shares a sense of beauty and calm.. The service was commendable and good humored The best description is Elegant."

  • "We dined here because we had tickets for the opera and wish to complete the evening. The Grand Tier Restaurant is similar to other opera house restaurants although we felt that it had the edge when it came to service, which was impeccable throughout. Juhlie, our table host, did everything she could to make the evening special and she succeeded. Food was standard opera house but well presented, hot and tasty. For what it was, it was pricey, but then nothing at an opera house is cheap! The crunch question is, would we go again? The answer to that is - most certainly."

  • "Food here is always consistent. Service is excellent and the setting is great, especially near sun down. If you are going to the opera this is a solid option to have a relaxing meal without rushing."

  • "the food was delicious. Perhaps the most notable comment I can make is that the service was incredible, especially given the hectic pace of guests arriving and all needing to leave in time for the opera. The outstanding spirit and skill of our server, Juhli, was the most unforgettable part of the dinner. I may not have spelled her name correctly, but it's close, I think. She deserves the highest kudos!!"
