The Grand Tier Restaurant at The Metropolitan OperaService - outstanding, quick,Service - outstanding, quick, polite, satisfying your requests. Tables - beautiful, roses - outstanding. Dinner menu - interesting, but side portions are inadequately small, Just one spoon of mashed potatoes is definitely not enough. Dessert menu - NOT IMPRESSIVE, too simple cakes, too small sizes, highly overpriced, not suitable for a special occasion.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant. The food and service are superb. Dining at the Grand Tier before going to the ballet makes for a truly elegant evening.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMELEGANT DININGI had taken my significant other to the ballet and dinner; It was her first time at Lincoln Center. We got great seats for dinner and the food was perfect. I felt a great honor to reveal this great NYC gem to my Sweetheart.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were attending the BalletWe were attending the Ballet on a rainy night and the Grand Tier was a great choice for staying dry and having a lovely dining experience6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGoing to the Met?Dinner at the Grand Tier is always a treat and so convenient when you have tickets to any event at The Met. The food is always good and the service done well as you are assured of a good meal and getting to the performance on time. Their crab cakes entree is particulary good.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding service and, ifOutstanding service and, if you are attending a performance at the Met, it sure is convenient.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCome there - but not for foodFood is really mediocre but the place and the view is outstanding6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique dining experienceSince you need a ticket to a performance to dine here it
gives it an air of exclusivity. I had a very nice lunch of gazpacho, seared salmon
then Creme brûlée all of which were excellent. This is not a cheap
place and at $100 with the tip for one person it's not
somewhere to visit too often. But beautiful setting, good service, and
very good food.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect pre-performance diningReserve in advance to get a table at the front of the dining room, or w a fountain view. Our server tried too hard to be his idea of formal, and was too cold and impersonal for my taste. Regardless, I will return. Quality, preparation, selection, and portion size was perfect for pre-performance dining. Location can not be beat.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was unusually good. The food was unusually good. We eat here often before the opera and ballet, and usually find the food adequate. Monday night's meal was really excellent.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMbeen here many times and willbeen here many times and will continue to dine at the Grand tier!!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasureI love bringing my friend to the ballet, at the Met, and especially the Grand Tier! She always says "Now I feel civilized!" How true! Thank you so much for this unique opportunity in the heart of the best city in the world!!!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI missed the Prix FixeMy dinner was fine, but I missed the excellent value of the prix fixe menu. Too bad it's gone.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant, Convenient DiningIt is a pleasure to dine here before a performance: the service is attentive and welcoming from the minute of arrival, the food was delicious (exceptional soft shell crabs) and deserts were expedited so we could make the curtain. With only 20 minutes left before the ballet, we followed our server's recommendation to fit in desert since the intermission was even shorter than that time frame. The space is just beautiful, under the Chagall painting overlooking the fountain on the plaza. It is an expensive meal, but convenient especially on a rainy evening. The round banquettes are comfortable for a group of 6 and conducive to conversation.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMDivine DecadenceA delicious meal in a beautiful setting, you can actually speak to your dinner companion(s) and not have to compete with music or loud patrons. Yes, it can be had at the Grand Tier Restaurant at Lincoln Center. We had a wonderful server. I spilled part of my cocktail in the bread basket, and he immediately got us more bread. He was congenial and very attentive. It was one of the nicest dinners I've had in Manhattan in years.
A Cosmopolitan, chilled and delicious. The food was perfect - a salad of arugula, endive, feta, & grape tomatoes - cod that was sublime -the flavors bursting in my mouth.
A decadent piece of Devil's Food Cake to celebrate my entry into senior citizenship and espresso. What else is there?5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyableWonderful place for pre-matinee lunch - excellent, unhurried service, nice selection of wines, very good food - cold asparagus salad and hangar steak were excellent, ricotta ravioli not so much. Get one dessert and split.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMmenu needs to change frequentlyfor those who have subscriptions(oper/ballet) ,there needs to be more variey and frequent changes in the menu5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a perfect pre-performanceThis is a perfect pre-performance place to eat. Portions are just right. Not too big or too small. And the food is delicious. It is a lovely spot which overlooks Lincoln Center Plaza. I highly recommend it!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe place to dine when attendingThe place to dine when attending performances at the Met opera house. And you can have desert at intermission, but ask how long the intermission is before deciding.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMDining at the Grand TierYou can only dine at the Grand Tier if you have tickets for one of the venues at Lincoln Center so some of the selections in section 2 of this survey do not apply. But if you are going to the Opera or the Ballet at the Met you can't do better than the Grand Tier.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMToo badCondescending servce was not enjoyable. Regret change in policy not allowing us to return to the restaurant for coffee in the intermission, but only if we ordered dessert as well. Not told about this in time to put off having dessert before the performance.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMTHEY DON'T HAVE THE PRIX FIXETHEY DON'T HAVE THE PRIX FIXE MENU THIS YEAR----A SUBTILE WY OF RAISING THIER PRICES.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA pleasure, as alwaysWe so love the civility of dining at the Grand Tier prior to the ballet! It is such a relaxing time, in a beautiful setting, excellent service and incredible food! We were thrilled to meet the new Director, Christopher Russell, who spent quality time talking with us, and getting to know us. Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy such a unique service!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMCONVENIENT FOR OPERA-GOERSIT IS JUST A STONE'S THROW FROM YOUR SEAT.
A LA CARTE.
VARIABLE PRICED MENU MAKES IT AFFORDABLE.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMakes for a Memorable EveningThe Grand Tier is one of those "New York" restaurants that confirm how right it is to be a New Yorker. Dine here when you go to the opera or ballet. It will turn a beautiful evening into an incredible memory. Be sure to have dessert at intermission.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGala Evening at the MetAs always, my daughter and I attend the ABT Gala at the Met as part of our Mother's Day celebration together. This year, half of the Grand Tier was closed off for a Private Reception - sadly, the best part - however, having said that we still had a window table which I had requested. The screens that provided a privacy barrier for the reception were very unattractive to have to look at for the entire meal - just plain untreated wood! We're a little disappointed that there will not be a Prix Fixe this year on the menu, but that will not stop us from enjoying the delicious offerings. The Sommelier was particularly friendly and helpful, staying focused on all guests.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGrand TierNo better place to have dinner before the opera. Civilized atmosphere, good food, and what could be more convenient.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMMy favorite pre opera diningGreat waiters, lovely setting. A lovely way to start your evening at the Met.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMTHE PERFECT COMPLEMENTThe Grand Tier is the perfect complement to a great night at the Met. The food is a solid B+ with an easy to order from menu that covers the basics of fish and fowl ( with a filet as well ) but the luxury of dining a three minute walk from your opera seats and enjoying dessert at intermission is A+. I plan to make this at least an annual event to either kick off or end my opera season !5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMPrior to Opera performanceWe arrived 1.5 hours prior to the performance having made reservations via the web earlier in the day. We were seated immediately in a secluded part of the very-large seating area. The waiter was excellent and our food arrived promply. We ordered desert to be served at intermissiong and our table was waiting for us.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBefore the OperaIn a word, Fabulous.
The food, service and timing was simply amazing. Patrick, our server, was terrific, recommending courses and making our dinner great fun. The food and presentation was excellent. And, as promised, they had our dessert and coffee ready for us to walk in and enjoy for the second intermission of the opera.
The Grand Tier Restaurant makes the Met experience complete!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPre-opera dinnerThe vibe about the upcoming opera gave the venue an air of excitement. The food was good but not great--quite expensive. The service was very accommodating--we were able to return to the same table for dessert during intermission.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOperatic DiningThe Grand Tier is just that--grand. Service is excellent. The menu is varied and good. Appetizers are particularly fine. And you can dine well while still getting to your seats on time.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect way to enjoy The Met!When you attend The Metropolitan Opera and want to make it an even more special evening, dining at The Grand Tier completes the experience.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMPricey but food quality, ambience,Pricey but food quality, ambience, and service make this worth the visit. Good values can be found with quality lower-priced bottles of wine. Having a relaxing dinner under an enormous, colorful, original Chagall paiinting, with the vibe of Lincoln Center under your window makes this a special experience. Food choices were limited and expensive, but a six thirty reservation for an eight thirty opera gives you ample time to relax, share a bottle of good wine and enjoy the scene.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's special and fun to beIt's special and fun to be able to dine and then waltz right into the opera. The best treat is Pre-ordering dessert and finding it waiting at your table during intermission. Makes you feel like royalty!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat makes this restaurantWhat makes this restaurant unique (and can be infered from my ratings) is remarkable combination of elegance, sofistication and a special simplicity. One feels pleased ans relaxed.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful especially with a WagnerThe menu, service and ambiance were great. We appreciated the waiter holding our wine until intermission and returning us to the same table.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect dinning spot whenPerfect dinning spot when combined with a night at the Opera.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMIn loveThe perfect way to compliment a trip to the opera! While the price is high for the quality and originality of the food, the location makes it worth it. The service is outstanding and the entire staff is very accomodating, especially when coming back for dessert at intermission.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat option for dinner beforeGreat option for dinner before a Met opera, especially if it's your first time there (like it was for me). Food was great, wine was good, and a great view of the Lincoln plaza if you're seated in the front part of the building. Be ready to put up a bit of money for this dinner, but treat it as a part of a special night. One tip that's a great idea: Before closing your tab, you can order dessert for consumption at intermission. Only open before Met productions, entry is at the main ticket-taking location in the main lobby. While waiting, browse through their extensive gift shop on the plaza level. Overall, great dinner!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMConvenient and relaxedThe Grand Tier does what it is there to do very smoothly and pleasantly ie get you fed and out the door in time for the opera. We enjoyed our meal especially because we did not have to worry about getting to Lincoln Centre. Also enjoyed the convenience of having a light meal during long Wagner opera.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEnhanaced experienceWhat i delightful experience to have when attending the opera. It added to our experience and we'll do it again.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOpen, light, nice view outOpen, light, nice view out the many windows. Outstanding food, impeccable service.
