A word from The Grand Oak Steakhouse and Bar
Located in historic Cherry Valley, The Grand Oak Steakhouse & Bar has been a Southern California destination for over a hundred years. The Grand Oak sits on 900 scenic acres at Highland Springs Resort, Riverside County’s first historical landmark. Surrounded by 20 acres of organic farmland, evenings in the summertime offer magnificent sunsets over fields of purple lavender.

The property was originally established in 1884, and had served for a time as a stage coach stop along the Bradshaw Trail. Through the 1930s and 1940s it was a popular vacation spot, particularly for Hollywood actors and actresses. The interior of the restaurant proudly emphasizes the heritage of the resort’s past, some of the antiques decorating the dining room have been present for close to a century.

Chef Stefan Weck has perfected his culinary craft in numerous Michelin-starred restaurants throughout Europe. Originally from Germany, Chef Stefan has developed a refreshingly unique menu.

Grand oak is a fantastic find in Cherry Valley. The food, service, price were all terrific. Location is away from the norm which makes it even better. I will be back soon for more great dining experiences.

This was our first visit and we absolutely loved it. The service was outstanding and the food was not only beautiful to look at but the flavors were delicious. We cant wait to come back and try some other items on the list. The only negative we have is the lighting is so bright. Dimmer lighting would have definitely created a better atmosphere and I believe would have kept us there quite a bit longer ordering more tastings. Also, the seating could be cozier-more romantic. Overall, cant wait to tell our friends and come back.

I had goose bumps during our dinner because of the exquisite live music played during the dinner. Remember when a chilled fork was brought to you for your salad, fresh silverware was brought to you from a wooden silverware box by your waitress, a complimentary appetizer was brought to you from the chefs choice of the day? This is the place. Your waiter and their assistant for your table makes you feel special. I truly enjoy this place.

The service could be upgraded, I feel that they are hiring young people and not veteran servers worthy of this type of restaurant. The food was really good. They need a cocktail menu. We had a good time, although the acoustics aren't the best and we were seated next to a large noisy party.

Hard to find but a relatively great restaurant for this small town. We go fairly regularly because it's close, the food is certainly a cut above anything you'll find in this area (short of travelleing to Palm Springs, Redlands, etc.), and we get regular e-mail announcements from the Grand Oak about specials. This evening, we both had the hanger steak with local vegetables for $18--great deal considering the high quality of the food. The regular menu is not extensive but features a good selection of steaks and a number of intriguing entrees, all organic and local. The only cons: high ceilings in an old structure make the dining area very noisy and chairs are not comfortable (very low backs and broad but thin seat cushions).

We'll love he historic history of the area. But was a special occasion birthday and was way too loud in main dining .. Asked to move out side deck dinning was moved to out side bar area ... Nice view and cool breez was nice but forgotten out where we where .. Waited 45 mins and had to go find someone to ask for our bill. Food was cold when it arrived at our table, drink refills well had to ask two different people. I understand you had a wedding and reunion but seems your service and quality of food suffered at my expense. Needles to say it flattened the special occasion mood, and had to get desert somewhere else. Disappointed frustrated with the out come of my expesperiance.

i reserved way in advance for my dads bday. When they sat us at a poor table they apologized because they had big groups? the food was great, the place is beautiful. the service was horrible. put new drinks on table and did remove old glasses, or plates. gave us a free desert but waitress just threw it on the table did not say a work and walked away? it was really bizarre? when you pay hundreds of dollars for a nice meal, you expect good food and good service? when you make a reservation for a special occasion months in advance you expect a decent table for it.

Because we made the reservation online they were unable to accommodate us without a 30 minute wait. We didn't want to wait so they offered to sit us in the bar, which is an entirely different experience. We have eaten there several times reserving the same way each time. Now it's a problem.

This has been one of my husband and I's favorite dinner spots. Between the phenomenal food, the steak is the best we have had anywhere, the great classic atmosphere and the friendly staff, you cant go wrong. We like to walk around the grounds before we get dinner, since it is located on a lavendar farm there are beautiful views of the mountains, lots of flowers and both wild animals and farm animals to see. Make sure to see the gift shop located right outside the restaurant, they have lavendar production from lotions to sodas and knitted items, all hand made amd home made.

We have been there before and really enjoyed it. Steak is wonderful. Fruit and nut salad needs a better dressing. Rolls usually really good but were hard this time. The herb butter is really good though. Hamburger, husband said nothing noteworthy and he thought there was too much rosemary on the french fries. I had dorade (fish), pretty good. Water there is horrible so get a bottle of water, Saratooga Springs bottled water is very good, large bottle for $5. Beer prices reasonable. All in all, was okay, but it will be a while before we go back. Pretty pricey.

We went there for a Birthday dinner, and we ordered steaks, one ribeye, and one filet. The filet was ordered med rare, and was over cooked! From past experiences dining at other fine steakhouses, it was Not prime meat. The ribeye claimed to be prime, but my roommate did not think it was prime, nor worth the $37 she paid! We will drive into Palm Springs when we want a great steak from now on. Might try lunch in the bistro, but never dinner again. It is unfortunate, since there are not a lot of fine dining restaurants in the area!

We arrived early to take advantage of their happy hour specials and sat in the bar. My boyfriend, whose birthday we were celebrating that evening, ordered a trio of beer samplers and I ordered the Berry Sensation, I believe it was called. I LOVED my drink! In the bar, they had live music and a very busy bartender. When we were seated in the main dining room, we noticed a different vibe immediately. A little on the stuffy side (including some uncomfortable chairs), but the service was very quick and attentive. The food was spectacular! I recommend the roasted peach salad with arugula, the dorade, and for dessert, you MUST get the dessert tapas! It was an assortment of mini desserts that ended the evening on the perfect note. We'll be back!

Lots of servers running around, only two tables seated in the huge but rather sparsely decorated dining room. Cocktails & wines came slowly (server had to be reminded); all dishes came out at an uncomfortably erratic pace, from starters to salads to entrees, and finally sides arrived in the middle of our dining on the main courses. Some sides incorrect, some forgotten. Our complaints resulted in the server's flip comment: "It's ok, they're coming. I accidentally pushed the wrong buttons!" Sorry, Chef, we won't be coming back....too bad, so sad....you are an excellent Chef! Not even a comp drink or dessert was offered due to all the mistakes. Embarrassing to us as hosts.

You just can't beat The Grand Oak Steakhouse for delicious food, and delightful service. My husband had the Salmon Creek Pork Chop, (this dish, or the Cote De Boeuf, take extra time to cook, approx. 45 min.!), it was so worth the wait! He generously let me have a taste, Wow! Tender and flavorful, the best pork chop I've tasted in a restaurant in years! I had the Farm Shepherd Pie, not your usual at all, more like a lamb stew in form, with the finger potatoes in the stew, instead of mashed and cooked on top. Our friends had the Ribeye, and like the pork chop, it was cooked to perfection! The Black Tiger Shrimp & Blue Lump Crab Cakes, Vichyssoise soup, and Berry Shortcake were to die for! Like I said, you just can't go wrong at the Grand Oak!

Me and my friends decided to go to The Highland Springs Resort restaurant on their German night. Eager to try something new and different, we all gave it shot. Upon arriving the atmosphere was full of energy and guests there seemed to be having a great time, although if you're looking for a quieter setting this probably would not be a good place. The food was wonderful, and was pleased since it was the first time I had tried German cuisine. Not only was the food great, the portions we large. Highly recommend.

Given the pristine location, the historical building and the reputation of the Highland Springs resort; the birthday lunch for my Mother was rather disappointing. With a restaurant by the name "Grand"; one would expect better. A very limited menu, not a very large portion, waitresses very harried and rushed, soiled/stained upholstery, and watered down cocktails. Open Table asked if this was a special occasion and I did denote the lunch was for a birthday; there was no acknowledgement by the restaurant even after I asked. None of our order was worth writing about. As I was standing in front of the hostess and advised her of my arrival and reservation; she blankly stared at me and said " today?".

There were at least 4-5 servers and only my table of 3 and another table of about 5 or 6. It took at least 20 minutes to get our drinks, which should be out a lot faster than that. When I asked our waitress if I could have a blended margarita, she said she's not sure if the restaurant had a blender and she would have to check so I just switched my drink. I was preferring a flavored margarita and regular was the only option which I found bizarre with a full bar. She forgot our bread several times & the staff is not very knowledgeable about what the restaurant has to offer. Every question was followed with "not sure." Overall good food poor SLOW service. Probably would not return due to the service.

We went for Inland Empire Restaurant Week and the prix fixe menu was very inviting. There was a harpist playing which made for a lovely ambiance. Food and service was good and overall it was an enjoyable night out. One small complaint - I played telephone tag with the restaurant several times the day of the reservation when they were calling to inquire if we were celebrating a special occasion. When I finally reached someone I told them it was a birthday and they said they would help us celebrate. I wasn't expecting some great big fuss but there was no mention of a birthday throughout our meal and dessert. I know they do celebrate because the table next to us got a dessert with a candle. Oh well...

My Mom and I were in town from Texas and this restaurant was close by our hotel. Since we were unfamiliar with the area we gave it a shot. We loved it! I rarely write a review but felt compelled since we were so pleased with the experience. The food was terrific and our waitress was great. All of the waitstaff very attentive and friendly. We were so glad we got the strawberry shortcake for dessert - it was absolutely wonderful and a perfect ending to our meal. The dining room was bright and open. It was pretty new I think but had a retro feel. We had a great table, lots of room around us without that "stuffed in" feel - and my seat looked out onto the lavender fields - perfect! Nice wine list too

The Grand Oak is in a beautiful setting. This is the first time for brunch. We were surprised to find the choices for brunch so limited. We expected a more varied menu. The lack of variety on items was a bit disappointing. They do not have Bleu Cheese dressing. We realize the restaurant makes their own house dressings, but Bleu Cheese is a standard and they could also make their own version which I imagine would be wonderful. The servers also seemed to be somewhat confused. We inquired about three different items/issues, however they didn't know the answer and had to "go and find out". Overall, the food was and always has been good. It is nice to have a quality restaurant in our area.
