A word from The Grand Oak Steakhouse and Bar
Located in historic Cherry Valley, The Grand Oak Steakhouse & Bar has been a Southern California destination for over a hundred years. The Grand Oak sits on 900 scenic acres at Highland Springs Resort, Riverside County’s first historical landmark. Surrounded by 20 acres of organic farmland, evenings in the summertime offer magnificent sunsets over fields of purple lavender.

The property was originally established in 1884, and had served for a time as a stage coach stop along the Bradshaw Trail. Through the 1930s and 1940s it was a popular vacation spot, particularly for Hollywood actors and actresses. The interior of the restaurant proudly emphasizes the heritage of the resort’s past, some of the antiques decorating the dining room have been present for close to a century.

Chef Stefan Weck has perfected his culinary craft in numerous Michelin-starred restaurants throughout Europe. Originally from Germany, Chef Stefan has developed a refreshingly unique menu.

  • "We arrived early to take advantage of their happy hour specials and sat in the bar. My boyfriend, whose birthday we were celebrating that evening, ordered a trio of beer samplers and I ordered the Berry Sensation, I believe it was called. I LOVED my drink! In the bar, they had live music and a very busy bartender. When we were seated in the main dining room, we noticed a different vibe immediately. A little on the stuffy side (including some uncomfortable chairs), but the service was very quick and attentive. The food was spectacular! I recommend the roasted peach salad with arugula, the dorade, and for dessert, you MUST get the dessert tapas! It was an assortment of mini desserts that ended the evening on the perfect note. We'll be back!"

  • " Lots of servers running around, only two tables seated in the huge but rather sparsely decorated dining room. Cocktails & wines came slowly (server had to be reminded); all dishes came out at an uncomfortably erratic pace, from starters to salads to entrees, and finally sides arrived in the middle of our dining on the main courses. Some sides incorrect, some forgotten. Our complaints resulted in the server's flip comment: "It's ok, they're coming. I accidentally pushed the wrong buttons!" Sorry, Chef, we won't be coming back....too bad, so sad....you are an excellent Chef! Not even a comp drink or dessert was offered due to all the mistakes. Embarrassing to us as hosts."

  • "You just can't beat The Grand Oak Steakhouse for delicious food, and delightful service. My husband had the Salmon Creek Pork Chop, (this dish, or the Cote De Boeuf, take extra time to cook, approx. 45 min.!), it was so worth the wait! He generously let me have a taste, Wow! Tender and flavorful, the best pork chop I've tasted in a restaurant in years! I had the Farm Shepherd Pie, not your usual at all, more like a lamb stew in form, with the finger potatoes in the stew, instead of mashed and cooked on top. Our friends had the Ribeye, and like the pork chop, it was cooked to perfection! The Black Tiger Shrimp & Blue Lump Crab Cakes, Vichyssoise soup, and Berry Shortcake were to die for! Like I said, you just can't go wrong at the Grand Oak!"

  • "Me and my friends decided to go to The Highland Springs Resort restaurant on their German night. Eager to try something new and different, we all gave it shot. Upon arriving the atmosphere was full of energy and guests there seemed to be having a great time, although if you're looking for a quieter setting this probably would not be a good place. The food was wonderful, and was pleased since it was the first time I had tried German cuisine. Not only was the food great, the portions we large. Highly recommend."

  • "Given the pristine location, the historical building and the reputation of the Highland Springs resort; the birthday lunch for my Mother was rather disappointing. With a restaurant by the name "Grand"; one would expect better. A very limited menu, not a very large portion, waitresses very harried and rushed, soiled/stained upholstery, and watered down cocktails. Open Table asked if this was a special occasion and I did denote the lunch was for a birthday; there was no acknowledgement by the restaurant even after I asked. None of our order was worth writing about. As I was standing in front of the hostess and advised her of my arrival and reservation; she blankly stared at me and said " today?". "

  • "We just discovered this gem of a place. First, we had excellent Martinis in the Bistro. The dinner in the main dining room was outstanding. The rib eye steak was perfectly cooked and the pork chop was the best we have ever tasted. The service was impeccable; not stuffy and very attentive. This is a great destination restaurant in beautiful surroundings. We will return soon."

  • "There were at least 4-5 servers and only my table of 3 and another table of about 5 or 6. It took at least 20 minutes to get our drinks, which should be out a lot faster than that. When I asked our waitress if I could have a blended margarita, she said she's not sure if the restaurant had a blender and she would have to check so I just switched my drink. I was preferring a flavored margarita and regular was the only option which I found bizarre with a full bar. She forgot our bread several times & the staff is not very knowledgeable about what the restaurant has to offer. Every question was followed with "not sure." Overall good food poor SLOW service. Probably would not return due to the service."

  • "My Mom and I were in town from Texas and this restaurant was close by our hotel. Since we were unfamiliar with the area we gave it a shot. We loved it! I rarely write a review but felt compelled since we were so pleased with the experience. The food was terrific and our waitress was great. All of the waitstaff very attentive and friendly. We were so glad we got the strawberry shortcake for dessert - it was absolutely wonderful and a perfect ending to our meal. The dining room was bright and open. It was pretty new I think but had a retro feel. We had a great table, lots of room around us without that "stuffed in" feel - and my seat looked out onto the lavender fields - perfect! Nice wine list too"

  • "We went for Inland Empire Restaurant Week and the prix fixe menu was very inviting. There was a harpist playing which made for a lovely ambiance. Food and service was good and overall it was an enjoyable night out. One small complaint - I played telephone tag with the restaurant several times the day of the reservation when they were calling to inquire if we were celebrating a special occasion. When I finally reached someone I told them it was a birthday and they said they would help us celebrate. I wasn't expecting some great big fuss but there was no mention of a birthday throughout our meal and dessert. I know they do celebrate because the table next to us got a dessert with a candle. Oh well..."

Lisa the manager attentive and makes sure you are happy with your choices. They do not rush you through your meal, so you can relax, converse and enjoy the whole experience of fine dining."

  • "The Grand Oak is in a beautiful setting. This is the first time for brunch. We were surprised to find the choices for brunch so limited. We expected a more varied menu. The lack of variety on items was a bit disappointing. They do not have Bleu Cheese dressing. We realize the restaurant makes their own house dressings, but Bleu Cheese is a standard and they could also make their own version which I imagine would be wonderful. The servers also seemed to be somewhat confused. We inquired about three different items/issues, however they didn't know the answer and had to "go and find out". Overall, the food was and always has been good. It is nice to have a quality restaurant in our area."

  • "I'm pretty sure this was my first real organic steak. At first I thought the price may be a tad high for the steak. But once I put the first bite in my mouth I forgot all about the price. It came with mixed vegetables and mashed potato's that were very good. Only complaint was the potato's were a little on the cold side."

  • "We hadn't been to the Highland Springs Resort in quite a while....but have heard good things about their "Thursday Nite Hamburger Night". We sat in the lounge and ordered the Lavender martini and enjoyed the entertainment, while gazing out at the Lavender farm. Our $10 burger came with garlic French fries and a beer! What a deal! Food was great, entertainment was great, staff was great! Yes, try Highland Springs again for their Thursday Night hamburger night!"

  • "Our first time at the Grand Oaks, 2 couples, 2 had steaks, 1 chicken and I had the Seafood entree. Delicious! We all enjoyed our meal and plan on returning. Our server, Lisa, was perfect. The wine was great, ambiance with the piano perfect. Service was timely without feeling rushed even though we were a latter reservation. My husband and I returned the next day for the Sunday Brunch. Again it was a very nice experience and the views of the gardens are so peaceful and inviting. We recommend the Grand Oaks and will be trying their Burger n Beer night in the Bistro. ."

  • "Wonderful, the food was all cooked to perfection with unexpected flavors in some of the dishes. Steak was amazing, juicy buttery meltin your mouth flavor! we tried a few differnt desserts plus the tapas. All were amazing, light and fresh, like lemon thyme sorbet. Service was attentive. My water glass was never less than half full the two hours we were there. Over all a wonderful experience, very happy we found this place! Will definitely be back! Also a note on the prices, i was amazed, we had two micro bew beers, two starters, two entrees, and three desserts and i think our bill was 118$ before tip. Super low! For a gormet meal and top notch service i woupd have paid twice that."

  • "went for valentines and was seated right away...ambiance was great.they had a harpist there and was very intimate...food was amazing and delicious. I was worried about ordering the steak as most places just cant cook a flavorful steak..but it came juicy and full of amazing flavor..the duck was out of this world and so was the risotto ( my boyfriend ordered that and i have to admit i prob ate most of it lol)..they gave us a complimentary Waldorf salad tasting and complimentary truffles when we left..I was a little disappointed with the dessert tasting I got but the raspberry sorbet was worth the others not being as great....couldn't of been happier..just wish i could have eaten more"

  • "My husband took me here for Valentine's Day and we simply loved it. The food was good (I got the filet) and the ambiance was delightful. What appealed to me the most is this is a local business, not a chain restaurant, who either grows their own food or buys from local, independent farms. It is very charming with a lot of character!   • "We chose a steak that was served alongside seasonal organic vegetables. The entire dinner was delicious. The service was timely and the staff was friendly. The restaurant is large room with hardwood floors and many windows overlooking the grounds, which many times of the year serve as a venue for festivals. The only down side to this dinner was the piano music. It was far too loud. It would have been better if they chose some softer sounding music so that diners could enjoy their conversations between each other."

  • "Four friends got together for midweek dinner and tried this restaurant. The pumpkin soup and assorted bruschetta were delicious. The burgers which they are known for were disappointing. My risotto with duck confit was flavorful and the duck was tender. Our small plates of BBQ ribs were huge and dry. The sauce on the ribs was mediocre. We will go back again and try the bar menu at the bar. The service was attentive without being intrusive."
