The menu at the Gorbals is inventive and unusual. Everything we had was good, although the grilled squid were too garlicy. We were pleasantly surprized when the bill arrived. To get to the restaurant you have to pass from the street through the atmospheric old lobby of an apartment building, which is both kind of fun and can make finding the restaurant from the street a bit challenging. The interior of the restaurant gets really loud when its crowded, so be forwarned.

The food was universally too salty. If it did have other flavors, they were impossible to taste because of the salt. The only bright spot in the evening was the sticky toffee pudding, but that was no better or worse than I've had other places.

It was date night, and the server was great. He read our table very well, and left us alone most of the night, but was right there when we needed him. The food is always amazing. The burger is a must, as well as the broccoli and the roasted carrot with avocado and lime was refreshing.

We had Grilled lettuce, Beet barley risotto, Grilled squid, Bacon wrapped matzoh balls, and Bánh mì poutine. Grilled lettuce and Bánh mì poutine were really great and tasty whereas the squid and matzoh balls were bit bland. The risotto was very salty and I didn't think it was unique. I also had "It’s Bourbon, Honey" but it was OK. I had other bourbon on the rocks, and they were definitely better. Overall the place is quite energetic and is a fit for foodies.

Quirky, fun, continually interesting place, a perfect place for dinner with friends, with a smart, engaging energy. The staff are cool but hospitable (as opposed to cool but condescending, which seems to be the case all too often at places like this). The food is esoteric but still accessible and satisfying. You might not want to eat here more than once in a while, but on those occasions you do, you really can't go wrong.

Innovative, surprising, deliciously creative 'small plates,' including the best broccoli I've ever taste (char-grilled and doused in a piquant soy-chile vinaigrette). Also devoured a divinely moist, crumbly, ridiciculously rich burger with 6 variations on onion toppings (from crispy fried onions to sweet onion marmalade and tart onion pickles! Everything we ordered vanished in minutes -- we would have happily eaten our way through the whole menu. Reclaimed-retro-chic decor, buzzy hip vibe, fun & dynamic staff...a winner all around!
