A word from The Goat's Beard
Welcome to The Goat's Beard! Manayunk's newest restaurant and bar.
For the past several months, I've been asking myself, in less than 5 words, "who are we?". I've come up with an an answer: comfortably bold, sustainable American smaller plates/domestic whiskey bar. Well maybe that's not exactly 5 words but at least you're starting to get a picture in your head.
Community is an integral part in everything we do and it's how we think. Local is the fabric of our concept. Sustainability is a very popular term in these times, but we feel it should remain relevant now and forever. With that thought process we chose a native plant to PA as our namesake.
Featuring an all-out extensive domestic whiskey/bourbon menu rivaling any in the state as well as offer a ton of craft beers that have a "within 50 mile" rule. Add that to Chef Daniel Connelly's menu and you'll see his awesomeness plated to your delight and a restaurant that not only does a lil' good, but does it very well

  • "I loved the atmosphere and the drinks. The service was excellent. My friend ordered the mussels and really enjoyed them. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and cheese fries. The burger itself was good but the sauce was strange and I didn't like the texture or the flavor of the bun. The cheese fries were really disappointing. The fries were ok but I didn't like the cheese they used and there were way too many scallions. Overall it wasn't bad and I would be willing to give it another try."

  • "We were thoroughly impressed with our first-time visit. The menu options were unique and fun. We had the appetizer sampler that was full of delicious options: Portobello mushroom marinated, cheese, asparagus, minced olives, hummus. We loved it all. We all had entrees that we thoroughly enjoyed and were very well plated. We love beers and the craft beer selection was great. Important to us were their gluten-free options and they were highlighted on their main menu. Our server was pleasant and right there just when we needed him. The prices were reasonable. We had a wonderful meal, topped off with a fried brownie dessert and a pound cake dish. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. We highly recommend this hidden gem in Manayunk."

  • "The Goat's Beard had a hopping bar scene when we arrived (7 pm on a Thursday), and we agreed to be seated upstairs where the noise level was much less and the focus was clearly on the food. Great small plates -- from a tasty mezze plate with hummus, tapenade, etc., to an extraordinary curry inspired cauliflower salad, to crispy delicious fluke tacos -- perfect for sharing. Drinks were only $5 (some special). We broke down and ordered a side of macaroni and cheese and were really glad we did -- made with gnocchi and asiago as well as parmesan and cheddar, all with a crunchy top of roasted panko crumbs. The waiter was perfectly solicitous without being overly intrusive. We'll definitely return. "

  • "We came in with friends to get the 3-course Yards beer pairing dinner. The food was great, much better than the quality I've had at other such dinners. I really enjoyed the convenience of having 3 nights to choose from, but missed having a brewery rep there to tell us about the pairing and beers. My boyfriend and I have been to the goat's beard for dinner before and were not disappointed. This was our friends first time to eat there and they were not disappointed."

  • "Upon arriving, I deeply enjoyed the atmosphere of this location. My dish surprised me with a perfect does, yet dry, poached egg. Something I had not expected and found it to be a well suited finish to the dish. The salmon itself was a great blend of a charred top with a moist inside, which is difficult in many circles, even as some seafood restaurants. As for the mac and cheese, which I had the good fortune of trying a bite, immediately I was delighted to find that it was gnocchi that was the base of the pasta. Not to mention that the thinly cut steak sitting on top was a great addition as opposed to the meat being mixed into the dish and becoming overcooked. Overall, the experience was a great one and I look forward to returning. "

  • "We went for restaurant week because we had seen the place and wanted to try it out! Overall the food was good and the drinks were great- I had a thyme infused sangria that was excellent. My only complaint was that we were seated next to a large group of extremely loud guests and because there was overhead music on they felt the need to be very loud. Also the service was very slow and things were forgotten a few times. They did have a guy singing with his guitar a little after we got there that was loud but he was so good and the songs he sang were so great that we didn't mind! I did the preset menu and was very happy- the desert was the best. My boyfriend ordered from the original menu and was pleased with his dishes as well. "

My companions loved their Old Bay fries and contentedly ate everything placed in front of them. This is a welcome addition to the Manayunk dining scene and I'll definitely be back. P.S.   • "This was my second time there, first time sitting for dinner. If you are at one of the mezzanine tables they are a little tight but hardly a deal breaker. The service was quality. Phil, if I remember correctly was friendly, attentive but not intrusive and knew his product which is essential for good service. We shared the mezzo plate; nice variety between grilled veg, spreads and warm pita. The rivithia was a little pasty, not quite as smooth and creamy as I'm used to but the tzatziki and tapenade were executes well. The roasted chicken over risotto was a nice dish; well seasoned and balanced flavors. I had the eggplant sandwich which was good but needed a tad more seasoning. Overall, I'll definitely be back. Nice spot and friendly staff."

  • "Wanted to try someplace new and was very impressed with this restaurant. My husband and I were seated in the bar while March Madness was on the TV. The bar was noisy and crowded but it did not interfere with our dining. The server was pleasant and knowledgeable. Everything we ordered was delicious! The chicken wings are a must if you go there so is the vegetable lasagna! Will definitely return."

  • "I very much enjoyed eating at the Goats Beard. The menu was short, which makes deciding on a dish much easier. All of the options sounded delicious and there was enough variety for everyone to be satisfied. All four of us got a different dish and all loved our choices. The drinks were also great with some great beer, wine and mixed drink choices. I had two different Goats Beard cocktails that were both phenomenal; the Goats Beard cocktail (like an old fashioned with mint and lemon instead of orange) and the Green cocktail (spicy with jalepeños in it). I will definitely be going back."

  • "We tried this place enticed by a $15 birthday gift card. There was a solo guitar player and a mostly empty restaurant on a Sunday evening around 6:30. I wanted to go upstairs but my wife said we should listen. Anyway, he turned out to be lots of fun. In addition, while not gourmet, the food was very good AND Sunday the wine is $20/bottle for white and $25 for red. We had a lovely Josh Pinot Noir, normally $41, and by bottle's end, we were singing right along! We plan to try it again."

  • "We enjoyed our meal and the waitstaff was lovely. Unfortunately, we had a very long wait for our food. The waiter felt bad and kept reassuring us the food was coming. We had eaten at GB before, so we know that this long of a wait is out of the ordinary. When the food came out it was delicious, but a 45 minute wait helped us work up even more of an appetite for it."

  • "They were very busy so things were a little bit slow! With that being said, the staff handled it very well. We had the opportunity to meet the owner (Sean) who is a great guy. We ordered a number of small plates (goat nuggets, chicken wings, mussels, chips and the beer/cheese soup) and thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. The mussels come on a bed of home made french fries which were awesome having absorbed the mussel broth. The wings are large and crispy, tossed in a sweeter sauce and topped with caramelized onions. When I return it will be difficult not to order all of the same things."

  • "Stopped into the Goat's Beard for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The decor is great and takes you back to an old rustic farm feel with a touch of warm lighting. The whiskey selection is huge! I ordered the mussels and was blown away by the taste of the sauce and pile of fries underneath to suck up all the juice goodness. My husband order the cheeseburger and said it was tasty. The fries are a definite must. We will be back!"

  • "This was out second time at the Goats beard. And even better that i remembered. The hostess was so welcoming. I was pleased to hear that they have their own lot with a $5 valet service. The whisky bible is extensive and the mixed cocktails hit the spot. Although the menu is not large we were able to enjoy deviled eggs with bacon and chives, mussels in an amazing tomato sauce on top of french fries, salmon, and tiki masala. All was delicious and served by a absolutely charming wait staff. Live music began at 9:30 which was also really great. Can not wait to go back. A true Gem!"

  • "I would only recommend this place to someone that likes trying new and different types of Bourbon and Whiskey. They have a vast array of choices but are a little pricey. They charge by the ounce. My bf and I had gone on a Wednesday night and they did have a special on one particular bourbon that he loved. Not certain if there are specials every night. The crowd there was a little too uptight and snooty for me. If you are one to sip on Johnny Walker Blue, you are not going to be chatting about your latest J Crew outfit."
